Speaking, telling Wyatt, it had helped nothing; it relieved Alec's worries, especially with Wyatt being upset with him. But as for what felt like an elephant lying on top of his chest, there had been made no further improvements. After being told to keep quiet about the arrangement, Alec had obviously done as said, till now. Thinking about it, it was a recipe for disaster. They were telling this to a child, one who already had issues with the fact that his problems were burdens onto others, or at least his friends. It only drove Alec further into a shell he hadn't fully come out of unless provoked. He still barely knew any Gryffindor's, even from the slumber party in the common room. Getting back on track. At least Wyatt didn't know the details? That's what was bound to get Alec into trouble. Divorce or not, apparently status was still of the utmost importance. Though Alec didn't understand why if it was of the utmost importance then you'd choose something to lead to its downfall, but that wasn't on him.

Both parents had been focused on status, neither was better in that situation. But at least Alec's father had consulted him, asked him how he was getting on with everything, even how school was. A strange interaction, and with no initial bonds formed, Alec didn't know how to react. Though not knowing how to react seemed to be a common theme with things these days, it was frustrating to Alec in so many ways. And sometimes ended with the unfortunate death of a journal in extreme cases.

Alec heard Wyatt's first word responding to it all. Alec made sure not the look Wyatt's way, though his voice sounded more shocked and surprised than anything. What had Wyatt expected? Whether circumstance or timing. One.. Why would you expect a certain one? Two, every human on this planet who knew Alec would know he'd cave, eventually. Alec put the pin he'd been holding into his pocket, unsure what to say, he sort of waited on Wyatt for more, the worse aching feeling edging at his throat didn't wait. Alec listened through the silence as waited for a response from Wyatt, hearing the deep breath, finally getting an answer, a quiet one but an answer, nonetheless. Asking Alec if he wanted a hug..

There'd be a shake of the head no from Alec as his eyes stayed trained on the ground, watching Wyatt's shadow as it almost came to an eventual nod. Maybe in understanding? Before Alec shook his head again and nodded slowly. The answer without speaking, and the change of it must've confused Wyatt for a moment, but he got to message. Alec watched Wyatt nod again, taking in the answer, a gentler message than the louder voice from earlier. There was a pause from Wyatt before he finally moved to hug Alec, Alec hugged back. The only actual comfort in months, Alec broke, trying to choke the feeling in his throat away. He sniffled within seconds, even letting out a small sob.. An embarrassing scene in the hallway but Alec couldn't have reacted anyway else. When Wyatt moved to pull away Alec pulled away fully as well, wiping his watery eyes quickly, as there was no time for crying.

"Thank you." Alec's voice soft, the theme with their words at the moment seemed to be whispers, Alec wasn't taking it off trend, seeming a bit bashful about the exchange. His eyes would meet Wyatt's only after having taken a few deep breaths and feeling put together enough to look up at him. Knowing Alec wasn't actually going to cry, or at least could pull himself together for a few moments longer. "I really wish I would have said something sooner.. Merlin knows I've needed someone I'm legitimately close too, to speak too." Alec said, his voice ever so soft but not a whisper this time. He'd run a hand through his curly hair making sure to move back any hair that had fallen to his eyes. "It was so awkward, winter break, everyone was so quiet. Even Jackie, Wyatt. And not like the normal kind of quiet in my house either." Alec said. The uncomfortable sort of silence, avoidance of even speaking of the subject if you will, from everyone except Alec's father. He didn't see Jackie cry at all, she seemed unphased even while extremely quiet at the same time, it was odd with the amount of emotions swirling around in Alec.

In this moment Alec decided he'd mention the only Jackie had asked Alec about too Wyatt later. It seems Wyatt had made a Beatles fan back during the summer, and somehow the six-year-old had more convincing arguments than Alec on music terms. Yes, the six-year-old convinced Alec's parents to get her things so she could play music, and asked Alec if he could ask Wyatt for some music suggestions. She was getting too mature, Alec didn't like it, or the fact that he missed watching her grow to be this mature, and in the course of what? Half a school year?

[font=times new roman]"Thank you."

Wyatt didn’t know what to do. What to say to that- to thank you. He looked Alec in the eyes and noticed how glassy they were. He was most certainly holding back tears. It was truly awful seeing Alec like this. Wyatt didn’t exactly enjoy watching someone feel such strong feelings of sadness and not being able to do anything about it.

Hopefully, that hug was comforting to Alec in the slightest. He wanted nothing more than to curl up into a little ball and rock in a corner. His stomach was tossing and turning. Wyatt hadn’t given too many hugs in his 13 years of life and hoped he didn’t hug the Lion wrong… somehow.

"I really wish I would have said something sooner... Merlin knows I've needed someone I'm legitimately close to, to speak to."

Though Wyatt was aware they were close, it felt nice having that feeling validated. He was rather unsure of his relationship with Alec- well because of the two months of silence thing, of course, but also before that. Wyatt felt terrible for ignoring Alec’s warning about that side of the neighborhood and getting himself beat up. Alec was just a hair away from not being able to go back to Hogwarts. And it was Wyatt’s fault.

The Slytherin couldn’t help but question why Alec’s mom had brought him to stay at her house for the summer, though. Especially while her and her husband were having trouble maintaining a healthy relationship.

Those two had a few loud fights over the summer. Wyatt definitely didn’t like hearing people argue loudly about this and that, and it triggered some ugly memories. Most of the arguments occurred at nighttime though, while they thought their kids were sleeping, so Wyatt was able to have his panic attacks without Alec freaking out in the background. He was either sleeping or it was too dark to see Wyatt shaking and breaking out into a cold sweat.

"It was so awkward, winter break, everyone was so quiet. Even Jackie, Wyatt. And not like the normal kind of quiet in my house either."

At the mention of Jackie, Wyatt felt like he began to sink into the stone floor. Poor Jackie… What was she going to do? Depending on how they work out the custody agreement, Jackie might have to go back and forth which is disorienting for any child- and Wyatt didn’t even want to think about what would happen if they split up the family.

“I’m so sorry, Alec,” Wyatt breathed out. “If- if there’s anything I can do… for you or Jackie…”

Wyatt would’ve loved to reach into Alec’s heart and pull out all of his pain, even if it meant he’d have to put the hurt into his own body. He’d get beat up by those stupid muggle boys a million times if it meant Alec would be happy. He just wanted Alec to be happy… Alec deserved to be happy.

“I’m...” Wyatt paused and took in a deep breath. “I’m here now… and forever. If there’s anything you want to get off your chest… if you want to vent-- it doesn’t have to be right now, or tomorrow, or next month, or ever… But if you need to talk, I want you to know I’ll be here.”

Alec watched Wyatt's facial expression carefully, whether Alec could make out the emotions was one thing, but it was harder trying to focus as other thoughts crossed his mind. He wanted to tell Wyatt it still wasn't that big of a deal, but wasn't it? Alec had been extremely affected by the news, the towering amount of emotions hard to comprehend for any normal twelve-year-old, let alone one who was only ever given the chance to sit with them.

The other side of the coin or Alec's thoughts were simply, people got divorced all the time, Alec should've known it was coming too, a flashing neon sign in his face, yet nothing. If only he'd been taught to catch the signs.. And adding on, Alec he wasn't allowed to complain about it, Wyatt had to lose his mom and spend a summer with people he barely knew. He had more of right even now, to be acting the way Alec had and was. The two thoughts had become more conflicting as he'd been given the time to reflect on them. In the end the first had won out, for now. He was too stressed and upset to make any other decisions, than the ones that let his worries go for just a moment. He had enough as the feeling of still wanting to cry etched at his throat, making it sore.

“I’m so sorry, Alec, If- if there’s anything I can do… for you or Jackie…” Wyatt's offer was a relief to the listening ears of Alec, he knew it, still, there was something about having it in words. Besides that, Jackie would be fine, It wasn't allowed not to be the fact. Jackie had Alec, he was going to make sure she was okay. If that truly meant asking Wyatt for music suggestions because Jackie is aware her older brother has no taste in music, so be it. But maybe she could wait on that one for now.

“I’m...” Alec watched Wyatt take a deep breath, it reminded Alec he'd been holding his this whole time. Letting a breath out he took a deep one in, one more drop down the worry meter he supposed. “I’m here now… and forever. If there’s anything you want to get off your chest… if you want to vent-- it doesn’t have to be right now, or tomorrow, or next month, or ever… But if you need to talk, I want you to know I’ll be here.” Alec's breath had finally reached a steady pattern, Alec's face seemed to ease, though he hadn't look too particularly worried earlier if you'd checked his expression, yet he seemed relieved.

As from earlier, nobody had walked away yet. This time there wasn't even a maybe on if they weren't going to. No walking out of the corridor, at least not without the other. Alec was so relieved you could find a small smile formed at Wyatt's words. “Is it stupid that I want a hug from you again?” Alec wasn't sure how to put how much he cared about Wyatt into words, Alec cared an unbelievable amount. There was no right way to explain how miserable he had been not talking to him, and how stupid Alec had been in the first place. He'd been told he shouldn't be talking about family business with others, but if he couldn't talk about it with others then who? Wyatt wasn't an outsider to the Mason's family life, and like earlier Alec had decided, at least Wyatt from now on was allowed to be the exception. Alec had found, an action, like hugs, sometimes they meant more than words.

With no more giant elephant on Alec's chest, he could finally breathe, it felt pretty good. “Neither of us are good with words-” Alec started, though he'd decided Alec was better on paper than he was on the spot. “-but, it's the same. This not relating to anything specific, just you know, if you ever need to talk, I'll be here, even if it can't be in person. Writing to me is always open. And If I do the great injustice that is not talking to you for longer then a week again, take the liberty of walking up to me and confronting me, no matter where I am, or who I'm with.”

Wyatt might've been able to speak to Alec sooner if that had been the case, letting Alec know he wasn't very happy about this, and as close to Alec as he was, deserved to know why. Alec had often been the one the approach Wyatt when they hung out, so it wasn't off on the fact that might've been waiting. Just like he was exactly what Alec asked for company while attending Michael's ball. Alec was certain this time around he'd make sure to do everything he could so that would never happen again.

[font=times new roman]Not a second went by that Wyatt didn’t think about how easy it would be to just collapse under the pressure of having to participate in a serious conversation. He’d never wanted to be knocked out cold so bad. Just the anxiety of not knowing what the hell to say or do… and if you actually say or do something the anxiety of “was that the dumbest thing I’ve ever said or done in my entire life, cause it super-duper feels that way!”

And then there was the whole stress about deciding whether to take some measures to comfort himself because talking about serious things happening in the lives of people you care about is scary, or to bend over backwards to make sure Alec was fine and dandy by the end of the conversation. Wyatt decided that he was feeling bendy today, and concluded he’d go the help Alec route because that boy was in desperate need of some comfort.

This decision meant that Wyatt would have to remove his stoic mask and allow Alec too see his actual emotions on his face. It also meant Wyatt would literally give Alec a piggy back ride to the Gryffindor common room if the Lion even thought about how his legs were getting achy from standing for too long.

Though the Snake knew it was a stupid thought to linger on, he couldn’t help but think that he might’ve had something to do with Alec’s parents divorce. Having another kid in the house couldn’t possibly have made things easier for them. After a few seconds, Wyatt came to the conclusion that it’s possible his stay could’ve accelerated things a little but they were obviously already having trouble before the summer.

Also, this wasn’t a time to linger on Wyatt’s worried, frantic ideas! It was time to say the next sentence and Wyatt was freaking out on the inside, desperate to say the right thing. Usually, he was so good with words. He was able to send most first years running off crying with just a sentence, so why was this so hard?

Wyatt liked to think he was keeping it cool, going with the flow, rolling with the punches, taking it easy (easy breezy), hanging in there, etc. for the most part. He hadn’t started crying yet (more or less) so the conversation was going a lot better than he’d imagined his confrontation with Alec would go.

Still there was one thing they’d hadn’t yet addressed well enough. This whole thing started because Alec didn’t want to tell Wyatt about his parents divorce, so he locked himself away. And Wyatt didn’t blame him. He couldn’t have known what was going on in Alec’s head, since the way his parents split up was different, but he could imagine how awful it must feel.

Wyatt just wished Alec would’ve said something sooner, and it seemed Alec felt the same way.

“No more secrets okay?”

Wyatt had felt that the fact they had this conversation at all was an indication that this rule was something they both understood now, but Wyatt wanted it in words, so it would be official. Imagine if they’d kept more things from each other, how much damage that would do to their friendship.

The most important thing to Wyatt was their friendship.

Another thing they both seemed to need in words, Wyatt was right to ask though, it was Alec, you could never really be sure. “Ruining my fun Wyatt, not even the fun secrets?” Alec asked he really just meant surprises, the words possibly meant to poke at the Slytherin. It wasn't necessarily funny when the secret keeping could have led to some pretty serious damage to their friendship, but Alec wanted to make light of the situation. The least they could do when they look back on this now was remember Alec messing around right on cue, they'd had enough serious talk in this friendship for a lifetime, at least Alec could make some part of it feel fun.

As Alec was realizing his childish nature, when trying to make light of a situation, or honestly anything else, it tends to get him into trouble, even as he was maturing. The childish side of Alec was likely going to always be there, hopefully it didn't get him into too much trouble in the near future.. Didn't everybody need their dose of a smile though? Even just a very small tiny one.

Eventually though Alec would get serious again, taking another deep breath, followed by a nod he'd speak. “Being serious now, no more secrets, I mean it. I have definitely learned my lesson.” Alec had already begun to think about what this meant. No more white lies about stupid things? Was Soatop still allowed to stay in between friends, or did he have to spill that with Wyatt? Maybe it was just the harmful secrets, the ones that would have direct effect on Wyatt, because of whatever reason. Soatop fell into this category. Sometimes he'd had to cancel on Wyatt for meetings, but that didn't matter as much compared to a divorce, right? He was still talking to Wyatt then, was he not?

Alec had concluded pretty quickly, making his own set of rules he decided on the fact that unless it was anything that seriously was directly affecting Wyatt, or even Alec with all his turmoils, they could be kept secret. In other words anything and everything was on the table, except Soatop. Yep.. Maybe also off the table could be stupid things Alec could get away with lying about, for his own sake, to save him from embarrassment.

With that sorted, and them both on what Alec assumed was okay terms, Alec thought it the right time to finally ask. “Reminds me, speaking of Jackie, she wanted me to ask you for some music suggestions. She convinced our dad to get her some stuff for music, and apparently I have no taste in music whatsoever.” Alec would offer an awkward smile Wyatt's way. It seemed his focus on that wouldn't hold for long, as only seconds after asking that question he spoke again. “Oh and, before I forget, remind me to give you the scarf I made. It would be nice to have at least one picture of you in it, even if you never wear it again.”

[font=times new roman]“Ruining my fun Wyatt, not even the fun secrets?”

Wyatt was glad Alec was alleviating the tension with a little joke. The entire serious conversation had been quite draining, and if it wasn’t for Alec’s attempt at humor Wyatt might’ve passed out. He’d been in a rather tricky position. Knowing that it was important and necessary to have the conversation they were having, but actively wanting to run away and cry in a corner somewhere.

Though Wyatt was definitely thankful that Alec had made the joke because it eased the tension in the corridor, he was more thankful that Alec was back to making jokes. Nothing had seemed to change between them, and Wyatt hoped that if anything did, it was for the better.

“Being serious now, no more secrets, I mean it. I have definitely learned my lesson.”

Wyatt chuckled, glad that even though Alec was making jokes, he was taking this seriously, deep down. Of course, Wyatt had thought about the implications of “no more secrets,” but he was starting to think he hadn’t thought about it enough. It seemed that it meant if Alec asked about anything, he’d have to reply honestly. And Wyatt had a feeling not everything would be as simple as Alec asking what his birthday was.

He hoped Alec wouldn’t ask too many questions and seriously considered lying even though they agreed “no more secrets”… but that was rather hypocritical. To say that Alec had to be honest and Wyatt didn’t need to even though they both agreed– and it was Wyatt’s proposition that they’d be honest.

After this night, though, Wyatt didn’t think Alec would start quizzing him on his family life or why that snake kept coming around so he’d be safe for now, at least.

Right as Wyatt had settled on that conclusion, as if on cue, Alec spoke up.

“Reminds me, speaking of Jackie, she wanted me to ask you for some music suggestions. She convinced our dad to get her some stuff for music, and apparently I have no taste in music whatsoever.”

Alec smiled at Wyatt, and the only way Wyatt could describe the feeling of being the target of that smile was… being wrapped in a nice, warm blanket. He was happy they were friends again, that they weren’t different now, and everything was back to plain normal.

Wyatt was happy to hear about Jackie. He’d maybe had the most fun hanging out with Jackie over the summer, sometimes being woken up early in the morning to listen to music and have “tea” parties with her stuffed animals.

“Oh and, before I forget, remind me to give you the scarf I made. It would be nice to have at least one picture of you in it, even if you never wear it again.”

Wyatt smiled. “Of course.”
