The Fall Ball (The Hunt)
the fourth location.
With a great almighty swing, Ami would once again try to do some damage with the luggage-turned-weapon in her hands. And once again, she would be foiled by a child. With a surprising amount of reflex, the bright-haired girl had thrown herself in between the trunk and the wall. "Jesus Christ, what is your deal?!" she screeched at the girl, her anger showing through in the bright red splotches appearing on her skin. "Get out of the way before I smash your head in, chica. Shoo!"
However, all her anger at Kit would redirect itself as the transforming cat caught her attention. Apparently, cats could undergo mitosis in the wizarding world, something which Ami had not been expecting. "That's... out of pocket," she muttered to herself, glancing nervously at Kit. Eyes widening as one of the cats launched itself at her, she smoothly ducked out of the way, although she winced slightly as the wound in her leg gently reminded her that she was still pretty injured. "For the love of- I just want out of this goddamn office," she growled. Her eyebrows furrowed as she tried to think of a game plan.
Okay, fine. Although physical activity was her forte, something just wasn't clicking for her this evening. Whether it was the mask still in place on her face or her elaborate costume, nothing seemed to be working. Gritting her teeth as she realized what she was about to do, she gripped her wand tightly in her right hand. Silently muttering an apology, she leveled the tip of her wand with one of the cats. Her voice, although laced with anger and frustration, was cruel and cold.
"Diffindo."

Gregorí watched as Elisabeth proceeded to the location directed to her by Ms. Giselle before turning his attention back to the unraveling chaos. The Matagot had multiplied herself into two even though no one had hit her with an offensive spell. OK, so maybe all things offensive can cause this creature to multiply. One of them had even tried to attack him, but missed.
The Horned Serpent student was now beginning to lose his patience. Time was running out for them, but no effort to find out what was inside the guarded chest had been successful. That thing might be terribly important - nay, vital - for tonight, he simply had to know what it was - and, if necessary, took it along with him.
Really, there must be some reason why the original game was altered and the picture of Ms. Giselle was moved to where a Matagot was on duty. His first guess was, naturally, because they needed to find that chest and whatever was in it. Unless, of course, if the culprit who messed tonight's game was a madman or a madwoman (or any insane creature) who just wanted nothing but to hurt people and found the whole business funny.
If the Mexican had been fine with the Chesire
-dressed pupil before, now he was starting to get annoyed. Did she have to spoil everything, from violating people's privacy by taking their photographs to teasing them by demonstrating how good she was with the Matagot to preventing the chest from being opened?
Since the fourth-year who was trapped inside shifted her attention to attacking again instead of finding out what the chest contained, Gregorí impatiently attempted to take care of things alone. Normally not a violent person, this time he quickly pointed at the chest with his wand, muttering instead of shouting like most students tended to do, "Flipendo." He hoped that it would send the chest flying to a wall and break it as it collided hard with the wall.
And in case anybody wondered why he had to move his wand quickly and then muttered the spell instead of saying it out loud, it was because he wanted to make sure the giggling purple child would not interfere again, to make sure that she would not realize what he was doing and thus would not have time to do anything.
Speaking of her -
She was standing real close to the mysterious chest he attempted to Knockback Jinx to. He did not want to hurt anybody, but if his accuracy was distracted, would the Flipendo hit her instead of the intended chest?

The Fall Ball (The Hunt)
Draped over the chest on the ground where she had been somewhat winded by it, Eris took a moment to catch her breath and get air back into her lungs before attempting to address Ami.
"Ever...heard of Pandora's Box?" she asked. "She was warned not to open it, but her curiosity was too great. And she ended up regretting her actions."
Her gaze flickered toward Gregorí with a grim expression when he raised his wand in her direction. "Curiosity killed the cat, after all. As this is the Beauxbatons Headmaster's property, I daresay it has nothing to do with the likes of either of you." The girl's voice was more serious than it had ever previously been, all trace of her previously cheerful demeanor dissapated.
"As Miss Giselle stated, the matagot guarding this chest was probably simply used to guard her as well and that's why she was put in the caretaker's office. Now that you've rescued her, you have no more reason to stick around here." Her bright eyes flashed, almost feline themselves. "Begone."
She lurched to her feet with the heavy chest, attempting to carry it toward the caretaker's desk before Gregorí could attack it. As if sensing the excitement nearby, the desk rattled. The cabinet on one side of the room additionally shuddered.

FOURTH LOCATION
The battle wouldn’t stop. Even though Eris tried to talk some sense into the students, they were unstoppable.
@Ami Procoppio at least decided to leave the chest behind and wanted to fight her way out of the office. She just wanted to get out of here! So she pointed her wand at the first and original Matagot who had tried to attack her already twice. Time to blew her out of her way! This time the Hufflepuff managed to cast her spell - not her best work but it would do what she thought was the best. Her spell hit the black cat right into the chest and a painful mew escaped her. But that was not the only effect the attack caused. In the very moment the Matagot was hit by the spell, she multiplied again. Now there were not two but three angry Matagots.Ami casts Diffindo at Matagot 1 (DC 9)

Eris (@Kit Paine) who had thrown her own body between the chest and the stone wall to protect the property of the Headmaster had a good sense for what was going on. At least she had convinced Ami to leave the chest behind and now she also spotted Gregorí who raised his wand and pointed it at the chest. Another attack! The girl would try to grab the chest and remove it from the students sight.Initiativ Eris vs. Gregorí

Gregori (@Ginevra Tsuchiya) had different things in mind. He wanted to open that chest with force! Ignoring the Matagot who had already tried to attack him, the young boy aimed at the walking girl and spoke the incantation. The spell was perfectly performed and the aim was good - but Eris was quicker. She saw it coming and managed to dodge it by jumping to the desk and thus out of Gregorí’s sight. The Flipendo would hit the stone wall and leave a burn mark there. Gregorí was not the only one who wanted blood. The Matagots were furious. Students were attacking them and the item they were supposed to keep safe. They would not let that go unpunished.
The first Matagot who was already hurt would go for her attacker: Ami.Maybe it was due to her injury or the girl had learned to anticipate the attack from the blue eyed cat. However, the Hufflepuff girl would use all of her Quidditch reflexes and elegance. With half a pirouette she danced out of reach, the sharp claws not even getting close to her.Matagot 1 attacks Ami

Gregorí simply stepped aside - not even taking much effort. Maybe he was still an animal-whisperer after all. However, the second attack hit him out of nowhere. FOURTH TO FIRST LOCATION
@Elisabeth Erner had left the scene with Giselle, not interested in chaos and fighting. She was on the trail of the mystery and now it was time to save Laiks! With the painting of the girl in her arms, the petite girl hurried through the corridors - the potions classroom was her destination! As she arrived the three other girls were already about to leave again. She would notice the man storming through a painting. Was this Paran Taja? Was he free?Elisabeth tries to carry Giselle
Strength Roll (DC 10): 20
For Cassie (@Lucia Fox) the puzzle pieces now fell into place. This was Paran. A painted version of the man who was supposed to save the dying man in the first painting. And as it seemed he didn’t want to waste time.
Without hesitation the girl would follow him accompanied by Star - but not too much in a hurry to be polite and introduce herself though the air was short for that.
@Scarlett Aden wanted to follow her friend though she was still a little confused about what was going on. The rude guy in the painting had given them nothing! Well, she could as well take them with her, right? This treatment had worked on Gaiz, right? So, the Gryffindor tried to remove the painting from the wall. But it was so heavy that she wasn’t able to lift it up. After a second of hesitation she would leave it behind and follow her friend.Scarlett tries to remove painting from wall
Strength Roll (DC 15): 12
@Lindsey Springhall picked up the new reception ritual of the small group and also introduced herself without taking a breath and during the run. One thing was clear - the end of this was near, the conclusion. Only a bit further…
The guy who had freed himself from the ritual didn’t slow down - it would be hard for the girls to keep his pace. He stormed through many different paintings, bumping into people or animals, always politely apologizing, but never slowing down.
Time was running out!
After a few minutes it was clear that he was heading back to the first location where everything had started. The painting was no longer hanging there but leaning against the wall, revealing the black countdown on the stone wall - showing that only a few minutes were left until it ran down to zero.
The man would jump into the painting, run to the Laiks who was barely alive, and drop to his knees next to him. He drew his wand and began to murmur softly and to run the tip over the wound.CONGRATS! YOU SAVED LAIKS AND THUS SOLVED THE RIDDLE

WHAT HAPPENED SO FAR…
Reducio
- A ghost appeared in the Ballroom, proclaiming warnings of doom and tragedy, and challenged students to solve the mystery. He pointed to a silvery ghost cat as the guide, who at this point, has been named Star.
- Several students noticed odd things about the ghost:
- Dmitri Jones and Kara Capricorn shared that they noticed a crest on his robes that was later identified as stemming from the St. Mungo’s Hospital.
- Howard White noticed the Hufflepuff crest on his robes, but only shared this with Falentra Black, somewhat separate from the main group.
- Romeo Marchonné remembered odd silver stains on the ghost’s sleeves and told his companions about them… blood, maybe?
- The ghost cat led you to a painting, depicting a man who obviously had been attacked and was fighting for his life - but healing and repairing proved fruitless. Could anyone save him?
- Several students noticed odd things about the painting:
- Anastasia Beckett, Andrew Vance and Dmitri Jones pointed out an inscription below the painting: “Paran Taja saves Laiks Denbora”. Who was the man in the painting? Why was no one saving him?
- Dmitri Jones also noticed that the painting composition seemed somehow unbalanced, as did Sapphire Riddle. Maybe something was missing here!
- Andrew Vance pointed out a streak of blood on the floor of the painting. Maybe there had been a struggle? Had someone been dragged away - but by who, or what?
- Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood made anyone listening aware of a scrap of fabric on the floor in the painting, red in colour, and depicting a lion. Odd.
- Both Soren Silverwood and Callista Lovis had the idea to talk to nearby portraits to find out what had happened here. Both were pointed towards a painting that was supposed to be near the Gryffindor Common Room.
- The Gryffindor Common Room? Martyna Romero took the lead and ran off in this direction. It appeared that Star agreed with this, as the cat followed Tina’s departing steps. Star led the party to a painting near the realm of the Brave.
- There were several things that the students found out from this second painting:
- The man depicted in it was called Gaiz Toa.
- It didn’t take much prodding for him to admit his intense dislike for Paran Taja, that damn goody-two-shoes who always came running when someone called his name, and Laiks Denbora, who had apparently stolen his girl. Yes, obviously Denbora deserved to be stabbed for that - a deed Toa seemed to be rather proud of. The painting of the girl, Giselle could be found in the next corridor over.
- Some yelling and fighting ensued when Robert Toukmond decided to set the painting on fire but it was quickly extinguished, only a corner of it burnt. Needless to say, Gaiz Toa was not pleased.
- But Martyna Romero, again, had picked out a new location from the painting’s ranting, and set off to find the painting of his lost lady-love, Giselle, Star in tow.
- The painting, however, was gone, an odd note in its place. It took some brainstorming, but finally, the group figured out the meaning behind the obscure hints: It directed them to the Caretaker’s Office. But what would they find there?
- As soon as they managed to open the door, a black cat with blue eyes, identified as a Matagot stepped out and blocked the door.
- After being provoked by Gaiz the Matagot attacked the students, but the combined effort of some students and the arrival of a strange girl managed to calm it down.
- Ami managed to get into the office. Her Wand-Lighting Charm showed a chest with a Beauxbatons crest on the desk, and a painting next to a shelf, showing a girl who was desperately calling for help.
- The girl in the painting was the missing Giselle. She was confused that she was taken, but she also knew how to find Paran. He had been taken to some painting next to the Potions classroom. She also revealed that this had been meant as an activity, an event to teach about teamwork and riddle solving… but someone was sabotaging it. An unexpected danger?
- Scarlett Aden and Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin headed down to the Potions classroom first. There seemed to be some ritual going on… was Paran about to be sacrificed?
- Cassie called Paran Taja and the man in the painting managed to free himself. He ran to the next painting. Maybe he was on his way to save Laiks?
- Paran Taja returned to his painting and saved Laiks! Congrats!

As good things unfold in the painting on the wall, the one depicting Sir Paran Taja and Sir Laiks Denbora, Elisabeth turned the painting in her hands to face the other one so that Lady Giselle Taja could see the two gentlemen she cared about were safe and sound. The Hufflepuff was sure the three figures would be happy to see each other.
After giving some time for them to be immersed in their gladness, the eleven-year-old tried to speak to the painting subjects again. "Lady, gentlemen," she began, "I - um, I'm glad that all of you are - safe now. There are some things I would like to clarify just before this case can be classified as 'solved'. How did the original game plan look like before it was altered? And what alterations were made, exactly? Who altered it? What did this person - or people - look like, if you don't happen to know their names?"
After asking the four questions, Elisabeth paused for a couple of seconds before continuing, "The mystery of the alteration of tonight's game has brought us students to another mystery; things like this won't happen unless there is a connection between the two mysteries. In this case, it's the case of the chest in the same room where Lady Taja was trapped. For now, we have two questions about it: what is inside the chest, and what is so important about it?"
Whew, that was six questions altogether already. The young witch hoped that the three painting subjects could remember them all, and would not get impatient with her.
Una cosa más: *) she hoped this would be the last time questions were needed. She was getting tired, and she still had to come back to the caretaker's office as Gregorí would be having trouble finding his way out. Hogwarts was massive, and the boy was not even here for a whole month. Surely he would get lost easily without any help from a Hogwarts student or staff.
Speaking about Gregorí... did he find anything interesting? Maybe if Elisabeth could tell him about the thing in the chest, as informed by Lady Taja and Messrs Taja and Denbora, he would relax and finally got some rest they both needed for the night.

Ouch, that hurt! One of the Matagot successfully dug in its claws to his leg, and Gregorí felt warm liquid spilled out of his body. But he was not afraid; something worst had happened to him and this one meant nothing. The only thing he was concerned about was if his parents found out, but luckily he just could cast Reparo to his trousers. But that could wait, even until tomorrow.
For tonight, he had a mystery to crack.
"Someone changed this game plan," he said seriously to the mysterious pupil in purple, ignoring her impatient "begone". "Something more serious than saving the picture of Ms. Giselle is going on, and the thing inside that chest could be the key. What is that thing? I know you know much more than you've said. What's so important about it that you try to protect it? I think it's more than because of the fact that it belongs to the Beauxbatons headmaster."
How he wished Elisabeth were here. She would ask this fellow sweetly and politely, chances are even more politely than he. The Horned Serpent, on the other hand, delivered all his words with a serious face and without lowering his wand, ready to cast another Flipendo if she did not cooperate with him. Really, he did not want to threaten or worse hurt anyone, Matagot or person alike, but this student was being difficult and would not let him do his job: finding out what the mysterious item was. If he had to cast the Knockback Jinx again tonight, he hoped it would hit the chest... but would its holder cooperate easier if the spell accidentally hit her instead?
But first, he needed to enter the caretaker's office as he could no longer see anything inside. He was losing patience dealing with the angry Matagots, so instead of trying to calm them like before, this time the boy simply tried to dodge from them. Would his attempt be successful? If yes, he should be entering the room very soon...
The fourth-year who was still in the same location was simply furious and hit a Matagot with an offensive spell, causing it to multiple. Gregorí hoped she would stop it and help him interrogating this difficult student instead, but how would he ask her? She seemed ready to blow up any moment now, and he did not want to be a victim of both an angry Matagot and a furious witch.

The Fall Ball (The Hunt)

Roleplaying as Eugene Monserrac, Headmaster of Beauxbatons.
Two dark eyes flickered in the shadow as the shuffling of feet drew closer, a wooden tap accompanying the rhythm of each second step. "Soyez calmes, mes amis..." An elderly voice rang out, his voice echoing past (@Ginevra Tsuchiya) the boy's ears. "Il n'y a pas besoin de se battre." At last, the figure of an old man would appear in sight. A narrow smile revealing a brighter smile hidden behind it. "Well, my friend, it seems you have found yourself in quite the unusual situation." The Headmaster's cane tapped the stone floor twice and both matagots responded by seizing their hostilities and retreating to his side. In a matter of seconds, the tension in the room came to a halt.
"What might you be up to young master?" As Eugene stepped closer, he found his ear picking up on something else inside the Caretaker's office. As his head tilted to meet with the boy's fellow intruders (@Ami Procoppio & @Kit Paine). His dark eyes peered in to lock on the chest. "Ah... I see a child's curiosity got the better of them." The elderly man chuckled loudly as his breath transitioned into a cough. Pulling a tissue from the pocket near his chest, he dabbed his mouth. "Ehem... My apologies." His voice faltered as he tried to catch some more breath. "Viens ici et tais-toi!" He would shout towards the last matagot as he tapped his cane a third time.
His figure shuffled into the room, giving a wide grin and a wink towards the boy he passed, before shifting his attention towards the two children inside the room. "Now, how did we find ourselves in this situation, mes amis? And may I ask why you would run off with my belongings?" The old man would laugh as if the children just did the silliest thing he could have imagined. "Believe me, the things you'll find inside, would not interest you young folk in the least." he stepped closer and tapped the chest with his cane. "They hold my most prized possession...." He spoke in a hushed voice to both children as well as the boy if he decided to listen along.
"You see, when you live past your first century, the mind..." he waved his fingers around his temple to indicate the mess inside. "... it refuses to recall certain things. So I chose a long time ago to keep one thing safe." He hesitated, seemingly recalling something painfull as his face pulled into a grimace. "My memories, my life, of my dearest wife and I." The old man's grin had fallen into a sad smile. His eyes started glistening under the light in the room. "What does it matter if you live to be as old as I. When you forget the very life you've led up till this point?" The Headmaster fell silent, musing on his own thoughts before tapping his cane a fourth time.
The chest would start floating towards Eugene. "You best be on your way now, children." He smiled gently with a soft voice. "Get to bed before anyone finds this mess, ey?" The old man offered the youths another wink before turning heel and slowly shuffling out of the room, his chest in tow.

"MOTHERF$%&ER!"
Even though she had cast the spell perfectly correctly and even though she had hit that stinking giant black cat head-on, apparently, this cat was simply the spawn of Satan. Once more, the cat would split, and Ami was sort of beginning to panic. How the hell was she supposed to get out of this stupid office?
This night was nothing like what she had imagined it to be. She had thought that she was going to get a nice bonding night with Scott with their fancy costume-outfits and dope masks, maybe dance with some girls (or, two in particular), and just overall, have a lovely and uneventful time. And then when they had met the wonderful Chuck, she was convinced that their fun would only increase tenfold from there, even if they were no longer going to be dancing. But now, with her costume torn, her legs bleeding, her makeup starting to smear under her mask, and both of her friends missing in action, Ami was just about on the verge of crying.
So when an old man showed up with a cane, it was pretty reasonable to see why Ami would level the tip of her wand at his face. "I'm not a child," she said with a childish pout, her expression petulant (if not still a bit angry). How had he called those matagots off? Who was he? "How do you know my name?" she added, as he addressed them as "mes amis".
But as the French headmaster explained the trunk, Ami's defensive stance seemed to falter slightly, and her wand dropped. Memories... of love. Of a wife. She swallowed nervously, her mind immediately going to one person as the topic of marriage and love. Which was embarrassing- she was fourteen. Why was she thinking about cootie-filled stuff like marriage and love?
The grandpa would leave with his trunk, and Ami would make no move towards the trunk. If all it contained were memories, well... who was she to stop an old grandpa from reclaiming what was rightfully his? She was a sentimental kid, even at 14, and she fully believed the old man and his glistening eyes. But as his footsteps faded away, Ami turned her gaze on on the Chesire
With that, she would sweep out of the Caretaker's Office to return to her dorm and take care of her wounds. She would not address the Ilvermorny boy or anyone else still there outside the Caretaker's office, although she did finally take her mask off as she limped away.

Cassie sprinted after the painted figure of Paran, with Scarlett, Lindsey-Florence-Evanthe (poor girl) and the girl who had tried to help Cassie when the Magot scratched her (wait, where had she come from?) following close behind. They quickly reached the corridor where this had all began and Paran crouched down next to Laiks' body. Cassie breathed a sigh of relief. They'd done it. Laiks' was safe, Paran was free... it was the perfect ending, really. Except that, of course, it hadn't quite ended.
After a moment of surveying the scene in triumph, Cassie turned to the other three girls. "Lettuce, Lindsey-Florence-Evanthe, and random girl whose name I still don't know... we've done it!" Her excitement was infectious, and she grinned. "C'mon, let's go tell the others!" And she turned to sprint to the Caretaker's Office.
When she got there, however, things were most certainly not as the girls had left them. Firstly, she almost bumped into her Headmaster as she entered the corridor. "Oh! Headmaster Monserrac! Sir! Uh- Sorry- I'll just-" Cassie quickly stepped out of the way of her Headmaster and let him go past with... the chest from the office! Once the man had left, however, her energy seemed to return to her and she said loudly, "Guys!! Guess what - we saved Laiks! There were some creepy dudes try'na sacrifice a painted version of Paran - who's also the ghost, I think - but we saved him and he saved Laiks!" She grinned then seemed to notice the state of the room. There were... three Matagots? Three! "Wow. What happened here?"

The Fall Ball (The Hunt)
────── ☆ ───────[font=times new roman]#1
OCTOBER 16TH
It was a sight not out of place from a high fantasy novel - three adolescent girls, one blonde, one a brunette and one a redhead, racing down the corridor, hair streaming, gowns fluttering, chasing a portrait who had rather dramatically escaped from the ritual. Scarlett attempted to grab the ritual portrait and wrench it off to carry with her on the chase, but it was screwed too tightly. She cursed before wiping her hands on her dress - Fiona would be fuming - and stumbling over her feet to run with Lindsey and Cassie. Scarlett recognised their route; the first portrait of the dying man, Laiks.
A stitch throbbed in her side as the three skidded to a halt, Scarlett panting heavily. "Not the best at running," she said, wincing in explanation to the other two. "But - hey - we did it!"
They sure had - Paran Taj healed Laiks with his wand as a timer-countdown thing slowly ticked down to zero. It showed a message, saying that they had saved Laiks and had solved the riddle. Scarlett felt a grin spreading across her face. They had done it! They had really done it! The chasing across the castle, the shouting, the ghosts and cats - it all led up to this. They were successful. They had succeeded.
Cassie raced off back to the Caretaker's Office but Scarlett stayed behind to quickly say something. She had figured out some of the story by now, but some bits confused her. "Hi..." said Scarlett, addressing Laiks and Paran. "I just wanted to know what was really going on, if that's alright with you two...so there was a challenge for the students right? And you - Paran - had to save Laiks? And how on Earth do Gaiz and Giselle come into this? And who were the ritual people? Why did they want Paran? And were they the people who kinda...messed up the challenge?"────── ☆ ───────Action Ask about the ritual
