A bit of both. Callista tries to be optimistic about everything... except herself. She tends to be pessimistic about herself, and her thoughts tend to stay on all of her bad traits without acknowledging her good ones.
For example:
"Isn't it better to have more happiness in the world? ... Aw, come on, you're brilliant! Didn't you win the competition we had a couple weeks ago? ... Okay, maybe we're lost, but we still have the map, and worst case scenario we'll just send up red sparks. No need to worry..."
"Oh, I would be terrible at that job. ... No, I'm sure she would do much better than me. You can give the award to her instead. ... Pffft no one has a crush on me. Why would anyone fall for me?"

Aeron absolutely hates that. Maybe it's the ravenclaw in him. People who who senselessly draw attention like that also kill opportunities to hear from people who do know a thing or two.
