2021, Stage 2 Group B: Gryffindor vs Hufflepuff

Thankfully, Katrina’s retaliation wasn’t in vain. The hours of practicing finally paid off as the fire erupted from the tip of her wand. The flames hit her opponent right in the chest. Katrina, instead of smiling, had an slightly evil glint to her grin, just for a second, then it was gone.

Katrina turned to Calanthe and gave her a small nod. Possibly an indication of previous plans, maybe just affirmation, or it could be coincidence. No matter the case, Katrina turned back to her opponent. She gushed about 3 to 5 more hits and she’s be out. All Katrina had to do was survive her increasing headache and snot.

She wiped at her nose and turned back to her opponent. Time to get victory, finally.

One would think that after the badger collapsed, the other would soon follow. But this was getting rather annoying now. How could one person have so much luck, and how could Calanthe herself have so little. The backfired Incendio sent stars through her vision, and she blinked them away to find flames crawling up her arm. Unwilling to sacrifice her already waning accuracy by switching hands, Calanthe kept a firm grip on the wand with her left hand. If it wasn't for the confidence shining through Katrina's eyes, Calanthe would have probably given up already. But the witch's acknowledgement was enough for her to stomach the fear of burning alive and continue to focus on the duel.

Although Maria and Calanthe were both on fire, the witches would not spare a single second to save themselves, instead pouring every ounce of effort into eliminating their opponent. It was terrifying yet incredible to behold. Both blazing witches took aim and fired. Maria, whose robes had just begun to extinguish, was struck with another Incendio from Calanthe. Although this one did not catch the fabric, she would still feel the force and heat, agonizing on top of her previous burns. Her spell was aimed for Calanthe in turn, though the Rictusempra was dodged with relative ease. Katrina, armed with the understanding that a Hufflepuff's natural state of being was on fire, had another go hitting Maria with a a double-powered Incendio. Maria very narrowly leapt out of its path, her dodge cutting it so close that the passing flame's heat aggravated her burns as it barreled by.

Maria had proven to be tenacious, impressively evasive, but her bogie-oozing opponents were bearing down on her full force. Katrina smirking sadistically, Calanthe casting while ablaze, the lionesses made for formidable duellists. The referee could only watch on with bated breath, eyes wide and snapping from side to side of the stage, body still as he forsook all fidgeting to hone his concentration. Once Autumn was out, it was easy to make the mistake of thinking that this match was essentially over. The only thing one could be certain of in duelling was that nothing was certain.

Hello dear duellers! Time flew by on this one, there's only 24 hours left before the deadline. I still need posts and actions, or owl/dm me for an extension.

Katrina knew that although it seemed like her duel was a certain win, she had to continue fighting. The tables could turn in an instant, Katrina had no means to go down today. Not until her opponent was being carried away.

Katrina nearly groaned when her fire was dodged. Her head was aching and Calanthe wasn’t getting any better. It was, she had to admit, getting harder and harder to focus, to fight. But she was far from giving up just yet.

Katrina readied herself again. No giving up now. She was too close to victory to turn back.

Things were not at all looking great for Maria. They’d managed to set her on fire twice and she’d barely done any damage in those rounds because they’d dodged her attacks. This was not looking great. Gritting her teeth she held her wand tighter and stared down her opponents. It looked like things were once again not in their favor much like the last round, but she wasn’t going to go down without giving them a much harder time.

Calanthe barely registered the scorch of the residual fire from the badger's spell. Instead, her emotions fought a war between two dominant states: the ecstatic feeling of seeing her opponent's spells go wide, as well as her own direct hit, and the misery that the bogies curse continued to inflict on her. She glanced at her partner, knowing that Katrina was probably feeling much worse, but the older girl still looked steady and driven. Wishing she possessed some of those admirable traits, the lion turned her gaze back towards her prey.

The duel was unpredictable, scales wavering wildly in the balance. Katrina once again healed Calanthe with a strategic Reparifors, diligently preserving her second-year partner. Snot ceasing for one merciful moment, Calanthe was capable of firing off yet another Incendio at Maria, who spun out of the way with exceeding grace. Even the referee's focused expression rippled with shock. The lionesses were fighting the hex with all their might, and the badger was dodging with all of hers. Maria clapped back at Calanthe with the Tickling Charm, and unlike her opponents, her accuracy was unimpeded.

As if assailed by a hundred feathers, Calanthe would experience an agonizing tickle all over. The poor Gryffindor girl was being put through the wringer. Katrina continued to heal her, lessening symptoms and injuries, only for Maria to rapidly replace them with further suffering. It must have been a rollercoaster of an experience. Just watching made Pericles exhausted; he could only imagine how she was feeling. For each relief Katrina provided, the willful badger took another chunk. Would the healing be capable of outpacing the damage done?

Katrina turned to Calanthe yet again with the intention of healing, she didn't have to close her eyes this time. The cascading blue encapsulated Calanthe for a moment, giving her a reprieve from the spells and the Curse. Just as the blue faded, Calanthe shot out a fire spell. Katrina watched, certain it would hit home, suddenly, Maria just leaped out of nowhere dodging the spell with ease. Bloody hell, that should not have happened! But Katrina knew there was only so long that Maria could dodge.

Katrina turned back to Maria, with a glint in her eye once more. Her head pouded, her nose wouldn't stop snotting, and disgusting mucas was threatening to make her cough. Katrina still pushed forward. Katrina knew it wouldn't be long before she was out, but she would make sure Maria was out before she was.
