Today was a special day, a chance for a bit of romance or platonic love. It was an opportunity to have a little bit of fun and make room for love in your heart, whether that was a new blossoming relationship or to help grow an old one. Love was a powerful emotion, capable of achieving great things. This event was the push that was required to help those in need to make that first step, to find a bond that they could treasure for the years to come. Maybe people will find their childhood sweethearts here or build the foundation of a bond that only grows.

Perhaps that was too optimistic. Nonetheless, this was a way to escape from the drama and angst, a chance to just have a little bit of fun and have a cute date. And what better location to spend with someone than under the stars?

Entering the Astronomy Tower, students would see the familiar staircase decorated with floating paper hearts that gently spun around in the sky. Following the trail of hearts up the staircase, they would enter into the Astronomy classroom at the top of the tower. The entrance to the classroom had a large arch made from paper flower roses in different shades of pink and red around it.

Walking through the arch, people will be greeted by a very different decor than they were likely used to seeing at the astronomy tower. Heart garlands were draped on the edge of the tables and paper hearts floating in the room randomly. There was a sign on the side, saying "please take one". In smaller text, it also said, "You may take up to one of each if you would like".

By the sign, people would see three main options. The first was a vase of pink roses. If anyone looked carefully, they would notice that the thorns had been cut off from the stems. Taking out a rose, they would notice a small label attached to the stem. The second choice was little bags of sweets. A transparent bag holding a small variety of heart-shaped chocolates or sweets. There was ribbon around the bag that tied it shut and a blank label on each bag. The third choice was an eggless cupcake, with glitter icing on it that looked like a rose. On the cupcake case, there was a blank sticker label here too.

When someone took one of the items (or multiple), the blank labels would start to change immediately. They would see words start to form on them. It would give them a number. That was it. A number.

Looking up, they would likely spot a room full of picnic blankets scattered around the area. There was also a foil heart-shaped balloon that came in white, pink or red. They had a small weight on the bottom of the strings to prevent them from flying away. On either side of the balloon itself, they would see a number.

It was clear that they were supposed to go to the respective number to meet their blind date.

On finding their matching balloon, they would look down to see there were two cushions on top of the picnic blanket, with a hamper in the middle. The hamper itself contained a variety of snacks: biscuits, chocolates, scones, cream, jam and cake. There were also some small sandwiches, in case anyone wanted something a little heavier. For drinks, there was a small teapot of hot water that was magically kept hot in the hamper. They would find a small selection of teas, as well as hot chocolate powder in the hamper too - with sugar and milk. For those who preferred a cold drink, there was also water and juice available.

It was definitely on the colder side up in the tower. Being wrapped up in a coat and some gloves would probably be ideal. Hats and scarves would be a decent idea too. After all, the sun had set and it was the middle of winter. However, the sheer number of people around as well as the fireplaces helped to add a bit of warmth to it that prevented it from being freezing. People would not need to wear snow boats as it was not freezing by any means. However, it was definitely suggested that people dressed up warm for the evening.

Sitting down and looking up, they would see the beautiful starry night sky showering over them. Anyone who was good at Astronomy might be able to name some of what they see.

Valentine's Day marked two things this year. Jenny's birthday, and of course, the Valentine's dinner under the stars. It was just a bit cheesy, if you asked Jenny but it was lovely. You would never catch Jenny saying this; that she was quite excited for the dinner and she didn't care about the blood status if who she was with. She was blinded by pure joy. She got many owls from her mother reminding her blood status mattered, but Jenny only ripped them up. She wasn't going to be bossed around on her birthday nor Valentine's Day. She told herself it always only to annoy her mother, But it could be something else.

Jenny checked out her outfit one more time in the silver mirror. Her outfit blocked out the cold of the common room and was sure to block out the cold out above. She smoothed her hair, which was twisted in something like a braid on her shoulder. She sat at the window, debating if this was a good idea. A King? On a blind date? Never heard that one before. Besides, Jenny heard some people might be in groups of three. Jenny couldn't imagine, would she be in a group of three? With one boy? Then there was a chance Jenny wouldn't make a friend at all.

Finally she got up and put on the emerald necklace from her grandfather. It didn't match so Jenny tucked it into her coat. She waved to some friendly acquaintances before heading out of the common room and through the castle to the Astronomy tower. The whole time, she couldn't help but wonder who she would meet. A boy? The boy? Jenny hadn't put a crush down and now she was beginning to wonder if it mattered. She really didn't have a crush but expected to maybe develop one after tonight. But if she were to be in a group of three, then how was that supposed to work? Jenny walked out onto the Astronomy tower and couldn't help but smile. Something Jenny didn't use much anymore after her grandfather passed in the hands of Muggles. The tower was decorated just right for Valentine's day, Jenny thought the hearts were cute. It was all so, so lovely and Jenny stood there, taking it all in with a wide grin.

There were cupcakes, roses, and small heart shaped candies in a bag. Jenny took a rose only because it wasn't more food then they might already be having. She twirled it in her finger, happy to see no thorns. On the blank tag, a number began to simmer on. She then looked up to see there were picnic blankets set out with pillows and tea and baskets. There were balloons next to each spot with a number on it. Jenny looked at her number, trying to read it before it was fully there. She searched the balloons, looking for the match.

Ah, there it was.

She headed over, and took a seat. She didn't touch anything just yet, she was going to wait first. She looked up at the stars.

Serena had always loved Valentine’s Day. Sure, some people thought that it was cheesy, but Serena just loved love! And chocolate, but mostly love! She had never spent it with a special someone, though. Despite being a hopeless romantic, Serena was more focused on studying and Quidditch than love right now. Sure, she’d had a few people that she’d fancied here and there, but nothing ever came from it. But maybe that would change tonight at the dinner? What would be more romantic than finding love under the stars?

But, Serena didn’t want to get her hopes up. After all, she’d attended the Valentine’s event last year, and the person that the previous Flying professor paired her up with never even talked to her. It was...awkward. The blonde hoped that that wasn’t going to happen again.

Well, she was getting ahead of herself. Serena had to get dressed first! As cute as her outfit was last year, the twelve-year-old wanted to go with a more subdued look. Plus, the event was outside on top of the Astronomy tower in February. She needed to be warm while also still looking cute. So, Serena quickly threw on a pink sweater with hearts, a pair of jeans, and a red coat. Still festive and stylish but would keep her warm. She also put on a pair of cute black boots and brushed her hair. She decided to just leave her curls as they usually were and not do anything too special. Serena would have worn makeup, but she didn’t have any at Hogwarts at the moment, and honestly, she was not confident enough in her skills to wear it out in public yet, anyway.

And with that, Serena made her way to the Astronomy tower. Entering, she loved the decorations. The floating paper hearts were so cute! Walking through the arch, Serena noticed a sign that said, ‘Please take one’. As she looked over the three options, she spotted that one of the items was a bag of chocolates! Serena quickly picked it up and was about to open it when Serena noticed that the blank label now had a number. Looking around, she noticed that next to all of the picnic blankets were balloons with a number on them.

Deducing that there were assigned seats, Serena walked around the room, trying to find her number. Finally, she spotted it! The set-up looked lovely, and Serena couldn’t wait to dig in and get to know who else would be joining her. It looked like one person was already there. There was a girl who looked to be a little younger than her in a pink coat with a fluffy scarf.

“Hi! Looks like we’ve been paired together! My name’s Serena Bowen! What’s yours?” She greeted with a smile as she sat down on one of the cushions.

Finally, the day had come. Grace had been looking forward to her first Valentine's day spent at Hogwarts for months. She didn't like Valentine's day, but would very like to make friends and talk to other people without embarrassing herself. Wanting some last minute advice, Grace wrote to her cousin. Grace always had problems with friendship. She never trusted anyone easily after her muggle friend freaked out and stayed away from her when she knew Grace was going to a magical school. Grace found it hard to express her actual self around her so-called friends. She didn’t want them to go around spilling her secrets, but can’t decide upon what to tell them. To her friends, Grace was always the quiet person.

Knowing that she might find friends in a gathering on a special occasion, Grace signed herself up for the Valentine's dinner. She didn’t expect it to go well. It was only just for the change of having a magical Valentine's day, which Grace guessed was worth it.

The day before the 14th of February, Grace dug her trunk inside-out trying to find an appropriate outfit for the event. She threw aside a headband with hearts engraved on it. Grace didn’t want anything too cheesy. After another half an hour digging around in her trunk, Grace finally decided upon a red checkered skirt with a black coat. It was all she could hope for, an outfit that can keep her warm at night on the Astronomy Tower.

That afternoon Grace left her group of friends chatting in the common room to get ready for the evening. She changed into the outfit, and then started to tackle her hair. Nothing she did would make it work. Her hair was always bushy. At last, with only twenty minutes to go, Grace twisted her curly red hair into what she hoped looked like a braid. Grace frowned at the girl in the mirror, the girl frowned back. Grace shrugged, she hoped that she wouldn't be paired with a boy.

A rush of students were heading to the Astronomy Tower. Grace followed the students. She had hoped to blend in, but her poor choice of an outfit made her stand out among the others, who Grace thought probably had their outfits prepared months and months ago. Grace was pushed onto the spiral staircase leading to the top of the tower, where a crowd had already formed. She stood on her tiptoes trying to get a better look at the scene. There were balloons with numbers on them. Still confused, Grace found herself in front of a pile of pink roses. Some of the students around her picked up one of the roses. Grace followed suit and took her own rose. Only then did she realize there was a label attached to the stem. But the label was blank. She flipped it over. Still nothing.

But then, before her eyes, something started to form on the label. It was a number. Realization spread through her. Grace looked around the tower, searching for the balloon with the same number as the label on her rose. Finally, she spotted it. Grace walked over. There were already two girls there. Grace plopped herself down on one of the cushions.

"Hi, I'm Grace," she said, holding out her hand, "You can also call me Ivanka if you want to, that's my middle name."

Alan was a little nervous, but not because it was Valentine's day but because he was doubting his thought process and the reason to sign up for this event. Then again, he still felt like he had to participate at the school's social events since he was a prefect now and luckily after a ton of work he had been able to convince Scott to be part of this as well. He probably would not have signed up for just himself, but knowing that he had a buddy made it a bit better and he was sure he would hear Scott complain about this later on. Alan would probably too, but she shook his head as he made his way over to the Astronomy Tower. It seemed to be going fine so far and perhaps he was lucky and got paired up with some nice people?

As he entered he was instantly greeted with a lot of lovey dovey decor, making him a little uncomfortable, subconsciously he would pull Tiger closer to his chest, seeking some kind of comfort from his companion in this kind of unfamiliar situation. It reminded him a little of entering the tea shop, but he had been able to ignore the surroundings mostly because he had a pleasant day with a friend. Here he was kind of thrown in the unknown waters, but he was pleasantly surprised when they were offered little treats and like he was permitted he would take each of those and lightly study the small labels attached to each treat. Since his hands weren't exactly free he would just place them on top of Tiger, hoping to balance both cat and everything else, praying to Merlin that Tiger would not do any sudden movements that could lead to the cupcake or other items being dropped to the ground. [d20:16] Alan was actually doing a pretty decent job at balancing everything so he probably would not have to worry.

He would try to find the number in the room, the small number that had revealed itself on each of the tags and spotted one of the heart shaped balloons, which gave him a really awkward feeling. Though he probably should not have been surprised at this, since it was Valentine's day after all and this was its whole purpose. With a sigh and an inner ted talk he would finally walk over to their picnic blanket and greet the few girls that already had arrived there. "Hey-", he said blankly, a bit awkwardly and unsure how a situation like that should best be approached. How was he even supposed to know? Silence and a small cough that escaped his lips as he tried to settle down on the blanket, awkwardly dropping his items gently to the ground next to him, before starting to scratch Tiger behind his ears and under the chin as the cat began to curl up on his lap and purr loudly. Perhaps an ice breaker? Or simply emotional support, possibly both.
