A Day In The Life of A Worm
For Errand: Wormer in Winter{ PV to Reid Kovacs }
Monday, 1st February 2021
Serena was not one to shy away from harmless little worms. Of course, there had been times that people thought she would be afraid of them or think they were gross - namely that annoying Paracelsus boy some years ago. However, she had no problem with them. Getting dirty was not really a concern that Serena had. So when the groundskeeper asked for some volunteers to help take care of the creatures, she simply had to oblige! It sounded like so much fun.
It was now almost dinner time. Serena had spent the entire day carrying the worm around, nestled in a little blanket and taking care of him as she attended her day's classes. For the most part, it went fine. There was the time when she thought she almost cast a spell at the worm during class when they were practising their newly taught spell, but no, no, he was totally fine. That mild panic aside, he was doing pretty well. Well, for the most part. There was another moment when she thought she lost him. He had managed to move around her desk and got himself hidden behind one of the textbooks on it. For a moment there, Serena thought she had dropped him somewhere - or dropped him on the floor, which begged the question of whether someone had stepped on him or not. A lot of relief surged through her when she found him.
Honestly, she had no idea how she managed to concentrate on her lessons. Did she even manage to do that? Most of her attention had been making sure he was fine and he stayed where he was meant to stay. The biggest challenge was mostly keeping Pizza Rat away from him during lunch and after class.
Did rats eat worms? She had no idea. But Pizza Rat seemed insistent on trying to get close to Slimy Towers, the first of its name. She actually had no idea if Slimy Towers was a male or female worm but that did not matter. Honestly, she had no idea if Pizza was to eat the worm or play with them or what but that was not a risk she wanted to take. Pizza had gotten a little chubby over the years of eating a lot and not exercising at all. Though he was not a big creature, he was still quite a bit heavier than small little flobberworm.
With Pizza Rat tucked safely into her left pocket - as far away from Slimy Towers as possible - Serena lifted the flobberworm in her right hand as she made her way towards the Great Hall rather slowly. There was still a little time before dinner so there was no immediate rush. She was mostly just busy playing with her new friend before she had to return him. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail so she could avoid getting the thick slime in her hair. Though, he had managed to get some into one of her textbooks and probably all over the common room when she was there earlier. Whoops.
Serena would have gone outside with the worm but it seemed rather cold. And the whole point of the event was to keep the flobberworms warm and happy, right? So she decided to keep it indoors all day. There was a point where she almost took him to her dorm room but then realised that she did not really want to sleep in the slime. She might have not minded getting some on her hands or things but sleeping in slime was probably not very nice. Figuring she had no idea how to wash the slime out, she just let the creature stay warm in the common room, as she sat near the fireplace - nestled onto the sofa.
Walking through the corridors, she sported a huge grin on her face as she made little kissing noises towards the creature placed on her palm. They seemed to be moving out of the blanket that they had been provided with earlier, as though it wanted to go for a walk outside of it. Taking it as a sign, she lifted the little worm onto one of the suits of armour and watched them trailing over the shoulder, making their way across the suit. Of course, there was a slime left behind but that was not either of their faults. They were simply just having a little bit of fun, right? Besides, she could not allow them to go for a walk on the floor - what if someone did not see the worm and accidentally stepped on it? That would be bad. This seemed a lot safer!
"Who's a good little worm?" She said in an accent as she looked at the brown worm just slowly making its way across the suit, "You know what? I'm gonna call you Knight Slimy. You have now been knighted, good worm!" She announced, deciding that the flobberworm looked absolutely precious with the suit of armour underneath it.
"What do you wanna eat for dinner? Lettuce or cabbage or uh, what else do you even eat?" She asked, not entirely sure what else flobberworms ate. She was aware of they mostly ate the first two and could probably easily find either at dinner. There had to be some sort of salad, right? Lettuce, at the very least, must have been available, surely! "Reid, do you have any idea what these things eat other than that?" She asked tilting her head over to her companion, "Or what is actually for dinner? God I hope it's good. I'm so hungryyyy," She whined slightly, suddenly craving a bowl of pasta or some garlic bread or something with lots of cheese. Maybe something sweet. Ahhh, she just wanted food now.
Her eyes widened slightly, "Oh god... hopefully it's not urm... You know," Nodding her head over to the flobberworm to indicate she was trying to say 'flobberworm' subtly without actually saying it out loud like you would for a child, "Fritters..." Flobberworm fritters had been served at the school before but it was certainly not something she enjoyed eating or wanted her new friend to see. Oh in the name of Merlin, Slimy wasn't going to become food soon, right?!?!

A Day In The Life of A Worm
[font=PT Serif]With no companion in the beginning, Reid was not just aimlessly wandering the halls today and in fact had a destination in mind. He actually wanted to run to the owlery to send a message to his uncle, mainly about how he was requesting a new pair of boots for the winter.
With to no one's surprise, he had ruined his after the abuse he put it through the year. Also, his size was changing and that itself was pretty worrisome. He was considerably taller now and was still growing it seemed, but he paid it little mind as he just clothes to fit now. Since having dropped most of his extracurricular activities, he's found himself with little to do during the day.
Reid had opted to help out the professor with his endeavors of the slimy kind, especially when he would get to do it with a friend. He thought the errands were pretty fun and never the least bit interesting, his last one had been with Professor Boniface. His notion of taking care of a creature though was something a little more majestic and grand.
He imagined himself having to care for one of the big and mighty creatures, maybe even see a hippogriff. Yet to his surprise, it was a flobberworm, a very lumpy looking one too. He set himself up at this point, but he decided not to back out now. Maybe if he tried hard enough, he'd find its eyes. But in the meantime, he was accompanying Serena Towers with small talk and was briefly distracted by a painting.
While she was cooing at the worm, he was asking a painting about a piece in particular next to him. "Reid, do you have any idea what these things eat other than that?" The Hufflepuff looked over to his friend and opened his mouth with an incredulous 'uh'. He had no real idea but with how it looked, he only assumed it was like the other flobberworms. Reid was about to say something when a thought came to being.
"Greens, right? I'd hope it's greens ..."
He didn't bring his toad Scully to the affair because he secretly feared that the flobberworm might eat his toad. Not even Serena could probably save her dearly knighted Slimy from his wrath if that happened. Reid stuck a finger up as he sounded off all he could think off of the top of his head.
"Lettuce, tomatoes, onions, probably a salad right? Could give him a salad, no dressing, I don't think they like ranch. No meat either, honestly if the ground wasn't frozen solid, probably grass." He rubbed the back of his head, mussing his hair slightly as he tried to be of help to Serena. Reid thumbed over his shoulder towards the way of the Great Hall. "Could bring him to the hall and get him food, but y'know they're serving the um - ..."
The fourth year motioned his hands, also trying to not mention the 'flobber fritters' that had been served a few times. He made a face, grimacing slightly before he dropped his hands to his side. "I mean, I can go in, grab some stuff and maybe sneak it out." He thought it was interesting how Serena took to the flobberworm, he thought it was a little unsightly looking but there was certainly something endearing about it.
But all in all, he was a little grossed out by how it looked. Yet it was a gentle creature and thus he wanted to treat it with respect. Reid slipped his hands into his pants and rolled his neck. "Also, if he ever gets tiring to hold, I'm more than happy to hold him. You've been taking quite good care of him, quite lucky isn't he." Reid laughed lightly.

A Day In The Life of A Worm
Serena tilted her head as she turned to listen to her partner in crime - well... in caring, in this case - speak about creating a full salad for the flobberworms, "How do you know they don't like ranch?" She asked, suddenly curious as to why no to dressing but yes to the other stuff, "What about like uh french dressing or whatever?" She asked, trying to think of another type of dressing for the salad. It should have been obvious that she was not an expert cook or remotely into eating salads from her expression as she pondered on what other types of dressing were available. Was caesar a type of dressing? That was not a question she could answer.
The thought of entering the Great Hall and having their new friend, Knight Slimy, see flobber fritters was a horrifying thought. She really did not want the little bean to see their friends all fried - and tasting pretty nasty. When Reid mentioned sneaking some stuff out, she wondered if that was the best idea. It probably was but she did not want him to get in trouble for doing that when they were simply trying to take care of a worm for the groundskeeper! That would have been pretty unfair, "Do you think it will uh... notice?" She asked, genuinely wondering if flobberworms were intellectual enough to realise that. It was not meant to be insulting, by any means. But rather, she was curious. She peered closely to the creature that had finally made it's way to the other side of the suit - where she lifted it off the suit and back into her palm, nestling it into the blanket once more, "I guess, as long as we don't feed it uh those fritters, it will be fine? But if you think sneaking out something is better, we can do that," Careful not to use the word 'flobberworm' and 'fritters' in the same sentence, just in case it could understand them.
Walking down the corridor, she swung him a little - which essentially meant gently moving her arm from left to right and back again but keeping her palm upright and cradled around him. She was not moving fast but more like a gentle sway of her arm to give him a bit of a rollercoaster experience.
"Oh he's not very heavy but you're more than welcome to. I am sure he'd love to spend time with you too," She offered, holding out her palm and offering Knight Slimy to Reid. She was not tired at all. It had been a rather fun day. Grinning, "I love him. He's adorable! I don't really want to give him back but it's probably a good thing I will. Pretty sure Pizza Rat might end up accidentally hurting him..." She announced, explaining why she had been taking care of the little Knight all day and had no real trouble with doing so. Unfortunately, she was definitely worried her rat would eat him or hurt him whilst playing with him (she was still unsure which one Pizza wanted to do). Did rats even eat worms?!
