Quidditch Game

Finally! Aaron snatched the quaffle from the air, beating out the one person on Slytherin's team reaching for it (Tyranni). He vaguely noticed that Serena and Heinrich were not in position, or if they were then they were a bit slow on the draw, but he was soon rocketing down the pitch focused on the Slytherin goals.@Atlas Reid, @Tyranni Whitethorn, @Koko Riddle, @Ami Procoppio
There was no open goal this time, and instead their keeper was there - Koko Riddle, an upperclassmen. Aaron didn't know much about her, aside from the fact that she had been Slytherin's keeper for a while - since last year, when he recalled seeing her in the school matches he attended. As he threw the quaffle with all his might, Koko stretched into a familiar pattern - a starfish. He had practiced that maneuver quite a bit with Willow back when she was on the team, so it was a familiar sight. He was impressed by the skill she displayed, and understood why his shot was blocked. It didn't make it less frustrating, though. After all his hours of practice, he had still yet to make a goal this game!
Aaron frowned slightly, but was back to the middle of the pitch quickly and ready for the next quaffle release. From what he could tell (from the fact that no one had shouted about it yet), the snitch had not yet been seen, so they still had a long game ahead. They needed to focus on pulling ahead in scoring, and this was no time to be feeling sorry for himself. He already felt bad for his feeling of jealousy towards Atlas moments ago, and so when she snatched the quaffle this round again he was much less aware of the feeling. Instead, he cheered her on and flew near her to make sure the quaffle wasn't dropped. She scored! Excellent!
Aaron's dark eyes fell to the benches, where Ami Procoppio was. She had replaced him as co-captain this year, after he had stepped down from the position. She was a good motivator, and although he couldn't hear what she was shouting, he placed a hand to his forehead and flicked towards her, saluting her. Making it clear his head was in the game and he would not let the team down.
Back to the game - Atlas got the quaffle once more. This time, though, her goal was blocked by Koko. But it didn't matter too much. They were gaining momentum. Hufflepuff was in the lead, and Aaron was determined to help keep them there. Whether it be by supporting his teammates or by scoring the goals himself, either way he wanted Hufflepuff to come out on top. He had to keep telling himself Quidditch was not a one-man game. Even though he had practiced so hard and for so long in the last couple months, it was a team effort. They would win as a team! They were undefeated and would remain that way!

Dan still hadn't found the snitch. Thora was going to have to take another penalty lap. Can they just catch a break for once?! Their team was good, but Hufflepuff had a couple of players that were hard to take out and work around. Plus with the seeker constantly being defended, it added another challenge. Thankfully Erin was back, at least for now. She somehow this season had managed to survive longer than one round as per the typical situation. The others knew she was a threat. Thank the gods she was on their team, even if she was a bit--well odd.

Thora had returned to the game with a vengeance, fueled by sheer irritation at her botched blatch. Perhaps it could be chalked up to nerves, anxiety only being natural in a first game, or the defending Hufflepuff being exceptionally good at dodging, but she knew better. Her focus had been off, her aim had been off - she simply hadn't performed as she ought to. But now, fresh from a penalty lap, a new opportunity stood before her, and she reentered the thick of the action, eager to seize it.
She couldn't help but feel her confidence waver, though, as she was told to blatch yet again. Not only did she admittedly have little experience with the move, but her previously failure at it had her doubting whether she'd actually be able to pull it off. Though the chaser slowed, scanning the sky for the Hufflepuff seeker, it was with a small sigh of reluctance and more hesitation than before.
Having picked Emrys out from the mass of colorful robes, she set off yet again, feeling awfully conspicuous. Here she was, a chaser, flying anywhere but the Quaffle, and towards the same player for the second time in a row, nonetheless. No doubt anyone tracking her would already have guessed at her motive, Thora flying in as clear a path as she was - and it seemed this was true for the opponents as well, the seeker's defender materializing yet again in time to throw her off course and block the attempt.
She shouldn't have been surprised, honestly; how could she have assumed the badgers would've let their precious seeker go unprotected, especially when they'd posted a guard on him right from the match's commencement? But there was no time to change strategy, no time to do anything but to continue flying and hope she'd eliminate the defender instead. Scarcely daring to breathe, she shot forward, focus still off-kilter by her apparent incapability to perform a blatch. She braced for impact, but when she was met with nothing but thin air, horror began to pool in the pit of her stomach, breath hitching in her throat.
Did that- had she actually just missed again?
Disgusted by herself, Thora made her way to the pitch's perimeter automatically, keen to take her penalty lap as quickly as possible. She cringed as her name was shouted yet again, accompanied by the shrill blast of the whistle; as if her failure hadn't been enough, it'd just been broadcasted to the entire mass of spectators. Fury colored her cheeks an unhealthy crimson, eyes sparking dangerously. It was inevitable, she knew, having attempted a foul, but she couldn't help but be irked that the crowd would be aware of every mistake she made, if they looked long enough to see her target and his defender still atop their brooms.
Failure wasn't really an option, up here, and yet she'd just completely messed up twice in a row. As she cast her gaze downwards, not wanting to see the teammates she'd failed, she couldn't help but wonder - did she really belong here, one of Slytherin's first-string chasers?
Action || As strategized
Just as a note as these things seem to be unclear sometimes, Thora's anger is not mine at all. Thanks for a great game so far, everyone! :-)

Both Slytherin and Hufflepuff now had players that were doubled up on brooms, with the former likewise having players exchanging positions running laps around the pitch in a sort of relay. At the same time, both teams seemed to be recognizing the importance of ensuring their seekers stayed aloft, each dedicating a beater to hover in protection. In this moment, a good ways into the game, a bit of a lull seemed to blanket the pitch as both teams seemed to take an invisible cue that this would be a good opportunity to return to ground zero. Nico—carrying Cassandra—and Serena—carrying Heinrich—both seemed to take a sharp decline towards the ground almost simultaneously to allow their teammates to retrieve their brooms and jump independently back into the action.
Nowhere was this sudden calm felt more keenly than in the center of the pitch, where Slytherin seemed to have entirely abandoned—for the moment—any attempts to go for the quaffle. Atlas, who continued to wander far from her own goalposts in favour of the excitement of the skirmishing, and Aaron were thus free to volley for the ball between themselves just as they had for a number of tosses prior. It seemed Slytherin's quaffle limelight was limited to the start. Hufflepuff continued to dominate quaffle possession this game.
Of course that didn't mean that Slytherin had entirely forfeited points to the badgers. Koko yet remained firmly within the boundaries of her rings, bound to protect them. Aaron would be the first to speed towards her during this brief lull. Focused, and clearly bent on making his own presence known, he showed no sign of fear. The same could not be said for Koko, however. Something, somewhere on the battlefield would tug at her sense, washing her over with a passing sense of unease. It lasted only a short while, but it was enough. The momentary distraction was all that Aaron would need to slip that quaffle past the girl's defenses.
"Ten points for Hufflepuff!" voiced the announcer in the fading echo of the gong.
Moments later, Aaron would find possession yet again. And again, he would race down the pitch to spearhead the charge alongside Atlas towards the Slytherin goals. Once again, he would find Koko waiting for him in excellent starfish and stick formation. This time, she was ready. Whatever it was that had come over her earlier, either it had subsided, or she had overcome it of her own volition. Regardless, her unimpeachable focus allowed her to easily block the incoming quaffle, saving Slytherin temporarily from a widening gap of points.
The next time Koko found a badger flying towards her, it would be Atlas rather than Aaron. This trend of sending the Keepers in with the chasers seemed to be becoming more popular, and once again the two Keepers would face off in a most unconventional of ways. Once again, Koko adopted the form of starfish and stick while Atlas wound up for her shot. The latter proved to be the better in this moment. A gong echoed across the pitch to sound a spectacularly thrown shot by the Hufflepuff keeper.
"Ten points for Hufflepuff yet again!" confirmed the announcer shortly thereafter.

The gong of the goal post scores wasn't the only noise the badgers would be making, however. For one so large, Quinn was making his presence felt on the pitch in a rather literal sense. The sharp crack of his bat upon the bludgers that he always managed to secure was enough to send an echoing reverberation through players and spectators alike. And once again, the bludger sailed like a canon towards the Slytherin captain and seeker, Dan. And once again, the bludger would be denied its intended target.
Fresh from her penalty lap around the pitch, Erin flew in to intercept the bludger's path. Her presence had been enough to save her captain, the bludger having veered slightly from its initial path in favour of the blonde. Perhaps some might have hoped that she'd be able to redirect it back towards the half-giant just as Lindsey had towards Cassandra. Whether because Erin had missed, lacked the strength to redirect the forceful blow, or simply hadn't swung her bat in an attempt, however, no such redirection would occur. On the other hand, neither would she herself feel that sickening crunch. Her skills on the broom were put on full display as she evaded the attack herself.
Meanwhile, Lindsey would be provided a moment's respite. With Erin's attention directed towards protecting her captain, and Cassandra racing astride Nico's broom in order to retrieve their own, the lull would afford Lindsey a moment of respite.

The game was ramping up and despite the match still being in its relative early phases, patiences were growing thin. Dan, in particular, expressed his obvious frustration with the ambiguous proclamation to his team to "just take them down already!" But nobody ever got anywhere by being highstrung with impatience. Or maybe they did? Hufflepuff still seemed to have it out for the Slytherin seeker, yet another crack of a bat sending a bludger rocketing towards him. Erin had faithfully saved Dan from having to interrupt his hunt for the wily little snitch to escape the bludger's path, but the target was still firmly painted on his back. Nevertheless, the otherwise relative lull of the game left both both seekers to their seeking unscathed and uninterrupted.
Only one would gain the benefit of the moment. Perhaps this was one of those unfortunate occasions where too much defense proved to be counter-productive. Lindsey still hovered nearby to Ethen, dogging his broom tail twigs to ensure she was able to intervene on a bludger should one come towards the hufflepuff seeker. None did, however. Instead, perhaps it might have been the case that she happened to block line of sight for him to spot the snitch at a most inopportune moment. Or maybe he was just unlucky and looking in the wrong spot. Regardless, Ethen still would not spot the snitch.
Dan, on the other hand, would finally catch that break that he was so looking for. Eyes peeled around the pitch for the blasted little ball of silver and gold, he would spot it. Unquestionably. Undeniably. Whizzing around near the base of the Hufflepuff goalposts, the little metallic orb seemed to be taking a hint from the calm period of the game to go on a bit of a hiatus from its usual chaotic wanderings. In lazy figure eights, it orbited the poles. And Dan had noticed. After two games of being denied satisfaction in his position, Dan had finally seen the snitch.

Like an insect incessantly buzzing in his ear no matter how often he squat it away, Percival's voice continued to chime up with irrelevant additions to a nonexistant argument. Where at first Flash thought it might have been with full intention to put him on edge, he now had a new suspicion... that Percival was whining to him about his failed relationship. He was, in fact, a captive audience, in that he couldn't leave.
He wouldn't stop tracking the game, however, as things were starting to look a bit better. Now, their enitre team would be back, no more penalty laps or people on other brooms. They had attempted an explosive first turn which backfired, but without losing anyone, they were back to a full team, despite the bruises. Hufflepuff had more goals, and seemed to have been in the advantage for most of the game (from what he could tell), but when Quinn's bludger missed Miss Erin, there was a glimmer of hope that they wouldn't be constantly fighting from behind.
Nearly having tuned out Percival's nagging at that point, Flash debated on whether he should say anything at all, or just ignore him. This sense of teamwork he wanted to sow would be difficult. It might even be easier just to convince Percival to leave the team than to work alongside him, but that seemed more unsportmanlike for sure. He'd like to hide the Quidditch sign-ups from his entire dorm, if possible, but that was completely unrealistic. He would have to just deal with it.
"What a sad life you lead." Would be his response.

One thing that Cash hated during this whole match was keeping their team mate away doing what they supposed be doing. If only Nico did not catch them when they free falling from their broom, Nico could inserted herself for the scrimmage to attempted some Quaffle grabbing.
But on the other hand, the green eyes was glad that Nico managed to catch them before they hit the cold ground. It means the second year still eligible to play. After the pale skin girl catch Cash, Nico had apologized to Cash of what Quinn done to them.
Nico saying something give the part-Giant an earful. Cash nodded their head at Nico's statement. "That would be a great idea"Wheezed out the purple haired when Nico suggested a little visit to the Hospital Wing. Their ribs still hurt but the pain in time subside bit by bit.
For a moment, both of the Slytherin players flying in the air. Next thing Cash know, they back to their broom and ready to get back in action. They gripped the shaft of the school broom issue with their last strength. Still wobbly but Cash managed to keep their balance on the broom and up they go.
Cash really needed to have their own broom. Maybe next year I could have my own they thought to themselves. A gong one after another echoed throughout the pitch, indicated that the Badgers managed not only once but twice securing their point but Cash paid not mind into it.
They needed to hold a little bit longer and help their team mate to win the game. If someone from the opposing team hit the bludger and it directed to them, Cash know they were done for as their ragged breath indicated they were not in their best shape.
But Cash will try their bestest to stay a bit longer for the sake of their team mate, to bring pride for their house and to secure the win.

Howard had begun to pace back and forth, his hands holding tightly to his broom. This round felt like the tipping point in where one team would finally get in position to gain the advantage. Fallen players were now returned to their brooms on both sides and the strategies were bound to intensify. His eyes would eventually drift back to Atlas as he watched and studied her formations. Not only had she proved herself to be a good goal tender, but she now continued to show her skill as a goal scorer. He would shout his encouragement as both she and Aaron put up points for team Hufflepuff. Howard would make a mental note to keep up on his chaser skills if he was ever needed to replace her. The crack of the beaters bat would draw his eye toward his co-captain just in time to see the bludger zoom right past its intended target. Hopefully it wouldn't be the miss that gave Slytherin the advantage, but he knew his team well and they were sure to redouble their efforts for the next round.

Broom: Twigger 90 - In the role of Keeper, if the Keeper effectively blocks an attempt to score rather than obtain possession of the quaffle they can kick the quaffle at the user who attempted to score. This must be declared at the time actions are submitted. This would have damage like a bludger using an accuracy roll to hit and the user's strength score to determine the amount of damage done. If the quaffle hits or misses the target, a quafflegrab the next round would be necessary to determine which team has possession of the quaffle again.

Percival frowned as the other boy continued to ignore him. This little argument of theirs was going nowhere. He wondered if the reason for the other's refusal to speak was because he had guessed right. That Holmwood and Winters were truly together. His mother would often say that it was still considered lying if you did not speak up. He wondered if the other was thinking up an excuse. Percival's gaze rested on the game watching the game with little interest.
His mind was filled with worsening thoughts about the brown-haired boy next to him. The boy truly hadn't expected the other's last words. His eyes widened and his mouth opened slightly in shock. Before, his face screwed up in anger. "Like your any better girlfriend stealer." he snapped. Percival took the tip of his broom and poked the boy hard in the shoulder.

Aspen continued to cheer for her team as they continued to do well. The first year may have been wearing the yellow and black for months now, but until today, until this game, she has never felt any pride in the colors- but today she feels that pride bursting through her with each score her team makes.

Quidditch Game
Erin would see Dan Palmer in line for a bludger attack, fresh from a penalty lap Erin would rush in the direction of the future assault. "Palmer, hang on!" Erin bellowed with all the feminine grace of a rhinoceros on steroids and rammed into Dan's side. The goal simple, divert the President Seeker from the bullet's bluder's path. She would try to spin around on her broom, winging the broom tightly gripped between her legs around in mid flight. Only her left hand on the bat, her right gripping the broomshaft. She would wildly swing her bat, attempt to punish the beast that hurled that metallic sphere in her teammates direction but a swing and a miss! She would lean back as the bludger shot on past her, arching her back as she did so. The bludger would almost graze her crown.
She would whirl around, partially surprised that she even survived. Dan was already flying off. Had he found the golden snitch? She would look back at Quinn, it was likely he would try once again. She tightened her grip on her bat anxiously. She did not fear the darkness, she found the darkness to be a promise. A hope for respite from the gnawing and the ache. From the wicked paranoia that addled her sanity and gave her an end, like a curtain finally being drawn.
She took a breath and spun her bat in her free hand. Chances were, more bludgers would come. Battered, tired and bruised, she was used to taking a beating. It was unlikely they could take what they dish.
