Interacting with@Freya Thomas
The potions room was nearly empty for many students were taking the day off in preparation for Halloween. It was an out of class study period where anyone could join to hone their potion-making skills. Cade and his cauldron partner, Freya were only just starting their potion. Their objective was to remake a potion in their textbooks. Cade thought this to be a simple task that could be easily done. All he needed to do was find a potion in the book and follow the directions. He was quite confident with following directions as he was a fair reader and a baker at that. He was used to following a recipe for his mother's bakery back in Ottery St Mary. Why should potion-making be any different?

Cade didn't know much about his cauldron peer, however. He knew Freya was in her second year at Hogwarts. With this information, Cade assumed that Freya would be a good partner. Second years already had a few potions under their belt. Cade was confident nothing could go wrong. Flipping through the pages of his textbook Cade found a simple enough recipe.

"How about this hair raising potion?" Cade suggested to his cauldron buddy. He wanted to have fun with the potion making process. Having a ridiculous effect would not only be hilarious, but a fun memory to look back on. Cade waited for Freya's answer. The room was quiet but for the low simmer of the cauldrons at other tables. Some students were already presenting their finished potions to the professor. Cade didn't mind. He wanted to take his time with this and really enjoy the process.

"I mean it only takes a few ingredients: rat tails, porcupine quills, and billywig stings." He read off the page. He hoped there would be enough stock in the ingredients closet. It seemed like a good recipe. There wasn't much preparation either. Just weighing the ingredients after using the mortar and pestle on the porcupine quills. He smiled this could be fun if they did it correctly. What could go wrong?
*I had permission to mention that Freya was already there*
*they try to make the hair raising potion but end up with the pompion potion*

While Freya was looking forward to Halloween decor like the rest of the school, she knew that she could not concern herself with fully preoccupying herself with all of the holiday's hubbub. Balls detracted from getting grades up, and why would she want to dress as anything other than herself, anyway? Being a plumber was good enough, and pretending that she was away from the dumb, magical school did not change the fact that she was still at the dumb, magical school, struggling to pass her classes. It was for these reasons that she was here today, hoping that a bit of effort would allow her to understand Potions. It was like Muggle cooking, she was told; yet for some reason, it felt like some random lady made it up and made it harder just to spite poor Freya.

That being said, she didn't particularly want to be here; rather, she wished she could be out on the grounds or meandering the corridors instead. But here she was, and she was fortunate enough to have a partner, who seemed much more enthused, or at least engaged, in the process. Meanwhile, the drone of the simmering cauldrons was putting Freya into a daze, as she contemplated any and all things that she would rather be doing at this moment.

The voice of her partner, Cade, broke her slightly out of this daze, and she nodded shyly at his suggestion. She knew that she was a year older than him and that likely came with his expectations that she would be quite the accomplished potioneer. In actuality, Freya knew this was untrue, so she planned to follow his cues in hopes that she can learn from him by some sort of magical osmosis.

"That would be fun," she said shyly and unconvincingly. Forcing a smile, trying to act as though she cared at all about Potions, Freya gazed at the boy's eyes, hoping he would not realize that he was partnered with a deadweight in terms of potion-making. With a bit more forced enthusiasm, she nodded and murmured, "Right, I'll...get the ingredients?"

Without waiting for his reply, Freya swiftly made her way to the closet that was filled with ingredients for their potions. She had been so dazed when Cade suggested the ingredients that she had already forgotten what they needed, and instead followed another student as they grabbed a flitterby moth, a bouncing bulb, and a foxglove. Much like cooking, Freya reasoned, the ingredients were probably similar enough for substitutions, and she knew Cade had said three things, some relating to animal byproducts. She was certain it would be fine.

She silently returned to the table and placed the objects gently on the table, looking at the book. With a flush, she realized that the ingredients she had returned were completely wrong, but she was supposedly a Ravenclaw, right? She couldn't be wrong. Quickly, before Cade could realize her mistake, Freya declared, "And first is the rat tail, right? I'll add that."

Freya threw in the flitterby moth without a spare second and smiled widely and confidently at Cade as she lied through her anxiety. With a small nod, she once again returned to looking at him straight in the eyes, as if to say, what's next? She hoped he would follow her initiative and make the potion work. It would be devastating if she proved just how difficult magic was to a fellow Ravenclaw; Freya might die of embarrassment.
