A sign laid on top of a long wooden table, stating the following;  Interested in making a flower crown in order to win prizes? This is the place for you! It wasn’t a very appealing sign, not as pretty, or sweet as some of the other signs adorning other stations, but the Professor in charge of the flower crown station didn’t really care about anything looking pretty. The edges of the tables were decorated in pink cherry blossoms, that lit up with some inner light, that blinked on and off every few seconds.  The table was empty, besides from the sign. Professor Sorrel Wright stood at the end of the wooden table, watching as students eagerly gathered on both sides of the table to prove their artistic skills with flowers.

The professor of Herbology waved to random students, “Hello Ravenclaw child, Hello Hufflepuff first year kid, go away anyone who’s not doing the event!” She batted away giggling group of first years, attempting to steal some flowers. They left on their own, disappointed in the lack of flowers. “Now that you’re all here.” Sorrel said, gathering the attention of all the children gathered by her table. With a wave of her wand and a nonverbal spell, a multitude of flowers, vines, and wires appeared on the table.

Alright, cut the wire into a shape that will fit your head using diffindo.” Sorrel started to say, then remembering that she had first years at her station, muttered accio under her breath. An abundance of scissors came floating through the air from god knows where, accompanied by the warning screams of people ducking out of the way of the flying scissor brigade. Praying nobody had gotten hurt by her flying army of scissors, Sorrel watched the scissors land on the table. “Cut the wire into a shape using the scissors if you can’t cast diffindo. First years don’t even try to use the spell.”  Sorrel had heard from her friend Matilda Barrows about what had happened the last time a first year had used Diffindo, and how many students had gotten hurt because of it. She wasn’t overly fond of the children at the school, but didn’t really want them dying on her watch. That would've been awkward to explain to the deputy Headmaster.

Once that wire is cut, you can tie vines and flowers to it and make it look pretty.” Sorrel grabbed a wire, some vines, and flowers for effect. In a couple of long minutes, while the students looked over at her, Sorrel had crafted a rudimentary flower crown. “Uh, make something like that. But nicer. Knock yourself out.” Sorrel looked about done for the day, but then remembering something let out a little gasp. “Oh yeah, you can win prizes for this if your flower crown is really nice. Chocolate frogs, flying cocktail things, plants if you want some, and uh…” Sorrel really had no idea what the prizes were, so she simply shrugged. “Stuff. Now get building small British children.”

Anna was the first person to grab the scissors. She grabbed some wire and some flowers as well, then ran off somewhere nearby where she couldn't be interrupted by the other competitors while making her masterpiece.

It seemed like an hour had passed for the hardworking Hufflepuff. She wiped her sweat and looked down at her creation.

The wire was completely hidden from anyone who viewed it, with flowers and grass inside and out the crown. There was one big pink flower in the middle and going around the crown, the flowers got smaller. Anna put blades of grass inside the crown to make it look like a field of flowers blossoming on your head. The grass also made the crown much more comfortable to wear. The roses were crooked but it didn't matter because the vibrant colors of the crown took the attention off of the mistakes.

It wasn't much of a “masterpiece”, it was just a sloppily made flower crown, she knew her art ability at 11 wouldn't be so magnificent. However, Anna was proud of her work and wore it on her head as a reward. Even if she doesn't win, she would still be happy knowing that something good came out of today. Anna skipped around the place in her crown feeling like a princess.

Rosie excitely rushed over and grabbed her materials. This seemed really fun, and Rosie wasn't about to sit back and watch! Were people probably better at it than her, sure! But what did that matter? Rosie happily put together flowers to make a rather vibrantly colored crown, grinning wide with a sweetheart look as she continued to make her creation.

When Rosie was done, she took a breath and looked at her creation. It was a mess. But it wasn't an ugly mess, at the very least! Rosie's flower crown was decorated with pale colors of all sizes to fill in the space of each vine. She turned it around and gazed at each vine wrapping around the flowers, and in turn the flowers that connected to the vine. It was as good as you would figure a child could make something so delicate, but Rosie didn't care about the result. It was fun! She was having fun. Rosie was surrounded by equally as excited 1st years making their own, unique, crowns. And in that regard, it made Rosie happy. The bright grin seemed to be permanent on the young child's face, and thankfully, this time her hair wasn't in her face for her to awkwardly blow out.

Alina skidded into the room just as her favorite professor revealed a table filled with flowers of every color, vines of every thickness and wire. She sneaked in, sliding in beside a Hufflepuff girl to look at the table. She listened intently to her professor's instructions, and dodging barely just in time to avoid a pair of scissors to the head. A small grin spread across her face.

She watched as Professor Wright constructed a quickly made crown, it dripped with beautiful colored flowers. Well, that looked better than anything Alina could hope to make. When she dismissed them, Alina waited before taking a spot next to the table and started picking out flowers of her favorite color: blue. Already she could see an image drift into her mind of how she wanted it to look. She started to pick up flowers of different types and gradients of the color blue. From the delicate Alice Blue, to oceanic Cerulean to the royal Prussian Blue. With a handful of assorted flowers, she skipped over to an empty spot on the ground and laid out her haul.

First the hard part was cutting the wire. With her luck, she would end up with less than half an pinkie. But, it went on without a hitch and it was measured perfectly around her blonde tresses. Taking some thin vine, she wrapped it around the wire to hide it, pulling it snug and tying it near the back. Now came the hard part, the flowering.

Alina looked around at the other students who were already making beautiful crowns, and Alina felt some pressure. Looking up to smile at Professor Wright, Alina started to thread in a large chrysanthemum first, and continued on with assorted wildflowers, daffodils and carnations. When the crown was filled, she slipped in a few sprigs of Baby's Breath and green leaves to frame the flowers.

She set it down, where her gradient blue crown glittered happily in the warm Spring sun. It turned out better than she hoped, and she slipped it onto her head. She winced as a few petals fell from the crown, probably due to rough handling. Oops! Hopefully it lasts the day.

Sally skipped across the grounds to where the event was taking place. She wasn't very artistic but she would participate with enthusiasm atleast.

Reaching the designated spot, she greeted the Professor and stood next to the table, listening carefully to the instructions.

Suddenly there were scissors flowing around accompanied by screams and surprised yelps. Sally jumped a little but thankfully she wasn't in the path of the scissors.

She took a piece of wire and wrapped it arpund her head for measuring and cut the appropriate length.

Then she looked around, confused for a moment as many students went about decorating their crowns. She had no idea how to approach this.

Then she scanned the array of flowers and vines in the center of the table and was delighted to see that she knew the names of many of them. Maybe her knowledge could cover up for her artistic handicap.

Leaning forward, she selected a collection of flowers and leaves. The heart shaped leaves of Mellisa would not only look beautiful, their lemony scent would be very soothing too. They would go well with a bunch of small pinkish Centaury flowers, a whole stem of Lady's mantle, yellow Tormentils, and along with these, she would include yellow roses and pink orchids to fill up her crown.

She got to work, slowly covering the wire. It took spoiling a whole bunch of flowers and pricking her finger on the wire countless times but finally the crown was ready.

Finished, it was a pretty little thing with a colour combination of yellow, pink and green, its fragrance like a tangy floral perfume.

Sally tried it on with a big smile on her face, pride welling up inside her. She had only wanted to craft something half decent and hadn't imagined it could be this nice. She wanted to twirl but got conscious at the sight of other students. Carefully, she took her crown off and set it on the table for judgement.

Reyna had been wandering the BlossomFest stalls, looking for a booth that was open, when a plain, simple sign stood out to her. It spoke of... flower crowns? This should be fun... Reyna thought, grinning and heading over to the table. Suddenly, a bunch of scissors practically hailed down on them, and Reyna, too full of heart-stopping fear to move, froze in place. She closed her eyes, but she felt a pause before she felt anything stab her. Wearily, she opened her eyes and grabbed one of the scissors, slowly, tentatively reaching out for one of the wires. She quickly grabbed one, momentarily shocked it didn't bite her. She bent it in a circle that just about fit her head, twisting the wires in a simple pattern which cause them to wind around each other. Time to get down to business, Reyna thought, grinning and surveying the flowers around her.

Her eyes quickly landed on a breathtaking orange rose that seemed to fade to yellow as the petals flowed upwards. Reyna quickly grabbed that, practically lunging across the table in order to get it. Gently, Reyna set it down in her spot before her eyes were captured by the beauty of a simple baby's breath, the small white blossoms on the ends of the dark green stems catching her eyes. Perfect, the girl though grinning and picking up quite a bit of the plant. I just need a few more... Reyna thought, taking one last quick scan of the flowers in front of her. Suddenly, she noticed something that stuck out. Not for its color, rather, but for its lack of color. It was a small cluster black lilies. Without a moment's hesitation, Reyna's hand shot out, most of its own accord, and grabbed the flowers.

This is the hard part Reyna though, slowly picking up the metal circle she had created. Slowly, she put the baby's breath into the crown, threading it through the twisted wires and causing it to look almost like a starry backdrop, with the stems stretching up to the sky, the greens interweaving with each other in a net-like way with the white blossoms dotting the web here and there, with a large multitude of blossoms causing the top to look like a lacy line of white.

Delicately, Reyna picked up the black lilies, slowly tracing the petals with her finger before grabbing the bottom part of the flower's petals. Slowly, one by one, she threaded the flowers into the wire and web of green, only putting them towards the front of the crown causing it to almost appear as if were a tiara, one with a luminous backdrop of speckled white that almost seemed to hover behind the abyss colored flowers with the lustrous golden centers.

Taking a deep breath, Reyna picked up the sunset shaded rose, delicately lining the stem up with the very center of the crown. Slowly, carefully, she inserted the flower into the bespangled chasm of black and white, and she had the sun to her starry sky. It was done.

The intertangling thread of dark green that hovered close to black supported the ivory flowerets of the baby's breath, looking as if it was a midnight sky in the heavens. The stygian black flowers in front of this net had gilded centers that seemed to shine in the centermost part of the flower, especially luminescent against the black that surrounded it. Then, the crown jewel. The orange rose seemed to glow as strong as the sun against the black and white, the same red-yellow color as the sunrise or sunset.

Reyna stepped back from her creation, glowing with pride at what she had just made. She admired the petals of the flowers and how they contrasted and matched each other, the whole time something tugging at the back of her head. When this contest is done, I should give it to Serena, Reyna thought, remembering some kind of rumor about her getting hurt. "Finished!"

Flower crowns, that was doable, heck even muggles knew what a flower crown was. When he’d heard the herbology teacher was hosting an even he’d decided to go see what it was about though he’d been surprised when he’d found out that it was perhaps one of the more mundane activities he’d seen the school play host to.

That said it seemed as if nothing at Hogwarts could pass without some strange magical twist to it, this was of course punctuated via flying scissors. Even though they were a welcome tool for this even he was unprepared for them to capable of flight.  Snagging a pair he looked over his materials, this was much more in depth than a daisy chain though that didn’t particularly perturb him. Starting off with his base he decided his crown would be predominantly vines, grabbing Ivyve ha began entertwining two lengths of the stuff until he had a length he could wear on his head. It was rather cathartic to work with his hands instead of magic for once he enjoyed the simplicity of the task.

After some time the base of the crown came to be, a long strand of woven Ivy. Next to add the pizzazz as far as flowers went he wasn’t overly familiar with them outside of those his mother grew, different types of lilies, So hunting those down he eventually found a Calla lily a lemon lily and a easter lily. After a few more moments he decided that too many flowers could be magical and he just didn’t know anything about them so he didn’t use them.

Happy with what he had he twined the stems of the three flowers into his crown which took a few minutes the flowers almost being too big to tie in well. But with a pair of sharp scissors and a will there’s a way. Finally done he grinned looking over his handiwork. A simple vine with three flowers coming out of it. Placing it on his head he approached his professor.

A faint smile growing on her lips, Cel ran a passive hand over a couple of wires, selecting one that was thinner than the others and easy to bend. As the scissors flew towards the group of students, she plucked a small and sharp pair from the group, beginning to shear off lengths of wire to braid around the main piece, then bending the ornate wire into three large loops to go around the head.

As she browsed the collection of flowers and leaves, adding a thin vine to the braid, a collection of flowers caught her eye... white asphodels, they were called, weren't they? Long, teardrop-shaped white petals, beautiful and clean. Cel gently collected a couple of the pure flowers, careful not to crush the stems. The darkest wolfsbane flowers, a beautiful black flower resembling a darkened gardenia, and a delicate vine of jasmine and wisteria soon followed the asphodels, and she laid down her chosen floral components in front of her.

Weaving bits of vine and leaf into the wire, Cel alternated black, purple and white, adding in branches of vine in between the dark colors. She thought as she worked, fingers nimbly knotting and braiding without destroying the soft petals. The piece was beautiful, no doubt, it just didn't have that kind of... eccentricity that she was looking for.

Then, a particularly thin strand of misty vine caught her eye. Cel wasn't exactly sure what plant it was, but the vine was thin and a dark mottled green, covered in minute blooms the color of mist. She picked it up, raising it to eye level, fingering its tiny petals. Yes, this would do. She'd seen pictures of beaded curtains and veils. Why not replace beads with blossoms?

So the girl threaded one end of the vine through the loop of her headpiece, allowed the rest to dangle down, and knotted the other end next to the first. She repeated the process several times, alternating the layers of the vine, until the result was a beautifully created veil of flowers, trailing down the hair and just hinting its appearance beyond the shoulder.

Cel smiled. This was exactly the kind of touch she had hoped to add. But there was still something missing... something as a crown jewel. No, the crown jewel.

The rose was too red. The lilies were too innocent. The bleeding heart, too long. How many flowers would she go through to find the perfect one? But no... a white flower, nearly out of her view, caused her eyes to follow its irregular shape. It had the consistency of the rose, the pureness of the lily, the radical feeling of the bleeding heart.

"A ghost orchid," she breathed under her breath. They were supposed to be rare, but they were so beautiful... and so perfect as the centerpiece of her circlet, combating the deep colors of the other blossoms. It was just right.

Celynne grinned, holding up her creation, ever so carefully as to not ruin the delicately arranged petals. A work of contrast, the Oxford professors might tell her. Beautiful to her, even if not to others. Perhaps she should keep it for once. And so the girl set it carefully on her own head, the light colors contrasting and the deep vibrancy bringing out the rich tones reflecting off of her black hair.

The BlossomFest was in full swing when Lucy finally made it out into the sprawling event. She could not help but feel a bit behind, as she liked to arrive just as things were starting.  She heard several screams directly behind her, and she turned to see... scissors?! She dropped to the ground just in time, several small pairs whizzing above her head so closely that they flew through her still airborne hair.

Intrigued, she scrambled to her feet as the last pair flew overhead and followed them. She found herself at a rather unexpected place: a build-your-own flower crown sort of booth. Lucy had made tons of flower crowns out of dandelions before, but none so complex and exquisite as the ones she saw her peers making. There were hundreds of flowers to choose from.

Lucy tapped a finger to her lip. Sure, she'd give it a go. She didn't know what colour scheme she wanted, so she decided on size. She wanted something big, something bold.  She cut her wire with a pair of scissors - probably the same ones that nearly impaled her - and began her search. She hunted for the largest blossoms on the table. She saw peonies of various colours and decided to start with those. She opted for some pale purple and coral peonies, alternating between the two colours. Without needing to concentrate too hard, she had those giant beauties interspersed around her flower crown wire in just a few minutes. However, there was still quite a gap between each flower, so she'd have to fill it with something smaller.

Some beautiful, fiery orange-red carnations caught her eye. Next to those were even more carnations of a deep amethyst colour. She grabbed a few of each and clustered them together at the front of her crown, filling in the two most prominent gaps. As she worked, she hummed a tuneless song under her breath, enjoying the sunshine and working elbow-to-elbow with other first years. This crown is going to be gorgeous, she thought, and searched for the last few pieces to finish the look.

She plucked a few sprigs of lavender from the table, opting to have them point up in various directions from the circlet to give it some height and extra dimension. Finally, she opted for weaving in branches of dark green bay laurel around the sides and back of the crown. She held the crown away from her to scrutinise it.

In the front, the large, bright blooms of the delicate peonies the size of her palm mixed with the smaller, brighter carnations immediately captured attention. The sprigs of lavender popped up around the entire crown just enough to be seen and add even more height to the already giant wreath. Finally, the bay laurel interwoven around the sides and back filled in the rest of the crown, creating a rather classic "jewelled tiara" look with shiny jewels in the front and a simple band going around the sides and back. As an added bonus, the flowers smelled absolutely divine.

Satisfied with her work, she shoved the crown onto her head and was delighted to feel it cover her entire forehead. If someone glanced her way, the effect of such a large crown on an average-sized eleven-year-old would be almost comical, as her entire forehead and even the crown of her head was obscured by the large blooms.

Lucy placed her large-bloomed flower crown off to the side, grinned at the Herbology professor, and mentally made note of which one was hers so that she could pick it up after the contest was over. "Thanks, this was fun!"

The last paragraph was added on after seeing Professor Sorrel's response for judging instructions. I thought that would be more fitting than adding another post just to set down the flower crown.

Aurelia only recently discovered the Flower Crown making contest. She loved creating masterpieces, it was one of the events which suited her. She scurried into the green house where the herbology lesson usually took place. Flowers were laid everywhere. The rare mythological flowers were beautiful as they hung in bunches from the ceiling. However, she picked her flowers from the bunches of ordinary ones as she was familiar with them. Growing up beside a field gave her an advantage as she learned about the different kinds of common flowers and grasses.

"Accio," she pointed her wand at the table across the room. A pair of small scissors came flying towards her. The scissors didn't come directly as she commanded. It swerved in different direction. The other girls squealed and screamed when it flew to close to them. Aurelia winced, she should have thought this through before giving the command. It took a few seconds before landing in her palm.

"Sorry," she called, apologising. Her fair cheeks blushed. That was so embarrassing. She though to herself.

She looked around for a measuring tape but there wasn't any, so she took a long piece of zebra grass and stretched it across her head. She marked the sides. This would be the size the crown would be. She laid the grass in on the table, lining it into a perfect circle. She began layering it with snipped twigs and flower stalks, creating a headband she also arranged it so that spikes stood pointing upwards. She held it out to examine it. She adjusted the twigs a little more. She yearned for the structure to be close to perfect. She wanted it to look like a crown that an ice queen from a fairytale would wear.

When she was satisfied with the structure, She slowly and carefully tied long stalks of grass around the bottom half, weaving them into a pretty veil that hung loosely and draped across the head, she also ensured to align them so that they wouldn't obstruct her view when she put the crown on her head. After that, she began decorating it with bright tulips and roses in the front where the forehead would be. She also twirled long vines around the spikes and let it flow to the back of the crown to give it a more natural look. She adorned the sides with ivy vines and dozens of miniature daisies, using tiny fibres of other plants to secure it.

She placed it on her head when she was done. It nestled comfortably and was just the right size. She twirled around and giggled, feeling like an elven princess. She was contented with her master piece. Even if she didn't win, she still had tons of fun crafting.

"Professor, I'm done." She said.
