St. Paddy's Day
You're on the good side @Simon Kincaid"I mean, we're talking about a 300 euro bottle, I would have been pissed off too. Especially when you were ten, you certainly didn't enjoy it like you were supposed to." Haley joked, not wanting to imagine how mad the father must have been.
Haley started laughing at Simon's comment, "Better be, my right hook is stronger now than it was when I was four." She put on a wicked look and flaunted her taut biceps. But she was sure they both secretly knew that nothing like that would ever happen to Simon with Haley. Tom didn't deserve it either but she was four at the time and didn't know any other way to help herself.
By now, Haley had finished her main course and her stomach was already tightening from all the volume, but she really wanted to eat another cupcake. She took one and put it next to her plate in the hope that she would be able to eat something else in a few minutes. Meanwhile, she thought about Simon's question, had she ever had a boyfriend?
"Mm, let me think for a minute." She started counting with her fingers and winked at Simon. "I'm just kidding. Not really. The Tom thing was a bust. Even if I had developed any interest then, he would have avoided me for any chance. But I can't blame him" She shrugged and laughed. "There were two guys, one in Ireland. His name is Noah and we were sort of best friends. I really liked him and he liked me but I was five and he was six and just sort of kids, you don't talk about feelings like that. So at the end of the day we were just really good friends and then that fell apart when we moved." Now that she thought about it, it made her sad. Not because she'd never had a kindergarten love affair with Noah, but that she'd left her best friend behind in Ireland at the time and that had been the end of their friendship.
"And then there was Paul." She paused for a moment and had to shake her head. "Paul was the popular boy in our class at Muggle School in London. All the girls had their eyes on him, except me at first. To be honest, I didn't like him at all at first. Long story short, eventually I got to know the real him and we became friends. This developed into a very good friendship and at some point we were the couple in the class. We did a lot together, held hands but we never kissed. He had tried once - and no, I didn't punch him in the nose - but I said I wasn't ready yet. It went on like that for a while until one day I saw him holding hands with another girl in the school playground. That was the end of that." She shrugged her shoulders, at the time it annoyed her and she was also very sad, but today she was aware that it had never been a real relationship and the two of them had no attachment to each other. It was different with Simon.
"So actually not a real relationship either. And what about you, Mr. Casanova?" she asked curiously and was sure that Simon had more to contribute to the topic than Haley.
By now the tension in her stomach had eased and after taking a sip of water she choked when Simon asked if the food was poisoned. She coughed a few times and laughed at the same time, which only made the coughing sound worse. She collected herself for a moment and shook her head, "Oh No, don't worry. That would be too easy to trace back to me." She winked at him and coughed one last time. "You'll always be on the good side, I'm sure of it." She said in conclusion and took a bite of her cupcake.

Cupcakes with @Haley Rose
"I was the Tom," he began. "Began chasing girls when I was 3 or 4. Something about your hair smelling of strawberries or something, I don't know. Always liked them. I had a lot of girlfriends throughout the years, sometimes just the holding hands type and all." But he had never double played someone like Paul apparently had.
He didn't want Haley to be upset by any of this though and she didn't have to. Things with her felt more serious. Maybe it was because they got along so well so early on in this adventure of his into the wizarding world. Maybe it was because he was able to help her through her parselmouth discovery, or the fact that she entrusted him with a family heirloom in the ring he wore daily.
Whatever it was, he was glad that it was there. "No one's ever made a St. Patrick's Day celebration for me before," he smiled. She was attempting to try a cupcake and he felt he owed her since she said that they were the flavor of lemon drops. Simon reached over to the side of the table and took one, taking off the wrapper before just staring at it a moment. It was going to take a moment to gather himself before he could take a bite - just because sweets were...well, so sweet. He took a small bite but she was right, it had the sourness that lemon drops held and he smiled. "I like the icing best."

trying to act cool @Simon Kincaid
After the first bite into the cupcake, she frowned slightly as the sour taste spread throughout her body. She had almost forgotten how sour the cupcakes had become, but after a few bites she got used to it and began to enjoy her dessert, smiling contentedly to herself.
Haley's smile disappeared for a brief moment, barely visible but for a tiny moment she was startled by his response - I was the Tom. But she tried to laugh it off. But his words made her think. About things she didn't really want to think about. Always liked them. He had a lot of girlfriends. It was as if she suddenly saw another Simon in front of her and at this thought it felt as if a lump was forming in her stomach. She told herself that it was all the food and the cupcake, but she knew that it wasn't.
It was still the things in her head that she didn't want to think about, yet did. A different view of Simon that she didn't want to have, yet she did. What did he mean by 'he always liked them'? Did only one girl have to walk past him and he started chasing her? And most importantly, was Haley just one of many? But while she tried to put these thoughts out of her mind and not let on, she looked at Simon and she just couldn't imagine that this was something of many.
Nevertheless, a small wrinkle formed on her forehead as she pondered it. Even if she didn't want it and even less wanted Simon to notice anything. Insecurity and jealousy were not personality traits that were appealing. And after all, it felt so special to her. But was it the same for him?
She smiled at his remark, at least one thing she could serve with that was the first time for him. Even if it was just a St. Patrick's Day.
As he reached for the cupcake she looked eagerly at his reaction. She knew sweets were a difficult subject and she wouldn't blame him if he didn't like it but she was curious to see if he found it as sour as she did. And to her surprise, he said he liked the icing the best. "Really? You're allowed to be really honest!" she challenged him with a serious look. "But I'm glad if you really like them."
It occurred to her at that moment that she hadn't said anything about the whole girlfriend thing and feared that it was clear that Haley was having second thoughts about it. She wanted to say something about it but somehow didn't and almost panicked as she was clearly overwhelmed by the situation. "I'm glad I'm not the second or third person to celebrate a St. Patrick's Day with you." She laughed, hoping very much to cover her insecurity.

@Haley Rose, the boy is trying
He could tell that she seemed bothered. It didn't just seem to be from the sourness of the cupcakes (which he found to be delightful). Haley might be a strong girl but he knew her well enough to know that something was off. He watched her, thinking back on their conversation.
Was it the mention of the Irish Whiskey? Or was it something more current, like his talk of multiple girlfriends? "Hales?" he paused, not really sure what to say. He looked up, his eyes connecting with her green ones.
"I've never been the Paul type. I might have had a lot of girlfriends through the years but I don't just throw them away in one afternoon. I value all my relationships. All my friendships." He held many close to him. "I've held hands with other girls and I've danced with other girls and I've kissed other girls but uh," he stopped again because this wasn't a comfortable conversation for anyone to have - especially a twelve year old with his current girlfriend.
"But uhh, ...." he tried to find the words. "Just because you've done those things in the past doesn't make what's going on in the future all the same. I feel I can talk to you about things that I can't talk to everyone about and I want you to feel you can come to me about anything. I feel like we've got this bond and I haven't ever felt that before."
Hopefully she knew that she was special.

St. Paddy's Day
still feeling childish @Simon Kincaid
When his gaze met her eyes, she knew she hadn't covered it up. And she also knew that it could be seen in her eyes right at that moment. The uncertainty and the fact that it made her think. Oh Crap, Haley thought to herself, the situation could only get awkward and how could she possibly justify her behaviour? She just hoped she was wrong in assuming Simon had noticed something and he would just ask a normal question and so she didn't answer, but tried to look at him questioningly as if nothing had happened, but to no avail.
And the next sentence also let her know immediately that she had not been very successful. Crap, Crap, Crap was all she could think to herself. She didn't want to be the girlfriend who had to be assured that she had nothing to fear. She didn't want to be a person who made an insecure impression, but that was exactly what she was at that moment. She nodded briefly at him to signal that she didn't think so, but somehow she was still afraid of it.
Held hands with other girls, danced with other girls and kissed other girls - at these words a feeling arose in Haley that she had never felt in such a situation. It was like when the roller coaster had reached the top and now started to roll steeply downwards at lightning speed. Like when she stood on the three-metre tower and gathered the courage to jump from the height into the water below. It was a kind of uneasiness, a kind of insecurity and there was something else. It was jealousy. Haley Rose was jealous.
And that only caused more emotional chaos inside her. She had never been jealous before and she didn't want to be. But the thought of Simon kissing someone else made her angry. Yet he was talking about the past. Haley felt silly. She knew it was silly, yet feelings won the battle against her.
But his last words calmed her down a little inside. Something he had never felt before. She felt the same way and it only confirmed that it was something special for him too. At least that's how she understood it. But what could she say to that? She would have preferred to just say that everything was fine and she wasn't worried about it, but that would be a lie and Haley always tried to be honest. And especially she didn't want to lie to Simon, but it felt like lying was the easier option.
But she wouldn't lie to Simon, so she tried to be honest and not sound silly about it. "Um, thank you for saying that." She began, looking back and forth sheepishly, still unsure of what to say. "And it's the same for me!" she replied quickly, scratching the back of her head a little uncertainly. "It's just, I don't know how to explain it...I know you're not a Paul type, I never thought you were either! It was just..for a brief moment I guess I was just scared that I was one of many, I guess?" She couldn't believe she'd just said it out loud, nor did she look Simon in the eye again, "And as much as it hadn't bothered me then with Paul, the idea alone bothered me even more if in this situation it wasn't Paul and me but you and me."
She was sure that she had now completely shot herself in the foot. That she had completely embarrassed herself and now looked like a silly, stupid girl in front of Simon and could no longer manage to look him in the eye.
But why was it like that? Back then, when she had seen Paul with the other girl, she didn't have that feeling in her stomach, the way she had when she thought about Simon with another girl. With Paul, she didn't mourn the relationship with him, she was just sad that he hadn't been honest with her. Why was that so different? Because it was something special with Simon, but she couldn't place it. Was it love? Could she even really love at her young age? She had always been a little more mature than other girls her age but that was something Haley couldn't imagine. Had she ever really loved outside of her family?
But if it wasn't that, what was it? The fear of losing Simon. Yes. The fear that their relationship would break down? Yes. But she couldn't sum it up in a big way.

Trying to reassure @Haley Rose
The Hufflepuff boy couldn't change his past. It was what it was. He was the friendly type, whether that was having lots of friends or having girls close to him in the past, but again, it was a different sort of close. It wasn't ever like what he had right now with Haley. Not even close.
Simon felt she was still feeling rather insecure about the whole conversation and he reached out, gently resting his hand beneath her chin and raised her head slowly so her eyes would meet his. "Hey..." he whispered. "It's okay, Hales. I mean, I'm your safe zone, alright? Nothing you ever think or nothing you'll ever feel will be silly to me or stupid or foolish."
And he meant that.
Heck, the girl could murder another student, stuff them into a storeroom somewhere, and he would still be on her side whether it was to confide in him the crime or needing help covering up her tracks.
Not that Haley Rose would do such a thing, but he'd be there for her if she had.
Simon smiled to her, hoping to get one in response. "I'm glad you can be honest with me about everything," he added. What was a close bond without trust? It didn't exist without trust.

@Simon Kincaid
If someone had to describe Haley, one of the qualities mentioned would always have been maturity. Even when she was in kindergarten, she was more mature than the other children and that had not changed until today. From her behaviour she was often estimated to be two years older, but at that moment she felt like a little child. It was unusual and it annoyed her. She was usually able to reflect on things and control her feelings, but at that moment she couldn't and it drove her crazy.
When Simon lifted her chin, she wanted to resist for a moment but she gave in to the pressure of his hand and looked him in the eye. And in this situation, too, he showed her understanding. She gave him a grateful smile and reached for his hand and traced the contours of the back of his hand and his veins with her fingers as she continued to listen to him.
She returned his smile and broke her silence, "And I'm glad I can always be honest with you. That you don't think I'm stupid or foolish." She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head. She still couldn't believe that she had actually been jealous of a fictional performance. That was so un-Haley-like and a whole new side of her. A side she hoped to never see in herself again.
She got up from the table and walked over to Simon. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to ruin the mood with my silly thoughts." And she really was sorry. This was supposed to be a fun date where they would laugh a lot and celebrate together but it was never too late to save the mood again.
There wasn't much time left before the two of them would have to go to their dormitories but there was still a little time left. She leaned her upper body forward and braced herself with her hands on his thighs so that their faces were at the same height. "Care to dance?" she asked him as their faces continued to be centimetres apart, grinning at him. But before Simon could answer, she tilted forward a little and broke through the invisible wall between their faces and kissed him.
She quickly released the kiss to give him the opportunity to answer her question. Their faces now again only a few centimetres apart, she looked at him tensely and waited for his reaction.

Dances with @Haley Rose
Simon smiled, glad that she was already starting to feel better about her insecurity but it did make him wonder if he had caused any of that feeling. Was he attentive enough? Did he give her enough of his free time? Sure he had lots of friends there at Hogwarts but that didn't mean any of them were more important than Haley. He'd have to work on that so she didn't feel like this again.
The kiss was unexpected but it was nice. It didn't matter that they were so young, something about this relationship still felt pretty solid to him and he loved the connection that they seemed to have. He loved how comfortable he was when he was around her - whether it was in the presence of others or here in the Rehearsal Room for a surprise St. Patrick's Day supper.
"I don't know how to do an Irish jig," he smiled wider and laughed a little as he stood up, bringing his hand out to her so she could take it. She was the one to offer the verbal invitation of a dance, but he would now do so with a gesture.
Maybe it wouldn't be Irish music, or maybe it wouldn't be THAT kind of Irish music. Maybe there wouldn't be any music at all - that wouldn't be their first time. They didn't need it. Either way was fine for him. As she took his hand, he lead her out away from the table and the green decorations and more towards the middle of the Rehersal Room floor. There he placed one hand on her hip and held the other hand so the two could begin to dance. Times like this he was so thankful that his aunt had taught him.

@Simon Kincaid
Her little doubts had long been forgotten. Deep down, she knew that they were unfounded, but one could rarely do anything about his feelings. But she appreciated all the more that she could always be honest with Simon and that he, in return, took her thoughts seriously and didn't make fun of her. But all that was already pushed aside in her mind, today was about celebrating together and having a little fun.
She laughed at his remark, took his hand and Simon led her to the centre of the room. The two quickly found themselves in position to dance and even though there was no music playing, they swayed back and forth to the beat that was invisible between them. It was almost as if dancing had started so much and in a way it was becoming their thing.
As they danced silently, Haley moved a little closer and put her head between Simon's head and his shoulder. Soon their time together would end here again and they would go their separate ways, all the more reason she wanted to enjoy this moment. When she had first set foot in this enchanting place, she had never expected everything to turn out the way it did now. But it is better than she could have ever imagined and the thought made her grin to herself. Somehow things always turned out differently than one had imagined, but it was good.
But she hadn't forgotten Simon's words and wasn't going to let him go to bed before he at least tried to dance an Irish jig. "Sooo, an Irish jig?" she spoke now, smiling broadly at her words. She didn't let go of Simon's hand and pulled him behind her to the piano and quickly played him a tune. "If I might ask the gentleman to play this tune." Irish jig
After Simon took a seat at the piano, Haley walked back to the centre of the room and started laughing. "By Merlin's beard, it's been far too long since I've done that." But for Simon, she would do her best. "Watch and learn." She spoke as she got into position. Crossing her legs and placing her front foot on the tips. She nodded briefly to Simon and gave him the sign to begin. And then she began, tap dancing with her feet, changing legs, moving around the room and here and there was a long drawn out jump. She started slowly, but after a while she came back in and quickened the pace. She laughed out loud, especially when a mistake happened to her but she didn't care. She tried to pick up the pace even more but her leg coordination was not up to the speed and quickly her legs felt like they were knotted and she tripped over her own feet.
She cushioned the fall and flipped onto her back as she started laughing out loud. The fall hadn't hurt but her stomach did from all the laughter. "I'm fine!" she exclaimed while laughing and holding her stomach. "You definitely shouldn't do it like that." She added with a laugh and shook her head.

Sitting next to @Haley Rose
He liked being close with Haley and swaying back and forth. No music was needed as the two seemed to be on the same page when it came to this sort of thing. There didn't need to be a rhythm, they were just already in sync with one another.
But then she brought up the Irish Jig and he couldn't help but laugh because he somehow knew that Haley was being completely serious about this. No matter though, he was always up for trying anything new at least once. How did someone know if they liked something if they never tried it?
Coming with her to the piano, he listened carefully. Simon had a gift for music and while he knew the correct notes and how to read sheet music, he had a knack for playing by ear. Still, this was a rather complicated thing to remember but the more she played on, the more he realized it was the traditional sort of Irish music he had heard for such a thing, so at least he had some familiarity with it.
"There's no way I'm going to get this down perfectly. Fair warning," he said as he moved to the middle of the piano bench once she got up. He began, best he could, and he watched as she danced. She probably thought she was awkward but she wasn't. It was fun to watch and she was beautiful. What he loved the most is that she was having fun.
When she came to her final flight - and fall - Simon abruptly stopped playing and stood up, concerned for her safety but she was laughing away, causing him to follow. "Now this is just getting far too dangerous," he said playfully, coming over to her and sitting down on the floor beside her. "Can't have us past curfew trying to get you to the Hospital Wing."
