Quidditch Game Hufflepuff v Slytherin

Again it seemed that his eyes simply weren't on his side this day. Ethen scanned the pitch desperately looking for any tiny glint that could indicate his prize but there was nothing. He knew the longer it took him to find the snitch, the chance of him getting obliterated by some bludger would only increase. Thus far he knew he had his savior teammate still working hard to make sure that he didn't end up as just a splat on the ground. He had no doubts the other team would keep trying to eliminate him so he just hoped that he remained quick enough to avoid anything that came his way.

The only solace that Ethen had was the knowledge that the other team's seeker looked as entirely lost as he was. There had been no indication that the other player was having any greater luck. Ethen hopped that it was his relentless screeching that was doing the trick, but it likely had more to do with the snitch remaining out of sight. Even with the other seeker as lost as he was, Ethen knew better than to let himself relax. All it takes is an instant and a good grab and he wanted to make sure that he had the first shot at it. Narrowing his eyes, Ethen continued to scan the field searching for any sign. He had heard that Atlas had scored a couple of times which seemed odd considering that she was the keeper. But he wouldn't put it past the competitive girl to take things into her own hands if she got the chance. "Come on...Where are you, you little golden bastard," Ethen grumbled

It had been an event-filled first round as Atlas watched a few of the snakes take a penalty lap for their fouls. She knew it was no time to lay back as there was still a lot that could happen especially if she let her guard down but as she stared down the pitch she noticed the Slytherin goals were left unattended.

Koko was returning Erin to their broom and for a moment Atlas got a devilish idea into her head. Biting down on her lip she briefly weighed the pros and cons before leaning forward on her broom as she raced toward the middle of the pitch.

She had no idea what had come over her as she had never tried to be a chaser before but as the quaffle was thrown into the air, Atlas quickly dove for it catching it in her fingertips as her eyes grew in size excitement coursing through her body.

Realizing she couldn't just hold it and hover, Atlas' eyes focused on the goals as she raced down the pitch effortlessly tossing the quaffle through the left hoop as the announcer called out 10 points for Hufflepuff.

A squeal of joy escaped her quivering lips as she raised her fist into the air turning back towards the middle of the pitch as she once again tried to steal the quaffle away only to have Tyranni slide right paced pulling the quaffle from her reach.

Trying to race back to the goals, Atlas knew she wouldn't be able to make it in time as Tyranni was able to play her game and also sail a goal through the undefended hoops. Rolling her eyes, Atlas' competitive gremlin came to life as she cocked her head staring through her eyebrows at Tyranni as she turned on her broom once again catching the quaffle as she raced down the pitch scoring another 10 points for her team.

"I could get used to this chaser bit." Atlas joked to herself as she did a quick spin on her broom catching Ethen out of the corner of her eye as she wondered how he would be able to see the snitch in this brutal weather.

"You got this Tebo...come on you can do it!" She yelled out throwing some stellar finger guns his way before making her way back to her home in front of the goals. In the moment the adrenaline from actually scoring points for her team kept the cold at bay as she couldn't remove the ever-growing smile on her face.

It was becoming tradition for her to surprise the opposing team each game in one way or another and there was still plenty of time for her to show them more.

Aaron's relief at Serena catching Heinrich was short-lived, because the game was still on and in full swing. A glance at his captain revealed what the next move should be, and Aaron got back into position to go for the quaffle again. It was now or never. Hufflepuff needed this momentum after not scoring to start, and it seemed Slytherin had only sent in one chaser this time to battle for the quaffle. This was perfect!

As the quaffle was released for the fourth time, though, Aaron felt a weird chill down his spine and then was momentarily distracted when he saw an unexpected flash of blonde hair. Atlas! It seemed she had flown forward from the goals, and was currently racing down the pitch with the quaffle in her arms. It only took a moment for him to process what had happened, but he soon raced after her to make sure if the quaffle dropped, he would be there to catch it. But there was no need! The Slytherin keeper was gone, and Atlas effortlessly sent a quaffle through the hoops. Although outwardly he was smiling and felt happy as he cheered for the goal, fist-pumping and everything, Aaron felt a twinge of irritation in the back of his mind. Atlas was meant to stay behind and guard the hoops, maybe if she hadn't been there, then he could've gotten the quaffle and-

Aaron's train of thought was immediately halted when he realized what was happening, and he shook his head in the cold winter air. Now was not the time to think such thoughts. It never was the time! They were a team, and they would work together to win no matter what! Don't get ahead of yourself, Jones! This is your third official match on the Hufflepuff team! Work together to win! Atlas is doing awesome, now you have to as well!

Back at the next quaffle grab, feeling guilty for his thoughts and mentally giving himself a pep talk left Aaron distracted and the Slytherin chaser ended up the winner. And with Atlas having joined the chasers, there was no one to stop Nico from scoring again. However, Aaron didn't blame her in the least, especially considering she was doing his job better than he was.

At the next grab too, Atlas came out on top and soared the quaffle through the hoops again. Aaron was starting to think she should just stick it out as a chaser and then they could properly work together. "Nicely done, Atlas!" he called out, a huge smile on his face when he passed her in the air as he headed into his next position.

Serena didn’t hear anything from her teammate after her question. She briefly turned her head, looking over her shoulder to check on him, and found that he was still conscious. Well, that was good. Maybe he was just nervous since this was his first game? Or perhaps he simply preferred the quiet?

Either way, Serena needed to turn her attention back to the game. It wouldn’t do any good for both of them to fall off her broom because she was distracted. As the Quaffle was tossed in the air, Serena went for it, but it went to Atlas instead. Well, at least one of her teammates grabbed it and was able to make an easy goal since the posts were abandoned.

Serena tried to grab the red ball for the other two Quaffle grabs, but she was just a little too slow each time. Well, at least Atlas was able to make another goal.

“Way to go, Atlas!” Serena congratulated her teammate, giving her a thumbs up and a smile.

Another goal! Praise the gods, she was actually able to score two goals in her first game on the pitch. There was not much time to celebrate however, as this game does not wait for anyone.

Damage check. Everyone seemed to still be in the air and Erin was back to her broom. Dan was safe, and it appeared Cash and Lindsey were playing a game of beater badminton. Lindsey defending Ethen was starting to become annoying. Was the Badger seeker that much of a coward that constant defense was needed to feel safe?

Annoyance building, would it be proper for her to ignore goals and try to take out Lindsey? She did not suppose it would set a good example for the team as captain, but this was Slytherin. They were not known for playing nice. She contemplated what to do next for a moment more, then set out on the path she determined best.

A penalty lap did nothing to quell Thora's annoyance, instead giving it additional time to flare up stronger than ever. A hardcore perfectionist, even simple mistakes tended to irritate her immensely, and this instance was no different - how could she have done so badly? And as if her blatch gone terribly awry hadn't been enough, two more goals for Hufflepuff brought the game to a tie. Just like that, Slytherin had lost their early lead, a fact which only drove home the young chaser's desire to do her best to give a flawless performance from then on.

In an attempt to finish her lap of humiliation in as little time as possible, she flattened herself to the handle of her broom, yearning towards the action all the while. She'd failed once, but wasn't about to allow another opportunity to slip through her fingers. After all, her teammates were counting on her now that she'd finally claimed a first string spot after months of waiting, and mistakes simply weren't a feasible option. She had to prove her use, prove her worth, and to do so, she'd just have to try harder.

And with that resolution, she trained her attention back completely on the game, a new fire in her eyes as they roved over the uniform-clad figures. She needed only a few more moments, and she'd be back in the game. Just a little longer…

Percival glowered at the blank look on the other boys face. His irritation was only fueled more by the boy's seeming disinterest in him. Turning away from him as if he was nothing more then a speck of dirt on his shoe. The boy didn't like that feeling. It reminded him far too much of a time in the ring when another boy made it clear how little he meant to him. He didn't want to be tossed away anymore. He would make people look at him. Percival clenched his teeth together, hard enough to make his jaw ache.

"Cut the crap Flash. I know you are dating Winters." he snapped at the boy. His mouth felt sour just saying the words to the boy. "You two were practically hanging off one another when we had that stupid lock-in." he growled.

Heinrich could not do much whilst on the other first year's broom. What else could he be of help with? Of course, he was thankful that she'd catched him and saved him from the plummet of death, but now, that left both of them vulnerable. Nevertheless, Heinrich would scan the surroundings before directing his index finger to the dark brown ball hovering around. "the quaffles there!" he pointing out. It was the least the young Hufflepuff could do to help.

A glimmer of skepticism daubed his housemate’s features before settling back into neutrality. His unwillingness to engage would leave Thomas with a mirroring expression. With no direct evidence to site, Thomas digressed from his attempt to elicit a reaction. Turning back towards the action on the pitch with a gentle huff, elbows resting on his knees in forward lean, hands clasped together underneath his chin in careful examination of who he would supplant if his number was called.

It’s wise to learn from those who come before you. Like a young draftee, you enter a new organization like a sponge, an enriching analytical period. A lot can be gained from simply examining the way a quality player carries themselves. A message his Russian hockey coach regularly preached in between sips of likely mixed cider, practice is a great way to hone your skills, but those who oft watch the tape will always be a step ahead. Don’t play the game, think the game.

Though a benched player is more susceptible to distractions. Flash turned away to address another peer, but Thomas still tuned in to their exchange. A clarification of his current flame--quite literally. Aside from Quidditch, Thomas has only ever seen Beckett at the furtive ball, where she joined Victor in a bed of flames. Perhaps foreshadowing his eventual death. That is, if that day was real, or just a hazy memory planted in his mind. This suspicion grew each time he saw the bane of the ball, or the cagey blonde. Thomas was too young in his education to understand the boundaries of magic, but he has suspected those that practice the darker arts have the ability to plant falsities in one mind.

Consideration of this topic came in unison with Holmwood turning back to Thomas, offering an apology. The boy mostly tuned out, only catching fragments amidst a central underlying thought---Flash was not his enemy yet. With the multitude of beatings he has taken at the hands of his peers, perhaps he’d be wise to cut down going forward. With blue eyes remaining forward, he would only issue a soft response. “Don’t mention it.” His tone seemingly defeated, a refusal to engage or acknowledge the rest of his verbiage regarding team camaraderie. Thomas Lestrange had nothing left to say.
