Underestimated Anxiety PV Finished

(Sarafina/Fina, Alastair/Al, and Cynthia, these people know who they are by the way, if you wish to be added, send me an owl and I will add you to this)

Verla was slightly relaxed when she sat at the end of the dock, swinging her legs slightly as Oliver hummed a tune to her. She was alone for now, and she didn't mind, besides Oliver of course. He needed to go out and hunt for his meals for the next week, she decided that every week when she could, she would just come out to the lake, and sit by herself and do nothing but think while Oliver went hunting for his weekly meals, which she would take care of for him. He agreed it was good too.

However, when he came back, she decided to keep sitting there and enjoy the scenery, and it was a good scene.

As she decided to sit there for the rest of the day, with no classes and all her homework done, there was a splash near the water by her, she yelped thinking it was a mermaid or fish or some other creature, and took her feet from the edge and walked back off the dock to solid land.

Sarafina saw Verla and ran to catch up to her. The sky was beautiful and cloudless, and the lake was filled with brilliant, shimmering, various shades of blue. It took her a while to stop staring at the landscape and walk up to Verla. She loved nature and felt peaceful and calm when she was in it. It almost felt like nothing bad could happen. She knew that wasn't true, but liked the idea.
"Hey. Nice day," she said, looking around once more. "So, are we going to discuss what to do, or go talk to someone. If the Headmaster is unavailable to talk to, we should try the head of Hufflepuff. We need to tell someone, whether it's in person or we send a letter. I think doing it in person would be better so you can get their reply right away, but it's up to you. I know we both hate talking to people, me adults most of all, so it's your choice," she finished, smiling at how much she had talked. She didn't mess up! She guessed she was really feeling comfortable with Verla. She trusted Verla to choose what she wanted to do. She knew that whatever they did, wherever this took them, they would be doing it together.

"You're right, we should tell the head of Hufflepuff, I can try and write to them when we meet them. And it is a nice day out here. I wish I could be here all the time, let all my worries go away. Maybe when no one else is around, we could practice our magic here. We should send an owl to let the head of Hufflepuff know we're coming before we surprise him. Maybe he'll know what to do" she agreed with Fina. Fina was a smart girl, and kind. The combination of both was hard to find. "Could I ask you something strange?"

Oliver came out and began to scream at her in her head, and then looked at Fina began to scream at her in her head too Don't you dare take my companion from me! I'll-I'll.... I'll put bugs in your bed until you two are no long friends! Verla picked him up and said "I'm not replacing you Oliver! I would never do that. Go blow off some steam while me and Fina figure things out okay?" she placed Oliver down and he stomped off into the woods to see his own friends.

"I'm sorry if he comes off scary, he just doesn't know what he wants anymore, I don't think I do either" she said politely to her, hoping she still wanted to be friends.

Sarafina nodded.
"Sounds good. I bet he will know what to do. And it does seem like a great place to practice magic." She suddenly jumped as Oliver began screaming in her head.
"Don't you dare take my companion from me! I'll-I'll.... I'll put bugs in your bed until you two are no long friends!" She laughed.
"You don't need to worry Oliver, I won't steal Verla away. You'll always be her number one companion," she smiled.
"I'm not replacing you Oliver! I would never do that. Go blow off some steam while me and Fina figure things out okay?" Verla said. Sarafina smiled at Oliver as he angrily stomped away.
"He's got a strong personality," she laughed.
""I'm sorry if he comes off scary, he just doesn't know what he wants anymore, I don't think I do either," Verla said.
"It's fine," Sarafina replied. "What I got out of that is he's afraid he'll lose friendship with you, or that you'll focus so much on someone else he'll kinda disappear from you," she said. She thought that was probably what was going on, but there might be more.

Fina was right. "I'll make sure that wont happen, and he does have a strong personality" she giggled. After experiencing the fire, Verla kept wondering things. She took her hand, thought of fire, and acted like she threw something into the lake, when she actually threw fire. "This is so weird" she said and looked at her hands. After getting a D in her flying class, she needed to blow off steam. She asked Oliver to scout the area, and when it was clear, she made a huge fire ball ahead of her and threw it down into the water, letting out a little yell as she did. Throwing a fire ball took so much energy, she was glad that she could now get her anger out, not that she had much.

When she had gotten an owl back for her parents, they wrote that they didn't know what was wrong and to not come home during breaks. They wanted nothing to do with her anymore since she had fire powers now. She showed Fine the letter.

Dearest Verla:
We do not know where you got this power, you will have to ask your grams. Your father and I have spoken, and we think it's safe if you don't come home, ever. We love to the bottom of our hearts, we're not safe with you around anymore. One day, you'll understand.

"I'll make sure that wont happen, and he does have a strong personality," Verla had said back. Sarafina smiled.
"Yeah." She jumped back as Verla made a throwing motion and fire hit the surface of the lake. She stared in shock. "That was...cool! But dangerous." She then wondered if she could do that too. She wanted to be more controlled with hers. She put her hand in front of her and faced her palm towards the sky. She then thought about a small flame and how fire sounded. Suddenly a flame appeared in her hand. She thought about Oliver and suddenly it took that shape. A tiny flame in the shape of Oliver danced in her hand. She smiled at what she had accomplished. She closed her fist and the fire went out. "I want to try something," she muttered. She knelt down close to the lake and laid her hand on the top of the water. She thought of more fire, imagining the water as a grassy field. She gasped as it spread across the lake, covering almost the entire thing. "This shouldn't be possible!" she said. She looked at the flaming lake. Surely someone would see that in the castle by now. The thought scared her, and as suddenly as it started, the fire disappeared, leaving her sitting exhausted at the edge of the lake.

She looked shocked at Fina and helped her from away the lake and against a tree. She made an entire lake a fire field! "How did you do that?" She exclaimed.

She began to think of her letter again and she began to look sad and began crying, trying not to she asked "are you alright? Do you need help?" she asked as a tear fell down her face, though she didn't seem to notice. This was getting weirder and weirder. Maybe their powers were growing. They had to be extra careful not to burn someone or burn the whole school. What if someone saw it? They had to get out of there "we need to go, someone could've seen that from the castle and be on their way down here, Oliver says theirs a short cut off the trail we can take." She said.

Verla was worried, and so was Ollie. She heard shouting "is anybody there?" She froze.

"We've got to go now!" she whispered and lifted Fina off the ground and put an arm around her neck to help her walk. There were torches coming, she quickly moved to behind some thick trees, hoping no one would see them.

Sarafina sat there shocked, and she could tell Verla was shocked too. Verla helped her sit against a tree instead of the lake's edge.
"How did you do that?" Verla asked.
"I-I don't know!" she said. She looked up and saw Verla crying.
"Are you alright? Do you need help?" Verla asked her. Then she said, "we need to go, someone could've seen that from the castle and be on their way down here, Oliver says there's a short cut off the trail we can take."
"I'm fine. Yeah, we should get going. But what's wrong?" she asked. Suddenly she heard someone in the distance.
"Is anybody there?" Sarafina's eyes widened with fear. She knew someone had seen!
"We've got to go now!" Verla whispered. Sarafina nodded. Verla helped her up and they ran behind a grove of thick trees, hoping no one would see them. Whoever that was didn't seem friendly, and they sure as heck didn't want to get caught. Sarafina was not planning on getting caught or expelled this soon into the year. She could tell something was troubling her friend. She wanted to help, but wasn't sure how. Maybe she was just scared too? It didn't seem like that was it.

After a bit, they left and Verla came out from the trees when she was sure that no one stayed behind. Then she crouched down and curled into a ball and stared at the lake. "My parents don't want me any more" she answered her question about what was wrong. She hid her face and silently began to cry. Oliver hugged her leg with a sad face, trying to comfort her. She felt like she wanted to disappear. Where was she supposed to go during breaks? She couldn't stay at Hogwarts the entire Summer break.

Maybe she could make some friends who could do it. Maybe the school could force them to take her. Maybe she could get the ministry involved. She was basically an orphan now that her parents threw her out of their lives. What was she supposed to do? She stared at the lake and got an idea, but she immediately wiped it out of her head. "What am I going to do?" she whispered to her self and began to sob out loud. She couldn't move, but she was cold and tired. She was afraid that if she went to her room, she wouldn't come back out.

They finally came out from behind the trees and Verla answered her question about what was wrong.
"My parents don't want me any more," she said. Sarafina felt her heart break when Verla started crying. She hugged her.
"I'm so sorry. I want to say I know what you're going through but I don't. It must feel horrible. You didn't do anything wrong. I don't know why anyone would just give up their children like that." Her voice broke on the last word, as she thought back to her own parents. All she had left of them was a ripped picture that explained nothing. They had abandoned her at a young age, but she was just old enough to understand what was going on. She didn't remember them now, for that was four years earlier. "I hardly remember my own parents," she said, wiping a tear of her own. "But what you're going through must be worse. It's hard to miss something you never had," she finished. She was going to help Verla through it. They needed each other, and also had bigger things going on at the moment. Either way they needed each other. Anything they were going to do, they would be doing it side by side.
