The penalty lap was not the worst thing ever. He'd expected a punishment a little more harsh than simply a few minutes' lap around the pitch for knocking someone off their broom. However, seeing his teammates fly around, and his attention still on the quaffle made it a tad bit challenging for him to finish the task at hand. Nevertheless, he completed the round around the pitch in a decently short period of time.

Quidditch is primarily a game involving the tossing of a red leather ball back and forth to outmaneuver the opposing team and lining up a shot through one of three hoops. At its baseline, these ten point goals are the primary manner by which to earn points. In fact, for the longest time, that's effectively all that Quidditch was. The rest of the aspects of the game—the bludgers, the beaters, the snitch, and the seekers...—came later, one by one. To this day, however, the heart of the game remained to be that red leather-bound quaffle. At least that's what was supposed to be at the game's center.
Evidently, Slytherin and Hufflepuff had said poppycock to that, however. As the game continued, the quaffle continued to receive no attention. There were no quaffle tosses. No chasers sought to squabble over the ball to race to the other side of the pitch. No keepers remained close to their hoops in the event that someone deviated from the chaos to actually start playing the game. Nope. Nothing. Nada. The poor referee was left to marvel at the spiraling game as it degraded into little more than a race for the snitch and desperate attempts by both teams to squash the other's seekers.
How many quaffle points could have been earned by now had even just one person taken advantage of the total distraction? Thirty? Sixty? Ninety? Could this have been a game where even the capture of a snitch couldn't have closed the gap to whomever held the lead? Perhaps. But none shall ever know. All that is known for a certainty is that the Hufflepuff chasers and keeper—Heinrich and Atlas fresh from their penalty laps coupling with Serena—seemed suddenly mightily interested in Nico; while Aaron took to dogging Ethen's heels. Elsewhere, Thora—likewise having just raced to complete her own (third) penalty lap—was similarly taking up the mantle as Dan and Tyranni's shadow, while Koko raced to complete the lap of the pitch with which she had been penalized and Nico held a fiery determination in her gaze.

If the audience thought that the plethora of penalties that had just been handed out was going to serve to deter further foulplay, they were grossly mistaken. Just as mistaken as Lindsey was in thinking she had dodged the bludger sent her—well, actually Ethen's—way by Percival. Sure, she had managed to escape its initial bite. Her skilful dodge saw the iron ball sail harmlessly past her. But the thing about bludgers was that they didn't quite follow the mortal laws of physics. Bewitched in such as way as to autonomously wreck havoc, they could modify the direction of their flight to target whatever was nearest to them. If there was nobody else to latch on to, well... the simple advice was to always assume that harm was only a broom's breadth away. And more accurately to the point, this moderator accidentally forgot to account for Percival's broom last round which augmented his innate abilities, turning what was reported as a miss, into a hit. As it was, the moment that the bludger had whistled past her, it sailed around in a wide arc, doubling back upon its trajectory towards the girl. The connection was hard and solid, blowing painfully into her from behind. She's surely have felt the winding effects of that.Perhaps it was this that had drawn Lindsey's attention away from her previous task of protecting Ethen. Or maybe it was simply the fact that he had spotted the snitch and taken after it at breakneck speed. Strategies were only as effective as those that could execute them, and all too often, the circumstances of the game would bore holes into carefully laid plans. Nico found one of those holes. Withdrawn from the heat of the battle and from the quaffle game in preference for watching out for her Captain, she was in prime position to spy such an opportunity and capitalize upon it. And O, how she did.Round Six Correction
Percival's bludger attack on Ethen (for which Lindsey was defending) had been defending had been resulted in a 12. Lindsey's evasion roll to dodge was 14. Due to Percival's Moontrimmer, +3 acc was missed. His new result is 15, indicating a successful hit on Lindsey. Damage: 8*75 = 600. HP: 700 - 600 = 100. Lindsey has 100 remaining health.
"Penalty lap to Nico Shymane for blatching!" shouted the referee, their tone growing increasingly irate with every subsequent foul.
Like a rocket, Nico had chased down the vulnerable Ethen. As lithe an individual as she was, at the speeds at which brooms reached, not a lot of weight was needed to apply force enough to knock someone askew. Ethen couldn't evade it. A dull thud might have been heard by those near to the collusion, but the streak of gold that fell through the air couldn't be missed. Fortunately for him, it wasn't the ground that would break his fall. Or perhaps that wasn't actually a blessing. The slowing charms to spare the eliminated the worst of a fall were often physically preferable to the jarring halt of a save. Rough or gently, however, Aaron would catch Ethen, allowing Hufflepuff to keep their seeker in the game.
As though to commemorate this bittersweet victory, a thunderous crack echoed over the pitch. Rivalling the doomsday projectiles that Quinn was so well known for, Ami had finally managed to get a grip over herself and sent a bludger rocketing towards Dan where he remained astride Tyranni's broom. A wicked shot, it trailed towards them, and by all appearances, it looked as though it would be impossible for them to dodge from its course. In fact, it may even have looked like they weren't aware of its impending approach. Until they were. By apparent fluke, Tyranni had directed their broom away in a spectacular dodge that allowed the bludger to go harmlessly past them. Perhaps there was something to be said for the strings of prayer she continued to utter in Tyr's name. The snippets of intuition flashing occasionally through the back of her mind could certainly be explained away by some to be divine in nature. How else could she have known?
The action didn't end there, however. Following up Nico's example, Percival seemed to believe that the weight of his body might provide better results than the crack of his bat. Or, more accurately, without a bludger in immediate reach, there were few other options if he wished to see that Huffleseeker fall now. A streak of green honed in on the now coupled pair of Aaron and Ethen. Even though his form whizzed past the pair by an embarrassingly (Nat 1) large margin, the intent had been pretty clear to all who spied it.
"Percival Rainwood! Penalty lap for attempting to blatch!" came the announcement, adding insult to injury. But that was the risk of blatching. High reward, but at high risk.
Elsewhere, Lindsey had recovered well from the bludger she'd taken. Where Ami had been outmanoeuvred by Tyranni's—frankly unbelievable—skill, an opening had emerged. Distracted not only by their pursuit of the snitch, but also having just narrowly avoided what had promised to be a devastating blow, the Slytherin captains were a tempting target indeed. Taking control of the very bludger that had just recently assaulted her, Lindsey wound up and struck the ball towards the diving pair. With a satisfying—or agonizing, depending on which team support was being given—thud, it struck home. Though not nearly enough to knock them from the air, there was no question about the mark it would leave. Still, if the badgers wanted to finish off those snakes, they would have to try harder.
Which is perhaps what the audience would see next. The Parkin's Pincer, a previously little used strategy, had already made its appearance several times over the course of the game. As Serena and Atlas closed in on Nico's flanks, it would do so again. Once again, Heinrich headed the charge. The pressure on either side by the two yellow clad players would leave Nico with little room to manoeuvre. With no real room to move and nowhere to go, even the most skilled flyers would have a hard time dodging what was about to happen. For a second time, the young first-year barrelled headlong into the dhampir, and once again demonstrated his deceptive strength by throwing her clear from her broom.
As green whipped and flapped in descending surrender, the referee would announce, yet again, "And another penalty lap for Heinrich Bezuidenhout!"
Nico's quidditch uniform would cease its wind-torn tangling moments later. Another player spared an early demise removal from the game, Thora would come streaking from the shadow of their seeker just in time to pull Nico to her broom. Single-handedly responsible for Quinn's removal, and gallant saviour of Nico...it was clear to all whose side she was on in that relationship. And down below, how would Alexx react? Until now, the former star chaser had been sitting impatiently upon the bench, gazing with intense annoyance scrutiny at her fellow players. Had she straightened momentarily? Had there been a pang of excitement in her belly at seeing Nico knocked from her broom? Surely she couldn't want her teammates to fall... but then again... if Nico had been out, she'd get to play... The curse of the benched.

The race was renewed. Somehow, against all odds, Ethen had managed to close the distance. Having been first to spot the snitch, Slytherin had taken hold of the initial advantage. One that had been unfortunately squandered away as nerves and unease had settled in and attempted manoeuvres had fallen through. Now, it was anyone's guess as to who would pull ahead. Almost in unison, Ethen and Dan—astride Tyranni's broom—dove. They spiralled and danced. The very air of the pitch was their stage; and the wind, their accompaniment. All eyes would be on them, breaths baited, waiting to find out what the outcome would be. In seconds, it could all be over. Blink, and the entire finale could be missed.
Neither would come out of it victorious, however. The inescapable risk that accompanied a spiral dive was in the momentum. Once initiated, it was difficult to break free. The whip of the wind left vision impaired, and the speed made manoeuvring in any direction other than forward quite precarious. Plus it was easy to spot. It left the diver vulnerable. Something that both teams had capitalized upon. Nico had gone after Ethen; while both Ami and Lindsey had targeted Dan. Neither seeker would emerge unscathed. Ethen had been knocked clear from his broom, and Tyranni had sustained a hard impact. For both, it was enough to temporarily foil their pursuits. Once again, the wily little snitch would fly free.
But the chase wasn't over.

game 2Ah, no. The bludger which Rainwood sent to her simply came back again. She didn’t evade it successfully like what she had thought - it was a close one, and it indicated a hit. And it hurt. Although clearly the boy was not as terrifying as Ryan or Quinn, as he was not strong enough to send her to the ground, but it still hurt. It was painful. She didn’t blame him, however, seeing that this was not foulplaying - he bludgered her, and she wasn’t nimble enough to evade, that’s all.
Gathering all her left sprit her bat went near an iron ball. Just one shot…just one. She didn’t know how long she could keep herself on the broom, and probably before she was out, she had to cause at least one more damage to those snakes. They had already lost Quinn, and couldn’t afford to lose a second beater. And it was there. The iron ball, flying directly towards Palmer and Whitethorn. Ami had tried to do the same thing as well, but the pair flew swiftly out of her ball’s way. Simply her co captain was not favored by luck today - Ami was almost as terrifying as Quinn, she had to admit. Nearer, nearer…and it hit. Maybe the pair just didn’t realize that she had sent a bludger towards them. How bad could it get? There was clearly something going on, as Dan and Tyranni were flying strangely. They ought to have caught the snitch by then, having survived attacks to try to throw them off, yet it alluded them. It wasn't as though he could underestimate the pressure of the situation, Hufflepuff was undefeated after all, and no attempts to stop their Seeker from also going after the snitch seemed to phase them. He thought he might develop an ulcer at this point.

Percival bit back a loud curse as he began his penalty lap. Annoyance lapped streaks of fire across his chest as he contained his emotions. Now wasn't the time to blow up. Despite the fact, that he thought the fact that blatching was still illegal quite a waste of potential. The air whizzed by him as he attempted to go as quickly as possible. All Howard could do was to continue to watch and pace. A gasp of anxiety would escape his lips as both Seekers performed spiral dives only to be followed by a groan as Ethen came away empty handed. At least Slytherin came away with the same results. The round wouldn’t be a complete loss as team Huffle performed yet another successful Parkin’s Pincer and one of the Bludgers found its target. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to knock them from the broom, but it was something nonetheless. Howard would force himself to stand still, eyes glued to the sky as he awaited the next round of action.

Once again it continued.
The two seekers both dove for the snitch but to Stanley's dismay they both had not been successful in catching the golden beauty. It was so hard to pull himself back from hopping onto his own broom and catching it himself. His, small, pride held him back while his eyes watered up slightly from the wind. A small intake of breath got caught in his breath as yet another player got hit by a bludger. Did it really hurt as much as people said it did? The boy gulped down the ball of air and shook his head, in denial of the pain a bludger could really cause, before trailing his eyes back to the pitch.

She was ready this time. She was ready to smack the bludger at a Slytherin, to shed some blood, to win this thing. And it really appeared as if she had finally shaken off the strange chill that had engulfed her when she had first flown out onto the pitch. She was laser-focused in. The only thing on her mind right was this race bludger.
But as she flew towards the bludger, backbeating it with as much force as she could muster towards the Slytherin seeker, the other Slytherin captain seemed to know that the bludger was coming straight for them. Her jaw hanging open in surprise, she watched as the two swerved their way out of the bludger's path with ease, carrying on with their pursuit of the snitch. "What kind of reverse aimbot baloney is this?!" Ami yelled, nearly throwing her bat at the pair of Slytherin captains in exasperation. Grumbling to herself with a petulant expression on her face, she glanced around at her teammates quickly, just to assess where everyone was.
Catching several of her teammates' gazes, she telepathically told them their next move using the sheer power of her brilliant mind. (She didn't.) Nodding in satisfaction when she saw that her teammates had gotten their (non-existent) orders, her grip on her bat would tighten, and she would charge through the air on her broom. This. Was probably the most infuriating thing Dan had ever done. And he had played through all of the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, AND Sekiro. He had little doubt that playing through Bloodborne with his feet would be less frustrating than this. He would make more progress with that too. And in a more timely manner.
Dan saw now that the one and only reason Hufflepuff was undefeated was because of cheap bullshit luck.
"Tyr, keep going. Keep me on the snitch's arse, and keep us from hits. Did great a minute ago."
