Melody boarded the train with little difficulty, although her hands were soaked with sweat. She looked around at the halls, rows and rows of doors to different compartments were before her, which made her all the more nervous. Everybody seemed to know each other, all laughing and chatting about previous years, and to Melody it seemed like she was the only first year there. She felt a sudden tug of loneliness, but shrugged it off and pulled her suitcase along with her as she walked, peeking through the glass doors to the different compartments.
In one compartment Melody found there was nobody inside, so she pulled her suitcase and flopped down on one of the seats, breathing a sigh of relief since she was finally alone. She tucked her suitcase away under the seat across from her and started to fiddle with the white t shirt she was wearing, it seemed to cling to her as she fretted. She ran her hands along the material of the seat, it was red, soft, and comfortable. Very welcome if you had anyone to sit with.
Melody frowned and gazed out the window, waiting for the train to start moving, and leaned her chin against a slender hand. There was a box in the corner, but she didn't think it was very important. The curtains tickled her face as she looked out at the stuffy platform, where students were waving and saying farewell to their families. That made Melody smile, and she pressed her nose against the glass, feeling it cool her down.
The brunette looked around at the walls, and down to the floor. It was sparkling clean, to her surprise, the trains she had gone on were usually trashed and full of rubbish. Melody scuffed her shoes on the ground, hearing them squeak. She really was a neat freak, and couldn't stand those people who made a mess wherever they went. It was just so easy to stay neat and tidy, why would you have to go and ruin that?
As Melody stared down at the dark floor, the train suddenly moved and she looked up and around to the door. A few passengers were still running through the hall, but now there were no more on the platform, which she noticed when she looked back out the window. She grinned, feeling the train start to move along the tracks. They were off to Hogwarts.

Walking down the corridor of the train, Arista weighed her options. She could very well looked for an vacant compartment and studied one of her books in advanced (she was thinking of her copy of Hogwarts, A History, thinking that it might help her acclimate better to the school); or, she could stay someplace occupied and hopefully not have to go through the whole trip without company.
Sure, she had her sister and brother riding the same train, but Amara Elderman proclaimed not unkindly that it would be dreadfully uncool to have to babysit your little sister when she had friends to catch up to on the ride; and Hugo Elderman had had advanced schoolwork to do. She had understood that, but at the same time, she would be lying if she said she didn't feel a tinge of bitterness at being left to her own devices so early in her magical journey.
As she deliberated seriously on her predicament, she caught a figure of a girl sitting in an empty seat out of the corner of her eye. Perhaps it's because an eleven year old girl was smaller than your average adult, but she had the impression that the girl looked a little, well... alone, in there. She briefly wondered if that was what she would look like should she also pick another unused compartment.
Arista made up her mind. Mustering all the courage she had, her hand gripped the door of the compartment and she carefully peeked in.
"Hullo," she said, offering a small smile. "Is this seat taken? D'you mind if I join you?"
There was a good chance that the young witch sitting inside had already made friends and was simply waiting for them to show up; but Arista quickly pushed the thought away. If that was the case, then so what! There was no need to embarrassed. She would just wish her a good day and move on. Nothing complicated about that!
And yet, Arista could feel her hand slightly tremble at the possibility. She could bluff to herself all she wanted, but she knew deep down, she would turn red as a radish if she had been turn away.
Presently though, with the same nervous smile plastered on her face, Arista waited for the other witch's answer.

Melody was busy looking out the window and fiddling with her hands on her small backpack when she heard a small voice from the corner of the compartment. She wondered who it could've been, the train was already moving and she had thought everyone had taken a seat. She turned to see another girl standing there, who looked just as nervous as her. For a brief moment, Melody wondered if it was simply a prank on her just because she was lonely, but shook that thought off. She smiled nervously and gestured to the seat across from her with a slender hand.
"Not at all," Melody welcomed her, "sit where you like."
Melody turned to looking back out the window with her chin on her hand. She could see trees flash by and the curtains swished around as the train flew across the tracks. She still wondered what the soft cushions on the chairs were made of, they were quite relaxing and they went along nicely with the rest of the compartment. Melody took off her shoes and curled her legs underneath her, fuzzy socks brushing her seat. The box in the corner quivered for a bit, but when she blinked again it stopped and sat still. She tilted her head and began to play with the buckle of her backpack once more.
Melody looked back at the girl who she had offered to sit down. "I'm Melody, what's your name?" She asked. If there was anything she loved more than being neat, it was making friends, she just.. wasn't very good at it.

Sighing in relief, Arista made her way into the compartment and settled her luggage on the floor carefully. She crouched down on her knees and pushed it gently underneath her seat. There. All nice and tucked in.
She couldn't be more glad that the other witch wasn't waiting for anyone. Taking the spot opposite her, Arista sat snugly on her seat. Nice and comfy.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Melody," Arista said. She smiled gently as she sway her dangling feet a little, feeling more relaxed by the moment. Melody looked friendly and nice in her eyes, not to mention plenty pretty too; it was just by sheer good luck that she found herself at the company of someone pleasant. Imagine what would have happened if she had crossed a particularly mean witch or wizard - or worse, someone who only took kindly to Purebloods!
Right now though, she was beyond relief that she didn't have to go through that. "My name's Arista Elderman," Arista told Melody, smiling. "Are you a first year too? I mean, going to be a first year. Since we haven't arrived yet and all, and...." she trailed. Coughed a little.
"It's going to be my first time at Hogwarts," Arista admitted, a little shyly. "I've heard stories from my brother and sister, of course. They're in fourth and sixth years now. But I suppose stories would be so wildly different from the real thing, wouldn't it?"
Leaning forward, Arista lowered her voice, as if speaking of conspiracies and forbidden crimes. "What do you suppose you'll get sorted as?" she asked. "I'm rooting for Ravenclaw, myself. My brother's a Ravenclaw, and I think it should be more peaceful there, if everyone's anything like my brother...." she nodded, seemingly to assure herself.
"My sister, on the other hand, went to Gryffindor. Sometimes her friends would come over during the summer holiday, and they're all very friendly, but... A little scary, in a way. Like they believe that nothing could hurt them, you know?" she said. "I just get scared that they'll fall off their brooms or accidentally wound each other when they do their pretend duel games and such..."
"Oh, do you also have siblings at Hogwarts? Or your mum and dad?" she asked Melody. "My brother said some younger siblings and children of great witches and wizards go insane trying to live up to expectations... So I suppose I'm grateful that my parents weren't Hogwarts alumni, and my brother and sister weren't 'great witches and wizards'... yet," she added uncertainly.
Then, as if waken by a trance, Arista paused and bit her lips. "I'm sorry, am I asking too much questions?" she asked, eyes full of worry.

Melody giggled, covering her mouth with a pale hand. She rather liked the girl, she was cheerful, she seemed nice, and she was ravishingly pretty. She couldn't imagine meeting someone who was rude, that was one of her least favorite things besides being messy- mean people.
"It's nice to meet you too," she smiled shyly as she picked at her pants, "I'm Melody Rathburn, I'm gonna be a first year too."
Melody watched Arista as she asked questions. The girl certainly seemed to ask a lot, but it didn't bother Melody much. Instead, it was rather.. refreshing. Just hard to keep up with, and the wheels of the train rattled on the tracks, making her look down.
"I'll probably be a Gryffindor," Melody said rather glumly, looking back up at Arista, "my whole family has been Gryffindor. I kinda wish I could get something different though."
As Arista went on about her siblings, Melody couldn't help but feel a bit jealous, she didn't have siblings, and she sort of wished for them. But it was just her and her mother and father. Nice and simple, not too hard to remember. She had a small family, even her extended family was just a few cousins and aunts and great uncles.
"It's just my mum and dad, I don't have any siblings," Melody smiled, "I have a small family."
She laughed a bit at Arista's last question, "No, of course not! I don't mind. I heard they have chocolate frogs that were real frogs once.. but that might've been my dad just teasing me," she frowned a bit before continuing, "but I heard from my mum that there's actual ghosts! Imagine, real ghosts! Not just the ones in fairytales.
"Wouldn't that be cool though?! Kind of scary too.." Melody shuddered a bit before returning to her rant, "I wonder how we're sorted? My dad said it's a magic hat but I'm not sure if he's just joking again."

Meanwhile, outside the compartment, there is a small girl with bags full of art supplies that barely fit walked incredibly slow. It was clear that she was struggling to carry all that stuff. Merlin himself cannot figure the reason why she decided to bring everything to Hogwarts, it's not like she's going to use everything anyway. Then she stopped for a bit and took a deep breath. She peeked inside the compartment and slowly open the door. Her face was flushed, she was a little sweaty, some of her stuff were spilt everywhere, and she looked between the two people inside the compartment back and forth with her mouth slightly open and closed again like a fish without water. It was not really clear whether she was shy or annoyed or angry, because she has a really serious and stern face but there was some awkward and anxiousness in her eyes. She sighed and finally made a sound after what felt like forever
"umm.. h- hii"
"Anywhere else are full, a-and i have a lots of things.." She paused for a while
"Ifyoutwodontmindcaniplease - *taking a breath* - sithere?" She said it so fast and nearly inaudible. Her eyes glued everywhere except the two people in the compartment.
And she stood there awkwardly waiting for anyone to say something

The compartment door slid open and Melody looked to it, wondering who it possibly could be next. There was another girl standing there, and she looked just as nervous as Melody felt. She listened as the girl asked if she could sit in the compartment, looking away from the two.
"I'm fine with that," Melody smiled nervously, hoping that it wouldn't bother Arista. She wanted to make as many friends as possible, as long as they were nice, and had the same interests as her. Besides, the girl who was standing looked shy just like Melody, and that was something good for her.
Melody turned to the window and looked outside at the flashes of trees and towns as it passed, before turning back to the girls, resting her chin on her hand, bored. "I wish there was something to do," she frowned. She had wanted to make friends, but she wasn't very good at talking to them. That was her mother's thing, always talking to everyone she met, always making friends and companions everywhere she met. Melody sighed and slumped down in her seat, wishing she had that talent.
And so the train moved on and Melody tapped her new wand on the cushions, making a little song as she hummed. She realized she hadn't yet introduced herself to the other girl, so she looked up and stopped tapping. "I'm Melody Rathburn," she said shyly, shuffling her fluffy socks on the bare floor. A voice sounded out of nowhere telling them that they were close to the castle, and Melody figured they had to get their robes on soon, but she wanted to finish talking to the girls first. Friends before everything else, right?
"I heard there's a big lake by the castle," Melody said dreamily, staring out the window and up at the clouds. Her father had said that, but then, it was always rather hard to figure out if he was joking or not, since most of the time he would be silly and throw a punchline.
The trees sped by and a few times they would near a lake, but there never was the castle of Hogwarts beside. Melody wondered how large the castle was, if it was like the ones in fairy tales, big and beautiful, or rather like the mansions back at her muggle home, small but elegant. It had to be large to fit so many students inside, she supposed.

The small, serious, flustered, sweaty girl was so relieved when one of the girls welcome her inside the compartment. She immediately turned her back and dragged her bags inside and hit both two people in the process.
"Sorry.. sorry" She mumbled and sat looking confused whether she should look at the window or start a conversation. But her brain cell seemed to be out of order at that moment. So she just sat and stare at the window.
She heard one of the girls said she wanted to do something. Looking around the compartment, she was the only one who had a lot of stuff for the preparation of boredom in Hogwarts excluding those inside her trunk. Her eyes looked down to her fingers, tapping on her thigh while contemplating between two choices which are responding to the bored person in front of her or stay quiet and pretend to be invisible.
The awkward tension inside the compartment was astronomical, at least for her. Finally, she thanked Merlin for his blessing because the girl introduced herself, her name is Melody Rathburn. Then she said something about a huge lake near Hogwarts. She must have talked about the black lake, she was way too familiar with her father's favorite story to tell her before she went to bed of his first encounter with his wife, which is her mother.
"Cool name.." The tone of her voice sounded a little sarcastic
"um.. sorry, I do mean it. It was cool" She tried to be more sincere, she meant it 100%. But her tone combined with her unfriendly face said otherwise. She hoped Melody understood her real intention.
"I'm Ranvier, Aurora Ranvier." She added
"Yeah, i- it was big. My fa- father always told me about that time when he accidentally fell to the lake an- and saw the giant squid's tentacle and how my mom saved him back in his se- second year." She laughed a bit and smiled for the first time

One of the girl's bags hit Melody while she was getting seated, and she frowned a bit, rubbing her reddened ankle, before looking back up to see her apologizing. Melody shrugged it off and listened as the girl comment on her name.
Melody blinked. Was the girl being sarcastic? Should she have been talking to her? But she apologized once more and really did say it was cool, which made Melody smile once more as she listened to the girl explain that her name was Aurora Ranvier.
"That has to be one of the prettiest names I've ever heard," Melody said in awe. It was true, the name was beautiful, it was elegant, and it was the name of one of those muggle princesses on television. She had had a TV at her house, since they lived in a muggle town. It was a pretty boring town as well, Melody had always thought, it was plain, and simple. She wanted to live somewhere bright, and colorful. Not somewhere with the same white houses dotted along the same paved road. Which brought her back to the houses.
"What house do you want to be sorted in?" She asked Aurora brightly, surprising herself with how confident she sounded. Confidence was definitely not her strong spot, in fact, she was rather the opposite. Very shy, very closed and not open. Well, she was open enough, and did tell people a few things about herself, but she never saw the need to tell them everything.
Melody hoped to be in something other than Gryffindor, since her whole family had been a bunch of lions. She liked to be different, different was good. Being the same just gave her bad feelings. The train moved along swiftly and Melody realized that they really did need to get their school robes on.
"Hey um.. we should probably change into our robes," Melody said to the two girls, hoping she didn't sound to bossy. Bossy people were annoying, and rude, in Melody's opinion. She reached under her seat and grabbed the handle of her trunk.

Aurora noticed that Melody might be felt a little offended by her comment earlier. First day, and she felt so bad already and blew away her chance of making a friend. the thought of having an arch nemesis on the first day of school was terrifying. She was glad that Melody did not went feral on her and instead, smiled at her.
Almost lost in her thought, Melody's sudden question made her came back to the reality. She wanted to know which house Aurora prefer. Aurora looked up to Melody a little surprised of the fact she still willing to have a conversation after the unintention snarky comment.
"What house? oh.. i- I'm not sure." She shrugged
"My mom was a Gryffindor and my father was a Hufflepuff. But I hope I will be in the same house of my father."
"But i don't think I have both traits in me, haha.." She let out an awkward laugh to diffuse the tension.
Before she could ask Melody back, she told her to put on the robe. It seemed like it will not be long until the train arrive at the destination, Hogwarts. She watched Melody grab her robe from her trunk and Aurora decided to do the same thing. Nervous would be an understatement of how Aurora was feeling at that moment.
"I hope it will be a good year"
"Are you excited o-or, or are you scared? of, you know. everything?" She asked Melody. Deep down she wanted to know if she was the only socially awkward person that ever exists. Although, she will never wish that someone feel the same anxiousness that she was feeling, she will be lying to say if it does not make her feel better to know she was not the only one.
