Look.
Look how the wind rattles the bars.
Look how the bars slice up the sky.
Slivers of blue,
Breath swoops through the stale air,
Glimmers of reflected light.

Look.
Look how the outside mocks us.
Look how it laughs in our face.
Beyond the steel,
A bird,
Hooting.

Look.
Look how dark it is now.
Look at the gaps.
Too small to fit through,
A confine,
Still.

It's dark enough now.
We could,
Just,
Slip,
Through those gaps.

We tried.

Dang that was depressing  sorry

@Anja Murtaja That was soooo amazing! I love the repetition if the word 'look' and the lines 'Look how the outside mocks us./Look how it laughs in our face./'
@Bailey Glade Your last line, 'Let me free, let me free!' is so powerful! Wow! Nicely done, both if you!

@Ginger Crowdy Of course! You have the entire week, and even after we move on to another prompt, you can still keep writing on a previous one :).

Okay, I just finished writing mine:

Dear Everett,
Iโ€™ve changed.
Iโ€™m no longer the girl
I used to be.
The girl who followed.
The girl who listened.
The girl who obeyed.

Dear Everett,
I donโ€™t believe in fairy tales
anymore.
Honestly,
I donโ€™t know
if I ever did.

Dear Everett,
Have you ever watched
the sunset?
The way the colors
streak the sky
and bathe the world
in bubblegum pink
and daffodil yellow
and blue violet
and tangerine orange.

Dear Everett,
I am that sunset now.
Unapologetic.
Unafraid.

Dear Everett,
I donโ€™t believe in walls.
I donโ€™t believe in cages.
I donโ€™t believe in pretending
to be someone Iโ€™m not.

Dear Everett,
Iโ€™m free.

@Ashley Coulson Wow! That's amazing โ€” I love the way you've written it like a series of letters. I think the last two are especially powerful!

Oh my gosh, how are you not all famous poets by now? Seriously?
@Anja Murtaja the whole thing was beautiful and poetic, and I loved all of the beautiful descriptions. It has such a great feel to it, and the last line is so wonderfully melancholy.
@Ashley Coulson wow! So many things! The overall theme was incredible, I loved how it reads like a letter looking back from a more mature perspective. There's a slight undertone of accusatoriness, but mostly an "I've moved on/look what I've become/I don't need you anymore" vibe. In the third stanza I loved all the descriptions of the colors in a sunset, such a beautiful image. The fourth stanza with the summing up of the character changes was amazing, ending with "I am that sunset now." Wow, so powerful. The "I don't believe in" stanza was also so impactful. And you knocked it out of the park with that last stanza. "Dear Everett, I'm free." There are no words.
Incredible work everyone!

Hey, @Ashley Coulson, is that about that novel you were writing? I remember Everett being one of the names.
