Defense Against the Dark Arts
OC: I wanted several days for the thread maker and the player that took over the teacher NPC to post because I try to respect post order but it appears that we have been forgotten or they are overwhelmed by the number of posts gathered so here goes...
IC:
"Unless you already have a partner I guess we'll be stuck together for now."
A stranger from Griffindor announced. She turned her head towards him and mentally appraised him. It was something she had always done, something she wondered but half=expected every Slytherin to do as well. "Seems so," she replied simply as she retrieved her wand and stood up. "Are you going to be capable of doing this?" It was a strange or cocky question depending on how you viewed it but Griffindors tended to be their most powerful during times of crisis in her experience. Then she shook her head, "Yes, of course... of course you will be more than capable." She concluded verbally, working it out in some way prior would be of no benefit to either of them.
"May I go first?"
She would back away from her desk and rotate her wand as demonstrated before calmly stating the power word "Expelliarmus." Nothing happened. She would look down at her wand and frown. She said the word, she replicated the movement. Out of the corner of her eye she would see the others, some successful and some not.
She lacked passion. And emotion was a part of the equation. It was part of what made dark magic evil and corrupted a good man's intent. That was obvious to her. She would wonder what one would have to feel and how deeply they would have to feel it to be effective. She would point her wand in Owen's direction. "You try," she would announce as she gripped the wand firmly between her fingers. A part of her wondered how rough the removal would be. If her grip would make any difference. "Don't be gentle."

Defense Against the Dark Arts
This was what James hated about being late... being completely clueless as to what he was supposed to be doing.
Not only had he come from a muggle life and had no experience with magic (unless you counted tricks on a stage), but he also had arrived late to class.
James couldn't help but think, Thanks, Mom and Dad.
James looked around at the others, seeing their attempts at casting spells.
"Expell... ee... armus?" he tried to sound out the incantation he was hearing everyone repeat.
He decided it would be safer for him to look around and figure out what everyone was attempting to do.
Then, James realized that all of them were paired up in partners.
Well now James knew where to start. It would be beneficial if he had someone else to work with, because chances were that unlike him, they knew what they were doing... and James felt those chances were pretty high.
James looked around for someone who seemed to not have a partner. Almost everyone there seemed to be partnered up with someone, and James was beginning to feel discouraged.
Then, James found someone else who was currently partner-less.
James approached them, taking a deep breath, hating himself internally.
He cleared his throat as he came up to them. "Excuse me, um... could you help me out? I mean, be my partner? Please?" he asked more than a little awkwardly.
"Sorry, I'm just not very used to all this stuff..." he explained.

Defense Against the Dark Arts
Owen took a deep breath as he looked over his new partner. Her next question, asking whether or not he would be able to do this hit him hard, and suddenly he fund himself doubting whether or not he would be able to do what was asked of him. her next statement unnerved him just as much, but he felt a sense of pride that someone he had basically never talked to seemed to believe that he could do something. Trying to remain calm, otherwise he doubted he would retain the ability to cast the spell he stepped forward, raised his wand and moved it as shown and shouted, 'Expelliarmus" perhaps just a bit louder than was strictly necessary. His wand sparked and smoked slightly and he felt a rush of satisfaction of getting anything out of it. He took a breath again, preparing to give it another shot and this time it worked slightly. Flicking his wand as shown he saw Erin's wand give a slight jump in the air and he couldn't help but break out in to a manic grin. Realizing that he should give her another turn, he stepped back and nodded to her, tightening his grip on the wand's handle in the scenario in which the spell worked.

Defense Against the Dark Arts
Victoria had her worst class Defense against the dark Arts. Sighing she opened the door seeing students using the disarming spell. Walking to an empty spot in the room she took out her wand and looking at the others seeing they was doing it well. She pointed her wand at the wall saying as some other students saying the spell. She took in a deep breath slowly exhaling out. She said, "Expelliarmus." Not saying it out loudly like the other kids, but she seen some light come from her wand but not enough for it to be a spell. Letting out a heavy sigh she kept on doing the spell.

Christy snuck through the door of the Defense Against the Dark Arts class, hoping no one would notice she was late to yet another one of her classes. Especially this one, she was never very interested in learning about Dark Arts, even defending against it. She was watching the other kids try the disarming spell, but it only made her more nervous about the class. She tried to just sit in the back of the class and watch everyone else practice.
Looking around the room she saw familiar faces - not that she ever actually introduced herself to anyone yet, but she has seen them around the castle a few times and at the sorting ceremony. There didn't seem to be anyone without a partner, anyway, so she wouldn't be able to join in on the spells anyway even if she wanted to. "I'm going to have to start making friends soon if I'm going to do well at all in any of my classes..." she thought to herself. She continued to glance around at everyone else, "They look like they're having so much fun..." She looked down at her lap and blushed from embarrassment for not having the courage to talk to anyone in order to learn in the class...

Defense Against the Dark Arts
OC: Guys, please make 200 words per post.
IC:
Owen took a seemingly confident step forward and triumphantly shouted "Expelliarmus!"
The wand did not move. It did not waver. The spell was ineffective however there was evidence of magic at work. A thread of smoke danced skyward and she caught the smell of burnt wood. Erin had a doubter's mind and because of this there was a small part of her that believed that she could not be so easily disarmed by some magic trick. This was her wand in her hand. He had no power over her.
"Again," she ordered. She had to know.
"Expelliarmus!"
Owen repeated with a flick of his wand. Her wand twitched, it had betrayed her. She would look at the wand, she did not move it. That much she was certain. She should have expected the movement but she was still surprised that the motion was so far out of her control. She was able to maintain her grip, it was not violently expelled from her hand but with practice that would be eventually possible and that worried her. Her fingers ached slightly. The wand was the conduit of a wizard's power, without a wand a wizard is defenseless. Her fingers tightened around the base of the wand as she improved her grip. "Harder," she demanded.
She raised her wand again and prepared for his magic. Her forearm tensed and she wondered if there was a way to fortify herself. If there was a way to steel herself.

Defense Against the Dark Arts
Owen face grew slightly concerned for a second, fearing he'd somehow angered her, but he quickly shook the notion off. Quickly he nodded his head, wanting to oblige he and glad that she was letting him get some much needed practice in. Taking a brief second o watch some of he more successful groups around him, he noted some of their particular wand movements and, squaring his should turned back towards Erin. He could do this, he just needed to concentrate on the task at hand. Mentally going through each step he would got through, he raised his wand and flicked it as he had seen the other students do it and shouted, "Expelliarmus!" This time a quick flash of light briefly flared at the tip of his wand but her wand only jumped about as much as the lat time, if not less. Again he breathed in a shouted the spell, and this time he saw Erin's wand give a stronger jerk than the time, and he felt his heart soar for a second when he saw the wand jump, hoping that the wand would fly out of her hand as it had with some of the other groups.

"I'm James by the way!" he told her, holding out his hand for her to shake it. James was more than glad that she had accepted being his partner. All James had been able to do so far was lift a feather. James was surprised that he was even able to do that! Being raised completely muggle, and not knowing anything about magic for his entire life didn't really help James at all! James was really hoping she was a little less lost than he was, so he decided to ask.
"Um, are you good at any of this stuff? Do you have any experience, or do you know anything more about it? Or, you know what? I don't even know what Defense Against the Dark Arts is! Do you?" James sounded very stupid, to say the least.
James glanced over his shoulder again to see if there was a board or something with instructions on it, or at least a slight hint as to what they were supposed to be doing.
