The explosive mutual assault that would see Hufflepuff seizing a person advantage upon the field would be followed by something of a lull. Already, the quaffle had been ignored in favour of a full-on strike at opposing seekers. This trend would continue for a while yet. In the aftermath of the figurative explosion, however, this would no doubt be more as a result of lost manpower than actual intent to ignore opportunities for points. Three figures would blur as they raced around the pitch—Thora, Aaron, and Heinrich—as each attempted to complete their proscribed penalty lap in due haste. They, at least, were forced to forsake the quaffle, obligated to fulfil their punishments for cheating before they could resume play. But even those that could have gone for the leather chose not to.

With Ethen having spied the snitch, Serena was quick to pick up on the cue and get into position to help him. Admittedly, what were a few points scored with the quaffle against the chance to help her seeker close the distance on the snitch and potentially secure the game for the badgers? While she prepared for an Alleyoop, Nico and Atlas could be seen dogging their respective seekers. With the game quickly approaching its finally, there was little question that both team's seekers now carried the burden of large targets on their backs. Thus, it should come as no surprise to see strategies diverted to rescue them from a fall in the event one or the other were knocked. But not all aspects of their strategies would maintain a defensive stance. For the first time in a while, the audience would see Koko forsake her beloved goals.

Straight from the Slytherin goalposts, Koko flew into the action. Had this been part of the plan? Or had she simply gotten too bored with the lack of any action? Regardless, her intent seemed pretty clear as her trajectory aimed for that of Ethen's. She would never quite find her mark, however. Lindsey, likewise hot in pursuit of the Hufflepuff seeker, managed to deflect the attack. Whether this was due to a shouted word of warning to give Ethen the head's up; whether she had flown physically into him as previously Erin had Dan in order to check him off the path of destrcution; or whether by some other intervention...only the players posts yet to come would be able to inform. Regardless of the reason, Koko would find herself suddenly en route with a crash course collision with Lindsey. The latter would prove to be the more dextrous, however, nimbly dodging the blatch and avoiding an untimely tumble from her broom.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Koko's evasion of the consequences. "Penalty lap for Koko Riddle," the referee would shout after the shrill sounding of their whistle, "for attempted Blatching!"

Slytherin's attempt to confound any opportunity for Hufflepuff to scrape a victory would continue as Percival made his way onto the field. Having sustained the heavy losses of Cassandra and Erin, the second-string beater, Percival, would have to shoulder the mantle of Slytherin's single-handed offensive. Although yet green, he wasted no time in attempting to do just that. Almost as soon as he had become air-borne, the boy laid claim to a bludger. The crack of a bat would echo across the stands as he sent it rocketing towards the Hufflepuff seeker. Although his aim proved sufficient, the snakes would find themselves foiled yet again as Lindsey swooped in to confound the bludger's intended path. Instead of the Hufflepuff seeker, it would veer itself towards her form. And, once again, Lindsey would prove to be just a little too slippery. But only barely. The bludger would graze against the tail twigs of her broom. It wasn't enough to do her or her broom any damage, but it was surely enough to instil into her the very real fact that she had barely escaped its crushing impact.

Percival wasn't the only new face among the players. To counter the loss sustained with Quinn's elimination from the game, Hufflepuff exchanged one captain for another as Ami took to the air to take his place. Like Percival, she had entered—albeit slightly delayed given the momentary lapse to realize that she was the replacement—with a vengeance. Only a few moments were needed for her to hone in on a target bludger that had Dan's name written all over it. It was promising to be a spectacular debut. The moment, the angle, the preoccupation of Dan as he dove with reckless abandon for the snitch...it all aligned. Perhaps it was just too perfect. In the moment right before bat and ball connected, something came over the girl. A creeping dread that served to effectively unsettle Ami and completely skew her aim. Her bat would skip against the bludger at an odd angle, sending it flying in a direction entirely other than what she had intended.

The pressure was on. Both of the seekers had seen the snitch. In order to recover some ground, Ethen had elected for the unlikely and difficult Alleyoop. Serena had been observed previously to align herself into position for the move. It went off without a hitch. Round and around Ethen would go—a rather comical affair from an audience perspective—in an effort to gain speed and acceleration with the rotation. But, as Slytherin had demonstrated having attempted the same move shortly before, it was one that was difficult to master. To their credit, Ethen and Serena would go through the motions with a certain textbook quality, the seeker released on the right path towards the snitch. It just wasn't enough, however. Only some of the distance had been made up, and the little flying treasure trove of points would remain well and out of reach.

Although Dan had taken a tumble after being Pincered by the Hufflepuff chasers moments before, he had been caught by the astute Tyranni and was right back on track. To some degree, at least. At the very least, he hadn't lost sight of the snitch. With his direction, the two would dive. A harrowing, reckless pursuit that many an anxious seeker would employ in an attempt to secure a swift victory. It was the sort of high risk, high reward endeavor that usually left a seeker knocked from the air, but could sometimes be enough to grab that little ball just in time anyway. Rather incredibly, Dan and Tyranni would find no bludgers, no blatchers and no offensive of any sort directed towards them. They were entirely free of distraction. Sort of. It was a funny thing, fear. Once its effects had been felt, it had a way of clinging to a person, hesitation compounding evermore upon itself. Unease had washed over Dan sufficiently enough to interfere with his performance earlier, and he and Tyranni would feel its effects again. As a result, the dive wouldn't quite go according to plan; and once again, the snitch would elude him.

At this point, it was anybody's game.

With it clear that Ethen had spotted the snitch, Atlas wanted to make sure at all costs that he was protected so she once again abandoned her place in front of the goals and went a step further to also neglect her temporary chaser position.

Flying near him but still out of the way so as not to distract him from his purpose, Atlas hovered on her broom as she tried to catch glimpses of the opposing team to try and catch on to their plans. Perhaps because she was a keeper or maybe because she had been battling against Koko for most of the game, Atlas quickly noticed the young girl venturing away from her post and heading for Ethen.

Narrowing her eyes, Atlas watched as she attempted to blatch only to have Lindsey quickly defend the attack and the ref call out a penalty lap. “It won’t be that easy…” Atlas scoffed under her breath as she heard the crack of a bludger connecting with a bat as Slytherin’s newest addition to the field sent his threat towards Ethen only to have Lindsey once again defend him, the bludger just narrowly missing her.

Atlas felt her hands tighten around her broom as her knuckles whitened but thankfully she hadn’t been needed to save Ethen from a similar fate as their last game. For now, he was okay and Slytherin was deeply underestimating the notoriously kind house that they were up against.

This must be declared by the Keeper if either of these free actions are to be utilized.

Now that the distraction was gone, Flash could watch the match properly. If only it was a more pleasant game... Slytherin had intended to do a few risky moves to put themselves ahead, but at this point it looked more like desperately trying to snatch a victory out from underneath the badgers. They were a formidable team for sure, but Dan was now clearly going after the snitch with Miss Tyranni. The problem was, it looked like Ethen was going after it too. Forgetting the annoyance from only moments ago, Flash was now on the edge of his seat, his brow furrowed and fabric from his shirt clenched in one hand. Come on...

Howard continued to pace back and forth on the sidelines, his hands white knuckled as they gripped his broom. Red eyes were glued to the sky above as the action...stalled. Regardless of what either team tried it seemed failure was out to get them all. Bludgers whizzed past their targets, Seeker’s hands came away empty and those ready to catch the fallen would simply fly in circles. This next round had to be the one. Tales of matches lasting weeks danced around Howard’s mind, but surely that couldn’t happen here?! The Huffles serving penalty laps would be back in action shortly. It was time to go all out! “LET’S GO!!” He bellowed his cheer to the sky!

Broom: Twigger 90 - In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.

Unlike the last round, nothing excited had happened

Stanley had noticed that both Ethan and the Dlytherin Seeker had caught sight of the snitch. That was something he was glad about. Other than that no one had gone for the quaffle at all! It was like a trend that only lasted two weeks before everyone dropped it and ran towards the next big thing.

"Don't worry. He'll catch it." He whispered to himself letting out a shaky breath. Stanley rubbed his hands together and started back up to the sky where brooms were dashing here there and everywhere. Hoping the game wouldn't be very much longer otherwise his own theories on his brain turning to sludge because he never used it might come true.

Aspen's bottom moves at its own accord, scooting to the front of her seat. This is a violent, toe-curling match, and she can only hope her team gets the snitch as soon as possible, if not, they are doomed. "Ethan! Come on! You can do this!" She cheers, trying to boost morale.

It really went against Koko's instincts. She preferred to be away from the action, working where she wouldn't get hurt or hurt others, but she would do anything for her team. Plus, it didn't seem like anyone would come towards the goals.

So considering her options, Koko shot away from her goals and bolted towards Ethen.

She didn't really anticipate Lindsey. She knew Lindsey had proven a, well, an obstacle for Slytherin earlier in the game, but for whatever reason, she'd had a sudden confidence. Maybe she'd thought that since she was rather not awful at evading things, she might be able to attack things just as well.

Whatever she had thought, it was wrong. She failed. Again.

Good for her.

Koko hissed underneath her breath when she heard her name called. A penalty lap. Slytherin couldn't afford something like that. With how few people there were on the field compared to Hufflepuff... Koko was already pondering what would happen if she didn't take her penalty lap and just rejoined her team, possibly blatching again.

However, there was always the possibility that nothing she did would be counted (but if someone she pushed off their broom went unconscious, it wouldn't be that great to reverse it immediately, no?), and that fuelled her decision to steer her broom towards the edge of the field, her lips tapering into a frown. Even if her father and everyone on her mum's side of the family would look down on her for it, she really wanted to swear out the Hufflepuffs.

She felt her teeth on her lip as she restrained herself, her hands tight around the shaft of her broom, for once not tight in fear but in anger.

Now that Ami was on her broom and in the air, she had figured that the nerves would settle and she'd be on her way, thwacking bludgers at the other team left and right with reckless abandon. Unfortunately, she was sorely mistaken, as she could feel a cold, uncomfortable feeling of dread settle across her mind. Swallowing nervously, she flew up towards one of the bludgers, raising her bat to meet it. Easy peasy, just knock out Slytherin's remaining Beater, and hey presto, Hufflepuff would have the game in the bag.

But she failed.

"GODDAMNIT."

The feeling of dread reached its peak as her bat hit the bludger, and with a shudder, the bludger would sail in the complete opposite direction of where she had intended for it to go. Continuing to curse loudly, Ami tried to take a deep, calming breath to steady herself. She was Ami Procoppio, and she wasn't going to get jittery out on the field, now. She was a star, and she was going to help her team clutch the dub. Gritting her teeth and tightening her grip on her bat, she scanned the pitch to try and figure out what her team needed her to do next.

She hit the ground with concussive force. It was a sudden, jarring pain. The word, a shower of lights. She had protected her face with her hands, her head by tucking. Persistence was a non-option, this was merely a mitigation of damage. Protect the addled, fragmented mind. There was not much left.

She was not afraid, it was useless to fear what will be. She never screamed. The only sound that was heard was a puff of air, the sum of the air in her lungs expelled. She welcomed the darkness, the termination of the overwhelming pain. The mind has a way of protecting their host in times like this, a merciful darkness to end the anguish and trepidation. Once there, in the dark there was nothing. it was how she imagined death to be -- an absence of everything. No pain, no pleasure. No form. She would look about, not that she had eyes, not that she was moving. Not that there was an up or a down. No hot or cold, rough or smooth. There were no hands to touch, no knife to cut or claw to tear.

Time just moved on without her, no clock to measure. She had no place to be, nobody was waiting. It would be nice to stay.

Just a trick of the lighting they said...

A moral victory was found in the descent of Erin Ryan, even as a fresh teammate he did not care for her success in any variety. Though tensions have dulled with the played out hostilities between the two. You spend so much time in aggressive hate that it begins to wear you down and fade over time. Not to say their relationship was trending in any positive direction, but this hate has transformed into indifference. Perhaps a glimmer of unity with the wealth of shared hardships. The most recent arriving on Halloween night.

Thomas would not deter from his pacing behind the bench, knowing statistical patterns did not favor his entry with the game. The iron-woman, Koko Riddle, would likely persevere through the duration of this match and many to follow. Yet Thomas would remain prepared, staying loose and engaged, ready to go if he was called upon.
