Erin stared with open awe at the massive hall. Four long tables ran the length of the room, each seating a sizable crowd of students. She turned her head upwards towards the ceiling far above her head and spotted the candlesticks floating in the cavernous space that illuminated the grandeur of her surroundings. I wonder how they do that... she thought to herself, watching the candles bob in the air.

Everything about Hogwarts appealed to Erin. She loved everything from the grand, medieval style architecture and moving portraits to the ghosts that wandered the castle. Days of exploring and learning lay before her, and she hoped that she would never find an end to it. So engrossed was Erin in her ponderings that she almost missed the hall going silent. She listened as a man explained the different houses and delivered instructions up front. At the mention of the sorting hat, the wisp of a girl struggled to peer around the taller students she had come to find herself behind. Green eyes settling on the ancient looking hat, she listened with rapt attention as it began to sing. Could this experience get any better?

Where those of wit and learning, will always find their kind... Erin quite liked the sound of that. Her father had been sorted into Ravenclaw, and so the house held a certain appeal to it. Not to mention how perfectly the description seemed to fit her. Time seemed to fly by as she became lost in her thoughts, and before long she heard the declaration she had been waiting for.

"Erin Blackwood"

Erin felt that familiar tug in her gut that arose whenever she heard her name called. Sometimes the tug was succeeded by a sense of dread at being in trouble or a sense of confidence at the teacher's expectation of an answer. This time she felt a thrill of anticipation race up her spine and down to lend strength to her stiff legs. Erin stood from her seat and strode toward the front of the room with the confidence of a person intent on their destination. She sat down on the stool. The hat was placed atop her head.

A voice rose from the hat, as unexpected as it was expected, "Ms. Blackwood, the half-blood daughter of Darius, hm? I always knew he'd marry that muggle girl. Childhood sweethearts and most besotted with each other," the hat began amiably, "Now let's see here... I see you've set your eyes on Ravenclaw."

Erin nodded her head as she gazed out at the Ravenclaw table. It made the most sense to her, a curious child with a craving to learn.

"A very practical choice, I agree. You would fit in quite nicely there," the hat responded to her unvoiced thoughts. Erin was growing amazed at the hats abilities. What a powerful object it must be to be able to see into her very thoughts, "Hmm, but I see a potential for much more. Ah, yes... Yes, I see now."

"HUFFLEPUFF!," came the declaration.

Erin sat there for a moment, stunned. Hufflepuff was probably the last house she would consider for herself, but as the girl made her way to her new table, she mulled over what the sorting hat had said. I see a potential for much more... She would remember that, and she would eagerly await a revelation of what the hat had seen.

Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.

Alina followed into the hall with all the other first years. There were a lot it seemed. She could almost feel herself wither under all the watchful gazes of the other students at the tables. She nervously played with a piece of her light blonde hair. A pit growing in her stomach. 'Oh, calm down Alina! It's just a hat, and it's just going to determine what house you're in. It's not like your mother hasn't been screeching at you for the past 11 years to get into Slytherin after all.'

Alina hung back, as the kids began to gather around the front. The Headmaster did the opening greetings and told the story of the hat, who had begun to sing. Alina cocked her head to the side. What a strange song, long too. Couldn't she just get this over with already? She was hungry!

"Ambrosia, Alina." A voice rang out, as she started. She looked up wide-eyed, before swallowing down her nervousness. She stepped through the gaps the other students left for her. She was one of the first students to get called. Others looked at her in curiosity and nervousness. Alina straightened up. This was nothing to be afraid of! Just a couple hundred pairs of eyes staring her down.

She slipped onto the chair, adjusting her skirt before the hat was placed on her head. It was big, but seemed to squeeze onto her. The hat was sentient, right?

'True, I am.'

Alina's eyes gre big. 'You talk.' She stated. She could almost feel the hat roll his eyes.

'Well, clearly it won't be Ravenclaw for you, girl.' The hat bit back smartly.

'Sad thing that, my father would have been proud I represented his house. But my mama said I need to go into Slytherin.'

'Are you the sorting hat or am I?' She could hear the annoyance in his voice. He was grumpy old thing. 'Do you want to go to Slytherin?' He asked her, as she felt him sort around in her mind, going through memories and thoughts.

Alina shrugged. 'My brother was Slytherin. Maybe you remember him, Leo Ambrosia?'

'Ah yes, cunning kid. Almost Gryffindor that one. But no, I won't be putting you in Slytherin.' The hat commented, and Alina let out the breath she was holding. 'That pleases you.' He stated.

'Too much pressure I think. I just want to do my own thing.' Alina sighed, fiddling with the hem of her skirt.

'Interesting...' The hat was quiet for a while. "Better be...GRYFFINDOR." He shouted out, the table lined with red and gold stood up, cheering happily for her. She could feel uneasiness and nervousness slip away from her. Before the hat was removed from her head, she whispered a quick thank you and hopped off. Yes, this was perfect. She could create her own legacy. This was the start of her own life.

The Sorting Ceremony

It was just like his family told him about, a giant room with four tables full of students, flying candles and most of the professors and the director sitting in front of everyone. It was gorgeous, Isaac was simply amazed by everthing in it, he could even start crying from the feeling of finally being there.

All the first year students were following the teacher and going to the middle of the room, most of them had no idea about what was going to happen and were looking confused, but Isaac knew that he would soon be sorted into his house, the one that he would be in for seven years. When they placed the Sorting Hat on the empty chair in the room everyone started whispering about it wondering about what it was supposed to do, they all got surprised when he started talking to them and singing, then the teacher told everyone that she would call their names and after doing so the person should go sit on the chair and put the hat on to be sorted.

He wanted it to be a surprise so besides studying about what each house mostly values he didn't even try to analyze himself and predict the house that he would be sorted in, so when the teacher shouted his name he ran to sit on the chair and put that hat on his head, he was nervous and wanted to be sorted really soon, he couldn't wait any longer to find out about his house, he was rushing so much that he almost fell before getting to the chair, most students started laughing and that made him really embarrassed, so when he got to the chair he sat on it and tried to hide his face with the hat while it was analysing him, he forgot about almost falling and the other kids laughing when the hat started talking to him:

Oh, such a gentleman you are, very polite, maybe that means Hufflepuff? No, I don't think so.
It isn't everthing that describes you, I can see that you are also brave, but not enough to be in Gryffindor.
You are also ambitious, you want a lot of things for you but you wouldn't do anything that you had to do just to get those things, not a Slytherin, that I can see.
That's it! Now the answer is clear! it was here since the begining, how couldn't I see?!
Intelligence! Wisdom! Creativity! you are obviously another student from Ravenclaw!
Go, sit with your need friends, I am sure that you will learn a lot more than you already know with them!

After two long minutes of talking and thinking, something that looked like seconds for Isaac, the sorting hat finaly made his conclusion, a Ravenclaw, all the students of the Eagle House's table celebrated the joining of a new student, when Isaac went to sit with them they opened their arms to wellcome him.

He was not only happy for being sorted into a famous house or being praised by the hat for all of his qualities, he was also happy for being sorted into a different house from his family, it isn't like he disliked Slytherin, but his partend told him so much about that house that it would be a waste of time to get sorted into a house that you already know everthing about, he wanted something new and Ravenclaw was perfect for it.

Now he could learn a lot more, but he could do it later, at that moment he would just think about all the food that got summoned on the tables and try to eat everthing that he could before the end of the meal.

Yin entered the Great Hall along with the rest of the first-year students as the two giant doors that led inside pried open. Four tables ran parallel, stretching from the back of the room, all the way towards the very front where another table lay perpendicular to the previous four, with a large space in between. There sat the headmaster as well as all of the professors at Hogwarts. If she held out her hand, the professors would only be the size of her pinkie. Along each side of the four tables extended two narrow benches for occupants to be seated.

Underneath her calm visage, Yin was absolutely awestruck. Adorning both sides of the long bench tables was a series of golden plates and chalices each with their own pair of utensils. The tableware was oddly uniform as if they were lined up perfectly. Floating candles hovered just above, giving the Great Hall its dim lit, cabin-like atmosphere. Further up, the ceiling was nowhere to be seen, instead, it was as though the night sky had penetrated through and was now flaunting its midnight complexion.

The company of first-years slowly inched their way towards the front, still exploring the Great Hall. Yin was fascinated by even the littlest of details, from the shimmering reflection of the candles on the lacquered wood to the row of portraits that decked the walls. Although the first-years had stopped in place, their eyes continued to wander around from one thing to the next. To Yin, the Great Hall had been the most spectacular display of beauty she had ever seen.

As the Sorting Hat Ceremony began, Yin stood quietly at the center of the crowd waiting to get sorted. As the sensation of awe began to wear off, a strange feeling twisted inside her stomach. She was becoming just as anxious as everyone else but seemed to handle it much better than most. She was capable of standing still, her legs weren't wobbly, her hands didn't shake, and she didn't find herself fidgeting in one way or another. One by one, the deputy headmaster called out names from the list of first-years. She could feel her stomach flutter with every name that went by that wasn't hers. The thought that her house might disappoint her began to make her more anxious as time went by. At last, the words she had been waiting for echoed across the room.

"Yin Yue!" the deputy headmaster called.

The other first-year students parted to make way as Yin stepped up. Appearing at the front of the crowd, she could feel the watchful eyes of everyone in the room chasing after her. Yin pulled her robe beneath her legs as she slid onto the stool beside the deputy headmaster, adjusting it so that she was comfortable. The sorting hat was lowered onto her head. It was slightly larger than she had expected as it had slipped over one of her ears.

"Hmmm... Ahh yes. Lots of talent." The sorting hat uttered in a deep raspy voice. "Quite a refined taste, I see. And an immense love for the musical arts. Yes, I know exactly where to put you. That'll be Ravenclaw!"

Yin grinned as everybody in the room began to clap and cheer. She was delighted to hear that she would be placed in House Ravenclaw, but most of all, she was happy to hear that the hat had acknowledged her keen love of music. The sorting hat was then lifted off her head as she hopped off the stool. Her robe fluttering behind her as she rushed over to the Ravenclaw table.

He was ushered to line up, just like the rest. He had no awareness of what was happening. Of course he was aware that the Sorting ceremony was about to take place, but everything was so chaotic. People were bumping into each other and a few 'ow!'s were heard. The confused Corkonian boy quickly was washed inside with the rest of the children as the hat started to sing after a few moments of painful silence.

Emmett thought he had heard, seen it all. All his life his mother would have been babbling about Hogwarts, while his father had argued how much better Mahoutokoro was. Emmett had never taken sides verbally, but agreed with his mother. Perhaps his father was just a bad storyteller, but the moment that his mother opened her mouth, he was sold.

However the moment he saw the Great Hall his eyes widened dramatically. Looking to left and right to see if his peers reacted the same way, he was pleased to see that they were. Everyone's eyes were twinkling. He eventually let his eyes slide and absorb all the information he possibly could. As he heard someone starting to shout the names he subconsciously puffed out his chest, before exhaling loudly. Emmett was really stressed about this whole sorting situation. Usually Emmett was a relaxed little kid who was busying his mind with much more mundane things. But this was a thing that would affect his whole mindset, his next seven years and his friends. Everything, to make it short. He looked for comfort in others' eyes, but they seemed to be too tangled in their own thoughts. He couldn't blame them, it was a natural reaction.

Emmett indulged in his nervous habits again and ran his fingers through his hair lightly. As if to fix raven's nest of hair before letting the hat sit on his head. Just as he was starting to lose it with his crazy hair, his attention was attracted.

"Emmett Park."

He felt like he was going to either faint or die from excitement and worry. The young boy chewed on his lower lip, before inhaling loudly again. He walked proudly towards the chair looking at the hundreds of eyes focused on him. Of course they would, this was literally the most exciting part of a small wizard's life! He almost fell on the chair, and a few giggles were heard through the hall. Emmett felt his robe with his thumb and pointer, as the hat was put on his head.

"Ah, another Prescott. You folks tend to disappear for a few generations and then come back. Quite the fortune that both you and Petra, side to side generations, have the priviledge to attend to this school." The hat started talking almost immediately, referring how not everyone in his bloodline was a witch or wizard. The piece of clothing sounded so dry it almost scared the boy. Emmett clenched his fists and grit his teeth the moment that the hat mentioned his mother. This was his time to shine!

"You're time to shine? Well, you aren't wrong either. I've put almost all of the Prescotts into Ravenclaw, except for a few lucky Gryffindors and that one Slytherin from 300 years ago-" the hat kept on reminiscing, ignoring Emmett's spotlight and Emmett slowly turned sour. He wasn't a Prescott, first of all. His mother was a Prescott, Emmett was a Park. It wasn't like Emmett wanted his father to be mentioned too, heck, why would the Sorting Hat know a random Quidditch referee from South Korea? Of course it wouldn't mention him. But the young boy still felt annoyed that he was constantly referred as only a Prescott.

"Ah, yes. You're quite the studious and curious person, like a Ravenclaw." Emmett shook his head subtly to let the hat know that he was not satisfied with that sentence. Well, not that the hat couldn't read his mind.

"Aren't you hard to please!" The hat murmured and Emmett immediately stiffened up, taking that as an insult. He was about to fight this piece of garbage if it said one more offensive thing.

"I am the one who is supposed to be offended here, you should be taught some manners child!" The hat huffed before continuing.

"You're also striving to be the best, and hungry for power. Just like a Slytherin." Emmett didn't quite feel like he fit Slytherin either. He would be content if he was sorted into Slytherin, but to his surprise the hat kept going on. Why was it taking so long?

"You are eager to help like Hufflepuffs do, but there's only one house I think you would definitely fit in." Emmett felt a lump form in his throat, since he had held his breath through the whole ordeal. He was wondering, if he was a hatstall. No way, it had been maybe a little over a minute by now. A hatstall was someone who was stuck in this seat for over five minutes.

"GRYFFINDOR!" The hat exclaimed loudly, just when Emmett had let his mind wonder. He jolted up when people started yelling and cheering aggressively. It took him a moment to stand up and wobble towards the Gryffindor table. He had a funny, awkward but still somehow arrogant smirk on his face as he looked at his new family.

Aravis walked to the great hall trying to see what was ahead of her. The view was amazing. She awed at the candles and the size of the room. She bumped into a few people but mostly ignored them. She watched as other students went up. "Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor!" Each time someone went up it shouted the house they would be in.

Aravis closed her eyes hearing almost everything but Slytherin. She hoped she would get Slytherin. Every member of her family had been in Slytherin. If she didn't get that house she was worried how her Aunt and how her Uncle would react.

"Aravis Escanora!" She heard her name called and took a deep breath as she walked up. This would be her house, her new family. She hoped she would fit in to her house.

The sorting hat would put her in the right house. As the hat was placed on her she began to worry. "Another Escanora. Let us see where to put you." The hat delayed while going through her mind.

"Hm, always reading books yet claims to hate them." Aravis huffed at that. She knew very well she wasn't meant for Ravenclaw. "Very, very brave and bold yet almost no chivalry" She was certain she wouldn't get Gryffindor at all. "Always hard working and dedicated to your work I see. However there is no patience and your loyalty is unstable." Aravis gasped at that statement. Was is trying to make her seem horrible? Even if it was right she didn't want to accept the statement.

"Very resourceful...manipulative, cunning, and very ambitious as well" The hat seemed like it was trying to figure out if she was anything other than Slytherin just to annoy her. "I'm a Slytherin. You should know this! After all your the sorting hat!" She hissed at it wanting it to be over. "You do have a lot of nerve." No, No she wouldn't, she was sure she wouldn't. 'Gryffindor is not me.' "Yes, yes, Gryffindor is not you, Neither is Ravenclaw." Was it trying to decide between Hufflepuff and Slytherin? Those two houses were basically polar opposites!  "A seemingly dark mind like yours has one house fit exactly for them." If this hat even dared to put her in Hufflepuff she was sure she would be sent to Azkaban for what she would do to it.

"SLYTHERIN!" The hat boomed. A smirk crept on her face as she was put where she belonged. She waltzed over to her table happily. Looks like her family wouldn't disown her after all.

(ooc- i did this a bit late i hope it doesn't matter)

The sleeves of her robes had begun to annoy Melina, not that they where itchy just the fact that she would have to wear them was starting to sink in. Rolling her eyes slightly she crossed her arm as she waited for her turn. The rest of the children had been gawking and chatting on about the stars in the ceiling, she could say they where funny looking but she hadn't yet bothered to check.

"Why is it taking so long?"  "My Brother said it's called a hat stall, when the hat isn't sure what house to sort them into"

The two girls mumbled as they waited impatiently for their turn, everyone seemed to be nervous, it was mostly silent apart from the odd question and the cheering of the houses to welcome a new student.

"Melina Descoteaux!"

Melina held her breath as she made her way to the stool where she was greeted by a rather still man, he gestured for her to sit down and then placed the hat on her head. She sighed as her hair was squished into the hat and went to fix it "Oi!" She jumped a bit as the hat scolded her. What on earth?

"That's the right word alright, now lets see... Descoteaux? Afraid I've never met one of those before" The hat joked making Melina furrow her eyebrows in Jealousy. "Ahh, so Hogwarts was not you're choice? More of  Beauxbatons fan? Well i'm sure it won't take long to find the beauty in Hogwarts either Melina."

The glorious hat had fell silent giving Melina time to think,
will I be a Slytherin?
or Ravenclaw?

She gazed over to the Slytherin table, the rich green color made her eyes sparkle. "Hmm, i'm not so sure if that's the right place for you my lady.." the hat mumbled "Feisty but soft, interesting. There's anger in you isn't there." The hat paused as Melina tried not to think "you would do with a bit of unwinding, someone loyal to help find the better in you. Confidence clearly not needed, a bit of change in the mindset might do well.." She listened to the hat's words, he was starting to get on her nerves to be honest.

"Hmm enough of me already, lets see.... HUFFLEPUFF!"

Melina almost choked on her breath, you've got to be kidding! After sitting on the chair, mouth wide open in horror she was lightly pushed by the professor who clearly wasn't one for feelings. She almost looked terrified as she made her way to the Hufflepuff table, their cheers where distinctively quieter than the other houses, making her go red in embarrassment.

"Welcome to Hufflepuff!"
"I feel like i'm going to get sick"

"Thanks."

"there's bravery in being soft."

Lorelai played with the sleeves of her robes. She had worn muggle clothes all her life, so these were new to her. She looked around at the other new first years. Some seemed confident, other just as anxious as she. The ravenette felt like she was going to throw up at any moment. Her mother hadn't gone to Hogwarts and she had almost no information on her father who was absent her whole life, so there was hardly any pressure to get into any specific house. Yet, Lorelai had heard so many things about different houses that she didn't know what was fact and what was fiction anymore. Knocking her out of her thoughts she heard a loud voice call her name.

"Lorelai Brunelle!"

Lorelai's heart skipped a few beats as she made her way up to the stool.A hat was placed onto her messy black hair. "Ah, another Quinn. I remember your father very clearly..." Lorelai gasped under her breath. So her father did go here! "Yes, yes. You're just as free-spirited as him." The girl could hardly even think about the sorting ceremony anymore. This mystery that had been present her whole life was finally coming together after stagnating for so many years. "You're certainly an adventurous girl. Very smart too. Perhaps Ravenclaw? No, and certainly not a Slytherin...I think you belong. Just like your father..."

Lorelai held her breath. This was really happening. This would determine the next seven years of her life.

"...GRYFFINDOR!"

Lorelai smiled, she knew this house had a good reputation. More than anything though, she smiled because now she knew more about her father than ever.

"Quinn, Quinn, Quinn..."She repeated to herself, as though if she didn't. she would forget at any moment. She wouldn't though. She never would. Lorelai walked over to her new house's table. Everyone was clapping and seemed happy to meet her. Hopefully, she would have good experiences in her new house, and just as importantly find out about her father and his past.

"Procoppio, Ami!"

Ami slowly trudged up the steps to the stool and sat down. The Sorting Hat was placed upon her auburn mane, and to her surprise (even though her mother had walked her through this process), the Hat began to talk to her.

"Hmmph. You're Marie spawn," the Hat grumbled. "I remember your mother very clearly. Sat here and had the audacity to argue with me until she finally got her way and got sorted into Slytherin." Ami giggled, thinking, "Yeah, that's so like my mother. Argue until she gets her way."

"Oh, you're a half-blood. Interesting, the man your mother chose to marry. You're more like him than you think you are, Miss Procoppio, most interesting..." the Hat mused, and Ami could almost see a man stroking his chin. "You're unsure, aren't you? Growing up as a Muggle, no sign of magic? Well, you belong here, Miss Procoppio- we're never wrong, my team and I."

"What house am I gonna be sorted into?" Ami thought. "I don't want Gryffindor." The Hat seemed to laugh at her thoughts. "Not Gryffindor? But that's what everyone wants!" "I dunno, they just seem so outgoing, and so... so British. Please, just not Gryffindor," Ami pleaded.

"Not Gryffindor? I like you, Miss Procoppio. Unafraid to stand out. Yet you seek to be a part of a crowd, don't you? A crowd not to talk to, to befriend, but to hide... You'd do well in Slytherin." The Hat paused, and continued, "But you're nothing like a Slytherin. Hmm. Your ambition is there, but well hidden. You are certainly a tricky one. You are very intelligent, you'd do well in Ravenclaw, but what's this? You don't like the color blue on you? You wouldn't like it, you think? Well, Hufflepuff it is."

She almost didn't hear her name called.

Katha had never seen anything like the Great Hall before. Floating candles, pictures that moved, and she wasn't sure if there was no ceiling, or if magic made it look like that but goodness... She was positive in that moment that she'd never seen anything more beautiful than the endless expanse of universe cracked open above her future classmates heads. She watched, enthralled, as a shooting star lit up the potentially false sky, before blinking out of sight. She wished she had a camera with her, she was sure her father would have loved it.

Thankfully she managed to break out of her asterism induced haze before the blond man up front had to call out her name a second time. Her footsteps seemed to echo so loudly as she scurried up to the front. Even with all the chatter coming from the surrounding tables, her feet still seemed to make the loudest sound in the room. Without hesitation, she plopped herself down onto the stool, waiting for the professor to place the hat upon her head as he'd done with all the students before her.

As soon as the hat touched her head, all the noise around her seemed like it was sucked straight out of existence before a new voice replaced it.

"Well, I don't think I've seen any of your family here before. You're the first, then? And so eager to prove yourself... You're very loyal, so perhaps you'd do well in Hufflepuff... But you're not particularly hard-working, so perhaps not."

Katha huffed, disgruntled that she was receiving a subtle put-down from a hat of all things.

"My, you're most certainly impulsive. To your detriment, I gather? You're inquisitive and adventurous, certainly, and you have nerve in spades... You're lacking in confidence but I have no doubt that it will come to you in time. Yes, that's it... I have no doubts about it now, I know where you belong..."

GRYFFINDOR!

She smiled widely as the table draped in red and gold cheered for her. She quickly made her way over to join her new housemates and took a seat at the end of the table. Looking around at all of the glorious cacophony and chaos that was the Gryffindor table, she couldn't help but feel like she belonged. Perhaps this didn't feel like home yet but maybe, one day, it would.
