Jackson was not looking so good as the boy grew paler the more the duel drew on. From everything that Santario knew, it would not be long before that boy hit the ground, which would leave the still exhausted-looking Everly to try and save the duel, which she could not do if she was only dodging. Eventually, she would get hit.

It would seem that their duel was going to be prone to repeating itself once more. Two blazing blue lights would fly across the stage. One from Jackson, in which Delilah only barely dodge out of the way in time, and one at Everly, who only on her last leg still managed to avoid. The poor girl had to be over it. That wonderfully relieving purple light would engulf Robert from Delilah’s wand once more, setting the fog that threatened to overtake his mind at ease.

Was he dying?

Whatever romantic associations there were with dying or falling honorably on the battlefield, Valentine wasn't feeling it. He was starting to lose the sensation in his hands, and his vision only continued to darken. His senses waned, and with it, his strength. Only the boy's determination would remain as the final beacon, the final bastion of his desire to remain standing.

Once again, Robert was rejuvenated by the purple light emitting from his partner's wand. Once again, the young Eagle fired off a spell at Everly, only to have it miss. Once again, Jackson fired off a spell at Delilah, only to have it miss as well. Once again, Everly did nothing. A heavy feeling of tiredness began to once again overcome Robert, making him remember his lack of sleep from the previous night. Although adrenaline from the duel had been fueling him this far, it was beginning to wear off, both because of how long this was dragging out as well as because there was nothing adrenaline-worthy happening.

Everly once again dodged, the duel starting to repeat itself over and over again. Her eyes began to wander as she inhaled sharply, knowing there was no doubt she was going to get hit sooner or later. Preventing the inevitable was never a good strategy, but she wanted to hold on as much as she could.

How on earth did they keep missing her? at this point it had been 10 rounds of spells without knocking her out. She didn't want to cause pain to anybody else without being deserving, but it was a duel, she would be healed after and be fine. But how was nothing touching her? so little was happening, it was a bit infuriating.

Santario rolled her eyes this round, just like the countless past would see no one successful in their endeavors save for Delilah casting Reparifors and Everly not getting hit. It was clear that Jackson was on his very last leg, in fact, so much so that Santario looked back at the medics and made sure they were ready. It could be any second now. The Ravenclaws certainly could outlast Jackson, but sooner or later, they would need to start taking a double assault against the girl and the fourth year had far more experience under her belt than the first year, which probably also included better aim. But what did Santario know? Maybe Everly would manage to dodge everything from here till oblivion and make the Ravenclaws forfeit. Perhaps they’d just die here, and Santario couldn’t help but chuckle softly at the thought.

His laboured breaths grew heavier as a fog descended on his mind. One spell was all it had taken. Damn fourth year...

As his movements slowed, his determination melted into a different sort of emotion. Fear? No, that wasn’t it. Resignation. The acknowledgement that he had given it his all.

For a moment, he remained suspended in motion, an object moving freely by the forces acting on it. He had no choice in the matter of his path. He never did. For Jackson Valentine, control over the outcomes of his endeavours remained just beyond his reach where he could see but not touch them. Icy, cold malice seemed to wrap itself around his limbs as a mocking laughter echoed in his ears. An unexpected wave of self consciousness passed over him then. What really was the point of this? Was this helping him get any better? To be made the subject of public ridicule and another symbol of Gryffindor failure?

No. Almost twenty years ago, the dueling club was reopened in Hogwarts with the intention of preparing students for the dangers of the real world. He was there to learn to defend himself from what was out there, and oftentimes, that included other wizards and witches. No matter where his journey took him, his gaze would forever be fixed beyond the darkness of the night upon the astronomy tower, seeking a future he could not find, a dream he could not chase.

Or perhaps he had been chasing it blindly all along.

With the last of his strength, he locked eyes with @Santario Martin one final time, absorbing himself in those deep blue pupils as if they would give him comfort in the hours to come. She likely didn’t care much about it, and he had learned over the course of the school term to reciprocate such an apathy. Valentine’s eyes were cold, unfeeling, but utterly and completely passionate with his own, fiery resolve.

Maybe he could still take her to the owlery, watch the sun melt away into a rich, orange sea. He had always wanted to take someone to share his profound discovery.

She could see Jackson getting more and more worn down, was this the beginning of the end? This duel was lasting way longer than their last one, this one being a lot more boring, nobody had actually casted an offensive spell successfully in ages now.

Robert let out a huge yawn, bored and tired from this never-ending duel. His partner's periodic healing charms were helping to counteract many of the affects from his curse, but unfortunately, they didn't seem to be any help with this mind-numbing repetitiveness. Thankfully, Jackson seemed to be only a couple seconds away from passing out, which would at least be something different.

Tensions were high, and Santario was already on high alert, knowing that any second Jackson could hit the ground. She looked at the duellists in turn before finding one seeking her. An eyebrow raised and she nodded at the field in a way to tell him to keep his head in the game. It looked like Everly had readied her wand, but unfortunately, the girl did not act and did not try to dodge when it came down to it. Perhaps she was just too tired to keep it up; it could be exhausting to do so after all. This, however, would be Robert’s moment as he sent a Flipendo in her direction, hitting her in the chest. Everly would go down just as a Flipendo hit Robert in the shoulder.

See if there was one thing that Jackson wasn’t going to do, it was go down without a fight. His knees were weak as a flipendo shot out of his wand in Robert’s direction, and just as it hit the Ravenclaw, Jackson’s knees would buckle, and he would hit the ground. The darkness that had only been playfully ebbing on his fields of vision was now going to consume him, but not before he would get the chance to see Everly fall to the ground as well.

Delilah would once more point her wand at Robert and attempt to cast Reparifors, but something was not right. Her wand was done, and it refused to cooperate. She said the incantation and waved her wand, a purple light building at the tip of her wand before fading away. Fizzling out of existence before it could help the person it was meant for, not that it would matter all that much with her opponents falling to the ground shortly thereafter.

As all of these actions pinged off simultaneously, the very second Everly fell back, and Jackson dropped to his knees Santario was on the field. “HALT!” She commanded as she made her way over to the closest Gryffindor, Jackson. She would not get there in time to stop him from fully hitting the floor, but he might be able to notice she was on the way to assist before fully losing consciousness. Everly would not find the same reassurance as the poor girl would have been unconscious before hitting the ground. Santario would assess the Gryffindor boy and wave in the medics before making her way over to Everly and motioning once more to the medics on the field.

Directing her attention toward Robert and Delilah she would offer a small smile and a nod of respect to each. “Congratulations to Robert and Delilah of Ravenclaw, you have successfully felled your opponents! If you cannot adequately heal yourselves, please make your way to the Infirmary.” To be fair, most of them could not adequately heal themselves, and it was inevitable to make a trip to the hospital wing if you could walk yourself there, and if you could, like the two Gryffindors, you would be carried there on a stretcher.
