Eliana forced down the shakiness that came with her first class of the year. She had always loved learning but was homeschooled up until she got her Hogwarts letter, so this new environment was a little off-putting. She was among the first to gather in the classroom, leaving her with a variety of places to sit. Choosing a spot in the farthest corner, she sat down, placing her bag on the ground beside her and pulling out her books. After rummaging through her sack she also pulled out a small stack of papers, a quill, and ink. After a second thought, she also placed her wand on the table in front of her.

Slowly the students filtered in and she had to bite her lip to keep herself from bouncing in her seat, her skin tingling with excitement. Reaching into a robe pocket she pulled out a small elastic ball of rubber. Squeazing it and stretching it she felt her nerves melt away into the stress ball. The small grains of rice or beans or whatever was in it, she relaxed against her seat, eyes focusing blindly on the table in front of her as she rested her elbow on the table, rolling the ball against her temple absently.

April was slowly getting ready, when she noticed the time. Quickly, she grabbed her book bag and ran to the Transfiguration tower. She could not be late, not again!!

She rushed in, barely on time. She had apparently slept in that morning, and barely had a chance to get ready. Her hair was a mess, and she looked as tired as could be. After a morning of stress, it was as if sleep was beckoning for her. But she had class, of course. Note to self: don't stay up late studying next time. There is plenty of time to study, as long as you don't procrastinate. Mad at herself for all this, she looked around the room for an empty seat. She sat down next to Eliana.

"Hello," she said quaintly, dropping her bookbag on the floor and ruffling through it to find her homework. The class was joined with the Slytherins today, she noticed. She found the paper she was looking for, and pulled it out of her bag. She sat up straight, trying not to fall asleep. Back in London, her school wouldn't start until late morning. She never understood why wizards here insisted on waking up so early. Though she definitely preferred her magical studies to muggle math.

Eliana looked up from where she was busy writing down an outline for the class notes that she would be taking throughout the class. The room had filled with Slytherin and Ravenclaw first years alike. Each of them chatting with their new friends, exclaiming excitedly about one thing or another. The sound grated on her nerves and she fought the urge to clap a hand over her ears and block the sounds out. The sound of a chair sliding out next to her brought her attention away from the parchment. Turning her blue eyes to look at the blonde she gave a small smile, just enough to curl the corners of her lips.

"Hello." She said calmly, tucking the stress ball into her robe pocket. Taking a closer look at the other girl she frowned. A light ring of dark circles ran under the Ravenclaws eyes. 'How can she be tired?' Eliana wondered. 'It's only been a few days since classes even started. She debated whether or not to ask but decided that it wasn't any of her business. Pulling out a small bag of candies she held it out to her neighbor. "Want one?" She asked softly, tilting her head to the side.

The class chatted away, wondering when the teacher would show up. April was used to loud conversation, however, having grown up with three siblings. Her little sister, especially, could never stop talking. It was always, ‘April,’ this, and ‘today,’ that. Thinking about her made her a little homesick, and she tried to redirect her thoughts.

Indifferent to the noisy classroom, she started thinking about her dream from last night. She was trapped outside the Ravenclaw common room, unable to figure out the password riddle. The headmistress stood aside and shook their head, disappointed. She frowned, remembering how real it felt. She never thought she could be a Ravenclaw, and thoughts of failure always clouded her mind. Lost in thought, she startled when the Slytherin replied.

“Hmm??” She looked up, not hearing what the girl had said. She noticed the candies she was holding out to her, and thought she recalled her offering one to her. She was a little confused, thinking it was strange how people bonded over food. At family dinners, at parties, in the great hall.. Nevertheless, she smiled. Unsure what the Slytherin even said, she responded, “Sure.” She also took notice of a stress ball the girl was holding. ‘At least I’m not the only one stressed out today,’ she thought to herself.
