Distracted Bouncing
The sun may have been shining but the light hid a bitter cold, a strange sort of weather that came hand in hand with Scotland that Callie was accustomed to. As such it should come as little surprise that Callie was not at all swayed away from her plans to wander the grounds of Hogwarts for a while. Instead she simply put on a warm jacket and ventured outside armed with a bouncy ball in one hand and a leather bound book on duelling techniques in the other. Like much of the Ravenclaw team, duelling had become a mild obsession for Callie as it was rare for the sport not to cross her mind at least once a day. She might've always been a good student but these days Callie had thrown herself completely into her spellwork in the pursuit of continuing her winning streak.
To the outside observer Callie's movements seemed calculated judging by the precision of the circle she seemed to be wandering in. However that could not be further from the truth as Callie was entirely caught up in reading the book perched in her left hand and fiddling with the bouncy ball in her right. In truth the way she wandered would've been a distraction for most but not for Callie. After all she found it difficult to stay still at the best of times so such strange ways of keeping herself occupied was quite useful. That is until she lost her focus on her strange routine when a rogue shoelace forced her to trip and send the bouncy ball flying across the courtyard with a surprising amount of force. "ARGH-" She exclaimed as she regained her balance and glared at the source of her misfortune. "Stupid shoelace!" Whoever was unlucky enough to be on the recieving end of the ball might've even had to contend with some mild bruising but thankfully the courtyard seemed empty....right?

Eden's fingers might have been on the edge of falling off, but that never stopped him from roaming around the castle and beyond. The cold was only natural to embrace at this point, and to make up for what he missed back home, he enjoyed a stroll every now and then to spend time contemplate and further worry about all of the problems he was facing, whereas ideally, he should have been trying to clear his mind. But he simply just couldn't.
There was a lot to think about, and the worst part was that he had never come to a conclusion on any of the thoughts he suffered. At one point, Eden was so deeply lost in his own mind that he didn't even realize he had made it to the yard. Originally, he had planned to visit the greenhouses, but he somehow ended up in the middle of the castle. Surprisingly enough, it wasn't so bad, considering it was often filled with other students hanging out in the area. However, there was indeed a strange bouncy sound that tapped every now and then, and it tickled Eden's head every single time. His eyes took a quick few glances to both his left and right, but he didn't notice anyone of particular interest.
But something else did. Suddenly, as Eden turned around and made one step forward a rush of force came out of nowhere and a swift flat surface harshly hit the side of his face. Little Ed fell onto his back, primarily hitting his shoulders on the ground, a little stinging pain urged from his arm up to his neck, but the worst part was his left cheek that was bursting in red like a pepper. His mouth felt as if it was hosting a fairy party, his gums as if they had never existed in the first place, and his vision drenched from his sight. Eden was left stunned by the hit, but it missed his fury.
With his eyes burning like a brazer, and his fist pounding into the ground in anger, Eden lifted himself up with his brows narrowed downwards.
"Who threw that?!" He yelled, feeling absolutely humiliated, and if there was one thing Eden missed out on during his etiquette practice, was how to manage his anger issues. He grabbed hold of the ball that hit him and pierced his nails through it hoping to pop it. But of course, he did not have the strength, nor was it going to be easy even if he did.
"You?" He suddenly noticed a figure briefly in a distance. Someone whom he did not see the first time he inspected the area. Had Eden been a giant, his footsteps would have shaken the ground and most probably caused an earthquake. He stomped his way towards the girl, who seemed to be unaware of what had just happened, but Eden's fury blinded him just as much. In the process of making his way, Eden took out his wand, holding it with a forceful grudge. His right hand red and sweaty.
"Why did you do that?" He asked rudely as if he was interrogating a prisoner. His wand still held low. "Speak or this ball will come flying towards you from the sky." Had he known a spell to do that, Eden would have already done it.

It took much longer than Callie was willing to admit to realise that the bouncy ball had went rogue or even hit someone. The mildly clueless girl was far more entangled in tying her shoelaces to ensure they wouldn't catch her unaware again anytime soon. Well until the courtyard was suddenly filled with the angry yelling of Eden. Part of her hoped that she'd pass by unnoticed since there was still so much spellwork to sift through but the sound of furious footsteps quickly killed such hopes.
"Me?" Callie responded with an upbeat smile as she hopped back up to her feet to properly greet her poor victim. The sudden appearance of the wand caused Callie to widen her eyes slightly before carefully pulling out her own in case she needed to defend herself. Probably not the best action to take in a senario like this but duelling club had made the practice almost instinctual. "Do what?" Callie fell into silence for a moment before realising he'd likely been the poor victim of a bouncy ball. "Oh! The ball, wasn't intentional." In spite of Eden's anger she continued to hold herself with her usual brand of carefree optimism. After all it took much more than a surprisingly angry Hufflepuff to incite fear in someone like her. Perhaps it was bravery, perhaps it was foolishness. "Flying from the sky? Ooh, you know accio too? I'm still trying to practice that one! Weirdly tricky but I figured it would come in handy for duelling club." She shifted on her feet briefly before realising she should've probably apologised to the poor boy. "Sorry about that by the way....don't worry though! It didn't give you some horrific facial injury, so you're still handsome! Brightsides, right?"

Eden was not one to relate to lions or their savagery but - a lion’s roar was building deep within his stomach, and the more the ball-thrower spoke, the more tilted Eden became. He could already feel his skin pinching in irritation, in addition to the stinging pain that remained on half of his body. Something about the way she spoke and played it like a fool made her look more stupid than Eden had presumed at first sight. He was fuming, almost certain that steam was coming out of his bloody red ears. She even had the audacity to make up excuses.
LIAR!!!
The white-haired Hufflepuff thought aggressively, his face furrowing in agony - his hands still wrapped tight around his wand. Had he tried to apply any further pressure, the wood would surely crack. Thank Merlin he had spent lots of money on it.
“I don’t like the game you’re playing,” Eden viciously replied, “and to be frankly honest, I don’t enjoy most games. So cut the act.” Little Ed was more than willing to make it clear that he already despised the careless girl. The way he spoke should have been enough as he used a menacing tone. The same way a cat would hiss - the same way a dog would bark.
But of course, she had to be a member of the duelling club. That was the cherry on the cake.
“You? A duellist?” He cackled, “you can’t even aim a ball properly! I’d use more than just accio if I see that thing coming my way again.” A huge statement for someone who never whipped out their wand for such an aggressive way of magic. Eden was not horrible at spellcasting, but his range of spells in his book were, at best, for daily usage. So was the tragic life of a first year.
But if there was one thing he could, surprisingly enough, agree on, is that his face was still shining bright, except for the red.
“That I’ll forever be aware of. The consequences would be much harsher if you were to maim my face. You wouldn’t even want to dare cross my path again!” With every word that left the boy’s mouth, Eden clawed his hands in anger as if he was explaining to a two-year-old the reason why eating is necessary.
