Rose was not sure what to say. She was about to reply when Aldor started crying, leaning forward to cry into her shoulder. She was- at first- surprised, for no other reason than she knew that Aldor usually wasn't much of a fan of physical touch. But then she relaxed, letting him hold her arm. She moved closer to him, putting her other hand on his back, she turned her head so that it was touching Aldor's. She was just holding him, gently rubbing his back.
Yeah, he knew. He knew that she wouldn't ever leave him- they were just that good of friends. He was like her little brother. And she was like his big sister. And if he didn't know, he knew now.
She let him cry on her shoulder- quite literally- and held him. She whispered, "It's..." but she sobbed quietly. Dang it. If he was going to cry, then she was going to cry. She blinked the oncoming tears away, but then thought- why did she even care anyway? They were the best of friends. Aldor wouldn't judge her or anything. They were in the very back of the library and nobody would disturb them there. She doubted anybody even came back here, to be honest.
So why did she care?
Rose hated feeling vulnerable. In the past, she had trust issues with people that she knew could betray her. Leave her. Move on to some other person. Because, in her past, she had experienced several one-sided relationships where she realized she had just been a backup friend. She had watched her friends leave Hogwarts- and her- for other schools. Alina. Aurelia. They had left her, and neither of them had even told her goodbye. She had a hard time telling herself that that person had a reason to stick with her. Aldor sure had a pretty evident reason. She could trust him.
"It's gonna be okay," she whispered. Her voice had choked up before because there was never a promise that it was going to be okay. That Luke was a good person. That deep down, Aldor's parents loved him. That all their problems would one day be gone. There was no guarantee. But Rose did know that the problems- the doubts, the conflicts- that they were dealing with now would one day be a thing of the past. One day Rose would make up with her mother, and learn to love Luke as a stepfather. One day Aldor would have family that loved him. Their problems might never be solved, but she knew that someday they would be more bearable. They didn't know it in that moment, but everything... everything would be alright. It was going to be okay.

Aldor took a while to regain his composture, after all, he had just released all the tears he had kept along this years. But somehow, he felt a little lighter, all the shame and pain he had kept simply faded away. He didn't want Rose to handle every single one of his problems, ''friends aren't tools, there needs to be a balance in friendships, a way to help each other and show your love and appreciation'', that was something his aunt always said.
The boy did his best to stay quiet, thinking about the reason why he started crying in the first place, but now, he couldn't find a way to stop crying.
As he desperately searched for a way to make the tears stop coming out, until he felt Rose's hand on his back, as she told him that it was going to be ok, his eyes widened, and his worries melted away, he didn't feel the need to keep thinking about the pain that being lonely caused him, because he was not alone anymore, even if his aunt ever decided to go away, he knew Rose was going to be there, he only managed to whisper two words.
''Thank you-''
For once in a long time, he could be with someone without feeling panic or thinking about the many ways how the person holding him could betray him, instead of these feelings, he found something that he hasn't felt before. Holding onto his best friend made him feel safe, and so, the cold trapped within his bones was replaced by the warm feeling of security, because she was right.
Everything was going to be ok.

Aldor seemed to really have her words hit him, and he started crying a little heavier. She held onto him. She wasn't going to let go of him until he wanted her to. Rose wasn't ever going to leave him, ever going to betray him. And she knew the exact same would come from Aldor. And it felt so good to be with somebody and just trust them like this. Because Rose did trust Aldor. She trusted him with a lot more than she trusted most people.
Including her crying. Rose never cried. Well, not in front of anybody, anyway. She was used to being the shoulder people could lean on, but now? She was both. She was leaning on him and he was leaning on her, and they were keeping each other standing. They were keeping each other up, and they were keeping each other's heads above water. They would be okay, if only they stuck together. And Rose could do that. She could stick with Aldor forever.
He whispered a thank you, and Rose shook her head just the slightest bit. "No," she murmured. "Thank you, Aldor." Her voice cracked as she said it.
She wanted to explain to him that she was grateful for his loyalty. Thankful for his support. For his words, his encouragement, and his honesty. Where would she even be without him? Not somewhere very happy, that's for sure.

Aldor would finally calm down, slowly releasing Rose's arm, but he didn't move, he simply stayed on her shoulder quietly thinking about the safety he felt being held in someone's arms, he usually never felt like this, strangely, not even with his aunt, he loved her, more than his books, but somehow, the fear of losing her gave him a feeling of loneliness and dispair.
But it was different with Rose, he could feel it in the way she was holding him, it was honest, and gentle, at first, when Rose found him at the quidditch practice, he thought that she was trying to be friends with him because she felt pity for him, but now, he understands that in reality, they were both troubled people who had a hard time trying to express their feelings.
Soon they would both find the peace they were looking for along their life. That one thing that would finally guide them to a brighter future, he was sure about this, he was going to fight for it, he knew that in reality there wasn't much that he would protect with his life, but he knew that he would do anything, just to keep Rose safe, he would do anything to make sure that his best friend was happy.
He was sure, they could move on from those things that hurt them, not because any of them was better than the other, it was something much more powerful than that.
They had each other.

When Aldor let go of her arm fully, Rose would use that hand to wipe the wetness from her cheeks, and then to fully hold him with both arms around him and his head on her shoulder. It felt really good to be so close to him. It made her feel like she was worthy of his trust, especially because of his trust issues in the past. And vice versa, of course. She had trust issues, too, and it felt so good to be leaning on him as they she was just holding him.
So this is what it feels like to trust someone with your vulnerability.
Both of them calmed down, recovering from their initial grief at all the hardships of life. But Rose would stay in the same position unless Aldor moved, their breathing syncing unintentionally. That was something Rose always noticed. Whenever she was snuggled up against someone or laying next to someone, or holding them like this (all of which didn't happen often, and was usually her siblings), their breathing just fell into automatic synchronization as an instinct, and she always thought it was so beautiful that their bodies were just that close that they automatically did that.
Rose heard a group of girls near the entrance start talking and exclaiming about how they were going to be late for dinner, and then scramble out of the library. She murmured, "We should probably go down to dinner." And then she slowly came away from him, using one hand to brush his hair out of his eyes. Rose sniffed, and even though she did, she felt so much better than she had in so long. All credited to Aldor, she guessed. "Not that I really want to," she added honestly. No, she didn't really want to leave the library. And she especially wouldn't want to part with Aldor. Maybe they could grab dinner and find somewhere else in the castle to eat together. Her appetite had decreased after her fight with her mom. Some people were emotional eaters, but Rose was not one of those people. When she was emotional, she could barely eat if she tried and focused all her energy into it. She hadn't been starving herself- no, she was getting enough nutrition for her body. She was just not as hungry as she had used to be. Which didn't make sense, as she was fast approaching her birthday when she was going to be turning 13. Teenagers were famed for their hunger.
"Are you okay?" she asked, just making sure. She would wait for his full response and give a nod to him before standing up. "Come on," she murmured gently, and then they walked together to the Great Hall, talking on the way there. It felt good to talk to Aldor, always.

The boy would nod, as his friend mentioned that they should go and take dinner, his eyes widened a little as Rose brushed his hair away with her hand, somehow, being with her made him feel really special, he felt loved and he had the feeling that he wouldn't have to worry about anything else while she was there, Rose was his family now, and he was happy about that.
Even though he didn't really know how it felt to have an older sister who actually tried to take of him, he supposed that this was it, it wasn't about buying stuff, or saying 'I love you' a lot, it was just about understanding each other, being happy together, crying together, support each other, it wasn't that complicated. And even then, Aldor couldn't help but feel like this was the best thing that has happened to him in years.
Growing together and learning from each other, understanding that their bond goes beyond just being there, that not everything has to be words and in the end, actions, that is the true way to show appreciation. The Hufflepuff felt it in the way that Rose held him, it was honest and gentle. Soon, Rose asked if he was ok, to which he replied possitively.
''I am good, thanks, Rose.''
Aldor stayed closed to her, as they walked out of the library, he would gently hold onto her arm, just like he did in Halloween, but this time he wasn't hiding behind her, he was confident enough to walk by her, because he knew everything was going to be ok, as long as he didn't forget that, he knew that their bond wouldn't change, like sister and brother, being there for each other.
He was sure, everything will be ok, always.
