For a girl of Valencia's demeanor it should come as no surprise to anyone that the girl has yet again found herself in the library. The reason for this not being that she wishes to fit in with her house and portray herself as a smart, pristine Ravenclaw on top of her studies. No, anyone could do such a thing. Sure, she had a lot of things she wanted to prove within the years of her schooling, but simply showing off that she was able to study? No, there was nothing eye-catching about that.
Her real motive, however, was to instead inspect the fellow peers around her. However well she had been doing academically, Miss Deathstout had yet to make any real companions. It wasn't that she didn't wish to, it just didn't seem important at the start of the year.

With a quick push back of her hair, she glanced around the Library casually. There were three types of people as far as she could observe; The students who seemed to be at their tables for hours, posture slumped so badly that it made it hard for Valencia to believe they could simply stand up straight. Then there were the students who were actually putting an effort to focus on the book material, focus so precise it seemed nothing could distract them. Valencia whipped her head around for a moment, her green eyes following the sound of bursting laughter. Ah yes, the final type of students, the ones who simply came to the library to chat. She shook her head softly and stood up, pushing the chair underneath the table as she walked towards a bookshelf. Some of the novels displayed looked as if they hadn't been touched or properly opened in centuries, which was all in all more than likely a true statement.

Though a certain title caught the girl's eye, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. A rather odd title for a book, especially considering she didn't even know what "Wonderland" was. As her head turned the right slightly, she raised a hand, just high enough to reach it. Valencia had never been the tallest girl among her peers, but she wouldn't be classified as short either. As she lifted herself on her tiptoes, she felt her hand brush against the worn cover. Only then, did she feel another hand grab the book seconds before she could.

“Oh, uh!” Wendy exclaimed, realizing that she had grabbed the book the other girl had been reaching for. “Sorry!” She handed it to the other first year. “You can have it, I’m sorry.” Wendy said sorry a lot.

Wendy paused, staring at Valencia with pale blue eyes. “Sorry.. again.” She shuffled her hands and feet, “Have you ever read Alice in Wonderland?” Wendy herself had, it was a very good human -muggle, Wendy, muggle!- book, and the witch was wondering what it was doing in the Hogwart’s Library. Maybe they had human books too? Wendy’s eyes went to the shelves, reaching for a different book. This one wasn’t a human -muggle!- book, it was a wizarding world book.

She looked back to Valencia, and decided that this conversation was over. She probably ruined her chance at making a good impression on the other Ravenclaw -the badge on her uniform told Wendy her house. Another thing, Wendy found it weird that students wore their house badges in their cloaks- and Wendy didn’t want to make the girl dislike her. She probably already did. The student in front of her seemed like one of those kids who acted cool, and mean. But Wendy was just probably basing it off of appearances. And she didn’t really want to stick around to find out. Valencia was a bit intimidating to Wendy.

“Well, uh, I should go now.” Wendy flashed a very very very nervous smile and turned around.

Valencia's eyes widened as she watched the other girl pull back from the book, noticing her expression wore one of embarrassment as well as timidness. The Ravenclaw stared at the book being held out to her, and it would certainly be rude not to accept something that was being given? Valencia returned a smile and reached for the book, holding it out in front of her as she looked back to her fellow housemate.

"I'm afraid I've never read it, or known of it's existence for that matter." She said simply, glancing at the book once again to look at it's cover. There appeared to be a young girl displayed on the front, with a blue dress and a white apron draped across it. Nothing too odd about that, so she could only be left to imagine what sort of story lie in between the pages with a wondrous name like "Wonderland". It was undoubtedly a muggle story book, as the wizarding world didn't fancy fantastical and fictional stories much. Valencia raised her eyes back up once more, only to find she couldn't quite meet Wendy's. Was she scared of her? Intimidation had certainly been one of Valencia's strong points, but only when she wished to do so. Right now she only wanted to converse with this girl, so what was making her so unapproachable? There was no way she knew about.. No. It would be impossible to tell such a thing upon their first interaction. It wasn't that she was scared about being who she was, it was the fact that other people tend to grasp the wrong idea. She wasn't dangerous, and anyone who said differently would be considered a liar.

As she shifted stances, now leaning against the bookshelf, she opened her mouth to speak again. Though it seemed the girl had a different plan, turning her back away. Valencia had never been one to chase after people, as what is the point of forcing someone who is so obviously uninterested to converse with you? With a raised eyebrow, she watched Wendy make an attempt at leaving, a shrug coming from Valencia as she thought nothing of it. Though in a split second, a sudden urge to actually befriend this girl stood in place. Valencia bit her lip for a moment, and then focused her eyes back on the Ravenclaw.

"Wait-" She called out softly, shocked at herself for even taking the risk to call her back. She didn't wait for her to respond, to react, even to keep on walking. "If you've read it, perhaps you could tell me about it? Or, any other.. muggle books you'd recommend." It was unlike her to act so desperate, but it wasn't so much desperation as it was curiosity. Curiosity, and well, the urge to actually make a friend.

Wendy turned back. Maybe she shouldn’t have judged on appearances after all. “Uhm, sure.” Wendy said as she smiled awkwardly.

Deciding that Wendy should probably tell the girl her name, “I’m Wendy Little,” She added. Walking back to the other Ravenclaw, Wendy also said, “It’s a very good book. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. A classic, actually.” Wendy paused, “Sorry.. about leaving. Anyways, what’s your name?” Wendy’s eyes flickered around, and then met Valencia’s gaze, her nervousness showing, but also a curiosity and excitement. “It’s fictional, as I’m sure you can tell. Another muggle story about magic and fantasy..” that they got wrong, Wendy added in her head, finishing the sentence. So far only a few muggle ‘theories’ about magic had been right. Witches wear weird cloaks and black pointed hats. Check. They have magic. Of course, why else would they be called witches? But they aren’t evil! Not all magic is evil. There’s good magic too. Get off the topic of evil magic, Wendy, she thought to herself.

“I was surprised to see a muggle book here, actually.” Wendy smiled faintly, “Do you think they use it for muggle studies? I’ve heard that’s a class. Must be so weird for muggle-borns to attend it.”
