About Time Finished

Elena's brow rose slightly at the glare she recieved from Jennifer, a bit confused although her smile didn't falter. Did she do something wrong or something? She knew her puns were pretty bad but no need to be so harsh. That was uncalled for. Maybe her first few attempts at settling the tension hadn't worked, but she did managed to get some slight amused glances from the puns. Maybe she should keep that up!
The brunette noticed that Kayden was also aware of the tension in the air and grew uncomfortable. Glad to know it wasn't just her. Something was going on between the two and it was up to her to figure out what. Her mental musing was then cut short by Rhea declaring that Jennifer liked Kayden, something that made the freckled girl snort, trying to avoid laughing "Well, I think it's the other way round but there's a chance the feelings are totally mutual!" Elena giggled, sending a grin to both of them at the opposite seats to show she was just messing with them. It was pretty obvious Kayden had been entranced by the prettier girl and Elena thought it was normal. Jennifer was pretty but a bit rude, it seemed like. The tension seemed to return once more as Jennifer snapped at Rhea and the explorer came to her defence with a laugh, waving her hands

"Tish a joke! No need to get so worked up!" An amused glint was present in her eyes as she leaned towards the both of them "But I know some super cute pickup lines in Spanish if you two ever need them~" She giggled before nodding to Kayden's words. Seems like they both had the same objective afterall "Yeah! We're gonna learn in the same school, no need to be so bitter with eachother!" Her excitement seemed to make the chocolate frog on her head hop to the open window. Oh right, she forgot about that. The countryside reminded her of her home at the barn and made her wonder how her family was doing. With a grin, she decided to pick up conversation

"Anyways since we're going to school together, what are you all looking forward to? Sil told me there's lots of cool people in Hogwarts, also that the castle is huge! I wanna explore it and map it out! I mean, someone's probably already done it but you never know! There might be stuff like secret rooms or something!" Elena reached for her trunk and took out one of her maps. This was one she had done of the barn. It had a windmill and a huge orchard, along with many other details and was really well drawn and carefully calculated, Say what you will about her but her maps were always on point "I love making maps! I almost considered mapping out this train but it's hard with so many people around!" She giggled "Whoops, I rambled, didn't I? Sorry! I do that a lot! I'm just so excited!"

Kaydens head sunk into his hands, then rested his face down on the table, burning with embarrassment. This Eleanor girl was crazy. In some ways good, but in other ways... not so much.
"I hate this," he muttered into the desk, hoping they didn't hear. He didn't think he would go from a golden situation with a pretty girl, and a funny friend, straight to his first major embarrassment among wizard-kind. The Jennifer girl was very pretty, though she could be rude at times. Eleanor apparently had no filter, then replaced that filter with a box of puns and unnecessarily embarrassing comments.

The Rhea girl seemed like she hated Jennifer, and kept very quiet unless she had something dark or aggressive to say. He sighed and brought his face back up. "I think this group is going to be best of friends." He said with forced enthusiasm. He stole a glance at Jennifer, who was now staring directly at Rhea, with a "That's never gonna happen in a million years" sort of look.

"Look, I think that there is something special about all of us meeting on the train. I think it means something. Like, we're all together for a reason."

Rhea groaned. Of course Kayden thought that. Something special? Best of friends? Was he blind? He probably disliked Rhea internally, because Rhea was making absolutely zero effort to hide her spite towards Jennifer. Did Kayden think he was being subtle? That would be almost laughable. Rhea had never seen anyone so clearly smitten.

She wondered if Jennifer and Kayden would become a couple some day. Not that it was any of her business.

Elena continued to muse about Hogwarts, her words punctuated by giggles. She seemed to by trying to ease the tension. It wasn't exactly effective, but the stoic girl had to admit it was a good try. Mapping out Hogwarts? A futile exercise, but possibly a fun one.

"Look," Rhea said finally. "I'm just going to speak unfiltered for a moment. Jennifer- Kayden- just kiss already. You are both conventionally attractive and like each other. Jennifer, leave me alone. I don't want to fight anymore, and you do, so the best action is to just shut up on both our ends. Elena, you are a sweet angel, but Jennifer hates you. Not for anything you did. Just because you are muggle-born and she has a grudge against people like that. Ignore her- that's her problem." Rhea took a deep breath, as she did often, and surveyed the group.

"Chocolate frog?" she offered, holding one out. It was amusing to be a source of discomfort.

Jenny nearly choked on her chocolate frog. Correction: She did choke on her chocolate frog but she managed to survive. "Just kiss already? Just kiss already? Rhea! NO. Who taught you your social skills?" She shook her head and glanced at Kayden to see his reaction. That would be too soon. Right? She sighed and turned to Rhea. "Okay, you guys are right. Let's make a truce. That doesn't make us all officially friends, just allies. Not enemies." She crossed her arms and nudged the carpet with her toe.

She could feel her face turning pink with embarrassment at Rhea's comment to her and Kayden. Just kiss? First of all: Too soon... maybe. Second of all: never would she kiss someone in front of others, especially Rhea Miller. And third of all, did Kayden like her too? She risked a glance at him before quickly turning away. "I don't hate her. And there's a reason I'm not a fan of muggles and it's not just because of my families beliefs. " She bit her lip. "My grandfather was really close to me, and he called me Jenny. He got sick, and he refused to go to the help of wizards, and he went to muggles. The muggles couldn't save him. I was holding his hand when he passed. Thats why. That's also why only friends can call me Jenny."

She turned to them. "You guys may call me Jenny, I suppose."

Kayden had already begun leaning forward on the table.
"NO way it's way too soon." Jenny said adamantly.
Kayden grabbed a chocolate frog, pretending that was his intent.
He coughed and cleared his throat.
"Yeah, I agree, of course, way too soon obviously." He shut himself up and stuffed the chocolate frog into his face. His face flushed, and he leaned back in his chair. He listened to her story about muggle-borns and hating muggles. He sighed. He felt bad for her, but he would definitely have to change her mind. He coughed again and realized everyone was looking at him. Was he supposed to do something?

He thought back to what Jennifer had said. She had said no, but he couldn't believe she really meant that. He looked up and held eye contact for a good three seconds before he looked away. This was getting a little redundant. Something was going to happen. He felt a nudging on his shoulder.

Eleanor was bumping his arm, raising her eyebrows. He was liking this kid more by the second, even if her filter was non-existent.
"What? What do you want?"
She raised her eyebrows again.
Kayden realized they were being loud enough for the others to hear.

Jenny now noticed that Kayden coughed. "No offense, but it's too soon... right? Rhea, don't do that again." She huffed. She didn't totally hate the idea of kissing him, but... yeah. Beautiful th of their faces were a matching shade of red. Their eyes met, and Jenny looked away, a few shades of red brighter.

Then Eleanor starting nudging Kayden and raising her eyebrows. Jenny covered her face with her hands and sighed. But she looked up and smiled at Kayden. This was fine. It would be... fine.

Wait. She looked back in her memory a few moments ago. He had started to lean towards her, hadn't he? Or was he reaching for a frog? Had Jenny ruined everything. Her eyes went wide has she thought.

"So, um. Am I missing something?" She asked Eleanor as she continued to smile at Kayden. "What does she want?" She asked, this time whispering to Kayden. She looked at her card from her frog. She had this one already. "You want this card?"She offered it to Kayden.

Was she being too obvious? The only girl in here was a bubbly one and an annoying sensible one. She couldn't ask any of them if she was being to obvious.

Eleanor's smile turned into a full-on grin at Kayden's words as she tried not to laugh. Them being the best of friends? If that was the case, they would be certainly the most odd bunch of friends. Both Rhea and Jennifer wore incredulous looks at the idea but atleast neither vocally challenged the idea. There was still a chance that it could be possible.

At Rhea's comments about the two obvious lovebirds kissing, she nodded furiously to show her agreement and chuckled at both Kayden and Jennifer's reactions and did so again to Rhea's strange call for laying down arms, grinning as Jennifer agreeded. The tension seemed to lessen now that they weren't enemies but not exactly friends yet. Better than nothing in her opinion. Operation Calm The Storm was complete! Her little celebration was cut short as Rhea addressed her and told her that Jennifer hated her, along with the reason why. The brunette had a raised brow that reduced to a furrowed one at the explanation. It wasn't like she could control her blood status or whether or not her biological parents were wizards or not. She had no idea about her mom but she would surely know if her dad was. Maybe that would be something she'd have to ask when she found him. Jennifer quickly intervened and explained why. As she spoke, Elena quietly listened with some pity. It wasn't exactly justified but she could see why. Maybe her parents ingrained that mentality after her grandfather died. She now had a new misson; Operation Mind Change! She would show Jennifer that not all muggles are bad, with herself being an example. After she said they could call her Jenny, the freckled girl had a grin on her face once more.

"So that means we're your friends right? Since you said that only friends can call you that? I'll stick to Princess or maybe Jen-Jen or Jens! Y'know what? I'll call you all of them!" Eleanor declared with a laugh and immidiately noticed that Kayden had leaned a bit closer to Jennifer. Was it happening? Oh he was totally taking the first step! Her anticipation was then cut in half as he just reached over to get a chocolate frog. Elena pouted slightly and sighed. At this rate, it would take pretty much the whole school year for them to confess and kiss, maybe more! So with raised brows, she decided to give Kayden a nudge to make them both get closer, raising her eyebrows with a grin when he asked what she was doing. Didn't he get it? If he was being too cowardly to do it, she would give him the figurative and literal push he needed!

Of course, Jenny had to offer him a card, a perfect way to give him attention. Eleanir had to keep herself from squealing or something. Her eyes widened slightly at the moving picture "Woah! Look at that! I didn't know pictures could move!" The girl turned to Rhea with a grin "Do you have moving pictures too? Are they a thing in the magic world? That's so cool! This kind of reminds me of my postcard collection, except they don't really move. I could show you sometime!" The brunette tapped her chin and smirked at Jennifer "Still, it's kinda suspicious that you're giving him your card, Jen-Jens. Maybe you wrote your number in it hmm? Oh wait, wizards have phones, right?" She turned to Rhea for an answer "Do wizards have phones or do they use owls all the time?"

It seemed that the tension had been replaced with awkwardness. Which was almost as bad as the tension. He decided it was definitly the time to change the subject. He took Jennifer's chocolate frog card and stuffed it into his back pocket, giving her a nod of thanks.

He looked at all of them.
"Look, guys, I think that whether we like it or not, we're friends now. We have to stick together-"

He was cut off by Eleanor.
"Oh- yeah photos move here. It's cool, but you'll get used to it. It loses its flair in about a month."

He cleared his throat again.
"I think that we need a name for ourselves. Something cool. Something that makes people look at us and say, man I wish I was like those guys."

He looked at Rhea. I think that now we have all settled are, uh, disputes, we can now officially declare ourselves a group."

Kayden looked at Jennifer, no longer quite as embarrassed. Now was the time for friends, nothing else.
Eleanor was still staring at the card, waving to the witch in the photo.
And Rhea... was staring him down, making him squirm slightly.
They were quite the rag-tag bunch.

A name? To make people jealous? Once again, Rhea was overcome by disbelief at his insane suggestion. First, they were supposed to be a group, and now they needed a name? Rhea didn't even particularly like any of them. Well, Elena was okay, but Jennifer was certainly not, and Kayden seemed to have this off-putting obsession with making them all like each other. She was getting flashbacks to when her father was with Miss Parkes.

"Fine. I do declare us a group. We can be the ass-butts," Rhea suggested. "That's what my classmates called me and my friend in primary school." It was a half-joke, but that was kind of all she had in her at that moment. Maybe someone would find it funny.

She might have been accidentally glaring at Kayden. Somehow, she did not feel like making much of an effort to prevent that.

"Well, I was raised by muggles too," she said finally, as an answer to Elena's question. "But I'm pretty sure they have different ways of communicating. I read somewhere that magic makes technology go haywire. Bit disappointing, really." And it was. Rhea's father's old laptop had been such a big and important part of her life. So had the old arcade machine in her bedroom. Despite the thrill that being surrounded by actual magic gave her, there was still a bit of lingering sadness from the loss of her life at home.

Not that she was homesick. Homesickness was something Rhea had never struggled with. The longest she had ever spent away from her dad was three weeks for camp (back when she had Miss Parkes to pay for that stuff), and she didn't even cry.

"Okay, so not the ass-butts," she said finally. "Any other ideas?"

Jenny couldn't help but snort. "Really, Rhea? So funny. I'm laughing so hard you can't even tell." She said, with sarcasm. She couldn't help but notice Rhea glaring at Kayden. Why? Who knows. But who called someone that? Muggles, apparently. Strange.

"Yes, there are different ways of communicating, and yes, magic makes technology go haywire. Rhea is correct ." For once. A shame? Technology was dumb. At least what she knew about technology was dumb. Magic was better. All the muggles just spent their time with their face staring at screens. No wonder they weren't intelligent. Unfortunate.

And people wondered why Jenny's family felt above muggles. "Another name? Hmm. The.... four frenemies. Amazing allies. Or, something simple. You want jealousy? No dumb nicknames. You need something straight forward. We need..." Jenny tapped her chin. She snapped. "The group. That's it! We will be the group. Like, 'Oh, look! It's The Group! You know?"

What was she doing? Forming a group and then offering her popularity skills to them. Sigh. Look at her. What would become of her. Jenny decided her mother would never find out. Actually, her mother finds everything out. But she would stall as much as she can.
