First Year Entrance 2020-2021

Emmaline was hardly keeping her composure at the large lake in front of her, The teacher who was ordering them into the boats seemed slightly irritable but she decided not to press. Since she had made absolutely no friends since coming here she didn't know which boat to go into. Soon her problems were solved as only one boat was free, Boat 9. Emmaline heeded the Caretaker's words and slowly lowered herself into the boats, she wasn't afraid of the water but the large expanse of the lake around her was already making her nervous...
The boat rocked slightly as she got in next to a boy who she was too nervous to talk to. She could already tell her goal of making friends here was going out the window... what was she going to do?
She clutched her arms tightly still shaking in fear of the large area they were going to be going across, at least she had been on a boat before, right?
Her glasses kept sliding down her nose and she couldn't help but fear it was annoying everyone every time she had to push them back up, it was either wear them and see but possibly annoy others or take them off and not see but not annoy others and calm herself down as she would not be able to see the large area around her. An easy choice, she was going to take them off.

Emmaline Oswald Approved.

Talking with the new girl aboard Boat 9, @Emmaline Oswald

His boat was particularly more quiet than the rest, mostly due to the fact that he was there in solitude for a moment before he could feel the boat shift just the slightest and another young student boarded. There was no nehttps://hogwarts.io/posting.php?mode=reply&f=43&t=12530#ed to ask if this girl was a first year because it only seemed first years ventured across the lake on a boat to arrive at their new school for the very first time.

She didn't seem nervous about getting on the boat but but once aboard she stayed to herself. Not sure whether she was antisocial or just timid, he decided to guess the latter and would introduce himself. This entire experience was crazy in itself and maybe she was as overwhelmed as he was. Simon glanced around again, wondering how he had lost Gia Adelard that he sat next to on the train among the crowd but he had. He hoped that things with her were alright.

He was going to start with something sarcastic and playful like 'let's hope they're not leading us to our doom, huh' but that didn't sound like the best of ideas just in case the girl was nervous. No, just be friendly. "Welcome aboard Boat 9. I heard it's the most amazing of all the boats," he just threw that out there. All the boats were truly obviously the same. "I'm your captain for this evening. Captain Simon Kincaid. Do make yourself comfortable."

Grace stepped off the Hogwarts Express, taking in her surroundings. It was cold outside, she wrapped her jacket tightly around herself. She heard a teacher yelling for first years to meet him by the boats, so she hurriedly ran over. Unfortunately, most of the boats were already full, Grace hopped onto Boat #9.

A boy and a girl were already aboard the boat. Grace came just in time to hear the boy announce himself as captain. Grace gave a small laugh. To break the unnerving atmosphere, she said "And I'm your co-captain Grace, our journey is about to begin!" She sat on the floor of the boat, beaming at the other two first years. She really wanted to make friends, the last thing she needed was to be walking around the castle on her own.

Slowly, Grace began to think about the Sorting Ceremony which she knew will take part as soon as they enter the Great Hall (she had learned this from her cousin, who also attended Hogwarts). She had no idea which house she was going to be sorted into. To be honest, she didn't really care. Her mother had described all four houses positively, so it didn't matter to her which house she was going to be sorted into. As long as I make a few friends in these days, she thought, things will be perfect.

Having fun with @Grace Yu

"Ah, Co-Captain, Grace, so glad you for your arrival. Current air temp is 20 degrees Celsius, feels like 18.5. Winds are coming in light from due West at 3.4 meters per second. Skies are clear." And now this boy, Simon Kincaid was from London, England and had never been on a boat in his life, let alone did he know anything about boating or sailing. He was making it all up off the top of his head, doing his best from what he had read or seen on television and movies on the subject.

But he liked being playful like that and he smiled over to Grace, glad that she picked up on it. "Simon Kincaid," he introduced himself. Of course she too was a first year or else she would have been with all the other students back at the station. It seemed only first years were led this way to make their arrival to the castle across the lake.

Any others in Boat Number 9 were probably thinking the two were crazy but the fact that she picked up on what he was doing and went along with it made him instantly think of this girl as a friend. "...So, how much do you know of this destination of ours, Co-Captain?" He was curious if she had older siblings that went to Hogwarts or a parent. If she was from the wizarding world or not.

Talking with @Simon Kincaid

Grace sighed in relief. She thought that hopping onto a boat full of people she never met and suddenly announcing herself as co-captain would be weird. But luckily, she was welcomed into the boat.

Simon asked if she knew anything about Hogwarts. Grace shrugged, "Not really. I've heard stories from my parents, but who knows? Perhaps the castle had changed since they went here." Grace started fixedly ahead at the vast expanse of water. She can hardly believe how she made a friend just like that. She liked how Simon was humorous, it makes it a lot easier to spend time with him.

"Oh, and that reminds me..." Grace started, but her voice trailed away quickly. She cast a nervous glance at Simon, wondering if she should tell him about her family. Starting this conversation would mean awkward questions that Grace was trying hard to avoid. Sure, there have been dark records in her family, but she couldn't think of all the judgements and prejudice she might face if she ever told someone. After all, Grace wanted a new life, not one that was pre-written for her.

The boat journey is almost over, Grace can already make out the blurry lines of the castle ahead. She glanced at Simon again, finally making up her mind. "Look, I know you probably think I'm trying to hold something back. And the truth is, I am," Grace took a deep breath, "But I think as my first friend in the wizarding world, you deserve to know. So, um, if you want, you can meet me at the astronomy tower tonight after dinner, and I promise I'll tell you everything."

The boat gave a shudder, time for them to get off. Before leaving and joining the group of first years that has already formed on the castle grounds, Grace gave Simon a weak but genuine smile. "I'll be waiting for you on the Astronomy tower."

And with that, she climbed off board and stepped on to the castle grounds.

Entering boat 9 with @Simon Kincaid, @Emmaline Oswald,@ Grace Yu
Eleanore stepped into the boat with one free seat left. She sat next to her best friend, Simon, as she took a deep breath. This was it, this was the moment she was waiting for.

Her grandmother told her not to be scared before she entered the platform 9 3/4, it was hard not to be when you were quite literally leaving your whole life behind for a school you had so little information of.

Eleanore studied the faces of the other three people on the boat. She already knew Simon, they were best friends since diapers. She made sure she could recognize the other two girls, so that way she would notice a few faces in the large school.

She was a little more nervous now than she was on the Hogwarts Express. It was scarier knowing that in just a little bit, she would be entering a brand new life. New school, new country, new people, new everything.

From the moment she got off the Hogwarts Express, her heart raced a little too fast. Her anxiety built up from the moment she received the acceptance letter with Simon. Only now was it about to overwhelm her.

She took another deep breath, trying to ease herself. Her breathing was a little off balance, shaky even. She took a quick glance at Simon, his presence calming her. It always did, she was glad that he would always be there. It was times like this that she needed him by her side.

Now, instead of the regret and anxiety she was feeling seconds ago, she felt happiness. She was excited.

Keep your head held high and your attitude to the sky. Trust me babe, it's the only thing that will protect you from the harms of the unknown.

Taffeta hummed happily as she eagerly dropped her bags. Leaving her luggage behind didn't seem like the right thing to do, it would be something that her mother and eldest brother would scolder her for. She lived in the present never look back ant at the same time not looking forward. Her eyes darted around the senary taking in all that she could under the dark star-filled sky.

Taffeta pushed forward into the crowd, this would be one of the times she would cruse her short height, not being able to see over the heads of the taller first years. Though she did take pleasure in the sound of their frighted yelps as she not-so kindly pushed them out of her way.

Taffeta readjusted her glasses as she stood in front of a vacant boat, a too-wide smile was on her freckled covered face, she never been in a boat before and she was kind of nervous. " Only four." she mumbled to herself before she stepped into the wooden boat. she looked around the docked boats they were all full and it seemed like she would get a boat herself, she didn't know how to feel about that.

All lies carry the truth,

Sadon sighed as he disembarked from the Hogwarts express. He watched as taller students walked away obviously knowing where they were going. They must have been at Hogwarts before. Sadon looked around once more to see other kids around his age just standing there confused as fewer and fewer students walked to a pathway. That Sadon had no idea where it led. Sadon tightened his grip on his trunk and was about to walk to the pathway he saw taller older students use, but hearing a voice addressing first years like him. Made Sadon throw that idea out of his head and stop everything he was doing at the time. Which wasn’t very much since all he has done so far was get off a train and take a few steps.

Sadon like many of the students that where not facing where the voice was coming from turned around to see where it came from. Sadon looked at his trunk then at the students walking over to the man who told them to leave their luggage behind. Sadon sighed he assumed the man was probably a professor and Sadon didn’t want to get in trouble on his first day. So he left his trunk behind and began following the crowd of first years. Sadon looked at the backs of the other first years he was following. He had no worry about getting lost even though he wasn’t looking at the professor guiding him. Because well he knew none of the other first years would dare try running away. Or maybe that was just how Sadon felt.

Sadon knew he wasn’t going to run away at the very least. He didn’t want to in the first place but he knew he would not especially now. Because something about that man just made Sadon feel uneasy. He made a mental note to avoid that man as much as possible in his following years at Hogwarts. There was nothing personal behind this. But Sadon just didn’t feel comfortable around the man. And that was enough reasoning to Sadon to completely avoid a person. Sadon looked at the ground fiddling with his fingers behind his back when they came to a stop next to the lake. He began nervously shifting his weight between his legs as the man went over the rules. Apparently the mans name was Marcus the caretaker and there was another professor here.

Sadon didn’t know if the other professor was a female or male. And he really had no intention to find out as he continued to stare at the ground. While the sound of footsteps could be heard clearly as kids walked into the boats of their choosing. Sadon took a deep breath trying to calm his nerves. Even though his father told Sadon there was nothing to ear and Hogwarts was a relatively safe pace if you where one of the kids that just stayed in their dorm or library the whole time. Sadon didn’t really trust his fathers words. Since well he knew he would not be able to keep himself from exploring Hogwarts. Sadon was just too curious to not explore his new surroundings. Soon enough Sadon looked up and saw all of the boats full but one boat. There was only one other person on this boat. Sadon walked up to it and carefully got in the boat.

Carrying her pink tote bag, Vivian followed the other first-years away from the train and towards two people, a cross-looking man and a blonde woman. Unsurprisingly, she had been late getting off the train. She really hated her new uniform, and had been debating with herself whether or not to put them on until the very last minute. By the time she arrived at the boats, there was only one boat left, and there were already two people in it. Didn't the cross guy say something about there only being two people allowed in a boat? Or was it four? Let's be real, she hadn't been listening: she was busy reapplying her chapstick. Anyhow, this was the only boat left, and she had to get into it: but there was, like, mulch and stuff around the bank and she hated mulch and she hated these crotchety little boats that looked like they'd been there since De Valera was Taoiseach. 'Yuck,' she groaned, stepping gingerly into the boat. There was a blonde kid and a dark-haired girl already in there. She'd talk to them in a minute: right now, she needed to check out her nails. She'd only gotten them done the other day, and especially for this trip--it was so rude of this school to be so, well, unwelcoming of them. They were acrylic, long and baby pink with delicate swirls and detailing. So cute. She'd been suspicious she might have broken one getting into the boat, but luckily that wasn't the case.

Having slept during the final part of the train ride Atlas was a little disoriented when she stepped off. She took out her earbuds, wrapped them around the ancient iPod her mother had given her for the ride, and looked around, not knowing where to go. Whilst she stood there trying to make out details of the place without her glasses Atlas felt a little proud. Of course, she was anxious and extremely nervous but when she thought about it, she of all the people in the world got to go here. There were so many other people out there that deserved to know that not every fantasy novel was fiction. That the stories about witches and wizards were true. That magic was real. The thought alone gave her goosebumps. Magic. Is. Real.

Atlas noticed the rest of the first years leaving behind their luggage and moving toward two figures she couldn't really make out in the dark. Quickly putting the iPod in her trunk she followed the group. As the two figures came into view Atlas made a mental note never to get on their bad side. The first was a tall man. Well, not too tall but to Atlas, who was 4'6, almost everyone seemed gigantic. But that wasn't what worried her about him, he made her feel like a tiny mouse next to a lion. Quickly looking away from his face, not wanting to make eye contact, she looked toward the other figure. This one was a beautiful woman, beautiful being an understatement, with white hair that stood out in the dark.

Looking away from the figures, Atlas noticed that the rest of the first years had now started piling into a bunch of little boats by the shores of what she thought was the Great Lake. Wondering if the two adults had given instructions that she had missed, Atlas made a mental note to start paying more attention to what was going on. Anyway, not wanting to be the odd one out Atlas followed a girl with a pink tote bag into a boat with two other kids. She grinned at the memory of the jealousy she felt towards every single person she saw drifting down the Thames in a boat. It was one of her many dreams to be able to feel the breeze that was only present in oceans or lakes and be surrounded by nothing but water. Stepping into the small boat, Atlas sat down next to the girl she followed who was now looking at her fingernails. Smiling up at the three other first years Atlas hoped she could make some friends. "Hey guys!" she said, stepping into her confident persona. "I'm Atlas".
