What now?
Elysia sat down at a nearby table and slammed her bookbag on the table, once again trying not to cry at the amount of Potions homework she already had. As she had feared, the class had turned out to be a rather confusing one, and she was already mixed up as to the difference between the Forgetfulness potion and the last one that the professor was talking about--she'd already forgotten the name of it.
The only thing that had kept her from losing her sanity altogether was the fact that she had been seated next to another first-year who had been equally confused.
Deciding to forget about potions for the time being, she took out her Herbology textbook and opened it up to the first chapter, becoming engrossed with the overview of the topic. The chapter on Devil's Snare in particular caught her attention. Mum would love to have some of these plants in the house, she thought, reading up on some of the healing properties of magical plants. Then, remembering that her mother wasn't exactly the biggest fan of magic, she sighed and rolled her eyes. She has no idea what she's missing out on. Some of these plants could help her out with her work.
Suddenly remembering that she needed to write her parents and tell them about her journey to Hogwarts and where she'd been Sorted, she grabbed some parchment and her quill and ink and began to scribble furiously. She'd send her owl, Mage, with the letter in the morning. Hopefully, her dad, a former Slytherin, wouldn't be too upset with her House.

What now?
Ami rubbed her eyes tiredly, sticking her finger in her book to mark her place. Although she a) didn't look it and b) would never admit it, she was stressed beyond belief. She didn't have a schedule, knew no one, and cripes' sake, she didn't even know where her bed was! So, like she always did when running from a problem, she picked up I Am Half-Sick of Shadows and started reading. She got lost in the world of Flavia de Luce for the hundredth, possibly millionth time, and when she, at last, looked up, she was in a room she didn't recall walking into and sitting at a table she didn't recall choosing. Ami looked at her watch and groaned. She'd read straight through lunch (which wasn't unusual), but she'd meant to send an... uh, what was it again? A falcon? No, an owl, that was it. She'd meant to send an owl to her mother, and maybe one to her father if she felt up to the task.
She'd felt a bit of a reprieve bashing it out on the piano earlier, but now she was cranky, hungry, and stressed. She set her book down and rubbed her eyes again, not noticing the girl sitting next to her. She had half a mind to tell her mother to send her back to America and let her accept the scholarship, but then again, she'd promised she'd give this Hogwarts thing a try.
