She felt it - the moment when the weight of the world seemed to physically fall upon Howard's shoulders for how weary he suddenly seemed. She wanted desperately to help ease some of that weight off of him; to let him know that he didn't have to be alone if he didn't want to be, but words could be pretty things so far different in expectation than the actions they gave shape to. Kit - and, thus, Ty - knew that to simply claim such a promise wasn't enough, partucularly for someone who had felt as hurt and betrayed as Howard in the past. They would have to prove themselves through other means and they fully intended to when the time came.

For now, however, Ty sniffed loudly in stubborn defiance and just hugged tighter when the boy both younger and older than her in so many ways let his head fall against her shoulder and claimed no one could make the promise she had tried to. "Watch me," she murmured against him, feeling the hot blood of his tears soak into her clothing as her fingers clutched deeper into the folds of his own.

The fierceness of her protective words ebbed somewhat as sorrow and concern replaced it when the two separated again and Howard answered her question. he wiped his eyes and she blinked back her own salty tears as she listened, thinking. Then, with difficulty, she tried a painful smile.

"Oh, so I can't promise I'll be there for you from now on, but you can be certain of your own mother's actions? Since when did you know how someone else would react better than I know how I, myself, would?" Ty tried to tease, moving to playfully and lightly punch him in the arm. "Try to keep your chin up, Howard. The future isn't set in stone. And with a will as strong as yours, if anyone can change their percieved fate, I'm sure you can." Her smile became something more serious; an expression more reminicent of Kit's than her own. "And I will do my very best to make sure you're not the only one working to change that fate, either, if that's what you truly want. Even if I need to go see and talk to your mother myself."

The smile returned once more, though in the form of a bittersweet smirk, once the fourth year student asked if her parents had ever 'come around'. "That depends on what you mean by 'come around'," she replied with a small shrug. "I'm sure they love me even if I'm not sure they have entirely accepted me for who and what I am. If they didn't, they probably wouldn't have been so worried about my nature and what the world would think of me.

"I left for Ilvermorny before I could learn or think over any of that, though. And shortly after graduating, I tried to disappear from their lives altogether. Changed my name and moved away once I was a legal adult and could do that without them being able to find me."

Tymiko sighed deeply. "It was probably my own fault that I didn't stick around to give them time to accept it. I was likely too afraid to think they might have never been able to. But..." A grin swept across her lips. "...if my brother coming here to attend Hogwarts means anything, I'd say they've at least accepted that magic runs in the family. Who knows? Maybe one day I might even find the courage to face them again."

She reached up to pat the taller boy's shoulder. "Do me a favor. Don't be a coward like I was and wait years with your own fear and regret to find out the truth."

@Kit Paine
“Yeah, alright.” Howard said with a shrug. He just couldn’t see it. A future in this world that didn’t end up with him alone. Sure, he had made some friends and even developed a young love with Falentra, but like all things that was beginning to crumble. The last four years had been nothing but loss for the boy. First his family and Muggle life followed closely by part of his humanity. The trauma of it all still barely processed. It clouded his mind and made it impossible to see past it. To realize that life was what you made of it and not what was laid out for you. Hopefully more people like Kit and Ty would come along and do their best to guide him away from the path of darkness because it was sure to take many.

In spite of how miserable he felt Howard couldn’t keep the corner of his mouth from rising into a smirk as Ty teased. “Smart ass.” He was always one to enjoy a sharp tongue as it always cut through the typical BS that most people threw his way. Howard’s eyes would fall to the floor again as Ty spoke of fate and even offered to speak to his mother for him. It was something he had never considered before, but he knew right away that it wasn’t something he wanted. If anyone was going to face his family again it was going to be him, but not until he had what he needed. “Uhh I dunno if that would work. Thanks though. Gotta figure it out for myself don’t I? Can’t be askin’ others to do ya dirty work.”

Howard was happy that the conversation shifted away from his problems and towards Kit and Ty’s. It was still hard for him to see the difference between love and acceptance. Shouldn’t the two go hand in hand? Life was unfortunately not that simple but Howard couldn’t help but feel that rejection meant love lost. His brows would raise as Ty spoke of leaving home and making an new name for their selves. What an appealing thought. Perhaps Howard would run away to America, how did they feel about Dhampirs? “What’s it like in the states?” He wondered out loud before a scowl flashed quickly across his face. “I don’t see how shippin’ someone across the world is accepting.” A sensitive subject for the young Dhampir.

Howard would simply shrug as Ty challenged him not to follow in their footsteps. Although it was a dismissive action this was the first time in ages that he had spoken so much and openly about his family and feelings. The weight that was crushing his shoulders felt just a bit lighter as the pair conversed. Perhaps it was just because Howard needed to vent or maybe it was reassuring to have someone stand beside him in spite of his actions. Support who’s be key if he had any hope of a fulfilling future, hopefully he would be able to find more and keep it. “So why’s he comin’ here instead of stayin’ back home?”
