Shadow and Light
January 18th, 3pm
Today, class was over a little early for Ileen and she had wasted no time, wrapping the warm Slytherin scarf around her shoulders and escaping outside. In addition, she had put on the cream-colored bobble hat that Aida had given her at the beginning of the year, a really lovely gift and the only hat she traded for her red one.
After the vacations spent at Dee's, the amount of people in this castle seemed overwhelming to her, so she had taken the first opportunity to be alone for a bit. She had trudged to the lake through the ankle-deep snow and retreated under her favorite tree. There, she leaned with her arms crossed against the tree trunk and watched a small group of first graders frolicking in the snow.
With a grim expression, brows drawn together, and narrowed eyes, she watched the boys shoving each other and tilted her head with a frown as the voices grew louder. With an annoyed snort, she exhaled her breath, which froze into steam right before her eyes in the icy air.
The snow swallowed the boys' exact words, so ileen couldn't understand what they were saying, but it was clear that the romp turned into an argument and they started getting physical. Idiots. Ileen's mood lately was ruthless. She was unforgiving, neither condemning nor forgiving. Not after what she had seen. After what she had seen, they should all stick together to arm themselves against what was waiting for them.
A sharp cry of pain snapped her out of her thoughts. One of the boys who had pushed the hardest had collapsed on the ground clutching his leg. The other boys ran away.
Ileen scowled a little more and could not suppress grim satisfaction. Served him right. And the others who just ran away? Cowards. Everyone got what they deserved.

Shadow and Light
Eventually interacting with @Ileen Knight.
Thinking about the upcoming duel, Alexa found herself wandering around the edge of the Great Lake, kicking up little bits of snow with her trainers, which would soon be soaked through. She was used to that though, not having boots. It was still worth going outside in the snow!
As she was walking, she noticed some first-year boys messing around at the edge of the lake. She continued to walk toward the as the messing around escalated into an actual fight, with much shoving and yelling. Alexa picked up the pace. This could be ugly.
Suddenly one of the boys was on the ground, crying out in pain, and his companions ran away. She approached him, and was about to help him to the hospital wing when she saw something strange. Ileen Knight was sitting under a tree nearby, watching what had happened, and looking almost vindicated. Alexa frowned slightly. She remembered Ileen talking about wanting to be a healer, and yet here she was, ignoring this injured boy. Not to mention looking rather pleased.
"Ileen!" Alexa called out, beckoning. "Will you help me get him to the hospital wing?" She wondered why the girl was just sitting there…

Shadow and Light
Ileen was about to settle down with a book when a sharp meow interrupted her thoughts. “Oh, you followed me out here?” The young Slytherin looked down at her silver tabby cat with a slight frown. Liv, her small kitty, stalked prudently through the snow, tail raised high and obviously not thrilled by the cold on her paws.
“Well, you chose to walk around here, stop complaining.” With a sight she picked the baby cat up and bedded her into her arms. The cat gave her a yawn and snuggled up into her jacket, obviously way more satisfied now.
A smile twitched the corners of the grim Slytherin girl as she looked at her pat. Liv was difficult, sure. She liked no one but Ileen and gave everyone else a hard time. But Ileen loved her - it made her kind of special.
As the crying of the boy continued, Ileen looked back up and the grim expression returned to her face. Idiots. Everyone got what they deserved.
She briefly considered helping him, but dismissed the idea. One had to live with the consequences of one's own actions, otherwise how would one ever learn anything?
Even though Ileen wanted to become a healer and stay away from the dark she hadn’t grown into the mindset to do actively good to people who didn’t deserve it in her opinion. Her reasons to choose that profession were rather egoistic. It was not about helping people to actually do good, but to do something that was not evil. She did it for her own sake, not for others.
Of course, it was something completely different when her own friends were involved. For her friends Ileen would gladly sacrifice her own life, but with strangers who messed up? Not likely. She still had a long way to go. When she had chosen that approach in the fight club, it had been a first step, but there was still a second to be taken.
In the meanwhile another person had entered the scene. Ileen knew the redheaded girl. It was Alexa, the Hufflepuff she had faced in her first duel and afterwards visited in the Hospital Wing. She approached the boy and then looked at Ileen to call her.
Ileen arched one eyebrow raising her defence immediately. With a silent sight her arms still wrapped around Liv, she slowly made her way through the snow to the two.
She gave the girl a brief smile. “Hey Alexa. How are you doing?”
When she arrived next to her she looked back at the boy and her eyes became a lot cooler. “This guy? Well, he messed around, now he has to deal with the consequences right?” She shrugged and stroke Liv’s head.
Liv wanted to say something too and hissed at the boy. Then she tried to hide her head in Ileen’s jacket.
The Slytherin girl would sight again and give Alexa another smile, realizing that her words might sound rather harsh. “I mean, did you see what they did before? He messed with the other, willing to hurt them.” She tried to justify her decision and tilted her head.
Ileen was a rather honest person and she would always speak her mind. In this case she had put her toughts in mild words. Yes, she was judgy.
