And all of a sudden they stopped running. Kneeling down to lace up her shoes, which were definitely not suitable for racing but for dancing instead, she let out a relieved breath. Lindsey was never a bad athlete, learning archery and fencing from a young age, but alright, today she felt a bit uneasy running in these kinds of shoes. Quickly standing up again, she glared the surroundings with a critical yet calm eye. Chocolate brown gaze softened when she saw the familiar corridors and ceilings. Oh Merlin, they were here again.

Almost as soon as they have arrived, Cassie exclaimed in excitement, seeming to celebrate their victory. “Well, Lindsey works.” she answered, with a wide grin, while glancing over to Scarlett. Clearly the “Lettuce” was addressed to the red head, which was…well, quite fun. She had to admit, that this variation of Lettie, was intriguing to use. “No need to call my middle names. I thought…” she still wanted to explain a bit, like why she stated her full name, but Cassie had already run off. Lindsey shrugged a bit. This brunette was definitely a different kind of French, at least different from de Fostoncy, who was simply weak and exclaiming that he was not capable of physical activities all day long. He was bothersome, but she was not. This was simply the differences between them.

She didn’t move. Lindsey had decided that she would continue being curious, and would leave behind, inquiring Paran and Laiks something that she kept wondering during the run. Scarlett seemed to have the same idea, for the young lion already started to inquire the pair - and she grinned to her. As soon as Scarlett had finished her part, she would follow.

“So this is everything? I thought someone said that it was a problem solving little game, but the game went wrong. Although seemingly, except that dumb ritual, nothing’s going wrong. Is there anything else that has yet to come? This sounds dumb, I know, but surely…what’s going on? And you, Paran, why time’s running out? Because Laiks going to be murdered? Or something else that we do not know?”

FOURTH LOCATION
For the three Matagot there was no stopping. These students had attacked what they had been asked to protect. If their owner didn't show up and call them back, they would fight until one party was finally out of the race - and so far it looked better for the black cats. With bared teeth and belligerent snarls they went for Ami and Gregorí.
Matagot 1 attacks Ami
Matagot Auto-Miss (Terrible Presence): 8 → No Auto-Miss
Matagot accuracy: 25
Ami evasion: 13 → hit
Damage: 200 + Ami bleeds: 25 dmg/round
Remaining health: 225/700

Matagot 2 attacks Gregorí
Matagot Auto-Miss (Terrible Presence): 3 → No Auto-Miss
Matagot accuracy: 17
Gregorí evasion: 20 → miss

Matagot 3 attacks Gregorí
Matagot Auto-Miss (Terrible Presence): 6 → No Auto-Miss
Matagot accuracy: 12
Gregorí evasion: 19 → miss
Damage: Gregorí bleeds: 25 dmg/round
Remaining health: 375/600
The first and original Matagot managed once more to dig his sharp claws in @Ami Procoppio’s thighs, adding a new bleeding injury to the first one. Ami would feel a burning pain and warm blood running down her left leg. Maybe she should stop by the hospital wing after ]i]this[/i] dance - the evening went a totally different way than she had expected. She just wanted to get out of here!

Gregori (@Ginevra Tsuchiya) had different plans. While Ami tried to get out of the office, he wanted to get in and get his hands on the chest. And he seemed to have a connection to the furious creatures still - even though he wasn’t the most advanced person in dodging, he knew the creatures well enough by now to anticipate their movements and thus managed to jump out of their reach. But it seemed almost impossible to get into the office...

However, the situation would soon change drastically anyway when another person joined the scene. The Headmaster of Beauxbaton, Eugen Monserrac (@Caradoc Browne), himself came striding down the hallway, which was fortunate for the students. His warm and soft voice echoed through the corridor and seemed to stop the battle just like that. As soon as they spotted and heard their master, the Matagots would let go of the students and instead ran towards the man, meowing and with ears perked up attentively, stroking him around the legs.
They were lucky after all. He not only stopped his cats from fighting but also didn’t punish them. Instead, he provided an explanation as he took his chest to leave with his property. It was a precious item he stored in there. Memories. No use for the children but most valuable to him. As he left, the Matagots would go with him.

Ami was now finally able to leave the office and Gregorí could enter it.
Just as Eugen left, Cassie (@Lucia Fox) would return to the place, informing her fellow students that the riddle had been solved. Maybe she should bring the two fighters to the hospital wing or at least stop the bleeding.
FIRST LOCATION
In the meantime @Elisabeth Erner, @Scarlett Aden and @Lindsey Springhall tried to get to the bottom of what had happened with the original plan and what this was all about. Yes, they had saved Laiks, but what had been the plan of the ritual and who had put Giselle to the Matagot?

Now that Laiks seemed to get his strength back, Scarlett and Lindsey approached Paran. Now, as they faced him, they clearly noticed the similarity to the ghost rider who had given them the quest in the first place.
Scarlett Charisma Roll (DC 10): 16
Lindsey Charisma Roll (DC 10): 13

Now that he had saved his friend, Paran put Laiks in a more comfortable position and whispered that he should rest. Then he wiped the sweat from his face with his wand hand and turned to the two young students. A friendly smile appeared on his face and they could literally see that he was a kind and warm-hearted person. He bowed to them and placed a hand on his heart. Young ladies. Before I answer your questions, I have to thank you for saving my life. Without you finding me and calling my name, it would have been impossible for me to free myself and thus save Laiks.” He gave them a ture smile and looked back at his friend before turning to Scarlett and Lindsey again. Then he sighed and shook his head. ”You were late. I was already worried you wouldn’t make it. Even though you are right and it was all planned, the people in the ritual would have sacrificed me anyway - so this was close… Maybe my sister can bring some light to these events in a bit.” he waved to Giselle and frowned as he looked back at Scarlett. ”I see, you already know it was about having a challenge as a team. Gaiz and my sister are part of my story. To find me you had to walk a part of my life - of something that had happened exactly 200 years ago. Laiks was supposed to save me from the ritual when we were still alive. They needed a pure soul for some dark magic.” he shivered. ”Hopefully we will never find out what would have happened if they had succeeded. Anyway, Gaiz helped them today and not only almost killed Laiks but also made sure they had a chance to take me. And to find me you had to talk to these people connected to me. You see, it’s about fully understanding a person before judging and thus helping each other. And you helped my little family. Thank you so much. Giselle, what happened?”

Although Lindsey had questioned Laiks and Paran, Giselle would provide the two Hufflepuff girls with an answer.
Elisabeth Charisma Roll (DC 10+2 (Lovely Creature)): 25
She had already admitted that something had gone wrong. But what was it? And why? Giselle seemed to be more relieved now that her beloved brother and husband were safe. ”I - I don’t know. Just before the ball started a… child showed up and took me. She wouldn’t answer my questions. She just carried me to the office, stayed away from the chest and put me there. So the Matagot was not aggressive... Oh Merlin, it was so close....”

At this moment the three girls would notice a movement near the corner. A young pale girl, wearing her Hogwarts uniform entered the scene, looking at her shoes, visibly ashamed and slightly shaking. ”I- that was me.” She looked up at Lindsey, Scarlett and Elisbath, tearing up and wrapping her arms around her own body. ”I took you, Miss Giselle. I am so sorry. I didn’t know anyone would get hurt or actually be in danger because of that! I swear! It’s just… all of my friends went to the ball and no one wanted to take me… and then I heard the other students talking to the paintings, planning this hunt… And I thought I could mess around a little bit, making it harder by hiding one of the paintings at the Matagot. I am so sorry.” She blushed and shook her head. ”Thank you for saving them. Otherwise this would all be my fault now.” And so the riddle was solved after all. The hunt had been sabotaged by a little girl who had felt excluded by her friends, causing so much trouble. A true Hogwarts student.

SUMMARY
Reducio
  • A ghost appeared in the Ballroom, proclaiming warnings of doom and tragedy, and challenged students to solve the mystery. He pointed to a silvery ghost cat as the guide, who at this point, has been named Star.
  • Several students noticed odd things about the ghost:
    • Dmitri Jones and Kara Capricorn shared that they noticed a crest on his robes that was later identified as stemming from the St. Mungo’s Hospital.
    • Howard White noticed the Hufflepuff crest on his robes, but only shared this with Falentra Black, somewhat separate from the main group.
    • Romeo Marchonné remembered odd silver stains on the ghost’s sleeves and told his companions about them… blood, maybe?
  • The ghost cat led you to a painting, depicting a man who obviously had been attacked and was fighting for his life - but healing and repairing proved fruitless. Could anyone save him?
  • Several students noticed odd things about the painting:
    • Anastasia Beckett, Andrew Vance and Dmitri Jones pointed out an inscription below the painting: “Paran Taja saves Laiks Denbora”. Who was the man in the painting? Why was no one saving him?
    • Dmitri Jones also noticed that the painting composition seemed somehow unbalanced, as did Sapphire Riddle. Maybe something was missing here!
    • Andrew Vance pointed out a streak of blood on the floor of the painting. Maybe there had been a struggle? Had someone been dragged away - but by who, or what?
    • Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood made anyone listening aware of a scrap of fabric on the floor in the painting, red in colour, and depicting a lion. Odd.
    • Both Soren Silverwood and Callista Lovis had the idea to talk to nearby portraits to find out what had happened here. Both were pointed towards a painting that was supposed to be near the Gryffindor Common Room.
  • The Gryffindor Common Room? Martyna Romero took the lead and ran off in this direction. It appeared that Star agreed with this, as the cat followed Tina’s departing steps. Star led the party to a painting near the realm of the Brave.
  • There were several things that the students found out from this second painting:
    • The man depicted in it was called Gaiz Toa.
    • It didn’t take much prodding for him to admit his intense dislike for Paran Taja, that damn goody-two-shoes who always came running when someone called his name, and Laiks Denbora, who had apparently stolen his girl. Yes, obviously Denbora deserved to be stabbed for that - a deed Toa seemed to be rather proud of. The painting of the girl, Giselle could be found in the next corridor over.
  • Some yelling and fighting ensued when Robert Toukmond decided to set the painting on fire but it was quickly extinguished, only a corner of it burnt. Needless to say, Gaiz Toa was not pleased.
  • But Martyna Romero, again, had picked out a new location from the painting’s ranting, and set off to find the painting of his lost lady-love, Giselle, Star in tow.
  • The painting, however, was gone, an odd note in its place. It took some brainstorming, but finally, the group figured out the meaning behind the obscure hints: It directed them to the Caretaker’s Office. But what would they find there?
  • As soon as they managed to open the door, a black cat with blue eyes, identified as a Matagot stepped out and blocked the door.
  • After being provoked by Gaiz the Matagot attacked the students, but the combined effort of some students and the arrival of a strange girl managed to calm it down.
  • Ami managed to get into the office. Her Wand-Lighting Charm showed a chest with a Beauxbatons crest on the desk, and a painting next to a shelf, showing a girl who was desperately calling for help.
  • The girl in the painting was the missing Giselle. She was confused that she was taken, but she also knew how to find Paran. He had been taken to some painting next to the Potions classroom. She also revealed that this had been meant as an activity, an event to teach about teamwork and riddle solving… but someone was sabotaging it. An unexpected danger?
  • Scarlett Aden and Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin headed down to the Potions classroom first. There seemed to be some ritual going on… was Paran about to be sacrificed?
  • Cassie called Paran Taja and the man in the painting managed to free himself. He ran to the next painting. Maybe he was on his way to save Laiks?
  • Paran Taja returned to his painting and saved Laiks! Congrats!
  • The Hunt was sabotaged by a first-year who felt excluded by her friends and wanted to do a prank as revenge

OCTOBER 16TH
@Lucia Fox as Cassie @Lindsey Springhall @Elisabeth Erner

So the events in the portraits had actually happened in real life? Fascinating. She listened to Paran speak, intently nodding along. So Giselle was Paran's sister then! And the events occurred a whole two hundred years ago, in...1820? Scarlett was pretty sure that was it. And the creepy people needed to sacrifice the pure soul that was Paran for their Dark Magic ritual. Scarlett's cheeks reddened as Paran thanked them. "Oh, it was nothing really," said Scarlett, accepting the gratitude, but waving it off at the same time. "Glad to see you're safe and your family re-united or what you said."

Paran then turned to ask Giselle - his sister, it had been revealed - what had happened when the plan messed up. She told them about a girl who had taken her there. Suddenly, a small little voice interrupted. It was a pale, first-year girl who was shaking and seeming to be on the verge of tears. She told them how she felt excluded and how no one wanted to take her, so she had messed around and messed up by 'sabotaging' the hunt. Hm. Scarlett felt an inkling of pity for the girl - after all, without her, they wouldn't have gone on this wonderfully 'wrong' adventure, one that didn't go to plan, which was exactly why it was so fun.

"Don't worry," said Scarlett, mustering a smile for the kid. "Mistakes happen - I would know." She snickered, turning to the portraits. "Good luck," she said, as a bid goodbye. Then she spun to Lindsey and the other girl. She threw her arms around Lindsey and the two girls hugged before she shook the Asian girl's hand. "G'night guys! This has been so fun, but I'm-" A yawn for effect. "-exhausted."

She traipsed to where Cassie and everyone else were, hugging Cassie as well. "Whoo - okay - that was so fun," she said, grinning at her friend. "I'm gonna head off now - night everyone!"

And then she left. Simple as that.

At this point, Gregorí was awfully ashamed. So all this time he had been... trying to violate other's privacy. It turned out that what was kept inside the mysterious chest had nothing to do with tonight's game - it was the greatest treasure of the aging Beauxbatons headmaster, perhaps his diary or other mementos like photographs and souvenirs. "I'm sorry, Sir," the Ilvermony boy tried to apologize, hoping that Headmaster Monserrac could hear his voice.

After that, he turned to the Chesire Cat-pupil, the one who had been trying to stop him and a fourth-year to open or destroy the chest. It did not matter anymore how she knew what was inside, what mattered was that Gregorí owed her an apology for all these misunderstanding. "I'm sorry for accusing you, and for trying to attack," he said sincerely, even though his face was terribly hot. If he had skin of lighter color, definitely it would have turned as red as a lobster.

Although he himself was bleeding, Gregorí tried to approach the fourth-year who had been trapped inside the caretaker's office for quite some time - she must be in a worse condition than him since she had been struggling with the Matagots for a longer time, plus he seemed to be luckier in avoiding their claws tonight. Chances are she preferred to be left alone, but still, maybe she actually wanted some help. Therefore, the Mexican walked closer to the Hufflepuff beater, asking, "Would you like some help?"

There was someone in the corner of his eye, someone who was just coming. Was it Elisabeth? Oh, no, it was not her - it was the French pupil who had been first attacked by the original Matagot. He wondered what she was doing here - did she accidentally leave something behind, or was there another clue here?

She folded her arms with a warm smile on her face and listened to Paran. The smile grew into a wide grin when Paran explained the whole things. She put her beech wand back to her pocket carefully, and made a gesture to them. “Well, like what Scarlett had said, it’s good to see you guys safe.” she grinned, while throwing some curls to the back. “And no need to say thanks really, for we’ve had fun ourselves.”

Have fun? Probably, for she had truly enjoyed it. This was the very first school dance she had attended, and although Paran broke in even before she met her date properly, Lindsey had decided that it was good after all. No embarrassing dances, at least. She still remembered how her heart raced when Wyatt had invited her…speaking of Wyatt, hopefully he was back in his own common room safely now. Lindsey felt a bit bad for leaving him behind when she rushed off to the Caretaker’s office, not able to check if he had followed or not. But though…since he never caught up with the group, it’s very likely that he had returned after losing touch with her and the rest of curious students. Maybe she’d write a short note to him and explain everything happened after they parted, or meet up with him in the castle sometime…which, she was quite sure, that he would be willing to hear.

Her chocolate brown eyes gazed on the floor and became lost in the thought of that black-eyed Slytherin boy she was so interested in, before being dragged back to the conversation again by Giselle and Scarlett. “Ah, yes, it was - yeah, it was okay.” spending a couple of seconds to realize what had happened, she reassured the first year girl along with the young lion. Alright, she wasn’t really a prankster herself and disliked pranks, but maybe she had to give this poor girl a chance. She was fortunate having a date herself, but for those that wasn’t that fortunate…well, sensibility overcame sense yet again.

Hugging Scarlett tight, Lindsey grinned. “Yeah, it had been fun.” she answered thoughtfully. “G’night. Have a good sleep, Scarlett!” the last few words were called out loudly, since the red head had already started to leave. “Elisabeth, right? Fancy seeing you here.” she then turned to the younger girl, whom she had met approximately a month ago before boarding the Hogwarts Express. “Wish you a good night too!” waving at Elisabeth, Lindsey jumped a few paces towards the staircases, and disappeared soon down to the badger’s den.

Time to go to bed. She truly needed a good sleep.
