Quidditch: Slytherin v Hufflepuff Spectators

This is a spectator thread for the Slytherin v Hufflepuff Quidditch game.

The Date: Sunday February 7th.
The Time: 12 noon.
Weather: Brisk, windy and cold. A recent snowfall has frosted the ground in an icy rime.
Despite the chill, students as well as Professors would fill the stadium seats bundled to keep out the chill. It was surprisingly warm, the shared space of so many allowed a sort of comfortable radiant heat to keep the chill down to a reasonable level. The Quidditch players were of course not quite so fortunate. It was bitter cold, the biting winds would make their skin red and chapped. The need for gloves as well as warm clothes made the students appear larger than normal (no statistical effect, this is merely flavor).

Drinks of choice included hot chocolate and tea. Large, cozy mugs were clutched in the hands of many cheering students. They would watch as both teams spilled out onto the pitch. Thankfully it was not them high up in the sky flying about on their broom. The bitter winds that this winter had brought was rather unpleasant. In fact some of the smarter students had even brought with them a throw from their common room that they donned over their jacket. Several Hufflepuffs were cuddling, due to the low temperatures even a few non-Hufflepuffs were engaging in this alien-seeming pastime for the sake of warmth.

Go... Hufflepuff & Slytherin!

Best of luck both the teams. Roleplayers, please remember that you cannot effect the players in the game in any way. As a spectator you are a witness to what happens here. There is no active moderation of this thread, this is simply a roleplay prompt that some of you might partake in.

Piper had not partaken in watching yesterday's match due to her tremendous load of schoolwork. However, this match was one she absolutely had to see. Her last spectating had been on Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, with Ravenclaw suffering a crushing defeat. It was painful to watch, particularly with Pretty Boy there to smugly win with his stupid support of Hufflepuff. Now Piper was attending for two reasons: To watch Hufflepuff pay for their undefeated wins, and to watch Slytherin win. They had to.

It wasn't quite a secret that Piper was no longer a Quidditch fan. In fact, she thought the entire concept was rather stupid. What was the point of racing through the air where it was possible to get basically punched off of one's broom with a hunk of metal? What solicited that risk? The thrill of winning? Well, Piper definitely enjoyed winning, but she didn't see the point of risking all that for bragging rights either. Plus, her encounter with Beckett had made her resolve even more to dislike Quidditch. In any case, the game did exist, whether Piper liked it or not. So she may as well watch it and hope her team destroyed won over its enemies.

The air cast a freezing chill as Piper stepped up onto the stands. It was fortunate she ran so warm; the cold did not affect her as much as it seemed to be freezing everyone else. Piper simply donned a warm jacket (with a cover on top bearing the Slytherin emblem) and jeans, though her only regret was that her hands were cold. She had stopped to grab a cup of hot chocolate beforehand. Drinking in a sip, she nearly spat it out as it burned her tongue. I hate when that happens. Piper shook her head and set the cup under her seat to cool. While the wind was cold and whipped her hair to all creation, Piper was simply glad it wasn't her who would have to fly through it, and that it wasn't pouring rain like last time.

Even though the last match had been a bust (because of both the participants and the outcome), Piper was in a much better mood this time. It would be her own House she'd root for and not someone else's. In fact, Piper wouldn't even be opposed to talking to someone so long as they weren't self-obsessed and would allow her to pay attention to the commentary. Between her first surge House pride and her (unadmitted) excitement about returning to Hogwarts after the holidays, Piper felt as though she weren't a complete outsider.

Today was going to be a hard day for Falentra. Whilst she normally never attended these sort of events, they were becoming a more regular thing and she didn’t particular mind it deep down. Since Howard had joined the Hufflepuffs Quidditch Team, she had been to every one to support him. They were all doing so well, and if luck were on their side for much longer, they had a chance at winning the cup. Unfortunately, today was slightly more awkward on her behalf. He was to be playing her house. Whilst she wanted to support Howard as best as she could, deep down she was to be cheering on Slytherin. She was too house proud to do otherwise.

Unlike the last event, it wasn’t as chaotic, at least not yet. No familiar voices or foreign languages were heard upon arriving. Only small groups forming a circle to stay warm and a few moving around on the spot... probably a mixture of excitement and to keep the blood pumping.

When not in uniform, Falentra was either elegantly dressed or in clothes that were far too big on her and often had dozens rips and tears throughout the fabric. Today she wanted to make an effort. While it wasn’t winter approved, it was...cute. A soft warm black turtle neck jumper, accompanied by a small tight-fitted skirt that were finished off with a thin pair of not-so-torn tights and chunky black boots. She sat herself down towards a more quieter area, as she usually did. With a hot flask in her hand, she made herself comfortable by wrapping herself up in the overly large black coat that was possible the only thing keeping her from freezing to death.

After the exciting game the day before outcome obviously known in character but not yet out of character there was a spring in the first year's step as he approached the Quidditch Pitch. Where some students were enamored with the excitement of dueling, the practice of dangerously slinging spells at one another, he found a sportsman-like aire to Quidditch that he failed to see in other sports. Perhaps it was the team play, the number of moving parts that fascinated him. The coordination necessary was nothing short of a marvel.

Mathias would find a seat next to sour blonde Slytherin neglecting to realize her chagrin and announce in a bit too chipper a voice. "Got to love a good game," he was rather excited about the prospect of seeing Slytherin crush their rumored undefeated' opponent. "Green all the way," he added as if someone posed the question.

He was warmly dressed in a grey wool coat and a dress clothes. He always dressed well, opinions were often regulated by superficial impressions. It was not for the sake of a romantic connection, he was too young to care about that. It had been ingrained into his head from a very young age the importance of status, the importance of how others see him, these were lessons that he took to heart when he was in public. In private, like anyone else he was tragically flawed, quick to anger and arrogant to fault. Distractible and at times lazy, aspects he disliked even in himself when he was introspective enough to realize his shortcomings.

"But hi... to the both of you," he announced as he pulled something from his pocket. It was a couple of almonds that he would pop into his mouth. There was insistence among his family that he must never eat their food, not that he particularly cared or wanted hot chocolate or hot tea. Not that he even cared for the why, he just did as he was told in this regard and carried on with his day. "Yesterday's game was fantastic" probably "but today I am here to show some house spirit."

The previous game had been a grand display and Cade was eager for more quidditch. He was glad he'd gotten all his work done the night before. He was hoping for a nice quick match this time around, it was pretty chilling out and the conditions were surprisingly the same as the last match. Cade spent some time trying to find his only green jumper. Of course today he would be supporting Slytherin. The Badgers were strong in the air, they proved themselves over and over again. Cade finally found a fleece jacket that would suffice both in color and warmth. Pulling on his blue knit beanie, he made for the quidditch pitch.

Climbing up the stands with another cinnamon tea in hand he spotted Mathias Pride whom he met at the last game. "This time is for our dear Snakes." He raised his drink as if making a toast. Cade saw no room closer to the familiar acquaintance so the boy settled next to a girl with a big black coat.

Cade's eyes watched the pitch looking for a familiar face. He spotted Cash in her Slytherin garb and a grin came upon his face. "Knock them down, Cash!" He crossed his fingers for his bandmate. He turned to glance at the quiet girl beside him. "Do you know any of the players, anyone to support?" Cade had room to spare in terms of crossing fingers.

Ah yes, the brute’s pastime. A game of broken bones, loud cheering and boorish insults, and for all intensive purposes, something that an oft antisocial and uninterested individuals such as Leonardo would never even be caught dead at.

So why was he here? Excellent questions but one that the Astronomy Professor had a reasonable answer for. Yesterday had been Saturday, meaning his office times had ended at 5:00 in the morning, thus giving him approximately six hours of sleep before the game was to begin. On top of that, today was Sunday, his day of rest. After the game, he would certainly retreat to his quarters to get a bit more rest before the start of the week kicked off. Also... he had wanted to see how much his house had grown since his graduation, what it was capable of. In a sense, he was obligated to observe what the new generation could bring to the school, and far be it from the Slytherin Professor to ignore his on house, even if he was watching the brutish sport of Quidditch, a game he had never had any love for.

He had taken his place relatively away from the squalor of the general crowd, a darkly clad figure with a small screech owl on his shoulder. His grey eyes were narrow and darkly hooded, half-closed in a mixed effort to stave off the cold and in a feeble attempt to remain awake. He was half curious, half bored; entirely ready to depart at earliest convenience. He made no sound, attempting to tune out the roaring and cheering the the crowd around him. He was a ghost, silent and unmoving.

There was no way that Evelynn was going to miss out on this game. Not that she missed out on any game at all, having made a point to attend every available match since the start of her attendance at Hogwarts in order to study the players and record the various statistics. But that truth aside, this was a particularly important match for her to witness. It seemed that quite unexpectedly over the course of the last year, she had obtained… friends. Several of them, in fact, and this was to be their debut! Well, of sorts, at least. Proccopio had been present in the last Hufflepuff game, but she hadn't actually gotten the opportunity to play. And at that time, she had been in a different role. This time, however, she was a beater. Still on the bench, admittedly, Evelynn reflected with a note of disappointment seeing her friend assuming her rather unassuming position at the side of the pitch, but in the role that Proccopio had expressed a desire to fill. Which was very apt. There was little doubt that the girl was built for it with a cut strength that could likely rival most of the boys at the school. Plus, there was a far greater chance to have the opportunity to see her in action this time.

Second to seekers, beaters tended to be the most attractive targets, as eliminating them from the game provided your own team a certain level of protection. It was quite possible that one of the Hufflepuff beaters might take a fall, leaving Proccopio to take their place. Well, perhaps not Healy. He was a tank that Evelynn decidedly did not particularly enjoy reminding herself of his existence as it brought with it the stark realization that she would be facing the absolutely wrong end of his bat the next time she took to the skies in a Quidditch match. But then again, Ryan was in the air today, and like Proccopio, she contained within her a deceptive strength and wicked aim. If anyone could fell the beast, so to speak, it would be she. Still, it was far more likely that it would be Springhall to take a tumble. Nevertheless, Evelynn had little doubt that, one way or another, her friend would get the chance to test her swinging arm today.

Proccopio was only one of today's individuals of interest, however. Evelynn hadn't even finished picking her way through the stands to find herself a vacant seat before her keen eyes worked to pick out the other. And, like her badger friend, he, too, would find himself serving to warm the bench until such time as his turn came to serve as second. But again, he was in a prime position to do just that. Flash had managed to secure himself the role of second-string seeker, something that Evelynn was only all too thrilled about. Admittedly, she had gushed just a little bit when first she'd seen the updated rosters, making a point to track him down just so she could congratulate him. On the one hand, she held her reservations about it. His role of seeker meant that there would come a time where he and she would likely have to face off against each other, and as she did not particularly enjoy losing, there was a part of her that worried that her competitive streak might come across a bit too strong and stain their relationship. But on the other hand, she was very much looking forward to being able to share her passion for and play quidditch with him. It seemed special, somehow.

Thus, she had attended not just as a studious connoisseur of statistics, but also to support her friend. Silently. Obnoxiously cheering always seemed so undignified.

And then there was the last one that had crossed her radar. Settling into her seat and adjusting her coat and scarf for comfort, Evelynn allowed her scrutinizing gaze to fall on the form of one final benched player. Lestrange. Although she had long ago achieved her personal sense of vengeance having caught the snitch and aided in Gryffindor's victory in their first game of the year, the mockery of his tone had not been forgotten. He'd been rather confrontational, challenging her skill and subtly trash talking her team. She'd anticipated that this trend might continue, especially after he had joined the Headliner and demonstrated a keen interest in writing about the school's sports.

What she had not expected—at all—was for him to turn around and publish in his first article a rather empowering statement about her. Evelynn had been one of the players he had highlighted as being one to watch for, acknowledging her skill in having caught the snitch in the scrimmage match against Hufflepuff. Granted, reading that line had left her with the acute feeling of having been played, given how Lestrange had feigned ignorance of that event when they'd crossed paths at the lake, and had gone so far as to suggest that she would catch the snitch eventually. Still, her ire had been tempered by his consideration to single her out among the three others. Even if it was wrapped with doubt that she'd be able to perform under pressure and tied with the bow of predicting Gryffindor's dreadful loss.

Now it was his turn. Well…not likely, actually. Evelynn couldn't immediately recall a single occurrence of Riddle being thrown from her broom, and so was forced to acknowledge that Lestrange would likely be on the bench for the duration of the game. A shame, really. She'd have liked to see how he performed. Alas, she'd content herself with hoping for a proper debut of two of three, and settled herself in for what was bound to be a rather exciting match.

The Outfit -----------------The Puffer Jacket on over the outfit

Cold. It was just too darn cold. The weather was all Starlee could think about as she made her way down to the quidditch pitch for her second ever Quidditch match. Slytherin had lost the first match against Gryffindor, but Starlee, always the optimist, was sure that Slytherin, and of course Cash, would pull through and beat the undefeated Hufflepuff. There was just no doubt about it.

She pulled her puffer jacket around her even more so, trying to fend off the shivers, as she climbed the long stairs up to the stands. When she reached the top, she surveyed the crowd. She caught a glimpse of blonde hair cascading down a tan fleece jacket and could tell immediately it was Piper. What on earth was she doing here? Starlee thought she didn't like Quidditch... hmph.

Starlee continued searching for a place to sit when she heard someone say a name she was all too familiar with. "Knock them down, Cash!" She located the body belonging to the voice and excitedly ran down to join a fellow Cash supporter.

"Heya! You know Cash? Cash is like... the cooooolest person ever! Mind if I sit with you two?" Without waiting for a response, she sat down next to the two students and continued rambling, as she tended to do when she was in her excitable mood. "I'm Starlee Kennedy, what are your names? I really hope Slytherin wins this time!" She peered over to the older student and took notice of her outfit. "Whoa, I love your skirt!" she said, beaming at her. She faintly recognized her from dueling practices, but they had never been formally introduced. She felt a wave of unease overcome her, but she tried to push it down with a smile at the two.

The former beater was within the stands, watching the team from afar with a faded smile on his face. He had been largely quiet since his departure from the team, personal matters had gotten out of hand. After finding Quidditch to be the one thing he was good at, he worked tirelessly at it with his whole hours being dedicated to the game. The issue was he fell behind on academics and on friendships, he also began straining his arm to the point of where sleeping was becoming difficult. Wounded pride.

His obsession came from his very first year at Hogwarts, where he felt so out of place that he grasped for a reason to belong. But now things were different, being a Beater brought him to new heights but also brought a terrible weight that he couldn't keep up with. Reid wasn't a very gifted wizard, he was average at best, but neither was his studies any better as he flaked on it often. 'I hope they win again.' The young man leaned his arms against the railing and gazed up at both the snakes and badgers. He recognized a few faces, some more than others.

"Let's go!" he whooped. His voice had gotten louder, unbound by any restraint. Reid tapped his thumb against the wood, counting something in his head as he realized how grounded he seems compared to the others. The wind that whipped across his features paled in comparison to the sensation that his broom provided.

The beater exhaled as he closed his eyes, being in the stands was not something he liked. It was so far from the action, so far from the danger, and Mjolnir was simply sitting at his feet. The bat he used that carried him through his games was semi-retired, maintained to the best of his abilities but certainly yearning to come contact with that iron fiend. The student opened his eyes again and began paying attention once more, he wanted to give them his full support.

Mathias would give Cade a thin smile. "I expect nothing less from the winners," casually referred to as 'Slytherin.' He had nothing in his hand to toast in turn but he would grant the Ravenclaw a bow of his head. They had met the previous day in the stands, he had favored Cade's team in the match.

Not all Ravenclaws were 'insufferable,' neither were Slytherins 'bad.' He would occupy himself with the attention of ladies. Good for him... Good for him.

He would cup his hands around his mouth as if it would appreciably amplify his voice and call out into the field "GO SLYTHERIN!"

The call was meant to be powerful but his voice faded and became small. There was this sick, nauseated feeling in the pit of his stomach. It was cold, the hairs on the back of his neck would start to raise. There was this sense of creeping terror that he could not place. He had no reason, at least no logical one to feel this way. His heart would hasten and his mouth would feel dry in a matter that water would not quench. He would look around and wonder why. It was a familiar sensation presumably, as he looked over and saw Professor Chiadovini. There was something off about him, something wrong with him but he was not going to be the one that inquires further.

He would move in the opposite direction hopefully as he found a seat near a boy not inundated with girls, not that girls were gross or anything, just he actually wanted to enjoy a game. A fourth year Hufflepuff, not that he knew the year or the house of the stranger. What drew him next to him was the fact that he was cheering his team of choice on. The fact that they were likely cheering for opposite teams, not that he knew that, was not a deterrent. "Hey," he announced taking a place on the railing next to Reid. "Who are you rooting for, I like the green ones."
