Her spell was successfully casted, but…WAIT.

-Why did her wand pointed at…Anastasia’s shoe???

Okay, okay, it’s no doubt that shoe was indeed a small object, but it was not Lindsey’s intention. She hoped to cast on a candle, a door handle, a small rock, or everything — but definitely not someone’s shoes.

It was good that Beckett had dodged successfully. Lindsey wasn’t surprised by it at all to be honest, since months ago Anastasia had dodged her attempt of dragging her when she attacked Scarlett like a furious grizzly bear. Hopefully she wouldn’t get annoyed this time…Lindsey didn’t want to get into a fight with Ana, as clearly it was not the appropriate time for fighting. They had to solve the mystery instead of wasting time.

“I — I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to…” she said softly, but couldn’t continue soon. So Lindsey disappeared from Anastasia’s sight soon and appeared at the other side when the Matagot darted out. “Hey — no!” she called out in horror as it attacked an unfamiliar girl. The one that had been always beside Scarlett’s side.

Speaking of companions, she searched for Wyatt. It was truly a bit disappointing when she didn’t have him in sight. Maybe she ran off too fast when they were at the missing portrait’s location…or maybe he didn’t catch her explanation of moving on. But anyways he wasn’t there. He wasn’t around, fighting alongside with her. It was…disappointing, indeed.

She rubbed her eyes. No. She didn’t have time to think of Wyatt now. If he was there, it would certainly be much better, but if he wasn’t, she could fight on her own as well. Steadying her mind, chocolate brown eyes fixed on the massive cat. It was furious, for now. Scarlett tried to cast an offensive spell on it. Elisabeth (or Elizabelle? Lindsey couldn’t remember it clearly) whom she had met in the beginning of this school year as a child of her grandmother’s friend was trying to tackle Scarlett to stop her. And a foreign boy was attempting to calm the cat down. Attacking it wasn’t really a top choice, as Lindsey knew that the cat would become even more furious after being attacked. But…what if Scarlett’s spell hurt some other people? Or the cat decided to attack some others?

She turned, unable to watch or think anymore. It was horrible. Suddenly she caught a glimpse of someone trying to sneak into the office while others were busy fighting. There’s a girl, who was probably younger than herself, and Ami Procoppio her Quidditch co-cap. Lindsey had to agree that it was a smart act and she was going to follow. Yeah, she had to explore the office before everyone started darting in — although danger might be in front of her. What’s in the office? She had to protect her classmates, her peers, her school, her everything. And to achieve this, the top choice was to investigate first.

“I’m coming along, Cap.” she whispered, mostly to herself. Clearly Ami couldn’t hear her, but never mind —

She followed.

But suddenly Lindsey remembered something. Her friends, her peers, being attacked (or possibly attacked) by the Matagot. If she was running off first, what would become of them? She had to investigate, and help them as well. So she turned around and raised up her wand, pointed at the Matagot.

“Immobulus!” she yelled, very fast but clearly.

Then she turned. With a satisfied smile, her chocolate brown eyes sparkled. Sweeping some golden brown curls to her back (oh yeah, although her hair’s tied somehow), she quickly raced into the office, attempting to catch up with the other two.

Actions: Attempt to disarm Scarlett before she casts the spell, by pulling the wand out of her hand
Gaiz Toa once again refused to tell the girls anything, and Cassie wasn't at all surprised. She unleashed a flurry of insults in French that weren't nearly as good as she thought they were (the most effective being "Well maybe if your own head wasn't so big you'd see that there's more at stake here than your fricking love life!") but, surprise, surprise, none changed anything. But then, Toa turned on the cat and everything changed.

Firstly, Scarlett noticed that the painted wizard might have let something slip and Cassie's eyes widened. "Oh goodness, yeah!" she agreed enthusiastically.

But then the cat sprung towards Toa, or at least that was what Cassie thought was happening. "Here, have him," she said in disgust, going as far as to even hold out Toa's painting out to the cat, forgetting about it's other occupant. But - "Oy!" - it sprang for Cassie instead and though Cassie tried to dodge the painting made her reflexes slower and- "Ow!" The cat scratched at her legs and one began to bleed. Immediately, Cassie dropped the painting face-down on the floor and clasped a hand around the bleeding leg, wincing and letting out a gasp from the slight pain. "You're Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin, not some idiot first-year," she muttered to herself. "Get a grip!"

Luckily, she was so preoccupied with not showing weakness in front of all these Hogwarts students that Cassie didn't hear the black-haired first year talking to Scarlett. When the girl came over to her, Cassie tried to scowl but it can out as a grimace instead. "I'm- I'll be fine," she said fiercely. She had been about to say I'm fine, but that wasn't true, for now at least. Still, though, she took the girl's advice and rummaged about in her bag for something to wrap around her leg. Annoyingly, she didn't find anything except her wand, a whoopie cushion, two crumpled tissues (she hovered over this for a moment, then discarded them back into her bag) and three hair bobbles. Short of ripping off a bit of her dress, which Cassie was seriously considering, there wasn't much that she could do without the knowledge of any healing spells.

At least she knew what the cat was now. The close look showed her that it really was a Magot. They were used to guard something in France, one of Cassie's friends had told her, and became more aggressive with every attack. Cassie had even heard that the cats absorbed the spells and multiplied themselves with each one, or grew stronger, but she didn't know whether to believe it or not.

Then something else happened. The girl who had been helping her screamed and Cassie spun around, wincing on her leg, to see Scarlett's wand raised. Her friend opened her mouth, and Cassie suddenly realised what was happening. "Scarlett, NO!" she screamed and rushed towards Scarlett, forgetting her leg, forgetting her bag and the painting which both lay on the floor, forgetting everything except the danger her friend was in. "Scar, it's a Magot!" she shouted, "They get stronger every time you try hurt them! SCARLETT!" As soon as she got to Scarlett, she attempted to pull the wand out of her friend's hand.

FOURTH LOCATION

@Percival Rainwood just arrived at the corridor when the action had started. And one thing was completely clear to him: cats were gross and this one didn’t look friendly at all. But after all he wasn’t here to follow or fight cats, he was on a date. Though his special lady seemed to have gone lost on the way here. Where was @Opeila Winters? Did she leave him on purpose? Maybe he should leave and look for her. Sure boy, the other people will deal with the scary cat, you go and try to fix your broken heart.

Gregorí Erkens (@Ginevra Tsuchiya) on the other hand tried to take charge. Hadn't he emphasized that they should not provoke the Matagot? Well, it seemed that he had to get to know the students and also the paintings of Hogwarts. Even after the cat had attacked the boy wouldn’t give up on trying to solve this peacefully - he had managed to calm the creature down once already. Why not try to do that again and thus save them from more trouble? This cat had proven that she knew how to use her claws.
Charisma Roll (DC 20+2 (Lovely Creature)): 23
Even though the situation was stressful and the Matagot wasn’t in a conciliatory mood, the Ilvermony students seemed to have some kind of connection with the creature. As he spoke to her with his calm and soothing voice, the black cat broke her aggressive attitude and allowed him to scratch her ears with a ‘Meow’.
Now only the painting had to disappear as quickly as possible. But Gaiz didn’t say a word. He just clinged to the frame of his painting and stared at the Matagot, his face pale and shocked.

@Scarlett Aden didn't wait for Gaiz to upset the creature, but being a hot-tempered Gryffindor, she dropped the conversation with him immediately after the Matagot had attacked her friend. She could not let that go unpunished! Despite Gregorí’s warning, she raised her wand, determined to hurt the creature. Both Elisabeth and Cassie were on their way to stop her, but they were too slow.

Matagot Evasion: 20 → spell misses
The incantation came quickly over her lips and a blue flash of light shot from her wand towards the Matagot. The magical cat was on its feet in the blink of an eye and pranced to the side, now its ears again aggressively bent and its teeth bared. The spell shot between her and the Ilvermony student without hitting either of them. But one thing was clear: The attack had angered the Matagot and Gregorí's calming intervention had only had a brief effect.

@Elisabeth Erner was mainly concerned about the health of everyone involved. After briefly checking on Cassie’s injur she had only the time to turn around and see the chaos unfolding. As she realized what Scarlett was about to do, she tried to stop her or at least turn her wand waya so the spell won’t hit the Matagot, or even worse, Gregorí.
When she reached the Gryffindor and tried to snatch her arm, the damage had already been done.

Still, she would manage to catch and hold the arm of the impulsive Gryffindor. Thus preventing her from casting another spell she turned to @Callista Lovis and told her to hide the painting before the situation would escalate even more.

Cassie Heather McGregor-Martin (@Lucia Fox) hid her pain like a true hero. Instead of striking back she had put the painting down and briefly checked on her injury. But as Elisabeth she was quickly distracted by her friend’s actions. And as the caring Hufflepuff she took a similar approach: Trying to stop Scarlett with physical force.
She reached the girl just a second after Elisabeth and reached for her wand.

Damage: Cassie bleeds: 25 dmg
Remaining health: 675/900
She grabbed it and tried to wriggle it out of Scarlett’s hand, but even though another girl already had grabbed her arm didn’t mean the Gryffindor would give away her wand just like this. Her grip was tight and when Cassie realized that she was in danger of breaking the wand, she had to let it go. Although the adrenaline was pumping through her veins, she felt the dull pain and felt the blood dripping from her wound onto the floor.

@Ami Procoppio had no interest in being involved in the fight, nor did she care about the damage that was done. There was always collateral damage. Much more she knew how to use this situation for herself, now that the cat was obviously distracted.
Stealth Roll (DC 20): 21
The Hufflepuff actually managed to slip past the Matagot into the office. She could only roughly make out the shadows of a few pieces of furniture, otherwise everything was completely dark.

@Piper Clark’s first attempt to do the very same thing had been thwarted by the creature. But she also decided to take advantage of the general confusion and tried to follow Ami. If she had made it, then why not her?
Stealth Roll (DC 20+1(Alertness Matagot)): 14
Either the Matagot hadn't really let her out of his sight since her first attempt to sneak into the office, or the cat had remembered why she was here. Anyway, she hissed at Scarlett once more and then made a huge leap that sent her right to the door of the office and Piper's feet.

@Lindsey Springhall had quickly recovered from the fact that her spell had not worked. She seemed to be one of the few students who knew how best to deal with these creatures. No aggressive spells.
When she saw her captain slip into the office, she set off at the same time as the Matagot to follow her. But she would try to stop the cat.
Lindsey casts Immobilus (DC 10+2 (Lovely Creature)): 11 → fail
her wand lit up briefly, but for some reason the spell didn't work this time. She came to a stop next to Piper and faced the Matagot, who was now not at all amused, blocking the door. There was no way through here anymore.

The Matagot had her piercing blue eyes fixed on the two students.
Choice of reaction: attack, hiss
She hissed at them and showed her pointy teeth.
WHAT HAPPENED SO FAR…
Reducio
  • A ghost appeared in the Ballroom, proclaiming warnings of doom and tragedy, and challenged students to solve the mystery. He pointed to a silvery ghost cat as the guide, who at this point, has been named Star.
  • Several students noticed odd things about the ghost:
    • Dmitri Jones and Kara Capricorn shared that they noticed a crest on his robes that was later identified as stemming from the St. Mungo’s Hospital.
    • Howard White noticed the Hufflepuff crest on his robes, but only shared this with Falentra Black, somewhat separate from the main group.
    • Romeo Marchonné remembered odd silver stains on the ghost’s sleeves and told his companions about them… blood, maybe?
  • The ghost cat led you to a painting, depicting a man who obviously had been attacked and was fighting for his life - but healing and repairing proved fruitless. Could anyone save him?
  • Several students noticed odd things about the painting:
    • Anastasia Beckett, Andrew Vance and Dmitri Jones pointed out an inscription below the painting: “Paran Taja saves Laiks Denbora”. Who was the man in the painting? Why was no one saving him?
    • Dmitri Jones also noticed that the painting composition seemed somehow unbalanced, as did Sapphire Riddle. Maybe something was missing here!
    • Andrew Vance pointed out a streak of blood on the floor of the painting. Maybe there had been a struggle? Had someone been dragged away - but by who, or what?
    • Aida Mòrsgor-Ama Ellwood made anyone listening aware of a scrap of fabric on the floor in the painting, red in colour, and depicting a lion. Odd.
    • Both Soren Silverwood and Callista Lovis had the idea to talk to nearby portraits to find out what had happened here. Both were pointed towards a painting that was supposed to be near the Gryffindor Common Room.
  • The Gryffindor Common Room? Martyna Romero took the lead and ran off in this direction. It appeared that Star agreed with this, as the cat followed Tina’s departing steps. Star led the party to a painting near the realm of the Brave.
  • There were several things that the students found out from this second painting:
    • The man depicted in it was called Gaiz Toa.
    • It didn’t take much prodding for him to admit his intense dislike for Paran Taja, that damn goody-two-shoes who always came running when someone called his name, and Laiks Denbora, who had apparently stolen his girl. Yes, obviously Denbora deserved to be stabbed for that - a deed Toa seemed to be rather proud of. The painting of the girl, Giselle could be found in the next corridor over.
  • Some yelling and fighting ensued when Robert Toukmond decided to set the painting on fire but it was quickly extinguished, only a corner of it burnt. Needless to say, Gaiz Toa was not pleased.
  • But Martyna Romero, again, had picked out a new location from the painting’s ranting, and set off to find the painting of his lost lady-love, Giselle, Star in tow.
  • The painting, however, was gone, an odd note in its place. It took some brainstorming, but finally, the group figured out the meaning behind the obscure hints: It directed them to the Caretaker’s Office. But what would they find there?
  • As soon as they managed to open the door, a black cat with blue eyes, identified as a Matagot stepped out and blocked the door.
  • After being provoked by Gaiz the Matagot attacked the students.

[*]The Matagot is blocking the door again.[/list]

One thing after another happened, as quick as the wind. The painting man had angered the Matagot. As the hair on it's back rose, Callista's eyes widened, knowing what was about to happen. But the creature didn't attack the painting. No, it attacked the girl who was holding Gaiz Toa [Cassie Heather McGregor Martin].

Immediately, it set off a chain reaction. From her spot by the door, she watched as the American boy [Gregorí Erkens] attempted to calm the furious creature - while reminding the crowd to stay calm and not provoke it any further. Clearly, the red-head that was standing next to the injured student [Scarlett Aden] wasn't listening.

Both the other Asian girl [Elisabeth Erner] and the injured French girl [Cassie Heather] attempted to stop her, but the blue light fired off. The Asian girl called to Callista to take the painting away. Unfortunately, the young girl was watching the chaos unfold with wide eyes. Besides, the painting looked quite heavy, and Gaiz Toa looked petrified.

She did, however, catch what the French girl said. They get stronger the more you try to hurt them? So it wasn't just about pride - they physically grew stronger the more you attempted to cast at them?

Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted an older girl [Ami Procoppio] (when did she get here?) and the same girl from before [Piper Clark] try to slip into the office. The older girl just barely got inside, but the Matagot whirled around and hissed - again - at the younger girl.

The hiss brought Callista out of her stupor. To the French girl, she said gently, "Are you alright? I don't have anything on me right now to treat the bleeding, but if you're careful, it won't get infected, and it should stop by itself." She decided not to wonder if Matagot claws were poisonous.

Focusing on the man in the painting, she said in the same soft tone, "Sir Toa, if you could please try not to anger the Matagot, that'd be wonderful. You saw how close it came to harming you." She turned to the others. "Would anyone be willing to take him back?"

And now to focus on the most important thing. Reaching out slowly to the giant cat-like creature, she murmured quietly, trying to soothe the Matagot's nerves. Slowly and carefully, she reached out to pet the creature. "Shh, nice kitty..."

Her eyes strayed to the older student [Ami Procoppio] behind the Matagot. "Are you able to light up the room?"

Actions: finally realise this isn't a game, try and probably fail to emotionally support Scarlett, use two tissues and a strip of fabric from her skirt to make a bandage to attempt to stop the bleeding.
Cassie couldn't get Scarlett's wand off her, but her friend had already cast the spell. "Goodness," she murmured to herself as she saw the Magot obviously angered by Scarlett's attempt. "We're in deep poo." Very astute observation, Cassie Heather.

Cassie didn't turn to Scarlett, but rested a hand on her friend's shoulder, both giving the lioness some emotional support and physically supporting her own bleeding leg. "Thank you," she said softly. It was a wonderful feeling to know that, even after over a year of no contact, Scarlett would still defend Cassie just as Cassie would defend Scarlett. "But- you're very lucky that missed, I think," she added, then winced. That should probably have gone unsaid.

The girl from the corridor where Giselle's painting should have hung, who had called Cassie a genius, offered the muggleborn a word of comfort. "It hurts," Cassie said honestly, "But I'll be fine." Wait... infections? "Gosh, I hadn't thought about infections. Thank goodness it won't..."

Still, though, maybe it was time to try and help her own injury. "Scar, I'mma be over here, 'kay?" Cassie told her friend, and made her way to the opposite end of the corridor to the Magot, though not before grabbing her bag from where she had abandoned it. The Beauxbatons student sunk down onto the floor and took another inventory of what she had.

Wand - Cassie didn't know at healing spells. Did such spells even exist?
Whoopie cushion - Did those things actually have any practical use?
Two tissues - She could use them to soak up the blood, right? Maybe?
Three hair bobbles - Where did they come from?

Looked like there was only one option, then. Cassie set the tissues aside and packed everything back into her bag, then ripped off a strip of light fabric from the skirt of her dress. It was now just knee length and rather ragged, and Cassie winced to think of what her mum would say, but decided that Mrs McGregor-Martin would probably rather have a dress ruined than her daughter keep bleeding.

Cassie pressed the tissues to the wound, gasping a little, and wrapped the fabric around it. Quickly, she tied a double knot and looked it over. It would do for a makeshift plaster... she hoped.

Mentioning a ton of people

It happened all at once - Scarlett raised her wand and shouted the incantation and - yes! - it was working. In her rage, she barely noticed people trying to grab onto her, but did hear her name being called once or twice. Her actual name, being called by Cassie, who always called her Scar. The strangeness of it jerked Scarlett from her aim and the cat gracefully pranced out of the way of her spell, albeit a little disgruntled. By then, the Asian girl had already grabbed her arm, so Scarlett couldn't do anything else. Scarlett glared at the Asian girl. Though it wasn't her fault, she needed someone to blame that wasn't Cassie or herself.

"Fine, fine, I won't try and attack the Matagot," said Scarlett, venom in her tone, directing it towards the other girl. She wrenched her hand away and started to walk backwards. "See! Nowhere near the crappy cat!"

She gritted her teeth. What was it Fiona had said about anger issues? Right. Deep breaths. Deep breaths. In. Out.

Once the initial adrenaline was over, Scarlett finally tuned in to what Cassie was saying. "Yeah no problem," said Scarlett, wincing at the dripping blood. "Lucky that I missed."

Cassie answered another Asian girl before telling her that she would be over away from the big action, just to try and bandage her leg. Scarlett gave a nod and a thumbs up before turning back to the blood splattered on the floor. Scarlett didn't wince easily, and she didn't wince now. But that blood was Cassie's blood. It was hard to look at. And she didn't know any healing spells, but at least she could clean up the blood. Though she also might miss again - the spell might not even work, but Scarlett tried not to think about it.

"Scourgify," muttered Scarlett, pointing her wand down at the floor.

"Awww, a kitty!"

A girl came up beside Elisabeth Erner, gasping at the sight of the Matagot and the students surrounding it. She tucked the stick on which her Cheshire Cat mask sat under her arm before moving to snap pictures of the entire scene before her with the instant camera hanging at her side. She snapped picture after picture, making sure to catch every single one as it was taken so she could wait for them to develop as she waved them in the air.

"Everyone looks like they're having so much fun! I thought the ball and party were the other way, though," the purple-and-pink-striped girl announced. "Oh...we have Ilvermorny students here too?" she noted, giggling when her twinkling eyes alighted upon Gregori Erkens as if she knew something he didn't. Then she attempted to snap another picture of him for good measure before teasingly waving a finger at him as if to scold. "Naughty, naughty..."

After that, however, her gaze drifted to the door that Ami had managed to slip through to make it into the castle caretaker's office. She crept closer curiously, peering into the office herself, before thinking she caught sight of a shape that might have been the stray student and attempted to snap a picture as well.

"Speaking of being naughty..." the girl bubbled, giggling as if Ami venturing into the office was the the setup for some extra secret prank that only she was privy to.

The redhead seemed to get more senses now; she dropped her arm and retreated with her friend, the hurt foreign student who now was trying to nurse her wound by herself. She looked fine and definitely would easily get a support from her friend if she needed any, so Elisabeth decided to leave the two alone; either way, she did not seem to get on their good side despite her attempt.

The girl whom she had asked to move the portrait requested someone else to do it instead, and then proceeded to trying to calm the Matagot down just as Gregorí had been trying to do all this whole time.

Even though the situation did look improved - at least slightly - by now, Elisabeth suddenly felt angry. Why do teenagers tend to let their pride and emotion get the best of themselves, only to regret it later?

Her glance softened as it rested on Gregorí. As always, the Mexican was una gracia salvadora *) in this chaotic evening. The Hufflepuff was so glad that he was unharmed - not from his attempt to directly calm the Matagot, not from the misfired spell cast by the hot-headed redhead she had tried to stop earlier.

Carefully as not to startle or provoke its subject, Elisabeth approached the abandoned painting of Gaiz Toa and gently turned it face-down to the floor. It supposedly ought to be enough to help calm the Matagot...

A purple-dressed girl, assumedly from the costume party, suddenly appeared beside our eleven-year-old, as if by Apparition. She snapped pictures everywhere, and this made Elisabeth felt offended once again. Who did she think she was that she had the right to take Elisabeth's picture? Quickly, she turned her face away so as not to face the girl's camera. Well at least she would not get any picture of her face...

As if hypnotised to play dumb (unless she really was dumb), the mysterious student approached the door of Mr Paine's office. She was not with them even from the start, so how could she get here? Apparate? They said one could not apparate at Hogwarts... And either way, was she actually an adult pretending to be a kid that she had this ability? What was she trying to do, taking another picture of the caretaker's office - or the Matagot? Elisabeth was tired and could not care less about what was going to happen.

From the corner of his eye, Gregorí noticed that someone had successfully entered the caretaker's office unnoticed by the Matagot. He remembered that student not only as somebody who had elbowed a fellow Hogwarts pupil so she could cast Lumos Maxima to peer at the office, but also as the fourth-year from the corridors who had hot-headedly punched a second-year with no clear reason (at least it appeared so for Gregorí). "She seems to have more muscles than brain cells," the Horned Serpent said inside his head. And now that she was the only one who had managed to go past the Matagot and entered Mr. Paine's office, he certainly hoped she could at least use her one and only brain cell to do anything useful - looked for Star the ghost cat for example, as the horse-riding ghost had explained that the kids had to follow Star since she was their guide.

The raven-haired girl Elisabeth had requested a help from earlier turned to ask another to fulfill the part-Veela's request and instead turned at the Matagot, calling her a "nice kitty" and shushing her. The fantastic beast herself was now hissing at two students in front of her, both of whom had tried to get pass her and get into the caretaker's office together with the fourth-year.

Gregorí noticed Elisabeth turn the painting to face the floor now. Just as he was about to approach her, another girl joined the group, and he was too surprised to not focus at this sudden presence. She had not been with them at all since the beginning of this game (or was it really a Halloween game?), so where did she come from? Did she have the ability to enter without being noticed in general, using this as an advantage to surprise the others? She was dressed in purple and pink, and in her hands was a Muggle camera - clearly, she was familiar with the instrument - perhaps she was a Muggle-born (like Gregorí himself) or a half-blood. It took the Ilvermony boy some time before realizing this pupil was dressed like the perpetually-grinning cat from the Disney adaptation of Alice in Wonderland - her grin tickled something in his subconscious mind.

"Oh...we have Ilvermorny students here too?" she remarked as she saw the Mexican, giggling as if she knew something that he did not. How did she know that? Well, perhaps she had seen him arriving with his fellow Ilvermony lot, but why did she need to giggle like that? Unless of course -

A man who helped him the first day he arrived at this school. His carefree behavior and wide grin. His remark that he had a younger sibling studying here.

Was she Kit Paine's sister?

Did he tell her Gregorí was an Ilvermony student, and that was how she found out? She giggled because she knew who he was - the ill boy helped by her brother on the day the Ilvermony group arrived at Hogwarts - but not vice versa, that she was his sister?

Gregorí was tempted to ask so, but remembering Mr. Paine's words that his sibling did not wish to be associated with him at the moment, the Mexican boy decided to respect this wish and said nothing instead.

The mysterious pupil walked with such ease toward the office, ignoring the Matagot, strengthening Gregorí's guess that she and Mr. Paine were related.

He turned to the two students currently facing the magical feline (Piper Clark and Lindsey Springhall). "I don't think she (the Matagot) will let you pass just now," he tried to reason with them. He gestured at the laughing pupil and suggested to both Lindsey and Piper, "Try to get at the cat's good side. (Or that student's. If she's Mr. Paine's sister, the Matagot certainly knows her and will let her pass.) Maybe this way she'll let you in."

Holding her breath, Ami waited for the perfect moment to arrive before choosing to slip into the Caretaker's office. Apparently, two other students had attempted to follow her, but she paid them no mind. Judging by the cat's enraged reactions, they had both failed, which brought a certain sense of schadenfreude to her. Snickering under her breath quietly, Ami pressed her lips together as she surveyed the dark office in front of her, trying to decide what would be the best course of action to take from here.

What had she been thinking before this? Oh right, if that cat was here... well, it certainly wasn't here for no reason. Clutching her wand tightly, her eyes darted from the cat to the darkness of the office, trying to make up her mind on which course of action to pursue. On the one hand, she could attack the cat and potentially eliminate a danger from the other students... but not only did that go against her personal code of honor to never intentionally harm animals as a vegan, but she had a feeling that a catfight with an actual cat, and a giant one nonetheless, was a fight she would inevitably lose. On the other hand, just what the new caretaker was hiding in his office was certainly an intriguing little mystery that Ami certainly wouldn't be against investigating.

The other students could surely deal with one cat, right? Even if it was a giant one?

Ami glanced out into the corridor and winced as she saw a neon-haired girl call her out for her apparently naughty actions. Shooting @Kit Paine a menacing glare, indicating for the girl to shut her mouth, she would press herself up against the wall with bated breath. Hopefully, the cat was too busy with the other students to notice that she'd made it in here...

Readjusting her grip on her wand, Ami took a deep breath to calm her nerves. If she screwed up, the cat would know that she was in here, and that would not be good. "Lumos."
