One of the large tables had been taken up, though not entirely. Quinne had settled in the middle after wandering over from finishing class, his arms once filled with books and parchment. Everything was set down carefully and tidied up; the books from potions on one side and the notes in front of him. Given he hadn't made an effort to change out of his robes yet, he merely smoothed them out and loosened the house scarf he wore. A change from his usual, but the crimson scarf seemed more fitting for the evening hours rather than working ones.
The study room was definitely filled with a couple groups, but no one he knew were in them. A part of him hoped the other three Ravenclaws he met would be about, instead of taking their work to the common room or the domitories. Fingers sought out the inkpot he'd brought along and he was mindful of the lid, but placed both on a separate sheet of parchment to ensure there'd be no risk of ink splatter on the table.
His homework was no different from that of any first year's first couple of classes, but he focused on the Potions first. A study he was particularly interested in, due to the range of things that could be made. Quinne hadn't taken long to go through his notes, adding in what was required in the homework itself, but eventually, his mind wandered over the other possibilities. A few books later, and he was reading through some of the environmental potions. One of them was added to his notes, and he'd go over their properties and necessary ingredients more than once. Perhaps one he could hopefully brew in the future.

Mistie usually avoided the Study Room, mostly because she didn't like when things were too quiet. The Gryffindor Common Room was quite lively most of the time but today it was unusually noisey so she decided to head down to the Study Room for a little peace. She had some catching up to do with her school work and could really do without distractions.
She found herself breezing through her studies this year, just like back home, but when it came close to testing times she started stressing out more than she usually. There was so much to do at Hogwarts, so many memories to make, and Mistie had to balance work and play way more now. It was difficult for such an outgoing person such as herself.
She carried a bag full of some of her school books and notes, along with a few snacks and trinkets for when she took breaks. Mistie had an essay to write and one of her hobbies were calligraphy so when it came to writing long things she couldn't wait to practice her penmanship. The essay was for Charms but she also had work to do in Potions and Herbology. Potions always required a lot of work so she knew she was going to have a long night in the Study Room.
Mistie stepped into the room and looked around for a seat. She waved at a few people she knew but she didn't want to sit by them to avoid getting distracted. She gazed around before her eyes fell on a semi-full table and she quickly made her way over, since she knew no one sitting there. She sat across from a boy, who she nodded at. She then started taking out her things.
Soon enough Mistie was studying away but after twenty minutes she got bored and decided to take a small break. She looked up and noticed that the boy in front of her was studying Potions, too, but he seemed to be diving deep into topics she hadn't covered yet. She figured that he was an older student, though he looked her age, so she decided to ask him something.
"Hey," she whispered, waving her hand over what he was reading to get his attention. She bent over the table to look at what he was doing, probably a little too close for comfort but she didn't care, as always. "Hey, are you any good in Potions? What are you reading, I need some pointers with my studies."
Mistie eyed him up. He had really dark hair and nice blue eyes. He dressed well, with fitted clothing that looked of nice quality. She wondered if he were of pureblood, and which family he came from.

It didn't take much to draw his attention away, but Mistie's hand had brought him back to reality and he blinked owlishly at this sudden set of fingers over his book. His gaze immediately turned from said intrusive hand to the other student, though he shifted absentmindedly at realizing how close she really was. The distance gained wasn't much, but enough to keep him somewhat content.
"Oh! Hi." He greeted after getting his thoughts straight and he pulled his hands down from the table, sure he wouldn't have to worry about holding the book further. Losing a page was certainly not something to be concerned about, given the age of the books he had nabbed. "I like to think so! I haven't gotten a lot of my own homework done quite yet." Maybe it was best to focus on that than reading into things not quite covered, but where was the fun in that? "I wouldn't mind trying to help, though, sure! Was there anything in particular you were stuck on?" Even with his acceptance of said request, he paused occasionally during his responses, but managed to hide whatever anxiety he might be feeling.
As she took the time to get a better look at him, Quinne did the same. "Gryffindor, yes?" Obviously, given the girl's worn colors, but it helped lead into more casual talk...although awkwardly. One could atleast give him points for trying, though. "Let me just.." Although he hadn't taken up the entirety of the table, the Ravenclaw made an effort to tidy up books he didn't quite need and he'd look for a better place to set his homework. The notes he was scribbling up for his own interests were left infront of him, likely because they weren't anything regarding the current classes.
No risk of someone swiping ideas for their own homework, even if he didn't outright assume that's why she was there.

Mistie grinned when he agreed to help her. Sure, she didn't need much of it since she was good at figuring things our for herself, but she kinda wanted someone to talk to at the moment, and he looked interesting enough. He didn't seem too bothered by her seeming inability to give personal space so she just lied across the table, despite the looks of other students.
She was thinking about what she should ask of him first when the boy mentioned her house. "Gryffindor, yes?"
"No, I just look decent in crimson and gold, that's really it." She stifled a yawn, watching him organize his things."And you're a Ravenclaw? Do all of you just research and read all the time? Not really, I think. Some of you are quite silly."
She noticed that he had hid things that had to do with subjects she was learning about. Is he trying to hide his work from me? "What are you doing, I said I needed help. Let me see." Mistie made for his notes, but then saw the notes that were already in front of him. Before he could protest she snatched them up and sat back in her seat, looking at it.
"What is this you've been writing 'bout," she asked, waving the notes. Really she should be asking about her own study subjects but this was a tad bit more interesting at the moment. Mistie gabbed a stick of mango-flavored gum from inside her bag and started chewing it, quietly, fortunately.

Outwardly bothered, no. Inwardly? A certainly different story! When she laid across the table, Quinne was more self-aware (and perhaps, self-conscious) of how everyone else was looking at them. "I don't think that's...appropriate." Atleast it wasn't the library, where he was sure one of the Librarians would have a thing or two to say about the display. "...Right." He remarked to her blatant sarcasm, opting not to be so poor with his attempts to break the ice in future encounters. "Yes, and yes...somewhat. I do other things, but this is what I'm focusing on right now. It's very interesting, everything here. I'm new."
He wasn't very subtle with his attempts to keep his homework away, but that was his and he didn't want someone to assuming he was sharing more than advice. "You asked for help, not my homework!" Quinne exclaimed in mild-protest, but she'd gone for the notes afterwards and he was quite fine with that. Those were mostly musings; things that he could use the potential potions for on a regular. "...Potions." He replied dryly, as she waved the notes about. If anything, atleast the actions could help the ink dry a little faster. With that in mind, he'd close up the inkpot with a sudden exasperated look on his face. What a day.
On the note she had swiped from him were some minor details of a Pepperup Potion. "Those notes are really...not much interest, I'm sure. I'm just studying them for later."

"I don't think that's...appropriate."
Mistie smirked when he said that. She thought it was mildly funny when people got uncomfortable when she got "too" comfortable. She couldn't understand why second-hand embarrassment sometimes, she did what she wanted and didn't care what others thought...unless she did something terribly wrong.
"I do other things, but this is what I'm focusing on right now. It's very interesting, everything here. I'm new."
Mistie perked up. "Oh! So you're a first year like me, brilliant. Or are you a transfer student? That would be even cooler."
She noticed that he looked a bit exasperated but pretended not to notice. This was the usual with her antics, and she was usually fully aware of how she appeared to others, but it never bothered. But maybe a little this time, since they were supposed to actually be studying in the Study Room, a place she didn't often venture into.
The boy explained that had been scribbling down stuff about something called the Pepperup Potion. From what she had skimmed it cured the common cold, and that was basically it.
Mistie pursed her lips. "Um, how boring, actually. Why you would care for this when there's so many other interesting things? I know about some cool potions."
She dug through her bag and found a notebook where Mistie wrote down random things she found out, especially concerning magic. Inside there was a folded piece of a paper that she had swiped from a housemate about a cool potion she hadn't learned about yet. She unfolded the paper and showed the Ravenclaw.
"Felix Felicis. It's a luck potion. You think I could use it in Quidditch? Probably not, considered cheating of sorts." She shrugged her shoulders. "I'd probably use it when I go exploring when I'm bigger. Hey, my name is Mistie, by the way. What about you?"

Quinne did his best to overlook her smirk, but it was telling. Thankfully, just an expression and little else. Nothing of immediate concern; no one came over either, and showed their annoyance towards her cat-like lounging. "First Year, yes. I'm muggle-born, so this is the first school of this sort I've ever gone to." He confessed, almost hesitantly. Would it bring up further poking? Time would likely tell, but he still prepared himself for the possibility. Still, he smiled afterwards, though with an expression that was likely to fade just as quickly.
"Boring? It's quite useful! Everything is, honestly, but I want to focus on the more basic things before continuing on. If I'm given the opportunity to brew things on my own time, I want to practice everything. The ingredients aren't so difficult to come by, provided one allows, so it gives me the opportunity to work on it. Once I'm sure I can make it with relative ease, I can move on to bigger and better things."
He rambled on, only to pause when that note was held out towards him and he made a reach for it, should she allow his own attempt at 'sticky fingers'. Not that he intended to steal it, but he could read it more closely his own way. "No, it would likely give you an unfair edge, but it could definitely come in handy with....yeah, that. Exploring. Even finding misplaced things or people. Imagine the work it could assist you in, so many possibilities."
And the Ravenclaw was already going over such options when she introduced herself, something he'd almost missed in his moment of daydreaming. "Oh! Uh, I'm Quinne Lawson. It's nice to meet you, Mistie." Despite her very random, confusing mannerisms. "So, you wanted help....what can I do?" He still intended to do that, despite everything. "I just won't be able to do your homework for you, of course. So, giving complete answers to questions is completely out of that offer, heh."

Sitting in near-silence was far less unsettling when one knew the near-silent bodies around one's-self, and true to that fact, Raleigh was looking for the perfect place to perch.
Imora was probably scaling the astronomy tower, and he'd vastly underestimated how difficult it would be to find someone as garishly-ginger as Kali. Yet, both were likely to be distractions and while Raleigh welcomed any and all and was oft the source of some dastardly-timed distractions himself, he knew that was Probably Bad for getting any work done.
So he'd slipped in retreat to the study room; a very small person with very large books.
Today's tactic was to squeeze as many required books around the 'fun' ones (Dragon Breeding for Pleasure and Profit, as well as a few thin volumes of what appeared to be a serial about phantom animals of the Highlands) as possible. Luckily, Scamander's was required reading - not that Raleigh hadn't already read the thing from cover to cover and indulged in a little doodling from some of the older edition's illustration. (How that Antipodean Opaleye's picture had the gall to move about when its leg-joints were wrong, wrong, incredibly wrong was beyond him, but it was a lovely picture nevertheless and certainly worth emulating!)
"Oh-Quinne!" slipped from his mouth even as he'd used his chin to steady the stack he'd brought with him. "Hey, good, I'unno where the others went, but it's Potions theory anyway, and m'not sure that won't scare the girls away, anyway. Budge up, yeah?" He seemed intent on scooping out a spot of his own at Quinne's table.
Trouble was, there was someone already on it.
He yelped a bit, not unkindly and as if he'd just noticed her now, and bent himself into an odd little curl and shuffle just to keep his tower of books intact as he lowered them to the floor - though he hadn't even come back up for air before he chirped an "Exploring? Where'd you think you want to go?" Who was this person, again? Raleigh didn't seem bothered that he'd jumped straight over introductions.

"First Year, yes. I'm muggle-born, so this is the first school of this sort I've ever gone to."
She eyes narrowed a centimeter. The young Gryffindor didn't have much against Muggle-Borns. Even though she grew up around the non-magic and her own mother was Muggle-Born herself, Mistie felt that muggles were inferior to wizard-kind. But when she said things like that her mother would give her a lecture about how gifted muggles were with innovation given their situation, a life without the use of magic. But Mistie could hardly relate, also growing up around Purebloods and other witches and wizards who shared her magic heritage.
Mistie was listening, suprisingly, while he talked about why he was interested in the Pepperup potion and learning other potions in general. The subject was pretty interesting to her as well; she considered making her own experimental concuctions that had fun results, maybe like a potion that turned one's arms into temporary wings. Unfortunately she couldn't attempt anything that wasn't based off the curriculum but that definitely didn't stop her from wondering...or planning.
He also agreed about the benefits of having the Luck Potion. Mistie wondered if she'd be able to somehow sneak the thing onto the Quidditch Pitch, if not for herself perhaps someone else.
The boy then introduced himself as Quinne Lawson. Mistie had a cousin named Quincy who lived in the States, attending Illvermony. He was also the intellectual-type so he'd probably fit right into the House of Ravenclaw.
"So, you wanted help....what can I do? I just won't be able to do your homework for you, of course. So, giving complete answers to questions is completely out of that offer, heh."
Mistie quite obviously narrowed her eyes this time, putting on a faux smile. "Fortunately I never hinted I wanted that, right? Pretty sure all Gryffindors go around—"
"Oh-Quinne!"
Just then a wee boy interrupted them, greeting them with the sight of a towering pile of books. Mistie eyed him curiously. He had shaggy hair, animated amber eyes, and a lively demeanor about him. He proved that latter fact by yelping when he noticed Mistie.
After placing his books on the floor, he immediately questioned her. "Exploring? Where'd you think you want to go?"
Mistie switched quite abruptly from having a menacing manner to a cheerful character. She loved talking about her dreams and ambitions."I'm going to become a great explorer," she announced, drawing her attention fully to this new boy. "Perhaps I can start off here in this very castle but I'm going to find things no one else can in the world, maybe in place no one else dares to go, and be well known for it. My mum calls it an 'innate gift for discovery'. I always find things...just everything."
She looked between the two. "What about you two? What sort of things do you wanna do when you get bigger?" She was still a bit annoyed about Quinne assuming that she might simply want to cheat off him but he was decent otherwise. Mistie just hated when people assumed the worst from her.

Thankfully, Quinne was oblivious to this narrowed stare, because he had focused on writing out the information from her note onto one of his own sheets. Maybe something worth practicing in the future. Mistie would be given the note back after and a smile, which faltered when she pointed out she wasn't hinting to plagiarism. "Oh! I meant no-." Well, it likely was offensive and he almost told why he assumed that's what she wanted. Thankfully, he caught himself beforehand. "I'm sorry." It was quick, but it was genuine!
In came Raleigh, as if a distraction was noticed as a necessity. He would help his fellow Ravenclaw with the books if he needed, making sure he had a spot for them as well. "Hey! Oh...maybe we'll find them in the common room or at the mess hall." He said thoughtfully, and he looked away, as if expecting them to show up at the mere mention.
"That sounds pretty great! This castle probably has so many things to find." Quinne said excitedly, as if considering it himself. Not quite yet, since he wanted to focus on one thing: Potions. Wonderful potions! "I bet there's so many magical places, too, with things waiting to be discovered. I was told about the dangerous forest, but I know that's not allowed to be used as a spot to go wander." Even if that promised amazing things as well. Perhaps even interesting ingredients for potions, the list seemed endless.
And a question of Mistie's had followed.
"I have never really thought of that, but I want to learn everything about potions...maybe even create something of my own." Quinne said, running a hand over a nearby book. "I'm sure there's so many things to mix together that might result in something great. If not, well, I can go around the world and assist people with what's already there." But now, he was looking to Raleigh to see what his answer may be.
