It was a cold winter morning at Hogwarts, and Ellie was walking out of the castle breathing heavily from a long week of doing simultanious homeworks, and went to read a book outside on the grounds. Even though it was quite chilly, there was no snow, and since almost everyone around was bundled up, it didnt seem like anyone was that cold.

She sat down and got her book out, Quidditch through the ages. She tried to get warmer as she looked up and saw all of the messenger owls fly out gracefully of the Owlery flying on the cold breeze to collect all of the letters and packages, and she knew that by lunch, they would all be back with the post for that day. I wonder if they ever get a good long break. Maybe they do, and no-one notices! It would be so amazing to be able to fly like that. Surfing on the tides of the sky, i bet i'd be scared to fall to be honest with myself.

By then, Ellie had noticed a figure coming down to where she was he way she came. Oh nice! She made it!She put her teal and gold bookmark back into Quidditch Through the Ages and put it back in her satchel.

Gabriella checked her watch and quickened to a light jog; she was a few minutes late, but hopefully Ellie wouldn't mind. Truth be told, through all the buzz of getting used to classes, and homework, and awkward conversations in hallways and libraries and classrooms, the Ravenclaw had forgotten about Ellie, so when she had received an owl from the girl who had been so nice to her as a lost newcomer, Gabriella made sure to arrange a time to meet as soon as she could. Now, however, she was late, which hadn't been her intention. Hopefully Ellie won't have given up on me and walked away, Gabby thought to herself, worriedly.

It had been a few weeks since the two girls had first met, but - once Gabriella had remembered, that was - the occasion was easy to recall. Gabriella; a lost, slightly homesick, socially awkward first year Ravenclaw, and Ellie; new to the school like her, but still willing to extend a hand and help a stranger. And while she hadn't met Ellie since, she was still incredibly grateful for all of Ellie's help, and it had really helped her to eradicate her fear of socialising. Well, not completely eradicate - there was still Gabriella's deep-rooted fear of speaking to older students - but no matter, no matter... there were more than enough first-years in the school to talk to, and while she'd have to speak to older students at some point, that wasn't an immediate problem. Hopefully. Unless Ellie had brought some random second-year friend with her, but Gabby was pretty sure it would just be the two of them. When they had spoken by owl, Ellie had been pretty set on just continuing where they had left off, which was nice. Although hopefully there would be a little less frantic gabbling on Gabriella's part, and more smooth conversation. She should have had practice enough, she thought to herself, counting out on her fingers the people she had met so far. Joyce, Elliot, Wendy, Evangeline, Henry... that's five people since I last spoke to Ellie. I should have improved significantly.

As she emerged out of the castle and onto the grounds, she saw a familiar figure sitting on the floor about twenty feet away. Gabriella realised that it was very cold for October, and she probably should have worn her winter cloak, but never mind. A herd of owls swooped overhead- a herd? Gabriella said out loud - though quietly, so nobody would hear her. A herd? A herd of owls? No, that can't be right... Anyway, there was a group of owls flying over the grounds into the castle, and Gabriella stopped yet again to marvel at the fact that sights like this were so commonplace here.

The Ravenclaw broke out into an even faster jog as she approached her friend. "Hi, Ellie!" she exclaimed. "Sorry I'm a little late. It's been a while!"

Gabriella slowed down now and sat on the floor next to her friend. Friend? Gabriella thought to herself. She wasn't sure whether or not to call Ellie a friend. They had only ever met once, and while Ellie had been really nice to her, one meeting hardly constituted a friendship, not unless it was a really long meeting - and their meeting hadn't been really long. In fact, it had only been a few minutes long, despite feeling a lot longer at the time.

The Ravenclaw breathed a sigh of contentment, before turning to Ellie and asking her a question. "So," she said. "How are you?"

I backdated the RP to 3rd October, a few weeks after they would have met. Just contact me if you want to change that. Also, you might want to change the thread type to RP, because it isn't an RP at the moment :)

Ellie watched as Gabriella approached at a jog. " Sorry I'm a little late. It's been a while!" Gabriella sat down on the bench next to her and said " So, How are you?" Ellie took a second to reply, " I'm doing fine, actually, I bet you saw the owls flying overhead too, i just came from the Owlery to send my parents a letter, when i also got from the family owl..." Ellie pointed to the navy knitted sweater she was wearing. " This sweater. I bet they were going to give it at lunchtime when the post comes, but it had just arrived, so the staff let me have it now i guess. "

Ellie turned her head to hear more birds behind her. Its cool that all of these birds are out in the fall season. They must be the ones not migrating. She looked back at Gabriella. "Sorry if i'm talking too much.." Ellie said, realizing it might be a bit much for the first ten minutes of seeing each other for the second time. Hopefully we can be friends- or better yet, she thought of me as a friend before, in the Common Rooms.

When Ellie was sending Gabriella the owl, she wasn't exactly sure how she'd reply, but her hopes were correct, and she would have someone to hang out with that wasn't just a run-in out of not paying attention in the corridors. So, naturally, Ellie was glad when Gabriella replied to her owl in a nice fashion.

"It's a really nice jumper," smiled Gabriella, when Ellie responded. "It's pretty hard to get post when you're muggle-born like me," she continued, "seeing as our family doesn't have an owl, or anything. They have to get post to me some other way." Gabby frowned; it had occurred to her that she didn't actually know how her parents got mail to her, and she made a mental note to ask them in her next letter. When was the last time she had written a letter to them? It had been two weeks at least, and she had told her family she'd write every Wednesday and Saturday. Today was a Saturday, so once she had finished speaking to Ellie, she'd have to go back to the dormitory and write. Then she'd go to the owlery to post the letter, and then she'd get started on her homework. She counted out her homeworks in her head: Charms, Herbology, Defence against the Dark Arts... was that it?

Gabriella kept a to-do list of homework that she needed to do, and she found it really helped her with her workload. She'd do the worst, hardest subjects first - like Herbology - and her favourite subjects, like Charms, last, so that she would have less energy by the time she came to them but she'd still do well. And that, the Ravenclaw thought, was a pretty effective way of doing things.

Anyway, Gabriella's train of thought was going off on a major tangent. It did that sometimes - her thoughts jumped randomly from one to the other, all connected by some weak link. When she got lost in her train of thought, however, she often found she just cut out the external world, and she hadn't spoken in a while - indeed, she wasn't even sure if Ellie had said anything.

Either way, Ellie wasn't talking now, so she asked a simple question. "So, uh, how have you been finding your classes so far? Which is your favourite?"

Ellie smiled at the compliment about the sweater. "Thanks!" she replied, "I get what you're saying too, we only just got an owl because me and my brother needed something from home and there was no way to get it here otherwise. " The last time Ellie got post was the time she got the sweater she was wearing now. It started to make her a bit homesick, she had always not been great to being away from people she knew, so it was quite a relief when she was able to have a nice meeting with Gabriella to see someone she had already known.

Her thought was interrupted when Gabriella asked her, " So, uh, how have you been finding your classes so far? Which is your favorite?" Ellie took a moment to reply, as she was still thinking about last time. Ellie had been carrying around the satchel she had with everything she needed to get through classes and school. It is very useful in some situations. It included hand sanitizer, a journal, which had her schedule, and her notes from each class broken up into different sections to be organized, she had a different journal for drawing, some pencils, and hair ties when brewing potions in class.

"My favorite probably has to be potions. The homework is fairly easy to complete fast in my opinion, so I can get it out of the way and complete the harder, and more time consuming of the homeworks assigned." Ellie replied. "I have everything i would ever need in this bag of mine. I like to be prepared..."

"What is your favorite? I'm interested to hear!" She asked, interested in Gabriella's answer. This is going to be a fun day.

Gabriella listened carefully as Ellie spoke about why Potions was her favourite subject, genuinely interested in what the other Ravenclaw had to say. Ellie made valid points; the homeworks were indeed quicker to complete than they were in other subjects, and the essays, when they were set, were a lot shorter. It was just the potion-brewing itself that Gabby found difficult - the theory was fine. "Potions is pretty good for me, too," she said, vocalising her thoughts, "and yeah, I agree, the homework is quicker to complete. But I'm not very good at actually brewing the potions... I mean, I often rush it and end up skipping important parts, and I'm quite clumsy too, so I knock stuff over quite a lot." She blushed - it was true, Gabriella did seem to have a particular talent for knocking things over - three ink bottles already this year, which must have been pretty difficult thing to achieve by accident, considering it was only the beginning of October. But somehow, Gabriella had managed it.

For a moment, Gabby thought that Ellie was going to tell her what was in her bag, as she had sounded eager when she said she liked to be prepared, but a few seconds went by and Ellie hadn't said anything to follow her statement through, so Gabriella assumed she wasn't going to. Personally, Gabriella also had a satchel for carrying things around in, and she often found she had too many things to fit. She couldn't wait until she was older and she learnt the Extension Charm, or whatever it was called. Her bag held quills, ink, spare ink, parchment, a planner, a notebook in case any writing inspiration came to her, and a few other bits and bobs that she hadn't bothered to take out last time she had needed them - a few loose Knuts, some hair ties, an empty Chocolate Frog packet...

"My favourite subject's Charms," replied Gabriella, in response to Ellie's next question. "I guess I'm just really eager and excited to learn lots of different spells, although we haven't learnt that many so far. Later on in the year I hope we will, though. My least favourite subject is definitely Herbology, though. I just don't find it interesting, and I tend to get really bad marks." Well that much was true, Gabriella thought to herself, remembering the large red 'P' she had received back on her last piece of Herbology work.

"Anyway," Gabriella asked, "it's been a few weeks since we met. Have you met anyone else?" The Ravenclaw frowned; she hoped it wasn't an inappropriate question to ask. "M-maybe I could introduce you to some of my friends, if you haven't," she added hastily.
Wrong move, Gabriella, she thought to herself, internally begging Ellie to say no. While she had met other students, and had friendly conversations with them, she definitely couldn't count any of them as friends - in fact, if there was anyone she could count as a friend, it would be Ellie herself. I guess I'll just have to hope that Ellie's really popular, she shrugged to herself, which was entirely possible - while Gabriella was, by nature, a social creature, she definitely wasn't popular, and tended to have no knowledge of who the popular crowd were.
