Over-Thanking it
The tone of Flash's remark caused him to be flooded with relief at the same time as dread. he had only heard that drained tone once from the boy, and it was not a pretty sight. However, he did not have to worry about his journal going aflame unless it was by his own hands- he truly needed to learn if there was a fire protection charm. It did mean he had exhausted Flash though, which was something Ross could scratch off the bucket list.
Truth be told, he hardly noticed his now far more carefree attitude. Ever since he had begun lashing out at people, it was as if other people's lash outs at him had completely disappeared in his mind. It was a newfound confidence he was having no time adjusting to, or perhaps it was just plain ignorance. Either way, it made life far easier and he was not complaining. After years at cowering at the slightest threat, he had now made friends with the people who had been rude to him without acting as if they were a mystery. Only people who had known Ross before his second year would notice the change, but it was a drastic one.
As Flash began talking, Ross would be lying to say it was entirely interesting. He had hoped he would catch him off guard, maybe point out how entirely boring his note was in the process. As the exhaustion of focusing on a task for more than an hour got to him, Ross laid his arms on the table and slumped down to join them. He returned the look Flash had given him, though it was clear to see he was bored. He closed his eyes until he was certain he had finished speaking, only opening them when silence rang throughout the room once more.
"I dunno, I'd say I'd like a thank you note for doin' all my homework." he mumbled.
As he heard Flash begin to collect his things, Ross felt relief and stress fill his gut once more. He glanced up, only to notice he had left parchment and ink. It had caught him so off guard he had almost not registered what Flash had said.
Almost.
"Thank you for the candy.. thank you for the candy.. thank you for the candy-" he mumbled erratically. He remained dead silent for a moment before pushing himself up with his arms. "FLASH YOU'RE AS SMART AS A WORM!" he exclaimed, ignoring the rules of the library. He grasped onto Flash's quill. flipping to another page of parchment. Hastily, he dipped it in ink and scribbled down the words like a maniac would.
Thank you for the candy!
- Ross and Flash
An overexcited grin crossed his face as he stared at his masterpiece. A work of literature Shakespeare himself would cower at. It had everything! A noun, a... actually, Ross had not remembered much from his school literature experience anyways. Either way, he was convinced it had everything a writer could ever need. It was perfect.
And it only took him an hour to get there.
