I'm Normal, I Promise...
Gabriella edged open the bathroom door and peered in. Nobody seemed to be in there. She breathed a long sigh of relief. Every time she had checked in there so far, one student or another had been in there - sometimes even a whole horde of them, and she had ended up stepping in, realising that the bathroom was occupied, and scampering off again, hoping nobody had spotted her and thought she was weird.Open for Interactions
She didn't know why she cared about people thinking her weird, mind. She knew perfectly well that she wasn't normal, even by wizarding standards. Her personality was just a bit - off. Unpredictable, some might say. Sometimes bubbly and fun, while at other times, stony-faced and mean. Anyway, nobody's here now to think me weird, Gabriella said to herself. I can do whatever I want...
That was the irritating thing about Hogwarts. As much as she loved magic, and as much as she loved the castle, you could never get any alone time for yourself. At least, back home, she had had her bedroom that she could lock herself into when she wanted downtime. Here, there was no equally private location. The bathroom was the best she could do.
She strode towards the bathroom mirror and lay her satchel on the floor, the heavy weight of her schoolbooks finally leaving her shoulder. She began to slowly roll her shoulders back to relieve them of tension like that annoying Yoga Woman had taught her. At the time, she hadn't been impressed by Yoga Woman - but now, she found, as she rolled her shoulders back and lazily closed her eyes, it didn't seem too bad...
She found herself humming a soft Muggle tune as she did so, timing her shoulder rolls to the music. After a while, she began to sing the lyrics, and the pain in her shoulders was almost gone now. She snapped her dark eyes open to face the mirror and stared straight at the girl who stood therein. The girl stared back. Gabriella realised that the girl in the mirror was quite pretty, and she smirked, cursing her vanity. She really didn't want to be a vain person...
Suddenly, the song in her head came to the chorus and she began to sing loudly. She was totally alone - why did she feel she had to shy away from moments like these? In here, she was alone. In here, she could be a rockstar if she wanted. Gabriella swung her hair round and round in circles, strumming her air guitar as she did so. She had been at school, away from her parents, for a long time now, but never since she came to the school had she felt so totally free to be herself...
She stopped abruptly as the door creaked open.
Even the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.

"Hello? Oh hi! I heard your voice - it is just so pretty! I just wanted to complement you on your voice." The girl said. "Do you plan on singing professionally? I would if I were you!!! Anyway, my name is Bailey Glade. What is your name? I think I have seen you before... Are you a Ravenclaw first year? I am. "
Suddenly, all of the sinks turned on and sprayed the two girls. Totally soaked, they looked at each other and laughed.
“Well that went well.” Bailey laughed “ anyway I didn’t catch your name. Can you repeat it please? Thank you so much!!!!”
Using her wand, Bailey waved it over her robes, instantly drying them “ Do you want me to dry your robes too?” Bailey asked.
Deciding that the girl next to her must be shy or just nervous, she decided to be kind and talk to her. Not intending to make the girl more nervous, Bailey asked, “ Do you have any siblings? I have three younger brothers. They are so annoying sometimes though. Do you have any pets? I did . I had two dogs bet they have both died.”
Realizing that she had probably overwhelmed the girls next to her, Bailey blushed and murmured, “ Sorry if I talk to much. When I get nervous I just blabber on.”

Gabriella's heart seemed to stop as the girl walked in. She had this all completely planned out - she had crept in here in the evening, when she knew the hustle and bustle of school life would be over. She had even planned the best way to sneak out of the common room, despite not having spent time with anyone anyway. How had it not occurred to her that someone else might walk in?
She took a deep breath and attempted to reason with herself. This girl Bailey was being really nice, and she didn't seem to mind at all. In fact, she had just called Gabriella's singing 'really nice'. Surely that was a good thing? "Th-thank you," she said, quietly. "Sorry... I wasn't expecting anyone to walk in." She averted her gaze, and she felt her face go deep red.
Come on, Gabriella. Socialise. Socialise. Socialise.
Suddenly, the sinks turned on. Gabriella squealed in shock. Bailey turned towards her and instantly broke out into peals of laughter - she was obviously a very sociable girl - but Gabriella didn't enjoy it at all. She didn't mind getting wet, but getting sprayed was a totally different matter.
Besides, the humiliation... she had already been humiliated enough when Bailey had walked in on her singing. What is someone else was to come in? What would happen then? They would find two girls standing in the bathroom, sopping wet. And Gabriella would be the taller one, at 5'2"... it was always the same pattern, over and over again. Something humiliating happened. Someone walked in on it. Gabriella was always the one put to blame, because of her height.
She needed to get out, but she also needed to be civil.
"Hi," she smiled. "I'm Gabriella Haworth. And yes, I'm a Ravenclaw first year."

Rachel was quite in a hurry. She was almost late to her next class, it had taken her a bit to clean up after potions class and the had quickly grabbed all of her books. She could have put them in the little bottomless bag, she created with the help of an older student, but she didn't think about it in that moment. Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks when she heard screaming out of .... the girls' lavatory? School could wait. She now had to make sure everything was alright.
"Is everything alri-", Rachel stepped inside to see two Ravenclaws, drenched in what seemed to be water. One of the two girls was laughing at their predicament, though the other didn't seem to be too happy about it. Rachel herself had to watch out that she wouldn't start laughing out loud herself.
"Uhm... here, have a towel. I only have one with me, so you guys'll have to share", she said and started rummaging through her bottomless bag, where she had everything inside one could ever need, including a towel for emergencies like those. Once she had found it she gave the towel to the girl, that didn't look too happy.
"By the way, I'm Rachel, first year Hufflepuff. And you are?, she introduced herself, while the other girls dried off.

Oh no. Oh no. Gabriella's nightmares were coming true. Why did she have to keep being humiliated like this? Why did people keep walking in on her? All she wanted was a bit of alone time... surely that wasn't too much to ask for? Gabriella's insides were screaming at her. This was not a situation she wanted to be in. She hoped her internal struggle wasn't mirrored on her outside, but she could feel herself going pale - or was she going red? She couldn't tell. Regardless of what colour she was going, however, it was definitely showing.
Gabriella's internal cries came to an abrupt halt as Rachel, the new girl, pulled a towel from her bag. It was a small bag, and Gabriella hadn't expected a book to fit in there, let alone a whole towel - yet Rachel seemed to have been rummaging through the bag, as if it was hard to find. "Is that a magical bag?" gasped Gabriella. "That's so cool. I'm Gabriella. Ravenclaw." She felt she should explain why she was covered in water. "It was the taps," she murmured. "They just... turned on... sprayed us with water for no reason." She hoped that would be enough explanation - but what more explanation could she give? That was what had happened, and there was no other way to say it.

Rachel smiled a little when she saw that the other girl had turned slightly red, but she didn’t say anything. She’d probably react in the same way if she was in that situation.
“Yeah, it is. One of the older students helped me with it once I found out something like that exists. You see, both of my parents are muggles”, she explained. “Are you muggle-born, half or pure?”, Rachel asked. Not that it made any difference. She was just curious and thought the other girl seemed quite friendly and wanting to know her better.
“Gabriella, very nice to meet you”, she smiled and held out her hand to shake it. Also, there’s no need to explain the situation, but good to know that the taps are defective. Shouldn’t we talk to someone about that? Maybe mr.Filch? He is the ground keeper after all.
After agreeing on what they were going to do next, Rachel asked: ”Where are you from? I’m from Bromley. It’s somewhere outside of London”, she said and tried to briefly explain where exactly she lived and most people knew exactly where London was so she often used that to explain. “Do you have any siblings?”, she asked in the end.

Gabriella smiles slightly. She may have humiliated herself, but Rachel was nice, and Gabriella felt at ease talking with her. "I'm muggle-born," she explained. "I'm from Portsmouth." She paused, wondering if she should tell Rachel where that was in relation to London as she had. "It's around two hours from London," she said. "Right at the south, by the sea. The English Channel is only around ten minutes' walk from my house. It's nice," she said, "if a bit polluted."
Too much information? Gabriella asked herself. Maybe. Maybe she hadn't needed to speak about pollution...
"I've only been to London twice," Gabriella continued to gabble on. "Once on a school trip to the Natural History Museum in year 4, and once with my family last year. How many times have you been? Oh, an I have a brother, by the way," Gabriella added, answering Rachel's other question. "Jacob. He's eight, and he's adopted. How about you? What's your family like? What's your... blood, or whatever the term is?"
Gabriella was aware that she had just thrown a flurry of questions at Rachel, but that was what happened when she got nervous socially. And she was especially nervous at the moment, sopping wet with water. She really needed to keep a good impression for this girl in the state she was in, and that made her incredibly nervous.

"That's amazing. I've never been to Portsmouth", she said. "But I also agree that we as humans should do something about the pollution, I mean, we only have this world and it's quite sad seeing places, which would be really beautiful, just being dirty in general", Rachel agreed with Gabriella.
"To London? Countless times", she answered. "It only takes about 17 minutes to be in the center of the city, but we usually take the subway, so it takes a little bit longer but it's still nothing in comparison to your distance", she explained.
"Well, my dad's originally from Bromley, so he's English. My mom's originally from Antibes in the south of France and I am bilingual French-English", she told the other girl. "I also have two little sisters called Eden and Savannah. They're identical twins and only 5 years old. So they're quite little, but already really annoying to be honest", Rachel laughed. "And as of now, it looks like I'm the only witch in the family", she added. "What about you? Are you also the only witch or does your brother show any signs? Also, how did you discover you had magical abilities?", she asked. Rachel hoped she wasn't the only one who had quite the wacky experience.

“I’m the only witch so far. I have three younger brothers and they are all so sad that they haven’t gotten their letters yet, but they are still to young. And so ANNOYING!!!! I think it’s cool that you are bilingual. I can only speak English. “ Bailey stopped, panting from talking so much without stopping. “ Sorry. I get really excited sometimes and just won’t stop talking. I kinda cut in too. I just... Sorry. But I just want to make some friends. I don’t have any here really, because I am muggle born. All my friends at home kinda ignored me after the library incident. My parents pulled me out of school-I mean muggle public school- because one day at the library all of these books started swirling around me like a tornado. It freaked everyone out except the librarian assistant. She is a squib and she explained what o was to me and my parents.”
Looking around, Bailey noticed that the walls had a pattern on them, “ and if you look at the wall like this...” At this Bailey demonstrated turning her head sideways “ it looks like music notes kind of. Do y’all play any instruments? I play the piano but I haven’t found a place to practice. Do you know where to practice?”
At this, Bailey decided to keep her trap shut before she scared away possible friends.
Making one more brave attempt at conversion, she timidly asked, “ what houses do you belong? I am in Ravenclaw... Hone of the wise apparently.”

I'm Normal, I Promise...
Gabriella was glad that Bailey had spoken up - there were all sorts of things you could glean from silence, and - Gabriella being the girl she was - she automatically assumed the worst. Bailey thinks I'm really weird and is embarrassed to be in my presence. Luckily, however, that appeared not to be the case, and Bailey had just been using this silent period to come up with a lot of questions.
"Uh, that's a lot of questions," said Gabriella nervously, but I'll try and answer them chronologically." Chronologically? She shook her head, berating herself. Chronologically? You idiot, Gabriella. Why use that word in a social setting?
"I don't play any instruments," said Gabriella, "I'm not really a music sort of person. I LOVE writing though." She paused, wondering whether or not to say what she wanted to say. "I love writing - but - people often tell me I'm not very good." That wasn't strictly true; people told her she was good, but had a much greater talent in painting, but Gabriella - again, being the girl she was - took that to mean that people thought she was awful. "Anyway," she continued, brightening up a bit, there is a place you can practise - the Rehearsal Room. It's on the same floor as this bathroom, actually. Just a little down the corridor and turn left. Oh, and I'm in Ravenclaw too."
Home of the wise, Bailey had said, but in the moment - in the girls' toilets, dripping in water and talking about how she was terrible at writing - Gabriella couldn't have felt any further from wise.
