It was that stupid blindfold.

Damnit.

Ravenclaw seemed to be playing the safe card. A double attack of the Bogies curse mustn't have been too comfortable, and Everly felt sympathy for her partner. Spotting an opening, she shot that same curse at the fourth year, Delilah. If Everly had succeeded, perhaps they would've had a higher chance at winning, but Everly supposed it was down to playing the defense.

And now, Part 3. Just to be safe, both Robert and Del fired off a Curse of the Bogies at their poor opponent, both of them hitting at the same time. Robert felt a cold satisfaction in seeing the reason he had snot dripping off his chin start to succumb to the same symptoms. Robert's normally pleasant face was transformed into something much darker by his savage grin, the effect only partly diminished by his constant sniffing.

The boy did not feel a hint of remorse or pity for Jackson because of the last three rounds, not because the Eagle believed he deserved it, but because his normally empathetic attitude was swallowed up by cold logic. Jackson had known what he was getting into by being a first-year in dueling, probably more so than Robert had when he first joined. His opponents in his first duel had felt no qualms about taking him out in the first ten seconds, why should he be any different? At least Robert would have the decency to congratulate the Gryffindors on a duel well fought after the fact, no matter what the outcome.

Santario watched on as the duel progressed and it would seem like Robert being affected by curse of the bogies wasn’t too terrible of a hindrance for the time being. Robert would execute an exemplary Flipendo on all levels… If only it had hit. If one had not been factoring in his opponent's active dodge, Robert would have seemed to not only have cast flawlessly, but his aim should have been on point as well. The only problem for him was that Everly watched his every movement like a hawk watches a mouse, and she was not ready to be done with this duel just yet.

Delilah knew that if she did not do anything and soon that her partner would have been miserable. Instead of pointing her wand at an opponent, she turned it to Robert offering him some relief. A purple light would engulf him, and he would start to feel better. Not perfect, but better. The aches and pains that had begun to creep into his joints disappeared, and the fever fog over his mind retreated temporarily.

Jackson would not allow the transgressions done unto him to go unchecked, and he would not be underestimated. He levied his wand at Ravenclaw's fourth year and sent the sickening green light towards Delilah with a mighty vengeance. Maybe it was her concern for her partner that did it, but Delilah would not be able to get out of the way of the most potent cast Curse of the Bogies all duel. If Delilah had ever been hit with this spell before, she would be able to recognize that this was not the same. Unlike Robert, who seemed to fight his effects off a little longer, Delilah might be able to notice that this one was ultimately stronger as its disgusting effects started to take place. The telltale fever would start to set in bringing a fog over her mind, her sinuses would start to get congested making breathing that much more difficult, and to top it all off the snot would start to invade her face.

Valentine swayed back lightly to dodge any incoming projectiles, but the shift of Delilah’s line of focus warranted an abrupt change in tactics. Under the effects of the Bogie Curse himself, it had little chance of striking at all if his enemy did not step into the attack, even if he was just as skilled at casting as she was at avoiding spells.

The same motion saw him levelling his wand with the older girl, targeting her centre of mass as he uttered the incantation and executed the wand movement with practiced fluidity.

Mucus ad Nauseam.

He felt a sudden tug in his gut, a strength that he had only felt once before. That time when he was alone in the abandoned classroom and had accidentally unleashed a Knockback Jinx so powerful that it had broken the glass window. The attack pushed him back as well, whereupon he arrested his motion with a firmly planted back foot, jolting him back to his senses.

Crap, was someone playing that tragic violin music that was killing her mood?

Spotting Delilah cast the infamous healing spell at her partner made her grit her teeth. It seemed, for now, that Robert's curse reteated. Everly was once again reminded of how unfair the circumstances was, but she wasn't one to complain. Watching Robert's movements closely, she watched him cast another excellent Flipendo as he had before, headed towards her. She managed to dodge it, though she suspected that it probably could've taken her out if it had hit. She was left to relish in the fact that Jackson's spell had landed, the curse taking effect almost as soon as it hit Delilah. Vengeance was sweet, but it was too soon to celebrate.

It was Delilah's turn to be hit with the wave of congestion and illness. oh my god, you really take breathing out of your nose for granted until you can't anymore. That disgusting feeling at the back of your throat. She still managed to heal her partner, but it was still very uncomfortable.

With Jackson suffering the effects of two curses, Robert turned his attention back to Everly. Everything about his casting felt perfect, with his most powerful flipendo yet emerging from the tip of his wand. And it wasn't just powerful, it was fast and eerily on point. Somehow, despite all of this, his slippery opponent once again evaded his efforts. How is this even possible? he silently asked himself, perplexity plainly showing on his face.

With a quick shake of the head, he once again focused on questions he actually could answer, such as how to win this duel. With a dozen different ideas and strategies flitting through his head, he breathed a sigh of relief as he felt his partner’s healing spell counteract some of the effects from his curse. “Thanks, Del!” he said with a smile. However, that smile soon turned to concern as he saw her also get hit with the same spell. “I just wish I could return the favor.”

This would be a simple round of Everly and Robert bracing for attacks that would not come their way. Everly still on her last leg, how she was still standing was a pure miracle in and of itself. Robert starting to feel the fog that had been banished just last round ebb back into his mind.

It would be Delilah and Jackson, both under the same disorienting effects of Curse of the Bogies, going after each other’s throats. Jackson would set sail a Flipendo that Delilah had no intention of being hit by as she evaded it. However, Delilah’s Incendio Duo would never leave her wand. She would call out the spell, and a bright red ember would start to form at the tip of her wand before simple fizzling out.

The overall mood was sobering. With nearly all parties slowed or weary, Valentine could feel the pace of the battle dragging itself out. Much of his initial stamina had been burned, yet there always remained a flicker of hope.

He was starting to adjust his tactics now to suit the needs of the duel. The remainder of this match would no longer be conducted like a sprint but as a marathon. His movements became slightly less drastic and a lot more efficient.

Simply put, he was hunkering down for the long run.
