Hey everyone! Welcome to the first post in the new series that follows the adventure of The Quadriheximals. For some background on the awkwardness between me and Jenny, read the thread "The Picnic Lunch" between me and Jenny at the great lake. Have Fun!
Kayden strolled across the grounds, book in hand. He plopped down onto the grass, by the lake. It was a beautiful morning, and the breeze ruffled his hair slightly. Kayden was still a little bit depressed after yesterday night, but coming down here was a good way to relieve his stress. He saw a strawberry lying on the ground, supposedly from yesterday.
Kayden immediately moved. He propped open the book and began reading, splashing of water. He looked towards the lake and saw the giant squid poke his head out. Kayden could have sworn that it gave him a disapproving look.
"What? What do you want?"
Kayden might have been going crazy, but he was pretty sure that it rolled its singular eye before it dived back into the murky depths.
Kayden sighed then got back to reading. He whispered the words to himself, trying to drown out any memories of last night.
A squirrel scurried up to him and jumped on his chest. Kayden smiled and scratched the furry animal's head. It began pawing at the book in his hands, and Kayden had to lightly get it to stop.
"Hey, stop. Seriously, chill."
The squirrel ran away, and Kayden let out a groan of frustration.
That's two cute friends that have run away from him in the past week.
He heard footsteps.

It was the day after Jenny ran off on Kayden. She messed up and she knew it. It wasn't a dramatic scene where a girl and a boy find out they don't belong and then they are forever lonely, no. It was just Jenny panicking and running off. That didn't give the message she wanted. She did like Kayden, and was overjoyed that he liked her too. She decided maybe she would go outside and play the violin. Get some sun. Maybe she would do some yoga while out there. Yeah, that was a good idea.
Violin and yoga mat in hand, she made her way outside. She wore black yoga leggings and a green yoga jacket over a white tank top. Her hair was tied back into a ponytail. She eyed a strawberry from last night on the ground as a bird came and picked it up. She decided she would choose somewhere else to go. She decided to start her practice as she walked. She took deep breaths. She looked around and noted everything she saw, felt, heard, and smelled.
Felt:
The wind, the cold, the wet grass.
Heard:
The movement of the water in the lake, laughing kids, birds.
Smelled:
Nature (Yes, you can smell that)
Saw:
The sun, clouds, and... Kayden.
She drew a breath. Her legs decided to keep walking. "Um, hey."

Violin and yoga mat in hand, she made her way outside. She wore black yoga leggings and a green yoga jacket over a white tank top. Her hair was tied back into a ponytail. She eyed a strawberry from last night on the ground as a bird came and picked it up. She decided she would choose somewhere else to go. She decided to start her practice as she walked. Kayden was just turning the pages when he heard footsteps.
"Um, hey."
He wasn't sure how to act. Was he to play it cool, act like it never happened? Or was it his job to make the first move and apologize?
Kayden kept reading.
"Hi."
He was still hurt, and he didn't know who to blame. Himself? They were young, maybe making a move was his fault...
If they were muggle children, it would have been a different story. Eleven years old is just too young for one to be in a romantic relationship. However, Hogwarts was different.
It felt like when you had that hat put on your head, and you stood in front of the entire school, your innocence and childhood dies the moment you are sorted. Your new life has begun. It came with perks, but also a new sense of maturity and responsibility, and Kayden wasn't sure whether or not it was the greatest thing in the world that it came with a realization of your own feelings.
Because everyone slaughtered their childhood at different moments, so to speak.
He looked back up at Jennifer. "Sit down if you want. The grass is pretty soft."

Jenny bit her lip when Kayden didn't look at her.
Maybe she had overreacted. Now that she thought about it...
She wanted to kiss him. Maybe it was the fact that apparently, he wanted that too that surprised her. Hogwarts changed you, that was certain. She couldn't use the excuse that they were too young and innocent anymore. Everyone was mature now. She was snapped out of her thoughts as Kayden talked.
Finally, he was looking at her.
She didn't move. "I wanted to say sorry. About last night. It was- I just. I really like you, Kayden. Being with you makes me so happy. I want to be together, you have to believe me. I don't know what happened I guess I just panicked or something. Maybe it was the fact that you felt the same way that surprised me. I don't know. I wasn't thinking and I have no idea how that would make you feel... I know I can't say we're too young and innocent. We've all been forced to grow up so I know it's no excuse. "
Finally, she took a breath and she looked to her side at a butterfly flying by. She blinked her eyes a bit, as they started to water. She was overreacting again.
She walked to Kayden's side and gradually sat down, except not as close as she would prefer. She didn't know what terms they were on now. She started pulling pieces of grass.

I don't know what happened I guess I just panicked or something. Maybe it was the fact that you felt the same way that surprised me. I don't know. I wasn't thinking and I have no idea how that would make you feel... I know I can't say we're too young and innocent. We've all been forced to grow up so I know it's no excuse. "
He looked at her, then continued to turn pages.
She sat down next to him, not quite touching, but not exactly far from each other either.
He looked over at the lake.
The squid wasn't there.
He... he was on his own.
Funny, he'd looked over at the lake so many times, the giant squid felt like his wingman.
He scooted a little closer then rested his head in her lap.
"I... forgive you."
The wind rustled, and he saw the squid break the surface. He smiled. All was well.
He looked up at Jennifer.
"I'm sorry if I came on too strong."

She let out a huge sigh of relief. She smiled. "Thank goodness. I thought I ruined everything." He rested his head on her lap. "You didn't" She hurried to say. "Come on too strong, I mean. You did everything just perfectly. I wasn't paying attention, though so I was surprised. " She sighed. "I was too busy rewinding the words you said- that I was beautiful- in my head and then you leaned it. My thoughts were all: Ahh! So I just rolled away and Jumped up." She chuckled.
Now everything about today seemed perfect. Kayden wasn't mad at her- and they were on good terms. "I never got to say some things last night. I think you're the most amazing person I've ever met. When you smile at me, I feel butterflies which is a new feeling. When say something kind to me, my heart beats super fast. I've never felt this way before about someone. You make me feel happy."
It was true. Usually, she wanted to be sarcastic and rude and, well, snobby. That's who she was. But her brain just switched everytime he came into view.

" So no, you didn't come too strong at all. I owe you that. And something else, too." Her voice was a whisper. "I'm going to kiss you now." She planted a slight kiss on his cheek. There. She had done it. No turning back.

"I never got to say some things last night. I think you're the most amazing person I've ever met. When you smile at me, I feel butterflies which is a new feeling. When say something kind to me, my heart beats super fast. I've never felt this way before about someone. You make me feel happy."
He smiled and looked at her. For once, everything seemed to have regained a sense of normalcy. She continued talking for a little bit. Kayden tried to pay attention, but couldn't help noticing her sweet-smelling, chestnut-colored hair...
He loved being close to her, it felt right. He intertwined their hands and snuggled closer to her.
" So no, you didn't come too strong at all. I owe you that. And something else, too." Her voice was a whisper. "I'm going to kiss you now."
She then leaned down and kissed him on the cheek.
He smiled.
He nestled his head into her and smiled.
"I liked that."

She couldn't help but look away as her face turned pink. "Oh? Well at least you didn't roll away." She laughed. She nudged his head. "Now get up, you lazy badger. Your head is heavy." She rolled away with a laugh. She grabbed the book he had been reading. "What in the world are you reading?" She set it down.
The wind picked up, blowing strands that escaped from the ponytail into her face. "I had originally come out to do some yoga, maybe go for a run. Alone." She reached for his hands. "But..." She pulled him up with only a slight struggle making her thankful that she liked to stay fit. "I. Have. A. Better ideaaa!"
She smiled smugly. "Mr. Lind, how fast would you say you are?" She raised her eyebrows. "I bet you'd say you were pretty fast, yeah? And, Mr. Lind, do you think if we were to race, you would win?" She was playing her side now. She totally looked like she would be a pretty, petite girl. She was, sort of. But everyone saw the pretty girl and never expected her to be so fit. She likes to stay in shape. "Be honest, really."

The wind picked up, blowing strands that escaped from the ponytail into her face. "I had originally come out to do some yoga, maybe go for a run. Alone." She reached for his hands. "But..." She pulled him up with only a slight struggle making her thankful that she liked to stay fit. "I. Have. A. Better ideaaa!"
She smiled smugly. "Mr. Lind, how fast would you say you are?" She raised her eyebrows. "I bet you'd say you were pretty fast, yeah? And, Mr. Lind, do you think if we were to race, you would win?" Kayden stretched. Cracking his neck. He got up and looked over at Jennifer. "I bet you'd say you were pretty fast yeah?
Kayden shrugged with a smug smile on his face. "I have been known to dabble in the art of the race."
He stretched, then looked at her.
"Are you... challenging me? Surely not, as you must value your pride, because if it comes down to a test of speed, you are sure to lose."
He looked her in the eye. Everything felt better now. All the awkwardness was gone and replaced with a feeling of joy.
He was finally able to breathe. The wind whipped at his hair, and Kayden breathed it in. It smelled like happiness. He smiled, then looked at Jennifer with a lasting gaze.
"I'm afraid you asked for this Mrs. King." He said, then he gave her a sly grin.
"One two three go!" He yelled fast, then began sprinting across the grounds towards a distant tree. Even if she was faster, she wouldn't be able to catch up with him now. He looked back and saw her figure standing, disbelieving at his piece of trickery.
All was well. For now at least.

He took off. He assumed he got her. But no.
She didn't carry her sister around the garden in her arms every day at home for nothing. She didn't wake up early to go for a run for nothing. She didn't go to the gym every day at home for nothing. She didn't do yoga for nothing. She didn't eat heart-healthy cereal for a month for breakfast for nothing.
She didn't do any of that to lose to her maybe sort of kind of boyfriend. Oh, no no no no. HELL no.
I always abide by the rules- be careful what you wish for. I know exactly what I asked for." She yelled to the running figure. She started at full sprint, getting closer and closer. Closer to the bewildered expression on Kayden's face. It was cute. She laughed. She was at arm's length now. She couldn't help but laugh. "Cat got your tongue?"
She leaped forward with her arms outstretched. "Gotcha!" She wrapped her arms around him and the two went down together, rolling down the hill they were on.
"Woah!" She laughed as they rolled to a stop. "Okay I didn't see that coming, sorry." Her face was flustered.
