When Marcus answered, disproportionately proper yet following the same spirit, Kels' smile would inch larger with every word. He could barely contain a maniacal laugh, the way he was being so nice. He liked nice people. He nodded along enthusiastically when he said 'Healer Hawkeye'.

"Oh yeah. Definitely always call me that." Healer Hawkeye gave him a wink, but he was serious. Whether it was meant in jest or not, he was locked in now. Kels looked forward to the next staff meeting. "Maybe I woulda made a good bird. Guess we'll never know, unless you wanna adopt me."

Though he was smiling enough for his cheeks to start hurting, he tried to cool his jets. He knew he could lay it on too thick when he got excited. He had enough friends in the past yell at him to know his enthusiasm for meeting people needed to simmer, instead of being cranked to boiling right away. Instead, he tried to keep quiet as Marcus sipped on his coffee and watched the field. Tried and failed, because he still chuckled under his breath. The feeling he had before was a ghost, off drifting into the horizon, far away from his thoughts.

"Quidditch is a good time. Better when ya know the players tho. Not that I liked seein' my mates get hurt neither, but heck..." He didn't have a shiny, nice answer to the age-old question, despite being asked it more than once. "Iddn't more like... I couldn't be a healer at all if I couldn't stand seein' people get hurt?"

He scratched his chin idly, mulling it over without really knowing how to express it, cutting it off with a whole body shrug, eyes wide. He didn't really dwell much on the implications of what all he did and didn't do, it was more of a gut feeling kind of thing. Probably why he was a Hufflepuff and not a Ravenclaw. Getting hurt was unavoidable, it would be a shame to experience life less just because harm could come from it. In a way, healing was a way to cheat and do more reckless stuff! In another way, many of his worst memories were from his closeness to some traumatizing injuries. It wasn't a topic he was ready to weigh in on with any kind of nuance.

And he didn't have to, as the game promptly began! Keeping an eye on the Gryffindor team in particular, Kels' attention was drawn in like a tracking beacon. Quidditch was fast paced, even at the amateur level, and there was almost always something going on. For this game, the Beaters on the Gryffindor team were flexing their skills at one eagle in partcular. With a big 'ohhhh!' Kels gawked at the action. On the other side, the eagle Beaters were blatching and bludgering to no effect. Gryffindors were dodging the grief, but also not catching the Quaffle.

"There goes one now." There would be no note of sadness to his voice as he pointed at the falling student (just in case Marcus didn't see them). He pulled his attention away from the game to instead watch Marcus' expression. "How about you? You have a violent nature?"

The scene in the stands before the game even started was an absoute wreck. Flash had to use every ounce of patience he had to ignore all the loud children. The stands usually had a fight or two-- that wasn't unusual, actually. Why so quickly, though? He hoped at the very least that they would all have the decency to be beaten up and worn out by the time he wanted to pay attention to the game. As the start of the match commenced, he could tell Bridget wasn't going to be joining him. He wouldn't blame her of course, but he'd miss her presence. He hopefully would have enough to concentrate on with the game so as to not let other thoughts take over. Perhaps he could even throw a few spells of his own... no, wait, that was absolutely rediculous... Why do I always feel so irritated lately...

It was an introspective question that would recieve no answer, as his attention was drawn by a girl asking to sit beside him. Unfurling the arms crossed against his chest for warmth, he gestured to the seat, standing out of propriety.

"Of course, Miss Rose." He would sit back down alongside her. He knew he recognized her, she was certainly a Gryffindor duelist, but any grasp at a name would have failed him if she hadn't thankfully provided it. He had not watched any of her matches, but saw her upon the stage. "My name is Flash Holmwood. Is there a reason you chose to sit beside me?"

Flash presumed she did, there were plenty of other seats to take, though he did intentionally choose one with a good view towards the front. He didn't want to miss anything, or have anyone block his view. Thinking of that, he pulled out his binoculars for the occasion, listening to her reply and maintaining eye contact as he did so.

Regardless of what she said, when the match began, Flash wouldn't be able to do anything but glue his eyes on the players.

"You'll have to excuse me, I'm quite an avid fan." Flash said apologetically, still watching the game unfold quickly in a burst of action. "I'm a fan of dueling as well. You prefer that, I presume?"

For a first round, it was quite an explosive one. He couldn't say he knew anything about what Ravenclaw's team was like before, as he hadn't really had a reason to follow them until then. Gryffindor was noteably less aggressive, however, as they seemed to be more focused on protection than domination, as they had in the past. In fact, what exactly was Rafael doing? Taking his own self-perscribed penalty lap out of habit?

It was the Ravenclaw team that was on the offensive. Was it perhaps Sylvain's influence? He wouldn't know unless he asked, it looked like Syl wasn't going to participate on the field. They went for Rafael and Evelynn both, not a back idea at all, though it seemed the eagles weren't quite so sure on their wings yet, as both of the lions evaded instead.

As for the Quaffle, Alan, Anastasia, and Piérre were all working towards securing goals for Gryffindor, but even all together they weren't a match for the Ravenclaw Chaser who still nabbed it twice for a free goal at Piérre's once again unmanned post. Such a strange choice, it seemed he rarely stayed in his own lane, almost predictably so.

"Would you happen to know who that is?" Flash asked Rose, a bit sheepishly. He really should know all the players by now, but he just didn't. "She looks familiar, was she a prefect...?"

At that point, he raised the binoculars to his face to see the finer detail-- namely, the Seekers. As they flew around dodging waves of attacks during a game, it would be difficult for most to pinpoint the moment they were on to something. Even more, they could feign catching on to something to distract the other team. Looking between the two of them though, he couldn't help but feel a thrill rise up from the pit of his stomach. They were looking in the same direction. He tried to see what they saw-- had they caught sight of the snitch already? Both of them? If so, that was extraordinary. Even just the idea of it brought an unprecidented excitement onto his features. Most matches were tense, or even brutal, but if it was a race to the snitch from round one... that would be riveting. He held his breath, waiting for some kind of sign, something in their faces.

As he sent the boy flying off down the stands towards where he had originated from, Zykeal couldn't help a little smirk crawl upon his features. Although he didn't want to be put in the situation at hand, it seemed inevitable when those who had no respect, showed disrespect towards people he cared about. It wasn't as if he came to the match looking for a fight, he truly came to support his close friend, but, Zykeal drew the line when people talked badly behind others' backs.

This was no game for the young second-year, his friendships, few and far between were something that he took pride in, even, cherished. As he watched in slow motion the boy flying, he did hope the kid didn't break anything; he didn't need that kind of 'heat' on his head at the moment. Knowing though who was in the vicinity, he knew this encounter wouldn't be unnoticed. It seemed though as the boy was fine though as his golden eyes watched the kid interact with the other that disrespected his friend. Was this all a joke to them? The filthy firsties might have found the wrong opponent to jest towards if that was the case.

Regardless, the movement of the giant was noticed and his peripherals caught the attention of Ami. This was not unexpected at all, she often meddled in his affairs and he figured retribution would be incoming. As she approached, he also noticed the 1st-year making his way back up towards himself and a heavy sigh escaped him as he leaned himself back against the bench once more. The twirl of his wand begun once again, rotating through his fingers effortlessly, the tic needed to be scratched after all.

The boy had beat the prefect to him and once again extended his hand, but, he paid no attention to the kid as his own eyes were set on the hulking Hufflepuff who made her way towards him. The only words he offered to the kid was a simple, "Shoo," and a little jut of his chin away from the confrontation that was about to occur. When Ami did reach him finally, he just looked up at her towering figure as she stood above him, chastising him for his actions and like all other Huffles he knew, blindly casting blame.

Obviously, she needed to make her own statement. With her action to pour a hot coffee upon him, he wouldn't even give her the satisfaction of flinching; despite how painful the scalding beverage was as it hit him. Thankfully, he was adorning enough protection with his hoodie to avoid his face being burned to bits. Most annoyingly though, the coffee seemed to soak through his black hoodie after a moment and caused a little shiver to run its course throughout his body. Taking his free hand, he'd wipe the side of his cheek where some of the liquid had dripped down the side of his hood. With the coffee residue upon his fingers, he'd just take the fingers and decide to clean them by licking the coffee off.

Nothing would be said to Ami, or Thomas if he accompanied her. This was expected, and, he had probably deserved it for his rash actions. Zykeal wasn't much of a talker when it came to confrontations, it didn't make any sense, he wouldn't be some typical monologue that beat around the bush instead of taking action. As he didn't deem Ami's actions worth a reaction, but, the little Pride seemed to think her actions were praise-worthy. Those golden hues shifted slowly from the Prefect over towards the creature before him, "You are pathetic," he offered, directly stating it to the kid. Maybe now he could focus upon the match at hand.

After witnessing his red-head elder in a fit of rage one day, and her greatest fear on another, the pair were due for some comedic relief. Thomas could only hope this afternoon would remain peaceful, dampening the many hostilities that riddle his daily life. Something about Ami made her less bothersome than the majority of their peers. Of course it did not excuse her entirely, the girl's outspoken tendencies still tread on the line of annoyance. Though there was a sense of comfort provided, perhaps her obvious attraction to girls as made clear with her advances on Erin Ryan. Her taste may be awful, but at least Thomas could take comfort she would never execute Tyrannic attacks to rob his innocence.

There was more to it than this, after witnessing her experience with a boggart there was relatability between them. Perhaps misinterpreted, given the transformation that took place, leaving Thomas with a uncomfortable side-eye in the direction of Mr.Alexander when the two crossed paths. It allowed Ami's status on a very short list of tolerated peers, at least for now. Then she addressed him.

Tommothy

Never mind, off the list, he hated her. "No." Even if not as bad as Erin's favored "Tommy", the boy would shake his head in rejection of the name. She would follow up with a remark of his consistent appearance of a melodramatic depressed boy. That's better. "Superi-- Thomas yielded a gentle sigh, opting not to waste his breath on topics that may be too advanced for the Hufflepuff.

Procoppio went on to reject the bonbons, citing her status as a...vegan. A diet of champions, perhaps a fond admiration for the best tennis star in the world. A nibble of a date, a leaf of kale, and a sip of water. Vegans really are superior to the rest of us. Ami, however, did not possess the frame of a vegan, no typical protein deficiency here. Far too muscular, unless she engulfed eight scoops of pea-protein a day, Thomas deemed this as no more than another episode of: Chronicles of Ami: Prince Cappin'.

"Newly vegan?" Thomas inquired with judgy blue eyes peering over, simultaneously catching a visual of her noted infatuation for Miss Severin. A rant would ensue that left Thomas with a cringe glare past Ami as she carried on, taking comfort in the dream scenario he could leap off the stands and escape the continuation of this conversation. But no, she would continue on leaving Thomas with a wide eyed glare past her, now visualizing bashing his head upon a nearby banister.

"But thanks for the coffee" Amidst his fantasized escape of this topic, Ami had deftly acquired his coffee from a levitating charm. The boy was not opposed to her acquiring his beverage, please anything to shut her up. Though the process to follow was equally agonizing to witness. As if she was at a winery, the girl examined his coffee carefully. First, the sniff, then she would take a sip and swish it to extract the notes of a standard black coffee. Not some Ethiopian blend with hints of dark chocolate and cherry, simply a folgers-esque blend.

"Keep it." As Thomas spoke, a thud came from their rear, a row or so behind a pair of students appeared engaged in a scuffle. Ami announced her intended intervention, leaving Thomas with another impatient sigh. Given his responsibility as a prefect, he felt obligated to tag along and ensure the Huffle did not escalate the conflict further.

So Thomas followed Ami to the scene of a recently launched Slytherin first year, who like a typical Slytherin, seemed quite pleased with his status as a victim, joining the masochists of Slytherin in a line as long as a console launch day at Best Buy. Ami proceeded to address the Gryffindor boy standing over him in a horrifying waste of the boy's coffee she acquired moments ago. "My coffee.." Thomas muttered to himself in horror.

After a few moments to process the wasted coffee, Thomas' eyes would flicker from the two boys engaged in conflict. "Did we get our fill, then?" The rare role of mediator being played by Lestrange, eager to return to his seat and document a game he's tasked with analyzing. Though the Gryffindor did not share the intention to move on, issuing another verbal barb at a young Slytherin. With a smirk, Thomas came towards the side of his housemate[Matthias Pride]. "Let him have it. A Lion's ego is as large as his appetite--it will take some time before it's fed properly." Thomas would then motion the Slytherin to return to his seat, hoping he would appease this request.

Rose shrugged, sitting down on the seat next to him. "Not any reason in particular. I was fairly sure you're a second year, as we have some classes together. You just looked friendly enough and I didn't wanna sit alone." She tucked her hands under her legs to keep them warm. In this longer response, he would be able to detect her American accent, still enunciated perfectly and with no hindrance to his understanding of her words but said in a different way, a little more casually.

"And..." Rose cocked her head, trying to find the right words for this. "I might be crazy, but I think you were Anastasia Beckett's date to the ball before my date confronted her about something and they went to go solve the ghost thingy." Leaving them both completely ditched by their dates unintentionally. Rose wondered if Anastasia Beckett was actually dating anyone, which if it was Flash, she felt bad for him. Rose would keep any bias out of her voice, as she didn't want to start a fight with Flash. He was a nice person. "That was a strange night," she commented with a little laugh, trying to brush off the awkwardness that her earlier remark about him being left at the ball. Not only had that been a strange night, but it had been really disappointing. Rose had been looking forward to an evening of romance and fun, dancing and enjoying the company of her boyfriend. Letting their hair down and letting loose. And then he had never come back for her, which had hurt. But she told herself it wasn't his fault. It was all Anastasia's fault for dragging him off.

Still. She wished he had put up more of a fight to come back to her.

As the players kicked off and the game began, both of their gazes turned to the Quidditch pitch, Rose taking in what was happening. The game started off strong. A blonde older girl scored twice past the Gryffindor keeper, but it wasn't like the lions weren't putting up a fight. Another older guy threw the Quaffle through the rings that Ravenclaw was meant to be protecting. Scarlett and her beater partner were making quick damage to several players, knocking out one of her fellow-second years already with both bludgers and hitting another Ravenclaw she recognized as her classmate and kind acquaintance Aly Salinger, to which Rose winced. They really were talented and very good at their positions. Scarlett deserved that place on the team. Neither of the Ravenclaw beaters seemed to hit their targets. She wasn't sure whether the seekers had seen their target in this game either.

It was funny, actually. Most sports in the muggle world had one objective and almost everyone was fighting for that objective. Take basketball, for example. Everyone is trying to get the ball in the hoop. But in Quidditch, everyone was all doing different things, making it a lot more chaotic to watch than some muggle games. The beaters were doing their own thing over here while the seekers looked for the snitch while the chasers tried to score goals while the keepers were trying to stop the other team from scoring goals. It was fairly simple, but a lot more complex.

Rose shook her head. "No, don't worry about it. I am too." Flash mentioned dueling, and guessed that she liked that better than Quidditch. Actually, Rose wasn't sure anymore. She had pretty much bombed her last two duels and was feeling really discouraged about dueling. All it seemed to be was her getting up on a platform so everyone could watch her getting her butt kicked, which wasn't fun. Yeah, it was fun practicing and being on a team with other duelists, but no, it was not fun getting her butt kicked every time she even tried. And she tried her hardest, too. At least she had been good at flying. Flying had been fun and had come easy to her. It was exhilarating, and she hadn't been knocked out on a broom so far. She actually wasn't sure where her loyalties lay between whether she liked dueling or Quidditch better. Quidditch was sure fun to watch, at least.

But Rose nodded in response anyway, giving Flash a very generic response. "Yeah." She supposed maybe she should carry on the conversation, so she asked him, "What about you? I thought I've seen you in Quidditch games, but which do you like more?" He had asked her, so why not ask him as well?

Wait, how did he know she was a duelist?

Rose's stomach twisted as she realized he could have watched her duels before, which would be extremely embarrassing. It would look like she had no skill in spellcasting at all, which was what she thought of herself in regard to dueling anyway. "How did you know I was a duelist?" she asked him casually, not externally showing any of her thoughts about him seeing her as less than. She wondered if he had seen her duels or if he had heard about them, or if he had been told by somebody else who had seen her.

This was the point in just meeting that two people would be sizing each other up, and Rose was doing that. Flash seemed very friendly but almost formal in his responses and questions, calling her "Miss Rose" (which barely anybody had done in her life, and felt different to hear) and asking her to "excuse him" for being an "avid" fan and which she "preferred." Which was alright with her, but she wondered if he had grown up in a more prestigious family or if he just liked talking like that. Sometimes the way you talk is more than your accent. It's the words you choose, too, and what order you put them in.

Flash then asked her about someone on the pitch. Rose cocked her head, unsure. Even though it was not expected of her, she hadn't memorized everyone's names in the entire school, Quidditch players or not, and she did feel kind of bad letting him down like that. "The blonde Chaser? I don't think so, I'm not a very social person. We definitely do not have any classes with her, she looks older, maybe fifteen." Neither knew her name, but she looked kind of familiar, like Rose had seen her around school at some point in time. She was a Ravenclaw, as was obvious. If Flash was a Quidditch player like she thought he was, was he wondering if she would be any danger to his next game, which would be Slytherin up against Ravenclaw? "She does look like fierce competition, though. Why do you ask?"

Sorry for being incredibly busy @Zykeal Lane
There was power in loss. In defeat and in shame. More than there was in being the last one standing. There were untapped resources, human resources. What was Mathias seen as? Oh, that was simple -- he was seen as weak and incapable, foolish and perhaps friendly to a flaw. He was some of those things quite possibly, but nobody asked the right question.

What did he lose here? Pride? It was already in his name, there was no losing his Pride. Ha! Zykeal was seen as a bully, a what fourth? No, second year but he looked significantly older, had sent a first year flying. For shame, and in full view of his peers.

The bystander phenomenon was in full-swing. Most of the students remained onlookers, either passively allowing the incident to transpire unhindered or pretending nothing had happened at all. The one exception was what drew his interest, not Zykeal's brash actions, his fragile ego and his manly exhibition. The damage to the boy's reputation, if he had any, would be marked by the incident.

He had learned a great deal this day. The friends one keeps reflect the man. If merely words, passively stated were enough to rouse such ire and aggression... the rumors were indeed true. "The girl was right," Mathias concluded out loud. His extended hand denied, he was not launched a second time across the stands but he would have accepted the outcome had it come to it. Mathis would thrust his hands into his pockets, not that he needed the confined of his woolen jacket to keep out the cold, he was used to winter's chill.

The edges of Mathias' lips tugged downward as he glanced back at the castle. Her defense of the damsel (Matt) was appreciated, but then life would go on.

"You are pathetic."

"Surely," he agreed. "But, you aint too bright if you choose to stay here in soaking attire," he unbuttoned his own jacket. Zykeal was taller but they were close to the same size in dimensions besides vertical. Perhaps his sensitive ego would take offense to the statement about his intelligence even if it was a passing comment identifying behavior more than a personal attack. Mathias was wearing a simple dark green knitted sweater with a white dress shirt beneath, a black belt with brass buckle and a pair of simple, pleated black slacks. Casual was not in his lexicon. The clothes were not warm enough for this weather, but enough to return to the castle in. "Enjoy the game," Mathias announced. "I am sure we will meet again."

Accepted or not, the coat would be left in his arms or on the ground in front of him. He saw everything he needed to see on this day, an assessment of human potential and probability. He learned everything he needed to know on this day.

Everly's hands were growing colder. She grasped both hands and shivered slightly, the wind causing her to squint. At Cade's mention of the train ride at the start of term, she let out a snort of exasperation, causing a small puff to escape her lips. "And that went well," she said with a hint of irritation, remembering the cowboys and fire. "At least we're still alive," she said off-handedly, her attempt at joking.

It wasn't going too well.

It was the crash of a body that caused her to turn. She didn't recognize neither the caster or the boy who'd fallen. First she felt sympathy, then upon hearing his and Valencia's reaction, amusement. Valencia referred to him as "Pride", and with the assumption that the name was from a snotty pure-blood family, smirked at him. "Was that your first time attempting to be charming?" It really made Everly cringe to think about things like this - the girl was only eleven, if anything. "I dunno, what is it like to kiss a hag?" Everly wondered aloud at Cade's words. "Not that I want to kiss you," she said, wrinking her nose at the boy. She watched the rest of the exchange then turned back around.

"Who the heck is he, anyway?" Everly asked, snorting. The incident was amusing if anything to the girl, either way, she didn't know what was going on with the boy, Valencia, and the older boy who'd cast the spell. Surely they had an ounce of logic in them.

Cade nodded as Everly remarked that they were lucky to be alive. "I suppose Hogwarts is never left without adventures. I'm just glad everyone has recovered well." The Ravenclaw smiled and turned back to get a view of the pitch.

As Mathias Pride slunk away, Cade heard Everly snort at him. Cade raised a quizzical brow. "Only someone having a pretty rough time of it. I thought he was decent until he started challenging people. I dunno what's gotten into him." the first year shrugged before drinking more tea. It was already starting to get cold.

As the match finally came to a start, Cade watched eagerly as the chasers flew into action, a wild cacophony of red and blue athletes whizzing past. At first, things were looking quite good for Ravenclaw, quickly gaining twenty points for the house team, but just as Cade grew excited, Gryffindor got their minds together and evened the score, even surpassing the Eagles. Cade was actively cheered and complained at all the different events. Though he did not personally know some players, he was beginning to get to know them through their skill on the pitch.

"C'mon Birds!" Cade muttered his fingers crossed.

Quidditch: Ravenclaw v Gryffindor Spectators
Flash couldn't help but feel suspicious to hear her reasons. She didn't want to be alone, so she sat by one of the most popular boys of her year? Then again, it was foolish to think that everyone cared about who knew who. In the end, there were many people who were having a completely normal school experience, not trying to make connections and climb ladders. It only hurt his pride... a little bit. It was made stranger when she continued, saying it was her date that had pulled Anastasia aside at the Masquerade. While his face had been mostly inattentive to that point, that made him look over with raised brows.

"Your date was the one who took Anastasia aside?" He asked, letting the thought ruminate in his head. It was an unpleasant memory to suddenly return to the forefront of his mind. The evening had started out so wonderfully, as she had been a surprisingly amazing dancer. After only one dance, however she disappeared. Flash didn't intrude, and instead became wrapped up in his own personal drama. He hadn't even thought to ask her about what had happened. "It was a strange night... though that ghost had been planned. An entertaining diversion for our guests. Do you... happen to know what they were talking about?"

He couldn't just pass up the opportunity to learn pertinent information when it was right in front of him. Anastasia was his concern, after all, despite their relationship being mostly professional. He had let the event be assumed in his mind-- that she was simply bored. It might have had something to do with this date of Roses' though.

Watching the game alongside her, he was thankful that she was similarly interested. He wouldn't have to get distracted like he did in his own game the day before. His compatriots on the bench with him had not been as attentive, but rather set on dredging up pointless arguments. There was very little that irked Flash more than being distracted from something he wanted to pay attention to. Her response was surprisingly devoid of emotion. When he had asked Bridget the same thing, she had struggled with her love of both, but had conviction in her choice of dueling. Rose didn't seem nearly as sure, and hadn't even attempted to justify her answer. Strange.

"It's never been a question for me, I'm very fond of Quidditch." Flash's answer was similarly deadpan, but the lack of a pause would show his conviction. "I used to play football before, I enjoy more physical sports. I have never been a very confident caster, though. Magic still feels very new to me."

Perhaps it was more information than he would normally share with a stranger, especially given that it illuminated a weakness of his, but it seemed fairly harmless. He was still young, and his focus on study had been towards earning a perfect grade more than practical application. He was trying to get better at it, especially given how dangerous life at Hogwarts had proven to be, but he would sooner rely on his strength than his wand in a tight spot. Perhaps the specificity would encourage Rose to share her own thoughts. That was the idea behind pleasant conversation, after all.

"I spectate the duels, they're quite entertaining." Flash gave another deadpan answer, not belaying any emotion even though he purported to be enthused about the subject. "I tend to focus on the matches my friends are in, so I can't say I've seen how yours have played out. I know Gryffindor had a difficult first round, though."

Watching the game, there had been a continuance of quite a few violent plays. Gryffindor was trying to subdue the Ravenclaw Seeker River with all their might, but also managed to get three goals in the meantime, one even achieved by Evelynn. His first sign of actual emotion would be the impressed, perhaps proud expression he wore when watching Evelynn play. Anastasia on the other hand seemed to currently be waiting for something that wasn't coming. She was an impressive flier in her own right, even being instrumental in winning the last game they had, but seemed to struggle to find her purpose in this one. The whole thing felt a bit like Ravenclaw trying to scrape a victory out from underneath the oppressive lions. They certainly weren't lost yet.

"I'm sorry, I should really study the roster myself..." Flash answered her question, his words laced with light shame. "It's important to know the competition, of course."

Mentioning: Anastasia Beckett, Eyre Reeves
Agh, why had she mentioned that? It could only end in Flash being suspicious or questioning her real intentions of coming over here. Honestly, her first reasons were the real reasons. Why had she blurted out that last part about Anastasia Beckett? Mentioning her in conversations always seemed to make things awkward or just plain horrible. He asked her that it was her date that had pulled his own aside. Rose nodded in response, not wanting to say anything else to ruin this encounter. But then Flash asked what they had been talking about.

As far as Rose knew? After Anastasia Beckett had purposely tripped her, Eyre went to confront her about it, and then was dragged away. But, of course, she could be totally and completely wrong and they could have been talking about something really deep or confessed love to one another or... pretty much anything. Rose hadn't been close enough to hear, and this was one of the few things she would consider eavesdropping on. And how was she even supposed to know that Anastasia tripping her had really been on purpose? Sure, there was something off about her behavior after that, so sweet and apologetic compared to snarling at her on the grounds and ruthlessly cutting Eyre up. But Rose had not imagined the insults that the third year had wormed into the apology, and though the whole thing had caught her off guard, Eyre seemed to know with confidence that Anastasia Beckett had meant to do it. She trusted Eyre.

But what was she supposed to tell Flash? The truth might make him tentative towards Anastasia, which she kind of deserved, or he might not believe Rose. Her lying... well, she wouldn't lie to Flash. She wasn't fake or plastic like Anastasia was. She had actual morals that she stuck to. And there was no good reason she shouldn't tell Flash the truth.

"I can't be completely sure, but I think Eyre pulled her aside because she tripped me. And I'm pretty sure it was on purpose. They had a lot of drama back in the fall, and- well, Eyre said he wouldn't let her get away with that," she answered, only after a second of thinking over which words to use. "But that's all I know- the rest was between them." She wanted to think that she nailed it, but she wouldn't know until Flash responded.

The redhead nodded. Magic was still very new to him? Her first thought was that he was a muggle-born, or at least, he had grown up with Muggles. But that wasn't fair- any second year had only harnessed magic for less than a year and a half. There were some times that Rose still was awed at magic and what it could do, and that it was all so new to her. And there were areas of magic she still didn't know about, which was crazy cool. Well, if he was going to be vulnerable about that little bit of information, then she might as well tell her the reasoning behind all the Quidditch-Dueling conflict inside her. "I dunno, I used to be really obsessed with Quidditch. Last year. I wanted to get on the team so bad. And then, I guess..." she looked away from him, training her eyes on the game. "I guess I just got scared. There were so many people that were so much better than me at the game, and- I was just scared of getting my butt kicked. I kind of ended up doing that anyway with dueling, though." She glanced to the boy next to her bashfully. "I know that's pathetic, but it's true." And now she wasn't sure which one she liked better, because she liked dueling when she wasn't getting her butt kicked (which was almost never), but she never really had the chance to do Quidditch. She gave up on it right when it was in reach. But it still scared her.

Flash said he was aware that the Gryffindors had pretty much failed their first round, though he said it in nicer words. "Yeah, we had a hard time." Rose bobbed her head in understanding and confirmation.

"That is important," The lioness agreed. "Maybe I should do that as well." Rose hadn't studied the people on the other teams in dueling, or looked at their duels, studying them. Maybe she should, though. It would make her more prepared for the duels. Not that it might change what happened, anyway.

The game went on. The beaters were doing well, mostly targeting the seekers. But both seekers managed to stay on brooms, being saved by their teammates. Quidditch was a violent game. The Gryffindor chaser scored twice, as the keeper didn't seem to care that he was leaving an open goal. What was he doing anyway? The game was going well, progressing fast.

To continue the conversation, Rose asked, "Are you rooting for a team in particular? Or are you just spectating?" If the lions weren't playing, then Rose would be impartial, save for wanting her friends on the team to not die, but if the Gryffindors were playing, Rose just had to root for them and want them to win.
