Oops. The moment Lucia walked in, it became obvious to her that this arguement wasn't really one she wanted to be a part of. Blood purity (and lack of it) was a huge issue in the Wizarding World, with everyone taking a different stance on it. Most old families seemed to be taking the purist stance, including the Foxes (hah Lucia thought, like we can talk about blood purity) and the Kings. But some were taking a more modern view, some even going to the extremes of saying that muggleborns were better than half-blood, wizard-born or pure-blood witches and wizards, because they brought new ideas and views to magic. They tested the limits, some people said, simply because they didn't know what the limits were. Lucia, personally, was somewhere in between. She didn't think that a person's parents made them lesser or better than other people, but on the other hand she didn't get how muggleborns could even have magic at all. When she had first come to Hogwarts, she had been sure that muggleborns would have little magic, definitely not as much as purebloods, but had been proved wrong, which baffled her even more.

Jennifer quickly told her, in that slightly whiney way which Lucia tended to associate with spoiled, high-society purebloods. In the times they had spoken, though, Lucia had thought that Jennifer seemed quite nice, so why was she- ohh. Lucia suddenly remembered the reason which Jennifer had mentioned. Her grandfather had been taken ill, and had ended up going to a Muggle hospital. Lucia had never really understood the reasoning behind this, but the bottom line was that the muggles hadn't been able to save him, and he had died there.

"I-" Lucia started, but stopped herself. She ran her hand through her hair as she thought. How were you supposed to tell someone who's beliefs had stemmed from a death that they were wrong? Lucia sighed. "Jennifer-"

But another girl interrupted, a blonde whom Lucia recognised from duelling. What was her name again? It was a month... June? No. April? No, that wasn't it. May! That was it! May! Lucia flushed when May tried to tell her off for not displaying Hufflepuff qualities. "Yes," she snapped, not noticing her facial features seeming to turn almost birdlike. A part-Veela, especially one who wasn't supposed to be one, always had to keep ahold of themselves when they were angry, but Lucia often seemed to forget when she actually was. Luckily, the signs were small and hard to remember after they had happened. A trick of the light, maybe. "I am a Hufflepuff, thank you very much, and in case you haven't noticed, one Hufflepuff quality is kindness, which you currently seem to be lacking. You don't know all the story here, so don't make a judgement on how good it is having only read the blurb, okay?"

Jennifer also backed Lucia up, but the Hufflepuff turned on her as well. "Look, Jennifer, you're in no position to be sticking up for anyone right now, okay?"
But again, before she could speak another word a boy she didn't recognise began to talk - a long speech that seemed to encompass all of his hatred towards blood purists. Jennifer seemed near to crying as she shouted her retort, and Lucia spoke before everything broke down into a physical fight. "Jennifer, there aren't any Muggles here, they can't get in anyway," she told the younger girl. "But just because something happened because of one tiny group of muggles, that doesn't mean that muggleborns, who aren't even muggles, deserve to be treated like this! You're not a waste, Jennifer but you're not better than any other first-year witch or wizard, pure-blood or muggleborn."

Then, Lucia saw a familiar face and calmed a little, her bird-like features melting away into her regular ones. Frost was also a member of the dueling team - a fourth-year, Lucia was pretty sure. And now it seemed she was a perfect as well, because she told Jennifer that she would be getting a detention soon and lead the younger girl gently away.

Lucia watched them go and adjusted the strap of her bag again. "Merlin..." she muttered to no-one in particular, then turned, and left before anyone could speak to her. She had a lot of thinking to do.
