They Make Good Bait
@Elena Jangleton | @Haley Rose 1 February, 2021The older Gryffindor girl honestly didn't seem to have an answer to Gia's question at first either, but the eleven year old waited (somewhat) patiently to see if she was going to think of anything to say. It did seem as if Elena was simply contemplating what her answer could be, so the first year was guessing that meant the other student would eventually come up with something. A few moments later, she found out that this assumption was correct, for the older student finally agreed with her and said that the house points were what had made her decide to sign up. "Yeah, it's always nice to get more points for our house—and hey, since we're all Gryffindors, every point we earn will go to the same house!" realized the first year with a sudden grin.
A little bit later, Haley came back from the kitchens holding a small bag full of what could only be food. "No, we didn't have to wait long at all!" Gia reassured her groupmate with a smile. In fact, she thought, Haley had been remarkably quick in her efforts of going all the way to the kitchens, getting food from the house elves, and coming back. Not that much time had passed at all. Leaning over slightly to see what the contents of the bag were, the brunette managed to figure them all out before the redhead even took them out of the bag. No lettuce, but there was plenty of other good, healthy foods for their worms to snack on.
"Thanks," said Gia, taking the cucumbers Haley offered her and handing one to Elena. When the majority of the food had been distributed evenly, the eleven year old copied the third year and rolled up her sleeves until they were at her elbows. Then, very gingerly, she picked up one of the blanket-wrapped bundles that were the flobberworms. Holding it in one arm and grabbing a slice of apple, she tried to figure out how to feed it. Should she just hold the fruit near the creatures mouth and hope that it started eating? Or. . . what? Deciding that that was her best option she moved her hand so that it was right beside the flobberworm's mouth and watched curiously as it took a tiny bite, making a crunching noise as it did so. "Okay then," the girl said quietly to herself.
When her worm had finished the apple slice and began to squirm once more, Gia looked up at her fellow housemates to see how they were doing. Haley had picked up her worm as well and was holding it in a similar fashion to Gia, but Elena hadn't even taken it off the ground at all.Smart, thought the first year. It was too late now, though, she'd already picked it up and found that it wasn't too bad, so there really wasn't any point of putting it back down again. Taking a slice of cucumber this time, she had just begun feeding that to the worm when she heard Elena speak.
"Definitely," the eleven year old agreed, thinking of the last errand she had participated in—coincidentally, the very one she had met the third year in. They'd had to make a fire in the middle of a raging blizzard, something Gia was sure no one could consider easy. "I also did one where you had to make a snowperson—or creature, mine was not a person—and then the house elves brought it alive to sing with you. . . that one was pretty fun." Remembering something, the first year looked at Haley with a curious expression on her face. "Did you do that one? I think I might have seen you there. . ." Then, in response to the next thing Elena said, she nodded. "I bet we could." she looked at her worm thoughtfully. "I'm going to call mine. . . uh. . . Slimy is not a good name, but for some reason it's all I can think of at the moment." Gia laughed.Word Count: 2233/800

They Make Good Bait
thinking about some names@Gia Adelard & @Elena Jangleton
While Haley held her worm like a baby, she took a tomato and held it out to her worm. The worm took a bite and Haley laughed at the sight. It looked so strange how these creatures ate. But it looked even stranger when the three girls sat here feeding their worms and Haley had to giggle again. After her worm took the first bite, however, it didn't take another. "You really don't like tomatoes? Oh Wow." Haley spoke in amazement and grinned at the two Gryffindors next to her. She tried the cucumber now and it seemed to taste a lot better to her worm.
"Oh yes!" she replied to Gia's question, thinking back to that day and again a big smile formed on her lips, "That was so much fun and my Olaf came to life too but after he started singing and believe me it was really horrible, the elf quickly turned him back into a quiet snowman." She laughed as she told the story and again she was incredibly grateful to have such great moments and memories here at Hogwarts.
"That's a good one." She replied with a laugh at Gia's statement. Haley wasn't very creative when it came to names, but didn't want to leave her worm nameless when his friends were getting names. "Mhh." She thought for a while, "What could we call you?" she asked the worm, but she would not get an answer from him. Emma? No. Paul? No. Wormie? Nope. Haley thought through a few more names until she could finally decide on one. "You look like a Bailey." And with that, Haleys Worm had now been given a name too.
"What are you going to name yours, Elena?" she now asked curiously, eager to know how she would now name the last of their trio of worms. But she was really right. This was probably the easiest task she ever had. Taking care of a slimy worm for a few hours was really not difficult. But it was a nice but unusual experience and she could get to know someone new again.
