Devils In the Walls Solo closed

This thread takes place inside the Headliner Office

A recent display from his colleagues has developed a powerful realization. The power of a spoken word outweighs a physical wound. The power of the written word, if executed correctly, can rouse a different brand of horror. The ability to influence one’s beliefs can provide temporary ownership of their mind, and if seated in the dark recesses of one’s subconscious, can alter their understanding. If approached correctly, Thomas could transform a reader into a victim.

Like any media official or politician, a lie, no matter how vast, is made white if they believe it will push forward a necessary agenda for the living. A lie that is no more than a tool, a method used by the distributor to achieve action that they deem necessary. It is this concept that helps those distributors to sleep at night. Thomas Lestrange was prepared to embrace his inner liar, but not necessarily for the benefit of his fellow students, only himself.

A crone’s grasp waited in the shadows for a moment to strike, a boy that has failed to report since his third year at the castle has attained the status of AWOL. What’s more, he has attained several positions of power, the badge, and the quill. Scenarios he did not think plausible as the words of his story have gained traction around the campus.

There was a connection to note. A meeting with Professor Jensen prompted a path to change at the end of last year. Over the summer, Thomas aimed to lay aside the painful memories of his father, accepting what he no longer has. And to alter the trajectory of his deal with crones, deviating from a deal he made twenty-odd months ago. Though as time passed, a paranoia hung over his shoulder. Planting the idea that his head of house’s decision to appoint him to the Prefect position was not sourced from his willingness to change. Instead, the connections he has.

Implying auntie herself operated a different set of strings to help him attain these positions, even if she did not directly vow to do so. She offered him power and knowledge for his own tasks in return, only now was Thomas Lestrange beginning to see the product of her efforts. With his influence within the school growing, Thomas began to anticipate a day would come where she came to redeem her gifts, and the boy would be left with no choice but to say yes.

Inserting a narrative with these severe connotations would not easily gain traction. A wealth of facts must precede what Thomas aimed to present as reality, even if there was no direct evidence to support his theory. This was his method of clarifying this growing belief that crones held a larger influence within the castle than many realize, from students to the headmaster. As Thomas saw it, the backlash to come from this choice dimmed in comparison to the trouble that awaits for abandoning his deal this year. It was time to solidify his choice in ink.

Thomas was seated at a desk in the headliner office. A quill in his left hand, and a handful of previous Headliner copies opened before him. One turned to the page that documented the fire in the Hufflepuff common room, another an account of the Slytherin fight in London. The boy was gathering facts for a story to increase student awareness, closely tied with incriminating implications for the school’s lead officials. Thomas would plant the idea, and the rest would follow.
