A Cheery Encounter PV Haley Rose Finished

Haley came out of her last lesson for the day and dropped onto her bed for a moment, taking a deep breath. "Finally" she said to the empty dormitory and straightened up again. This week had been more than exhausting. Besides the pile of homework she had had to do, she was still having trouble sleeping. Even though it had gotten better and she was starting to look healthy again, the dark circles under her eyes could still be seen from time to time. It had taken time but Haley had picked herself up and stopped isolating herself so much and started eating more.

But today she had no more plans and that was exactly what she needed. She grabbed the book she was readingAlice's Adventures in Wonderland and put it in her bag. She had started reading it again when she was with Ian in hospital and read it every night she couldn't sleep. The book from her childhood simply had a calming effect on her and she decided to use her free afternoon just for herself again. She wanted to go out, get some fresh air, be in nature and just be by herself and so she made her way out to the Courtyard.

The common room was full and she suspected that some of the students were in the library, but that only served her well. That meant she had a good chance that there would be hardly anything going on outside. She walked happily down the stairs, almost skipping and humming a song to herself. She walked through the big front door and her hope was confirmed. Hardly anyone to be seen - perfect.

She wandered across the courtyard hoping to find the perfect spot and looked absentmindedly at the book she held in her hands. She walked a few metres and just as she ran around a tree it happened. Because her eyes were still on her book and she was once again not paying attention to her surroundings, she suddenly tripped over an obstacle. She couldn't save herself and fell to the ground, but was able to support herself on her arms and her book flew off in a high arc.

Now she lay there, looking after her book and could not believe that she had been so clumsy again. Still propped up on her arms she hung her head but instead of getting angry she started to grin. Her grin quickly turned into a laugh and she shook her head. She had had enough of being in a bad mood and being angry about so many things. But she didn't need to force herself to laugh, she found the situation amusing all by itself. "Well done Haley." She said to herself and now turned around that she was on her back and suddenly she saw what had been her obstacle that she tripped over.

She quickly straightened up and patted the dirt off her clothes. "Oh, I'm really sorry!" she had thought all along that she had tripped over a root or something but it hadn't occurred to her that it could have been someone's legs. She quickly picked up her book, which now looked even more battered than before, and looked at the boy with an apologetic look. "I hope I didn't hurt you! I'm really sorry!"

Maverick had been sitting for sometime, lost in his own thoughts when he felt something hit his legs and saw someone fall in front of him. It startled him slightly, since he wasn't really expecting anyone to come around, much less trip over him. He looked to see a girl around his age, with ginger hair, and a number of freckles. She hadn't seemed to notice him yet, and he heard her laugh slightly.

Just before he could say anything, the girl turned to look at him, apologizing and wiping the dirt off her clothes, apologizing again. " It's alright, are you okay? You had quite the fall there," he asked, not that he much ground to stand on, having face planted moments before. " I probably could have warned you if I had been paying attention, sorry about that," Maverick told the ginger girl, noticing the book that she was holding in her hands know. It looked kind of beat up, probably because she had just dropped it.

Part of him wanted to ask about it, but he wanted to make sure she was ok. Of course, she still looked more put together then he probably did, even after falling. She had even laughed after she had, so he was pretty sure she was fine. He probably would have laughed at his own misfortune if he wasn't so tired of constantly doing it.

The young Ravenclaw boy realized that he should probably introduce himself before he drifted back into his own thoughts and because he had been the reason she tripped. " I'm Maverick by the way, Maverick Anwyll. Sorry again for accidentally tripping you," he introduced himself and apologized again, still feeling bad that he could have possibly stopped that.

Now that Haley had picked herself up and sorted out her thoughts, she looked again at the boy sitting in front of her. She was sure that they had not yet met. His dark messy hair partially covered his eyes, making it difficult for Haley to look him in the eye. Even though she had found the situation funny at first, she was now annoyed that she had fallen over the boy. Just because she hadn't paid attention to her surroundings again, she had probably hurt him too.

"Oh, no, I'm fine. It can happen to me quite often. I'm just a bit clumsy." Haley looked down at the floor a little embarrassed but looked surprised at his face when he apologised. Why was he doing this? This was clearly her fault and he couldn't help it at all. "Oh no, please don't apologise! It really wasn't your fault. I just hope I didn't hurt you in any way." And as Haley looked at him she noticed the scratches on his face. They still looked very fresh and she was sure they were recent.

"Nice to meet you, even if the circumstances could have been a little nicer," she gave him another innocent smile and hoped he didn't hold it against her that she had stumbled across him. "I'm Haley Rose." She smiled warmly at him but quickly her attention wandered back to the scratches on his face.

"Um, but are you okay?" she looked at him a little worried now and pointed to the scratch on his face. She didn't want to be rude and cross any line, after all they barely knew each other but still Haley felt the need to make sure he was okay. What if another student had done this to him? Haley noticed herself getting angry at the thought and quickly shook it off before she got too caught up in something that wasn't the case.

Maverick listened as the ginger girl introduced herself as Haley. After doing so though, she pointed to his face and asked if he was ok. He brought his hand up to his face and flinched slightly as he touched on of the cuts on his face. He had almost forgotten about them until the girl had mentioned them. Maverick was use to getting banged up due to his clumsy nature but that didn't ever make these things less embarrassing and painful.

Maverick smiled slightly, hoping that it would put the girl at ease so he could explain. " Oh this, yeah I'm alright. I kind of tripped over a tree root and fell. It's really fine though, everything will heal so it's not the end of the world," he explained pointing to the tree root that was barely visible as he mentioned it.

He gave a warm smile, or the closest thing he knew to a warm smile. " I'm really clumsy myself, so this is a pretty common look for me," he mentioned, not sure if that would make it any better but it couldn't hurt anything. " Really though, I'm alright. I'm glad your ok even after tripping as well," Maverick reassured her, moving his hair away from his eyes so he could see slightly better. The cuts did sting a little and he was pretty sure that he had gained a few more bruises then he previously had, but other than that he was fine.

Haley noticed Maverick flinch when he touched his scratches and was sure it hurt. When Haley came a little closer and he brushed his hair away from his face, she could see it even better. They were fresh, some of them still showing the blood mixed with the dirt from the floor. She listened attentively to his words as she began to look for something in her pocket. The corners of her mouth turned up slightly as he told her what had happened. Not because she was making fun of him, quite the opposite, it was just nice to know that it wasn't just her. "I can reassure you, you're not alone in being clumsy." She pointed down at herself to signal that she knew it all too well.

She knelt down beside him and smiled at him. She paused for a moment, sure he must think she was weird but Haley had always been like that. When she felt comfortable around someone or felt the need to help someone, she approached them. She always tried to make sure she didn't cross a line but it didn't seem like Maverick was backing away and so she assumed it was okay.

She had taken a tissue from her bag and had moistened it with some water from her bottle. She looked at him now and indicated his scratches with her gaze, "May I?" She knew they weren't bad scrapes but still she was sure it would be more comfortable to clean the small wounds and remove the dirt and blood.

She waited for his reaction before she started to put her plan into action and told something about herself on the side. "I ended up in Gryffindor by the way, first year obviously. And you? And as you can probably see I'm a irish soul" She smiled at the thought of ireland, oh how much she missed it.

After introducing himself, Haley had reassured him he wasn't the only clumsy one which he smiled slightly at. He watched her pull a tissue out of her pocket and at first wasn't sure what she was going to do. He the realized that, after gesturing to his cuts and asking if she could, she was going to use it to clean them up. She sat closer and told him she was a Gryffindor and from Ireland, then asking him about himself. He nodded his head, signaling that it was fine with him if she cleaned his cuts. He was going to clean them later anyway, so doing it now couldn't hurt anything.

Maverick had never been great with people he had just met, but she seemed nice so he didn't mind. He decided he might as well answer her questions as well since there was no reason not to. "I'm a Ravenclaw, also a first year," he told her, gesturing to his school robes which he probably should have changed out of. "I'm from Scotland which may have been obvious from my accent but then again maybe not," he explained, now playing with the end of his robes possibly because he wasn't sure what to do.

The Gryffindor girl seemed nice enough but he had also just met her so his nerves were getting to him. He remembered the book that girl had been carrying and decided that maybe he could ask about it, books always seemed to calm his nerves. "I saw you had a book with you, did you come out here to read," he asked, quickly adding, "You don't have to answer though if you don't want to of course."

After Maverick had nodded to her, she moved a little closer and lightly dabbed the blood and dirt from his face while listening to him attentively. She tried to be as gentle as possible so as not to hurt him and seemed to succeed. When he pointed to his robe she realised that she could have seen that herself but she hadn't noticed until just now that he was wearing his school uniform. "Ah Scotland, I wondered if it was a Scottish accent but I've never been good at recognising the different accents." She shrugged her shoulders and smiled at him.

By now his face was clean again and only the small scratches could be seen now. She put the tissue back in her bag, "Done." She smiled at him again and moved a little away from him. She had the feeling that he was a bit uncomfortable with the situation but Haley wasn't quite sure. At least he wasn't rude or had sent her away so it would be okay in some way.

"Ah, yes. I thought I'd use the afternoon off to spend with Alice." She took out the book she'd brought with her and showed it to him. She didn't know if he knew it, because most wizards or witches didn't know Muggle books but he showed it to him.

"And what brought you here today?" she asked curiously now, still not sure if she shouldn't leave him alone. He probably just wanted to enjoy his peace and now Haley was just bothering him. "If you want your peace and quiet and I'm bothering you, say so and I'll be gone real quick." A soft laugh left her lips. She wanted him to know that he could be honest with her. She could understand all too well just wanting to be alone and Haley wanted to be the last one not to let that happen.

The Gryffindor girl finished cleaning his cuts, and had been surprisingly gentle. She had backed away and pulled out the book she brought, answering the question he had asked. He was now able to see the cover of the book and saw it was a copy of Alice in Wonderland. He had read the book once or twice before. His mom had bought a copy when she was younger and it was actually one of the first muggle books she had ever bought.

Haley then asked what he was doing out here, also saying that if he wanted her to leave she would. He shook his head slightly, he didn't mind if she stayed since she seemed relatively nice. "You're fine, I don't mind you staying," he reassured her, just in case she hadn't understood his head shake. "I kind of came out here to unwind. I was going to read and kinda wanted to look for creatures but just ended up daydreaming after I fell," he explained, opening his book bag, that he almost forgot about, and pulled out his mom's copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them to show it.

"I usually end up daydreaming though anyway so I'm not sure why I brought this," he continued, flipping through the worn pages that were dog eared, and had a number of old notes from him and his mother.

Haley was surprised that he was okay with her continuing to keep him company, but she was happy about that too. Even though she had intended to spend the afternoon without company, her instinct told her that it was the right thing to do at that moment and rarely had her instinct let her down. But she didn't question it further and put her book on the side and turned her attention to Maverick. She sat down in a comfortable cross-legged position and took a sip from her bottle.

She smiled at his words, day dreams, she only knew so well too. She had already discovered a few things in common since their short time together and she was curious what else she would learn about the Ravenclaw boy. Her eyes lit up briefly when he showed her the book. She knew that one too well and the excitement rose in her. "Oh yes, I know that. Have you ever heard of Bowtruckle Island? Oh I want to see one so bad." She was in love with these little creatures but since she was here she had not yet made her way there. She desperately needed to do so, she realised.

Her excitement was written all over Haley's face as she talked about it and she smiled from ear to ear. Maverick's book was also looking a bit battered and she could see that there were some notes and she wondered how much Maverick knew about creatures from the wizarding world. "You've studied that book pretty well, by the looks of it." Her gaze pointed to his book and she winked at him with a smile.
