Kaegen was partaking in one of the odd past times he had. Theme songs. He would try and come up with a little ditty for random things. But today he was working on something harder. Coming up with a theme song for people he knew. This was going to be difficult, people were so confusing. Well, how about his confusing pseudo friend? He thought pseudo, because he really didn't know. She said she wasn't his friend, and then said she was, and then said she wasn't, but maybe she was joking or....
It didn't matter, he would figure this out.
A short girl of bright red hair
At first I thought that I would dare
To walk through the very flames of hell
To make sure that none would fell
This marvelous, wonderful girl
I gave her the knife
But then came a strife
And she exploded in a storm of confusion
Kaegen sung it in a odd, broken tune. To him it sounded like a song, but to anyone else it just sounded odd. A bit sad, without a good melody. Some of the words didn't even rhyme and it wasn't all that good. He would work on it, that was only a draft. Staring out across the lake, he tried to fit the right words in proper order. It might take him a hour or so, but he would perfect it. Was it even possible to perfect a theme song for a person?
Kaegen wasn't sure, but he would find out.

Mentioned red-headed, prior welder of the friendship knife, and pseudo confusing friend, Eris Elcan was wandering the grounds by the lake. She was deep in thought, considering the events of the Hospital Wing and, what Eris had taken to calling, the Hallway battle. After the disaster of losing Adam as a friend, and the confusion of whatever had gone on with Kaegen and Eris's emotions, the young girl hadn't thought about the events without going into a state of shock and unrelenting sadness.
Now that she was alone, and outside in the clarity of the bitter cold and wind whipping red hair into her face, Eris was able to think. What had even happened? With an unusual sense of clarity, that rarely happened to the red-head, she thought about the events without a sense of pride for hitting Eri. She could of handled the situation better, but so could of Adam and Kaegen. They were all children though, and it wasn't their fault. At least, that was what Eris had kept telling herself.
Traveling through the wind, a faint broken melody could be heard. Eris raised her eyebrows, following the humming noise. She took a few steps, until she stood directly in front of a boy she knew all too well.
Heart pounding in her chest at the sight of her friend(?), Eris looked behind her. There wasn't anywhere to run too, without coming off as weird. She had already acted weird enough lately. "Uh.. hi Kaegen?" She muttered, foot tracing patterns in the melting snow slowly seeping into the grass.

He turned, and looked at the red haired girl. She was familiar, he had seen her before. He stared at her for a moment in confusion, then recognition dawned on him. She was the confusing girl, the one that used to be his friend. The one he was composing a song for.
"Hi eris."
The memory he had was that of a friend, but when he looked at the girl in front of him, he just saw some random student. It was eris, he knew who she was. But he had removed her from the memories of her. There was no reason to carry around bitterness and make things awkward. Kaegen wasn't one to dwell on things unimportant, unless of course they were interesting.
Changing song subjects, he thought of the professor from defense against the dark arts.
"Do you want to help make a song for mellow?"
Eris looked like she was uncomfortable about something, like she was acting all awkward. It was kind of strange, maybe she was cold or something. Kaegen considered handing her his spare scarf, but decided against it. She would be fine, it wasn't like she was shivering a lot or anything. He wondered if she was good at rhyming.

Kaegen seemed remarkably calm. He was, of course, a very odd kid. And probably just didn't care about the hallway battle. Her past friend Kaegen Deathmote, Fens-born scarf wielder, he who was called fat tadpole as a baby, suicidal idjit as a toddler, who had earned the name eeh before Hogwarts, was just a strange child. Eris felt a rush of joy, remembering Adam's words to stay with the strange boy, although if the rumors were to be believed, he was spending his days rooming the halls with a strange hufflepuff. Maybe this would be the perfect time to mend their friendship. Although Kaegen seemed to think nothing was wrong.
With a huff, Eris flung herself on the grass near Kaegen. A song about Mellowrose? She huffed out a laugh, thinking of things to say.
"Um, there once was a teacher.
He was a strange creature
always asleep,
his homework makes me weep"
It wasn't much, but it was an effort. Eris grinned, turning fully to Kaegen's figure next to her, under the tree. feeling victorious. "How's that for a start ?" Her little song needed a lot more effort, but it sounded nice. Perhaps Kaegen would like it.

He liked the rhyme. It fit, but he could probably fit some changes in there somehow. Thinking about it a bit, Kaegen tried out two different versions in his broken melody, it sounded nice to him, and that's all that mattered in the long run, besides why would it sound any different to anyone else? He was hearing it just like everyone else was.
"There once was a teacher
All day did he sleep
A truly strange creature
He makes us weep
After the classes are over and through
He has a sinister surprise for you
A task, an assignment
No matter what your alignment
It will always bring you to tears
And give grey hair beyond years"
He was working on the second version, when he decided that the first was probably enough. Eris would change it if she wanted, and then he could change it a bit and so on, until they had something passable. He already thought that it was pretty good, if lacking that special something. Maybe he should have more than two elements about the teacher in the theme. After all, all someone would know from that is that the teacher sleeps and hands out bad homework.
Then again, maybe that's all they needed to know.

Eris clapped her hands in delight, giggling at Kaegen's odd rhyme. "It's perfect!" She declared, easy smile on her face. The troubles of friendship had been forgotten by Eris, in her childlike nature. Her mind was already fully focused on the funny poem about a sleepy professor. It was funny, and just like professor Mellowrose. She looked at Kaegen, seeing an expectant look on his face. He most likely wanted her to edit it. Kaegen was weird that way, always wanting things to change. Eris thought the poem was perfect the way it was though, and wanted to write it down.
Rummaging for her book bag, lying discarded on the grass near them, Eris pulled out a piece of parchment and titled it Theme Songs. Then she jotted down the poem for Professor Mellowrose, often asking Kaegen what some of the words were when she couldn't remember them.
One theme song down, many more to go. Of course, they would need to add music to the poems. Plus they weren't really theme songs, although it was funny to think of them that way. Like everyone in Hogwarts was in a TV Show and had their own theme song for when they walked into camera view. The thought of there being a Hogwarts TV show made Eris giggle.
"What about a poem about Eri Windstone?"

Eri windstone? Who was that? The name sounded vaguely familiar and yet he couldn't place it. But his brain insisted it was important, that he should really know this person. He dimly recalled compartment 7, that weird girl with the book that had tipped him off to something being wrong, hadn't she introduced herself as Eri Windstone? And wasn't she the fully grown death witch that had transformed herself into a child to gain entrance to the school, blowing her cover when she attacked Kaegen with a spell that was far beyond a first year's ability to cast?
Assuming that was the person Eris was talking about, Kaegen could probably come up with a pretty good rhyme.
"A twisted mind
A potion did find
That would let it in to the school
Slowly changed
Completely deranged
In a child's form still could rule
Armed with many a spell
You never could tell
When the evil heart yearns to kill
So heed my word
Fly off like the bird
Before the blood of your friends does spill"
That seemed pretty accurate. And on his first try, too! If eris had any other ideas for people, he would probably have to ask her to describe the person, so he could remember who it was.
"If you have any other ideas, make sure I know them, alright?"
This was more fun than it usually was, making themes with another person. He should do this more often.

Eris leaned her head into the green grass of the field surrounding the Great lake. Her red hair was stark against the green of the grass, the contrasting colors painting an odd sight. It was impossible not to think of Christmas, seeing the red and green. It was also strange. Red hair was a rare trait, prized in about 1 percent of the population. But it seemed that everyone in the whole school of Hogwarts had red hair. The whole one percent of the population was occupying the Scottish castle. Mind lost in thoughts of red hair, Eris lounged on the grass as Kaegen composed his poem about Eri Windstone.
A child's form? She was a child. Wasn't she? Although it would make sense if she was an older witch in hiding, like that movie the older kids in school used to talk about. She did know an awful lot of things, like spells and potions. Eri wasn't exactly evil was she? She was.. just.. evil. Definitely evil. That would be the only explanation for the spell she had used on Kaegen, and the insuring aftermath, which was starting to be known as the Hallway Battle. Eris's mind couldn't wrap around any other explanation, besides Eri being evil.
"Do you really think Eri is an adult in a child's body?" It sounded absurd to say outloud, but honestly, Eris wouldn't of been shocked. This was hogwarts after all. Anything could happen, and everything was dangerous.

Did he think that Eri was an adult in human body? Yes, he did. He had the math figured out, the politics, the snacks at the after-execution party, even. Although he would likely not ever see that last one. He might if he put forth an effort to stop the girl, but he wasn't going to do that. He remembered the hallway battle all too clearly. Why had that other eris acted like that? Why had she been so confusing, so sad. He hadn't done anything wrong, he had been trying to protect his friends. But in the end, he just lost those bonds. Shacking off that train of thought, he voiced his line of thinking.
"She couldn't have practiced magic outside of hogwarts if she was underaged. No one taught diffindo in class, and the classes keep people too busy to learn spells that advanced. It doesn't add up, she could not have cast that, even by accident. Unless she isn't 11."
It made sense to him, but he could have missed something. In fact, it was more than likely that he had missed something. But he didn't know how to check that. He sat in silence for a few more seconds, and then had a realization. Why wasn't he friends with the other eris any more? What had he done? Nothing. He had done absolutely nothing. Then why had she been so upset? And then it hit him. Adam. Adam had made her that upset. He had heard the nurses talking about it. It was the only explanation. They said that Adam had gotten jealous over nothing, that he accused her of choosing the blood soaked boy over himself, and then lashed out. How he had done nothing but cause the other eris to be confused, and sad over nothing. Over worse than nothing. He certainly didn't like Adam now, if he did before, but he trusted himself not to care about that. Grandfather had taught him that being upset that a person did something does no good unless you can do something about it. He had been taught to take some kind of action. And he would take action. He still learned his lesson, he still would watch everyone that was close to him, never let his guard down. But he would find that other....
Eris. Kaegen looked down at the girl next to him as if seeing her for the first time. He would pass grandfather's teachings down to her, and solve this horrible mess.
Out of nowhere, Kaegen slapped Eris, not hard enough to hurt, but enough to sting. Grandfather always said it would clear the mind. "Why? You're eris, and even if you searched from the reeds the 13 dark places, you still wouldn't find a single reason for this to be happening."
His voice had gathered power, latent energy, like a stormcloud that was about to burst into thunder.
"Why did I even listen to you? You were crying on the floor, the friend who let you stay at his house, with his family just left you for no reason I can possibly fathom and I listened to you?"
Kaegen was getting upset, more at himself than anyone else. Why had he listened to her? Why didn't he wait until she had calmed down? Why had he slapped her, for that matter? He probably should have slapped himself. She had done nothing at all wrong. Nothing. Reaching for the sheath-less knife, the very same knife he had taken from her that day in the hospital. Pulling it free from a few straps on his leg, he offered it to the red head.
"I, Kaegen Deathmote Fens-Born scarf-wielder. He who was called fat tadpole as a babe, suicidal idjit as a toddler, he who earned the name Eeh before arriving at hogwarts school for witchcraft and wizardry where he was given the name Kae, do hereby admit to being a complete and utter idiot, for acting like a selfish, horrible friend, for taking back what you rightfully earned and for not helping you when you actually needed it. Please... Take it."
There were days when he actually understood some things. When his hindsight actually worked, and he could fully grasp what was going on. Those days were seldom. You would sooner see harry potter return as a dark wizard then you would see Kaegen understand people.
This would work out, assuming she heard anything Kaegen said. The slapping her and not himself thing was probably not the best move.

Eri was an adult in a human body. Even to Eris, who was extremely naive and the epitome of childhood stupidity, she had to admit that sounded absurd. Then again, when was Kaegen not absurd? Listening to him with a befuddled expression, Eris tried to see his point. There had to be another logical explanation for Eri's adeptness in everything. Of course, Eri had never really talked to Eris, so Eris had no idea. It did seem strange she had used such a powerful spell, but then again, kids in this school seemed to have an abnormal amount of talent when it came to spells and other magical things.
Eris opened her mouth to say something upon the matter, only to let out a little gasp of surprised pain when Kaegen's hand collided with her cheek. Eris felt the blood rush to her face, letting out an indignant huff. She raised her own hand, about to slap him back and storm off, when she remembered it was Kaegen. Slapping someone in the face was not the oddest thing he had done with his life. She was further taken aback by the pensive look on the other child's face. He looked like he had just came to a epiphany of sorts, all because of slapping Eris. Then Kaegen started to say extremely odd things, about her being Eris and something about another child, who was clearly Adam. Was he mad? There was no dealing with Kaegen.
Rubbing at her sore cheek, which stung but definitely wasn't going to bruise, Eris stared at Kaegen with a look of utmost concern and confusion. He was going absolutely insane, although one could testify that he was insane to start with. She tried not to be concerned about the slapping, knowing Kaegen probably had a reason for it--being the strange kid he was. Eris was more than used to odd things coming out of Kaegen's mouth, and even odder gestures.
And now he was saying his titles, while pulling out a little knife. With a jolt, Eris recognized the knife. She still carried the sheath for it in her robes, in a vain attempt to cling onto any normality of the friendship the two had once had. But his titles..Oh god. Eris had thought that was a joke caused by the delirium of being slashed into by a rouge spell, and months of pent up silence. Clearly it was not. That fact alone scared Eris more than she would of liked to admit.
If only things had been this easy with Adam. She would of gladly taken a slap from the other boy, if it meant saving their friendship too. "Wow. That's quite a title." Was all Eris could think to say, sticking the knife back into it's leather pouch of a holder. "Also, why were you carrying a knife around without a shealf! You could of stabbed yourself!" And just like that, things went back to normal. In the course of a few moments, one slap, and an odd title being uttered.

That wasn't planned. Staring at the knife in Kaegen's hands, and the expression on his scarf-clad face, Eris realized that Kaegen was offering up friendship again. Calling himself a selfish, horrid friend, and offering their friendship to continue. To get over the rough patches and start again. Eris knew she wanted to stay friends with the strange scarf-clad boy. Taking the knife from his hands, Eris smiled."..do hereby admit to being a complete and utter idiot, for acting like a selfish, horrible friend, for taking back what you rightfully earned and for not helping you when you actually needed it.
