Let's find some creatures
Finally it was Saturday. Haley had been so impatient all the rest of the week and could hardly wait for today. She found it hard to fall asleep because of the excitement, but after waking up early in the morning, she wasn't the least bit tired. She tried not to wake the other girls and slipped into the bathroom. She took a warm shower and put on something comfortable and made her way to the Great Hall. With her she had her bag with a notebook and a small tin of wood lice she had collected the day before. It had taken her a while, but she was able to find some trees where she had found them.
She entered the great hall and there was little activity. Haley was awake incredibly early. She sat down at the empty Gryffindor table and started to eat some breakfast, flicking through her notebook on the side. She opened the pages with the notes she had jotted down from Phantastic Beasts and where to find them.ReducioShe still wasn't sure if they would find a boat that easily, but she didn't expect the boats to be stashed anywhere else after the first year students arrived. But she would find out soon enough and didn't give it a second thought. After she had finished breakfast, which took some time as she was engrossed in her book, the hall was filled with more students. She left the Gryffindor table and went out into the Courtyard.
A quick glance at the sky told her that today was not the most beautiful day for an outdoor adventure, but she would not let that stop her. Dark clouds stood over the grounds of Hogwarts but if they were lucky, the clouds would be carried on by the wind and they would be spared the rain. She turned her gaze forward again and made her way to the lake. This was where she and Mav had agreed to meet. She knew she would be there far too early but this way she would just enjoy some time alone and continue reading her book.
She knew that if she really made it to the island, she would not see any of the little creatures today, because they would be hiding in the tree, but this was the first day of the project to gain trust. She was confident and hoped that after a few tries they would be able to gain the trust of the tree guards.
Haley sat down on the jetty by the lake and let her legs hang down. She hadn't been to the lake for a long time and the last time was with her good friend Alina, who was no longer visiting Hogwarts. She missed her friend but was sure she was doing well at the new school. She took her book out of her bag and began to read. She listened to the wind and breathed in the fresh air while waiting for Mav.

Let's find some creatures
Maverick had woken up in very good mood that morning. Saturday had finally arrived which meant that he would meet up with Haley today. He did his best to quietly get changed and gather his stuff so he wouldn't wake anyone. He had changed into a plain grey sweater and pair of black jeans. He grabbed his book bag, stuffing his notes and books about magical creatures and bowtruckles in, as well as a small jar of woodlice he had collected. It had taken awhile to gather them and just find them but he had gathered a fair amount. With his bag on his shoulder, he went out of his common room and towards the meeting spot.
Breakfast was still going on but he wasn't feeling up to it so he decided just to skip it. He was far to excited to eat and wanted to get started on the adventure. He moved through the halls going through the groups of tired students, trying not to trip in fall because he really didn't want to start the day like that. Eventually he made it out to the grounds and made his way to the lake. He wondered if the Gryffindor girl would even be there yet but made his way to the meeting point.
Once he got closer, he could see a girl with long ginger hair reading and came to the conclusion that Haley was the girl. "Morning Haley," he said excitedly, smiling slightly. He tripped on his own feet but luckily caught himself before he could fall. "How are you doing today," he questioned, fixing his bag so it wouldn't fall off his shoulder.

Let's find some creatures
Haley tried to concentrate on her book but every time she started to read a sentence, her mind wandered and she thought about the day ahead. Again and again she pulled herself together and began to read the sentence from the beginning, but each time her thoughts wandered. After a while she gave up and just looked at the book and thought through the plan Maverick and she had made.
It wasn't long before she suddenly heard a familiar voice. She turned her head to the left and there she saw Mav walking in a grey sweater and black jeans. She was startled for a moment when he stumbled but let out a relieved sigh when he managed to save himself from falling. "Goooood morning my lovely friend." Hale quickly straightened up and a big smile formed on her lips. Even though they didn't have the perfect weather she was incredibly excited and looking forward to their adventure together with her new friend.
"I'm absolutely great. It is a wonderful day, isn't it? What about you?" She spoke in a happy and enthusiastic tone as she ran towards Maverick with little jumps. Her mood was clearly good and there seemed to be a cloud of joy and good humour floating around her.
She folded her arm in his and pulled him along behind her. "Come on Mav, we have an exciting day ahead of us." Her good mood was infectious and she let it lead her. She hoped she wasn't too much of a handful for Maverick and that he didn't find it annoying that she just intertwined her arm with his but to be sure she loosened that position and turned so she could look into his face, walking on backwards as she did so. "So I was thinking that we just go to where we left with the boats at the beginning of the year. I don't think they'll be stored anywhere else during the rest of the year."
She made a quick turn on her own axis until she was looking ahead again and followed the path to her next destination.

The Gryffindor girl had answered him and he watched as she happily made her way towards him. She asked him how he was so he answered, "I'm doing well."He could tell she was in a good mood and was taken by surprise when she wrapped her arms around his, dragging him along with her.
Maverick did his best to keep up and not fall behind until she let go and began walking backwards, he supposed this was so she could see him. She suggested that they should go where they had left the boats at the beginning of the year to see if they were there which he agreed with. He watched her quickly turn around and continued to follow her, hoping she knew where she was going.
"That sounds like a good idea. It would make sense that the boats would still be around there. If they aren't there though, I'm not sure where else they could be," he told the girl in front of him, walking faster in order to keep up. "Anyway, you're definitely in a good mood today which is good to see," he smiled slightly as he said this, quite excited himself, "I'm quite excited to see what the day has to bring as well." He wasn't really expecting to see many bowtruckles today or any at all if they did get to the island. He wasn't going to let that bother him to much though, they were only first years so they had plenty of time to get close to the bowtruckles.

Let's find some creatures
Haley's enthusiasm was great and she radiated a lot of good humour on this dreary day. She skipped along the path, laughing and listening to Maverick as he spoke to her. He had just voiced her thoughts about the boats and she nodded to him in agreement, "Mav, I was thinking exactly the same." She turned forward again as she walked so as not to end up falling over her own legs.
"Indeed I am, but how could I not? It's the weekend, I'm doing something with a friend and even better, we're going on a little adventure." With a day like this, she could only be in a good mood. Even though they would almost certainly not have much success today, it was the first step in their adventure. This could only be good.
They walked for a few minutes until they arrived at the place where the two had suspected the boats But there were no boats there and the enthusiasm fell from Haley's face. Of course, it would fail at the point the two had assumed there would be no problems there. But if Haley had done some research, she would have known that the boats would be at an underwater harbour once they arrived. But the first year girl hadn't and now they were standing there looking at a lake with no boats.
Haley stopped and looked at the empty spot, where she had actually hoped that the two of them could get on a boat right away and set off on their adventure. But that would not be possible now. A quick glance at Mav told her that he was probably thinking the same thing she was, and disappointment was written all over both their faces.
Haley felt a little sadness rising inside her, but she couldn't change the situation. That was the way it was. Sometimes plans didn't work out, no matter how well thought out they were. "I guess our plan failed at this point." She said with a sad smile, ending the silence between the two friends.
She took her box of wood lice out of her bag and walked to the nearest tree, "This is your lucky day." She said as she released the animals again. She turned to Mav and tried to give him a smile, but her shoulders sagged in disappointment and you could see it on her face. But she tried not to let it ruin her day. "Okay, we need another plan. What do you say we just sit here by the lake and you tell me about your favourite creatures?"

The two eventually came to the place they believed the boats would be but, to their disappoinment, found nothing. He had a feeling they weren't going to but that did change the fact that he was still disappointed. He saw Haley look in his direction and he could tell she was also disappointed. It made sense the boats weren't just kept out, for safety reasons of course. He heard the Gryffindor girl comment on how their plan failed which he nodded to agree.
The two went quiet for sometime, realizing how their plan had quickly went up in flames. He saw Haley take out a small boxes and followed as she opened it near a tree. Let's find some creatures
Haley smiled as Maverick patted to take the place next to him and she made her way to him. You could still see the disappointment on her face but Haley tried not to let it get her down. It could be worse than this and so she would still get to spend a nice day at the lake with her friend. She sat down next to Mav in a cross-legged seat and looked out at the calm lake.
A few minutes passed where the two friends just sat quietly next to each other and Haley enjoyed that quiet. She enjoyed it when they could just be still together and take in the moment. The cool wind blowing across the lake causing small waves, the dark clouds closing in. The trees around her that made it feel so beautifully like nature. She closed her eyes for a moment and took it all in. And that was the moment she left all her disappointment behind. Just because they failed in their plan didn't mean the day was any less good because of it.
She opened her eyes and smiled at Mav again, but this time not sadly but happily. She rummaged in her bag and pulled out a packet of lemondrops and offered some to Mav without comment, setting the small packet down between them. "So, what's your favourite creature?" she asked curiously as she turned her gaze back to the lake.

Let's find some creatures
The two sat by the lake for sometime, in silence. That was fine though, it was nice just sitting outside and listening to the nature. They hadn't found the boats which meant they couldn't go find the bowtruckles. He had been disappointed and was still a little bit but the day wasn't over yet and he planned to reclaim it with the Gryffindor girl.
He heard a rustling noise and turned to see the ginger pulling out a bag of candies. On closer inspection, he could see that they were lemon drops. She offered them to him and so he took one, popping it into his mouth and looking back out towards the lake. That's when her heard her ask a question which was the same one he had meant to answer before they sat down.
It took a while for him to think, leaning back slightly as he put his hands behind him. There were so many different creatures in the world, so it was hard to choose. "It's really hard to choose one actually, there are so many. Some are cool, some are cute, some are useful, and so many other reasons. I've always been very fond of Mooncalf's, they're just so cute and shy it's hard not to like them. I think Phoenixes are really cool though and brilliant so they may also be my favorite," he told her, smiling slightly as he did. There were so many, his heart truly wouldn't let him pick.

Let's find some creatures
The day clearly did not go as she had wished, but that was not a bad thing. It was still a nice day and she enjoyed the time with her friend. How the two of them sat by the lake, ate lemondrops and talked about creatures. The clouds kept closing in and basically Haley was just waiting for it to start raining.
Haley still sat facing the lake and listened to Mav's words. She had to smile and silently agreed with him. She could completely understand his point, it's hard to pick a favourite. Whether it's creatures, classes, places and so on. She kept nodding at him in agreement. She didn't know Mooncalfs and would look them up in the library at the next opportunity.
"What are mine? Hmm..." she considered for a brief moment before starting to speak again. "Well Bowtruckles definitely, but you already know that." She smiled but was still a little sad that she didn't get the chance to see any. At least not now here at Hogwarts. "I find dragons very interesting too, but rather less of an animal that you find cute." She found the basilisk interesting too, but she wouldn't mention that. She had read a lot about it when she had read up on the Chamber of Secrets but that was not a topic of conversation for today. "Puffskein and Pygmy Puff are super cute, of course." She laughed now, just to be able to name another cute animal.
There was still so much she would get to know in this magical world, but she still had plenty of time. Whether it was spells, stories from the past or magical animals. There was still so much to learn and Haley couldn't wait to absorb this knowledge.
"Someday, when we're old enough, we could just travel some place in this world together and seek out and explore a creature we never saw." She now looked at Mav and smiled at him.

Maverick listened intently as Haley talked about different animals, also not particularly having just one favorite. There were so many different types of magical creatures in the world. It was far to difficult to just pick one of them. The Gryffindor girl threw the idea that the two should travel together when they were older. Then they could find magical creatures themselves.
Maverick sat up slightly, thinking about what the girl had said. It definitely sounded like a brilliant idea and he would love nothing more than to explore and find creatures, especially with a friend. Of course, it would be a long time before they could do this and a lot could change between now and then. None the less, he liked the idea and nodded slightly at the suggestion. "That definitely sounds like fun, we could see all sorts of creatures in all sorts of places," he said, smiling slightly as he did.
"I mean, a lot could change from now but if we could then I would definitely be up for it.
