The Subtleties of Mischief

So long as they did harmless pranks, Henry’s mum wasn’t too angry about them. She believed in the punishment fitting the crime. They get glitter everywhere? They have to clean the glitter up. They break dishes? They save up some money to buy new ones. There were a few times where the punishment got pretty bad, but it was uncommon that their punishment be unrelated to their crime. Their dad just did what their mum said when it came to consequences.
Henry was glad K seemed to be enjoying their conversation, though he thought something looked off for a moment. It vanished almost as quickly as it had appeared, and Henry didn’t mention it. “Oh yeah, Daniel and Diana have been making trouble since they could grab things. They roped me in when I understood what they were saying.” Henry laughed, thinking back to when they started their troublesome trio work. “Yeah, though I bet mum is glad to have another weight lifted off.” Henry responded, taking a moment before realizing what that might have sounded like. “Not that she doesn’t love me, but she’s got her hands full with the lot of us. I dunno if I’ve mentioned, but I have six older siblings.” Sometimes his big family scared people, other times it was just a surprise. There were the rare people who were not surprised, based on the way Henry was.
The sound of the prank with the starts was sounding awesome. They were harmless, barely a small tap when thrown, so they couldn’t make anyone too angry. “Yeah. I mean, once you know how to make them, they don’t take much thought to make, so it’s kind of just something I do when I’m bored.” Which was why he had as many as he did. He was bored frequently, usually in the middle of doing homework. He’d absently tear a strip of paper and start folding a star.
Henry was a little confused as to why K’s parents would punish him strictly. He was used to the way his parents did things, so it was odd when he learned that other parents did things differently. “Really? My parents would only punish us harshly if we hurt ourselves or others or could have hurt someone.” There had been the occasional moment when that had happened, which meant they learned their lesson pretty quickly. There were still times when they slipped up, but it took a lot of thinking to come up with all possible ways a prank could go. Sometimes they missed a few of the more harmful ones out of a strong desire to do the prank. “That’s a good question,” Henry replied, knowing he wouldn’t be able to come up with any way to get the slime.

Even if Henry enjoyed mischief that doesn't mean he always did it. For the majority of his childhood the boy stayed away from mischief especially after his mum died since his father seemed to get pretty angry whenever him or his twin pulled a prank or something however now at Hogwarts the boy wanted to cause all the mischief that he could and doing them with Henry Llewellyn sounded even better. Especially if they got in trouble,
imagine a professor just shouting Henry then them going 'which one' or if they had a rather cool nickname like Henry Squared or something like that.
Henry couldn't help but crack a laugh at mention of Henry Llewellyn's siblings roping him into pranks but his smile sort of diminished when he heard his next comment and a wave of sadness hit the twelve year old as he opened his mouth but zero words came out so he quickly closed it.
However at his next comment, Henry's smile would return as he spoke" 6 older siblings? That's a lot, do you have any younger siblings?" a short pause before he continued, " how is it having a large family? Mine is sort of small with my older brother, twin, father, and me so," a smile on the boy's face as he wondered what it was like to have a large family like Henry Llewellyn.
However as the conversation went on and Henry started to regret saying anything about his father acting strict on mischief making as he heard his friends comment.
A smile still on the boy's lips as he turned a bit to stare at his orange feline; Loki in his leather jacket as he spoke" my father was raised differently so he can be a bit strict at times," feeling awkward but glad when the topic changed as Henry looked over at Henry Llewellyn with a smile before speaking"maybe we could offer to help clean up his classroom or the creatures then we can swipe some?"

The Subtleties of Mischief

Mischief making had been a huge part of Henry’s life. Sure, he still played regular games with friends and did schoolwork, but making mischief was one of his hobbies. There were times when he didn’t really feel like making mischief, but those weren’t very often. When his mind got distracted, he needed something to do. Often, making mischief was the solution. There were times when his attempts to distract himself unintentionally resulted in mischief.
Even after the seeing the expression on K’s face after his comment about his mum, Henry still didn’t pick up that something was off. He did wonder if K wanted to say something, but that curiosity vanished as K asked about younger siblings. It would be super interesting to have a younger sibling, but his parents were done when he was born.
“Nope, I’m the youngest. Crazy, huh? Six older siblings and I’m the only wizard.” Henry chuckled, thinking about the likelihood of that happening. Sure, it was unlikely that there be more than one wizard in his family, with the way muggle-born magic worked, but it was still crazy. “It’s pretty chaotic. Recently it’s been a lot calmer, since both my oldest siblings started university, but it’s always been kind of messy.” Henry recalled past Christmases, the floor hidden in a thick layer of wrapping paper. “Wow, that’s small. There are nine people in my family if you count me, so four is so little. What’s that like?” He figured he’d ask, since K had first.
“I guess that’s true, people are raised differently,” Henry muttered, thinking about his grandparents, who did things weirdly compared to his parents. Sometimes they got into arguments over how things should run, but it was never long. The conversation changed to the flobberworm slime again and Henry grinned at K’s suggestion. “That’s a great idea!”

Henry smiled toward red, as his eyes flashed with happiness and the occasion thoughts of final being able to cause mischief or have fun now that he was within Hogwarts since the twelve year old didn't have to worry about being mature or responsible. He didn't need to grow up and forget to be a child, at Hogwarts the boy finally got his chance to be a child. To have fun. Get into trouble. Live a little.
Henry heard his friend speak and couldn't help a smile and a little laugh as spoke" 6 older siblings? That must be difficult at times," smiling a bit at Henry Llewellyn knowing the pressure from one older sibling can bring but 6... that was something he couldn't imagine as the boy continued" your just lucky probably, that your magical," offering his friend a simple smile.
Henry listened to red talk about his older siblings and nodded a bit before replying" so two of your siblings are in university and the other four?" Henry couldn't help but be curious since he considered Henry Llewellyn as a close friend and wanted to know more about him.
"9 is pretty hard to imagine to but it must be nice or fun at time right?" Henry asked always wondering if he would have younger siblings or a larger family if his mother was still alive before answering Henry Llewellyn's question" well a bit disconnected, my father is almost always at the ministry due to his work and my twin sister prefers to be alone or out of the house somewhere when she doesn't cause mischief, " giving his friend a small smile while pausing got a moment before continuing" and my older brother and I are really close but he just move out to finish his studies at auror training, it's sort of like university."
Henry then nodded to his friends comment about being raised differently but didn't comment since he couldn't bring himself to however his next comment Henry would smile as he spoke" thanks, hopefully we can convinced him through since either of us are 3rd years yet."

Henry laughed a little at K’s words. “Yeah, mum’s got her hands full a lot of the time. With my oldest siblings out and me here, though, it’s probably much easier on her.” Henry loved his family, but he did feel a little better, giving his mum the time off of dealing with three trouble makers. Now, she only really had to deal with four of his siblings, which was much less than she usually had to deal with. “Yeah, I suppose it’s probably just luck. I don’t really know how muggles being born with magic works, really.” He wondered if anyone knew how muggles, seemingly randomly, acquired magic.
Since Liam and Jessica were out of the house, that meant the rest of his siblings were still in school. “They just go to school back home, really. Daniel and Diana are only a year older than me and Mary’s two years older than them. Leena’s getting close to graduating, I guess.” Other than going to school, he really didn’t know what all his siblings did. Well, he knew a bit about Mary and Leena, but Daniel and Diana were the ones he really got on with best, since they were much closer to him in age.
“Yeah, it can be nice sometimes, never any privacy, but always someone there if you want to talk,” he admitted. Sometimes he did want privacy, which might have seemed odd to anyone else who knew him. Even the most social people enjoyed their quiet time. Henry listened as K told him about life in his own family. It sounded a bit lonely, to be honest, but he let his friend finish before saying anything. “I guess it’s nice me being here because it’s less chaotic and you have people to talk to.” Henry commented, thinking about how completely opposite their lives were like. “What’s an ‘auror’?” He asked after a second of thinking. He’d not heard that word before.
Henry nodded, thinking about ways they could go about getting the slime. It wasn’t going to be easy. The Care of Magical Creatures teacher wasn’t the only one they could get the slime from, though he wasn’t sure how they’d go about getting it from the Potions teacher. “Maybe he’ll just think we’re eager to help or learn?” Henry suggested, realizing that sounded a little silly.

Henry nodded to the red heads words and was looking for any sign of discomfort or grief in his friends face before choosing his next action which was just to smile with a word as he continued to listen to his next words.
However since Henry Llewellyn brought up muggleborns being born with magic and not really knowing how, that was when Henry remembered a book that he read also and spoke" there's a book that I read that explains it a bit, basically your family was once magical but a squib or magical person married a muggle producing no magical children and since it was so far part many muggles just forgot about that part," Henry paused for a moment to look as his friend before asking" any questions? You can borrow the book to if you like Red?"
Henry listened to the red head talk about the rest of his siblings and at points was confused about a word or two but eventually understood as the twelve year old nodded with a smile and the conversation continued on.
Henry listened to his friend talk about how there wasn't much privacy at his home but someone always there to talk, to Henry it sounded nice mainly because while you didn't have privacy or couldn't spend time alone. You however were surrounded by others who could talk to you and help your through difficult situations as Henry spoke" that sounds nice always having someone to talk you and once your 17 maybe you can use magic to get your privacy, " smiling a bit at Red.
Henry nodded toward Red's comment about being at Hogwarts, they had too different home lives yet were friends as the boy spoke" Hogwarts can be Manu many things but it definitely feels nice to here with you," meeting his eyes for a moment before turning back to the lake and his feline while sat between them.
"A auror is a position in the ministry of magic that deals with law enforcement and tasked with catching dark wizards or witches," Henry replied to his friend trying not to think to hard of it since it was the one career that he hated since his mum was one and now Arthur was training to becomes one.
The conversation continued and Henry heard Red's suggestion about how they can get flobberworm smile from the care of magical creatures professor and giving him a smile as he spoke" that could work."

The Subtleties of Mischief

Henry listened to K’s explanation with wide eyes. He had magical ancestors? A million thoughts raced through his head with this concept, the first being that he wanted to look back on his family tree and see if he could figure out where it happened. They had been decent about documenting family history, but perhaps he could pinpoint exactly where it happened. “That’s pretty cool. It’s interesting that the magic was kind of like ‘oh, haven’t manifested myself in several generations’ and just…chose me.” He thought about the odds of his entire family line since that happened that he would be the wizard. Maybe there were other muggle-born wizards before him who were great aunts or uncles. The thought was intriguing. “Yeah, kinda want to read it, now,” Henry replied eagerly.
Sometimes Henry forgot the way pure blooded children were brought up. Just the concept of never attending primary school was foreign to him. That made all pure blooded wizards homeschooled until Hogwarts. Maybe there were some that went to primary school after all? Henry nodded along to what K said. “17 seems so far away,” He mused, thinking about how much was going to happen between then and now. The number seven didn’t seem like a lot until it was used on reference to years. Henry had barely scratched the surface at Hogwarts. “I just realized you’ll have graduated when I’m in my last year.” Henry thought out loud, thinking about what life at Hogwarts would be like without K. Then again, who knew what would happen in the next seven years.
At K’s next words, Henry felt that stupid fluttering in his chest. He managed a smile and hoped he was passing as not having a small panic attack. K didn’t generalize to just being at Hogwarts with friends, but with him specifically. He needed to not read into that. They were both just friends. “Yeah,” was all he managed to say in response. What else was he supposed to say?
“Oh, that’s cool. They’re kind of magical police officers,” he thought aloud. It made sense that the wizarding world have its own magical law enforcement, since regular police would be unable to handle magical criminals. It was super cool that K’s brother was training to become one of them, too. It seemed like it would be a cool job, though dangerous.
“Hopefully that’s enough to convince him,” Henry muttered, aware that it might not be. Still, slime could be useful in so many situations.

Henry never meant to go into a explanation or talk about a certain topic extensively but the twelve year couldn't help the fact because he was a natural born know it all so when Henry Llewellyn made a comment on wizarding genetics and magical abilities it made Henry smiled a bit as his friend before speaking"yeah, I agree but luckily it chose you since we got to meet and become friends. I can't imagine what would have happened if I didn't meet you red because your cool and amazing and wicked smart and all," a feeling of awkwardness filled up in the boy's mind and he quickly looked between them at his orange feline; Loki who remained seated between them.
Hearing his friend's question about borrowing the book, Henry nodded a bit and looked toward him as he spoke"after classes tomorrow I'll give it to you," before offering a soft smile toward the red head and thinking about how lucky he was to have such a amazing and cool friend like Henry Llewellyn.
Red is definitely not like anyone else, he's wicked smart and also funny. Then he's also kind and has a sense of cool about him, not to mention that he's also a amazing friend who's incredibly kind and helpful. Anyone would be lucky to be his friend, I'm luck that were friends...
A smile could be the only emotion or facial expression seen on Henry's face as he looked over at Henry Llewellyn and listened to him speak about graduation and getting older, Henry leaned his head against the tree as he spoke I'm agreement" 17 seems overwhelming sometimes," it was true that the boy felt overwhelmed for his 7th year and life after hogwarts mainly since everyone expected something different from him and he didn't even know what he wanted to do after hogwarts yet.
"Right but I'll write you and before that I promise that I'll always remain by your side Red," Henry looked a bit toward Henry Llewellyn with a smile on his face. The words he spoke, he really did mean and hoped with more than anything that they did remain friends till their last days at Hogwarts and hopefully beyond that as well.
"Yeah they are, my brother actually has been trying to convince me to become one as well after Hogwarts but I don't know. Do you think you'll become a auror, Red?: Henry questioned the red head wondering if magical law enforcement was of any interest to him before nodding at the next comment about getting flobberworm slime from the care of magical creatures classroom.

The Subtleties of Mischief

Knowing that his magic had come from some random wizard generations ago was fascinating. This knowledge was chased from his mind, though, as K complimented him and expressed how glad he was they had met. The blush that rose from the base of his neck to the tips of his ears rivaled no other and he hoped K wouldn’t mention it. Of course, as a red head, it would be difficult to go unnoticed. Henry was glad K looked away for a moment as he tried very hard to compose words in response. “Er, thanks. I’m, erm, glad I met you too.” Well, that was lame.
Taking breaths he hoped would reduce the blush and his heart, Henry almost missed when K turned back to look at him again. “That’s awesome, thank you,” he said, giving a warm smile back. Thankfully words had started to flow more naturally through his brain, so he was able to compose a comprehensible sentence.
The subject change to graduation was kind of stressful, in a way. Sure, it was over six years away for Henry and five for K, but it was still a crazy thought. Henry hadn’t considered much what he would do after graduation, even before he knew he was a wizard. At least after muggle secondary school he would be able to attend a university and have a good idea of his options. As a wizard, though? Could he still hold a muggle job? He supposed there was nothing wrong with that. Now, though, there were magical options open to him. “Yeah. Good thing it’s so far away.” Henry laughed awkwardly, realizing his mind had run away from him.
Why was K doing this to him? Henry gave a shaky smile, hoping his nerves weren’t present on his face after yet another blush inducing admission from K. He had only recently discovered his crush on the older boy, why was his heart doing this to him? “That-that’ll be great. We need to make as much trouble as we can while we’re here, after all,” Henry beamed, laughing lightly at the trouble they would make.
K’s question left Henry shrugging. “I dunno. I’ve only just learned about them. I don’t even know what kinds of wizarding position exist, anyway. Up until recently, my only options were muggle careers and I had barely thought of those.” He refrained from adding ‘I’m only a first year!’ Thinking of a career was so far out there, he really didn’t want to think much about it.

Henry thought he saw his friend brush a bit out of the corner of his eyes and his sentence sounded mildly odd but Henry didn't press on it. Not wanting to make the red head fell uncomfortable or anything so the second year just nodded a bit as his eyes drifted toward his orange feline.
Henry was glad that his friend sounded excited to borrow his book, it always gave the boy a warm feeling when friends wanted to read or showed a passion for knowledge. Probably since it made Henry feel like less of a nerd or outsider in those case as well.
Henry only nodded toward Red's comment on graduation being so far away since he could his friend didn't really want to talk about it and honesty the boy didn't either so he just let the topic drop.
"That will be bloody amazing causing mischief with you Red," Henry replied with a smile before continuing" plus maybe after we earn a reputation as troublemakers, the professor will just refer to us as Henry's." Their shared name has so many endless possibilities to use to cause mischief.
"Your right but if you ever want to know about wizarding careers you can always ask me Red," Henry replied giving his friend a smile before looking out at the setting sun... setting sun! It was nearly dinner time as the boy spoke" time goes fly when your having fun doesn't it? See you again tomorrow, mate?"
