A night for beginnings
Jenny was never one to be late. She was one to be right in time, perfect at everything: by order if her parents. When she owled her mother stating there would a Pure ball, she sent her a gown and a letter.
Steal the show. Be perfect, my dear. Uphold our legacy and mingle among our equals. Than on the back, it wrote:
A great way to get attention is to be fashionably late, dear! Go on!
Jenny sighed. She didn't want to be late because than all the decent people might be already dancing. But she didn't want to let her mother down. She got her gown on, and did her hair. She applied some makeup, and finished it off with an emerald necklace with a snake on the actual emerald. A gift from her father. She checked the time and realised she was 15 minutes late. She walked to the ballroom, silently being annoyed with her mother.
She entered the ballroom and saw a girl yell at someone and than rush out. Jenny made a face. "The nerve of some of these students, I tell you. She must be a mudblood." Jennifer sighed and shook her head. She looked around for any familiar faces from the gatherings held at her manor for pure blood families. If anyone were to approach her and talk, she would introduce herself. "Greetings. I am Jennifer King."

Ashamed as he was for needing to ask Evelynn for help, particularly when he couldn't exactly tell her what was wrong to begin with, the Gryffindor girl seemed to take everything in stride. She addressed Paige gently and prompted her to explain what, exactly, was the matter, which Chase subsequently did. That didn't, of course, keep Jack from continuing to worry on the sidelines for a variety of other reasons.

What was he supposed to do now; just leave things up to Evelynn? Would that have been rude, or would it have been worse to hover nearby like some mother hen? Even if his part was done and his role played, did this mean he owed Evelynn another favor for coming to his aid? Sure, she may have been a prefect now and this might have been the sort of thing she was expected to do anyway, but that didn't change the fact that he'd drawn her attention to it and asked it of her - however much he'd liked to have thought otherwise. His conscience wouldn't have bought that.
It was with some surprise he felt Paige's gaze on him and he belatedly realized she had referred to him with the last thing she'd said. What was it? Something about ruining multiple people's nights...? Was she talking about him?
Before he could open his mouth to answer, however, Evelynn had for him. Her response involving his name caused his thick brows to narrow and all thoughts of owing her to be swept to the back of his mind for that moment.
"Hey, my chasing after her had nothing to do with her 'likability'," he protested unhelpfully, but he wasn't about to allow such blasphemous falsehoods to be spread or even thought about him if he had something to say about it. Still, his complexion ruddied at the parts he couldn't deny such as the fact that he'd 'gone so far as to call for her help'. "I was just worried about a fellow student is all. A member of my club, no less." Hazel eyes drifted away from Evelynn briefly to check if Paige was still watching him.
"Miller is in my dorm, though, Chase, so I can talk to him about this if you like. I'm sure there has to be...some...reasonable explanation for all of this." He tried to smile at her then in a way he hoped was comforting. "But you don't have to worry about thinking you ruined my night. If anything, you saved it - saved me from being bored out of my mind with dull pureblood talk, formalities, metaphorical masks, and outdated ballroom dances."
The comment about having seen one of her closest friends kissing a girl caused him to shudder in sympathy as it came back to the forefront of his thoughts. "My condolences about having borne witness to your friend, though. That would be disturbing..." It brought to mind a pair of his own closest...well, companions having supposedly locked lips at some point near the end of last year. Thank Merlin he hadn't been around to see that.
When Evelynn offered further assistance to help Paige up and perhaps continue to keep her company if she so desired, Jack tried to catch the prefect's eye to nod appreciatively. The favors kept piling up, sure, but at least he would probably feel they were well-deserved when the time came for him to pay up.
"Yeah...it's especially weird to think he might have actually invited a boy when he was complaining just the other night in our dorm about not being gay and stuff," Jack muttered after Evelynn told Paige she had not overreacted. "I remember that vividly because he was creeping me out talking about stuff like that." So I sat on him. Ah, yes; good times. Not that the girls needed to know that. But perhaps there would be more necessary Miller-sitting in his near future if one of their youngest dorm members needed another talking to about this. Ugh, why did he have to feel so naturally obligated to be the one to do it?!
Well, he could think on that later. "You hungry, Chase? Or thirsty? I could get you something if you liked." The Welsh boy sneered. "And by the way, don't let these silly purebloods get you down. They might call us 'mudbloods', but..." He leaned in with a conspiratorial palm held near his mouth to shield his lips from being read by outsiders as he whispered, "...they're the ones who tend to have a lot of in-breeding to keep their 'purity' in their lines. Kind of makes the name ironic, but...that's I'd rather be a mudblood than a 'pure' blood, any day."

Valencia stood silently in the corner of the ballroom, drink in hand as she looked grimly at the scene before her. There were plenty of students dancing, chatting, smiling the night away. Though the Dhampir didn't stand secluded because she was anti-social, no, quite on the contrary. She found herself to be rather fun to engage with, though by the looks of it everyone seemed to be huddled into their respective groups. All except.. one
Valencia narrowed her gaze at the fellow first year, the girl's expression wearing one of disdain. It appeared Valencia wasn't the only unhappy soul at the party, though the term "mudblood" struck her curiosity. Another one of those students, as if Hogwarts needed anymore. What was this, 1992? Nonetheless, she wore a grin as she approached the girl, her delicate and pretty features becoming evident the closer Valencia neared. How come it's always the pretty ones? She thought involuntarily, though it rang true in most cases. Pretty, prim, and proper children raised on the idea that wizardry should be gatekept. It wouldn't be so bad if they just kept to themselves, but no. They had to spew their "beliefs" on every single person they came into contact with as if anyone truly cared about their common surname. How would most of them react had they known the high chances of muggles withholding the same name?
She raised a hand before she had the opportunity to speak, talking over her introduction. "I hate to break it to you, but blood-purism is so out of style." She said tauntingly, her tone of voice clearly mocking the way the Slytherin chose to carry herself. It was more than likely that this statement would get under her skin, cause her to go off and start an argument with no valid points. What would she think of her had she known who she really was? What she really was. Perhaps run away and threaten her? Or simply shut up and exit the area?
"But hello! Valencia Deathstout, nice ta meet ya." She stuck out a hand, the probability of this girl actually shaking it back far unlikely, but hey. She could always try.

Jenny shut her mouth when the girl interrupted her and told her her beliefs were wrong and old fashioned. "The King family is an old family that has gone back centuries. That is just the way my mother decided to raise me and I apologize for upholding my beliefs." The girl introduced herself and held out her hand. The name 'Deathstout' seemed a bit familiar, so Jenny assumed she was not a mudblood. But you could never be sure. She gingerly shook Valencia's hand. "Pleasure...."
She looked around at the scene going on. She noticed to girls as dates together, but they could do what they want. It wouldn't affect Jenny in any way so she could care less. She turned her attention to the door as the girl from earlier ran back in and fell and sat there. "What do you think happened?" She tilted her head in Valencia's direction to let her know she was talking to her. This girl certainly was not a muggle born so Jenny didn't mind her at all. Werewolves, half bloods and wizard borns weren't as bad because they still had actual deserved magic in them. In fact, Jenny's family wasn't all perfect because they had some parselmouths in there.

A night for beginnings
As the night progressed, and many tempers rose, the clock would tic . . . tic . . . tic
The host had already left, laying in self pity on his bed deep in his dorms. The ball was left in the hands of Cassandra Ironwoods, as she had fun with her date. Many were still there, though many had left. The clock shined above them, before a bell was heard, a deep low ding. The ball had rung, the night was over.
Miller heard it where he was, in the dorms, and wondered how the night had progressed. Good? Bad? He'd know after the night was over, he hoped he wouldn't regret the idea.
House elfs weren't present yet, but the places and meals disappeared from the tables where they had sat. The pinao was slowing stopping, now, as dates began to say good night. They had an hour to get to their dorms, or at least their common rooms. The night had gotten cold, and the wind blowed.
The first event of the new club, Pure, was over, and many would not be forgetting that night. From confesstions to escapes made. Had the night been good? Depends on whom you ask.

After Cash was saying yes to go steady with Kara, the short brown haired girl cup the beaters hands, her head was down but when Kara looked up again, Kara's eyes are in the same state as the green eyes. Both of them had tears pooling in their respective eyes. "Thank you Cassie, thank you"Kara said as she let out a laugh and tried to rub her moisten eyes with her forearm.
To be honest Cash feel like does not deserved to be happy. Though they are a only child, their happiness stopped when their parent being absent in their life. Cash could not remember when was the last time they feel utterly happy in and with their life.
Until Kara come along. Her protective side, her caring side, made Cash feel like they do not need their parents attention and love as long as they have Kara by their side. The green eyes never had that kind of care, secure and warmth feeling before. Kara gave more to the purple hair than their parents supposedly gave it to them.
The green eyes so wrapped up in their bubbles that they did not realized Michael no longer present at the Ball. At this point Cash could care less if people looked at them and Kara. For once no one can ruined their happiness. No disapproved grandfather or uncle. Their father did not have the right to say otherwise because he had deceased from the world.
If one day Cash bring Kara home to meet their mother, their mother would not care whom her only daughter is dating. Maybe Cash's mother would asked about the whole engagement thing with Alec. Maybe just maybe their mother could stopped the silly betrothal since their father was no longer in the picture anymore. Cash glanced up to the entrance of the door.
They saw new people coming in but their eyes still scanned for Henry. Cash should have stepped up and played the hostess role since Michael departure. Once the Beater did not find their close friend, Cash feel like the night wore off and ready to go back to their dorm. Their excitement still there but Cash feel like they had enough excitement for this ball. The voice of Kara broke their reverie.
"Oh please, it was my pleasure. I was the one who obviously made the first move anyways, even though I'm a little late since Valentine's was yesterday. But were aren't going to take notice of that now are we, darling~"Kara stated with glint in her eyes and she smirked cockily.
At the mentioned of first moves and Kara nickname for the green eyes, Cash blushed. They remember Kara was the one that lent them her hoodie some months ago when Cash freeze their butt off because they forgot to wear one.
Kara also the one that make the first move to kissed the Beater for the first time when both of the Slytherins visited Cash mother's side of family in São Paulo, Brazil. The purple haired then cleared their throat to lessen their tomato face. "Pffft! Beside Valentine's day is so overrated"They uttered. Then Cash let out a small chuckle.
"You are so adorable, you know that?"They told Kara and give their new lover a brief and soft kiss on her lips. Cash face then become red after they realized what they done. The beater still was not accustomed with the whole love and care. "Hey!"They let out a small playful protest. "I was the one that invited you for our first date, remember?"They expressed.
Cash then looked around as they heard the clock let out a deep low ding. Cash then averted their eyes to Kara. "I think I will go back to my dorm. I do not want to get into trouble"Cash remembered about the new curfew.
"Want to go back with me?"They asked Kara. Whether Kara still wanted to stay or not; Cash will reached out their hand to intertwined with Kara's, so both of them will walked out from the ball hand in hand toward where the Slytherin house is located.

Percival glowered at Pincus, something he had noticed he had been doing quite often. His brows furrowed together with barely contained anger. He so badly wanted to punch off the smug look on the lime-haired boy, but right now was neither the time nor place. The boy was quite infuriating, and it was a wonder why he hadn't just left yet. He simply chalked it up to the idea that he did not want to give the other the thought that he had won. Though, his answer was weak at best. Not truly providing an answer to his question. In truth, he was not really certain why he still stood in front of the boy. Despite the fact that the other would give him wrinkles at this rate.
He brought his hand up to tug on the edge of his left sleeve. Pulling it down slightly with each tug. Using it to give him some time before replying to the boy's latest dig. Percival looked up from his sleeve to give the boy a sharp glare. I highly doubt there is anything wrong with my insults Limehead. It isn't my fault if your vacuous brain cannot keep up. And if you must know no I do not practice on my sister. Seeing how she doesn't exist." he bit out.
Percival frowned at Pincus's words, glancing back towards Shimada. The frown grew into a glare as he slowly understood what the other was implying. "We are acting disgraceful? It isn't disgraceful to point out the truth. Purebloods are simply better. Sure there may be one or two gifted children who are born to muggle parents. Though that's just it. One or two. Few and far between." he snarked. Percival was well-versed in the truths of Muggles and Mudbloods. His Grandfather and Uncle often spoke about them with such disdain. The same disdain that he did his best to emulate.

Kara looked gently into Cassie's eyes, a small smile across her lips. As of now, she was just admiring them. They just seemed...perfect. The girl ran a hand through her hair, trying to fathom how she found someone like them.
Kara had loved a lot of people in her life, but she also lost a lot. It was almost scary getting together with Cassie. She truly cared for them, but she was afraid of losing them. What if suddenly, someone else she loved was ripped from her arms.
She shook her head, trying to clear her head from those...dreading thoughts, now focusing on Cassie's equally teary green eyes. A devious, and quite snarky, idea came to her head. So she decided to see how the words "darling" would affect her newfound lover.
As soon as she had said it, Cassie had immediately started to blush, making Kara giggle while partly covering her mouth with a loose fist. Her gaze was playful, looking as they cleared their throat, trying to not show their tomato face, but failing miserably.
"Pffft! Beside Valentine's day is so overrated" They said, letting out a soft chuckle.
"Eh, that's just your opinion. I quite enjoy the occasion. It just gives me an excuse to mess with you." Kara gave a witty response.
"You are so adorable, you know that?" They leaned down a little to reach Kara's lips before kissing her briefly.
Kara's blush was small, but still evident as she averted her gaze for a second before returning it to Cassie's next words.
"Hey! I was the one that invited you for our first date, remember?"
"Oh yes, you are right about that. Fair point."
The clock suddenly shook the room with a low vibrating tone, addressing the time.
"I think I will go back to my dorm. I do not want to get into trouble. Want to go back with me?" Cassie offered their hand, which Kara intertwined with her own.
"It would be my pleasure."
Kara walked hand in hand with Cassie, returning to the Slytherin dorms. A smile was on her face, this was a night that would for sure be remembered.

"I see," Isaac replied in response to the first year's lengthy explanation. "So then...I assume that since all your time and energy is so intensely focused on 'drawing conclusions based solely on observation', you have yet to learn the art of reading between the lines. Metaphorical lines, that is." He inclined his head, his snide smile as contemptuous as ever. "Not all social cues and meanings can be concluded purely by watching, after all. A certain level of critical thinking is involved, you must understand." His thin smile broadened. "Besides...one cannot go about attempting to survive in polite company by simply conducting oneself as a voyeur. How incredibly distasteful to suggest such a thing."
The older student waved his empty glass vaguely in the direction Michael had gone. "Regardless of his thoughts - or lack thereof - Miller, like you, is still presumably a first year. I don't feign to imagine he had any proper sort of training in his upbringing to understand what it takes to put together something like what he appears to have attempted. Thus, I highly doubt he had any proper objective in mind with this undertaking except to seem impressive to his new club members." Isaac scoffed. "Now he'll be lucky if any of them still decide to stay on as members after this evening..."
The Japanese boy began to talk again. Isaac was beginning to grow weary of their conversation and his smile dimmed.
"That's Pincus to you," he corrected the Hufflepuff first year automatically, looking his nose down at him. "And as a matter of fact...no." The green-haired young man allowed the single syllable to linger in the air for a beat before leaning forward and continuing. "I was raised to know my value and my place. That station of which I belong may be superior in some aspects, but - as I'm sure you're trying to get at - is naturally inferior in others. Therefore, what I make of it is entirely up to me and I may treat others how I please regardless of their own standing." He stared coldly into Kazuo's eyes. "If those I speak to find themselves made miserable by my shallow insults, tormented by my mere words, weakened and hurt and insulted by nothing more than a few exchanged snatches of conversation, isn't it they who are the 'sad' ones? They who make themselves out to be inferior rather than myself?"
He sighed deeply then, tired from the night's vast array of events and social exchanges. "People, to put it simply, are idiots. If my only freedom comes at the cost of being thought of as a 'bully' simply because I speak truths that others can't handle, then so be it. I will not curtail one of the few pleasures afforded to me in life because a whiny first year brat thinks me a sadist." He made a face of slight disgust as Kazuo used his first name so informally once more when speaking to Percival. It seemed even 'Limehead' was preferable to 'Isaac' for him. Still, he didn't comment on it.
Instead, he passed the time watching Percival fiddle with the edge of his left sleeve, pulling it lower little by little.
"Oh, look - 'vacuous'! You know a high-level vocabulary word after all," he spoke with another thin-lipped, condescendingly congratulatory smirk. "The sister bit was hypothetical, by the way. Since you didn't seem to realize that."
With a wide and very obvious yawn, Isaac told the younger students, "Well, as much as I'd love to stay and prolong this scintillating discussion," he drawled, "A student does need to sleep. Good evening, Rainwood. Shimada." He nodded to each in turn with false politeness. "Charmed to meet you both tonight, I'm sure. But, if there is a god...may we never meet again."
And with that, he turned to stalk off.

Kazuo sighed at Percival’s answer, clearly disappointed by the illogical bigotry. It was so far from what he had been taught and so far from a rational position to take. Such a typical, boring response. “Rainwood-san, what precisely makes you better?” He asked with a smirk, eyes lingering on Percival, searching for something in the boy’s response. “Perhaps you should take an actual census of the students. You might find that there are more than ‘one or two’ muggle-born wizards. If you’re interested in adjusting your prejudiced thinking that is. If you’d prefer to dwell in the past and wallow in self-absorbed and indulgent illusions of superiority well... “ He shrugged. ”I suppose that makes you just like all the others. Enjoy your self-made prison.”
He shifted his gaze back to Isaac as the older boy responded. ”Voyeur…” That earned a laugh from Kazuo. If Isaac had meant the word as an insult, it didn’t bother him. He gave Isaac an amused smile as the older boy continued to speak. He also suspected that Miller’s club would likely lose members and attention after this but there was no need to voice that agreement. In fact, the more Isaac spoke, the less interest he had in the older boy. There was a shallowness to Isaac’s words and actions and it made him think he had struck closer to home with his guesses.
“Your value. Your place. Status. Boring words from a boring person. Truths that others can’t handle. What a fascinating defense for being an asshole. ‘One of the few pleasures afforded to me’...” Kazuo mimicked Isaac’s words, snickering. “Any excuse for terrible behaviour, am I right? Who needs to express a wider range of behaviours than cruelty?” Kazuo’s eyes lit up and he smirked. “Isn’t that right, Isaac?” He had noticed, of course, the reaction Isaac had to being called by his first name and just as Isaac seemed to have no qualms about trying to pick out the flaws in others, so Kazuo was more than willing to do the same. ”I admit, it’s so very human, that lazy apathy. Why waste effort if you can wallow in the simplest of gratifications? Although I wonder, when you run out of people to insult, berate and abuse, what will you do for entertainment then? Perhaps beat your servants for entertainment. Or your house-elves? Maybe not… I don’t imagine they can fight back so I suppose that would be boring for you. Can’t crush the already enslaved. Night night Isaac~”
He turned his gaze back to Percival as Isaac decided to take his leave. The false politeness made Kazuo roll his eyes. “Well, he certainly seems to fit all the worst stereotypes of your House. How unfortunate for you that you have to share space with him. Best of luck with that.”
Kazuo glanced around the hall, noting that people had begun to leave. Without a host to guide things, of course they would. Without the host, dinner would never be served and that was the greatest disappointment of all. "Since this ball seems to be officially over, I think I will go find something to eat. The greatest sin of all, leaving your guests unfed. The absolute height of rudeness." He gave Percival a grin, indicating that it was meant as more of a joke than a serious criticism. "Have a good night, Rainwood-san."
