As she stepped inside the Duelling Club, Lydia could feel the energy that seemed to be everywhere in the room; whether it was someone from the public, one of the duellists or herself, the adrenaline was tangible in the air. Differently from the first time that she had moderated a duel, her steps were more confident now that she had some experience in the field; once she had gotten up on the strip, she faced the crowd and tried to get everyone's attention.

"Hello everybody!" she said, her voice loud and clear. "I'm Lydia Cooper, and today we will see the Duellists @Lamik Fillestar and @Raine Sage, from Gryffindor, face @Ileen Knight and @Alexander Varellion , from Slytherin," As she talked she motioned towards herself, inviting the Duellists to get up on the platform. Once they had done so, she looked at them before she continued talking.

"Since a little bit of time has passed since the last round of duels, here's a reminder of the rules: no physical attacks, this is a spells only space! If you do physically attack a fellow duellist, you will get disqualified," Then, motioning towards the opposite ends of the platform, she continued with her speech, "If there are no questions, please take your positions!"

Once the Duellists had gotten to their respective places, she would look at them once more, before stepping down from the platform. "Alright, if everyone is ready... The duels starts now!"

Ileen took a deep breath and tried to catch Alexander’s gaze. Her heart beat painfully in her chest and she swallowed once. Not that she feared the pain that could be done to her, no. Rather the other way around. But she had gone for it and she would not disappoint her teammate.
She searched his gaze to assure him of her fighting spirit and determination and to get the same commitment from him.

This time they would face third years, so they might be advanced in spellcasting, but the young Slytherin had mastered some third year spells herself. And who knew? Last time they had won. With a little bit of luck, they could do it again. Ileen would try.
She looked forward to face the two Gryffindors and tried to clear her head. Don't overthink. Her instincts had served her well last time. With a concentrated expression, she stepped onto the stage and drew her wand. "Ready when you are." She gave the young boy a quick smile and then she was ready.

Alexander walked forward to the duelling platform, his tread steady, though his heart was beating rapidly. Adrenaline was coursing through his veins. This was to probably be the hardest game of the entire season for the Slytherin duo. Him and Ileen going up against two students who were each one year their season. Who knew more spells, had better skills, etc. So it promised to be quite a challenge.

A smile graced Alex's feature, which had a vicious quality in it, but was mostly filled with excitement. Because the harder the battle, the greater the feeling of triumph that would be gained from it. Glancing to the side, he noticed Ileen trying to catch his eye. She had a determined look in her eye, it seems she was quite eager to start this as well. The excitement of the last match must have been to her liking.

After Ileen said 'ready when you are' Alex's vicious smile would grow larger. "Well, let's not keep the audience waiting then."

• If a player successfully casts a spell at a part-Human opponent, they get +1 Accuracy if they attack and +1 Evasion if they're being attacked. This doesn't give any IC knowledge of the opponent's race or talent unless found out in advance or revealed during the duel.

Evasive Maneuvers:
• When a spell was successfully cast at a player with Evasive Manoeuvres, a 1d10 roll is performed prior to Accuracy vs Evasion roll to determine whether the spell will be auto-dodged (roll 10). The Accuracy vs Evasion roll will not be needed in case of success.
• The auto-dodge chance can stack only to 20% from any number of sources and in this case 9 or 10 would be considered a success.

Ah...here they go again. The only Gryffindor duo that managed to win in Stage 1 were up to bat again. Raine stood before her opponents, two Slytherin second years, and thought about what strategy she and Lamik would use. They had discussed a starter strategy before and the thirteen-year-old girl was running the play by play through her head to ensure that she remembered what she would have to do. She didn't want to be a failure this time. She barely helped in the last duel and it was only by sheer dumb luck that she and Lamik pulled out that win last term.

She was determined to not be a burden this time around.

Looking at the two snakelings, she readied her wand and bowed to the two duelist. It was only proper that they conduct the correct stature for all of this. Sure it was a game...but it was a game with a reward at the end and Raine was determined to help herself and her teammate win it with skill and not solely with luck.

Lamik Fillestar stepped onto the stage, nervously eyeing his two opponents. The only other duel that he had ever participated in wasn't the decisive victory that he had hoped (though it was a victory nonetheless), and he wasn't determined to have a repeat. Nonetheless, he had agreed on quite a good strategy with Raine after last time. All they had to do was not miss. Easier said than done, so Lamik barely paid attention to what the referee said, instead busying himself with an encouraging silent imaginary pep-talk directed at his wand-hand, as though that would help. Regardless, he knew the rules, and wouldn't have dreamed of physically attacking someone even if he hadn't.

Alexander vs Raine
Reducio
Alexander cast Curse of the Bogies at Raine
Wisdom DC: 12
Wisdom Check: [d20:3] + 8 = 11 → Failure, the spell was not cast
The duel started pretty strongly, with spells flying across the stage and some of them even backfiring.

@Lamik Fillestar gave to the Gryffindor team an advantage, the Flipendo hitting Ileen at the very last moment on her shoulder; the girl was quick, but unfortunately the spell still dealt 100HP of damage. @Raine Sage also chose to aim for the Slytherin girl, the Incendio Duo reaching her just as it looked as if she had managed to avoid it; her robes caught fire, staring from the bottom right, and the flames gave her 100 HP of damage as well.

Probably because of all of this, @Ileen Knight's Expelliarmus, instead of going towards Lamik, backfired and sent the girl's wand flying up in the air and then onto the ground. It would take her 2 rounds to get a hold of it again.

If things weren't bad enough already, @Alexander Varellion's spell didn't succeed, his wand trembling lightly only to become still once again.

Of course nothing was decided yet, the duel had just started and anything could happen. Could Gryffindor keep the advantage they had gained with this round, or would Slytherin triumph and win yet another duel for their house?

It was a lucky first round. Sure, both Lamik and Raine had failed to cast their spells with much kick, but his opponents faired much MUCH worse. Not only did the boy he was going against- Alexander, if he remembered correctly- completely fail to cast his spell, but his partner, who Lamik seemed to remember actually meeting briefly during his previous Hogwarts years, had her spell completely backfire, causing her wand to fly far enough away to take her out of the game for a bit of time. Really, Lamik was extremely pleased with the outcome- things were looking good. Nevertheless, he couldn't let himself get too cocky. There was always more time for disaster. Giving Raine a glance, as if trying to ask silently wether he remembered both of their plans correctly, Lamik prepared to cast his next spell.

A sigh released from Raine's mouth as she watched her spell fly across the platform and connect with her opponent. That was quickly followed by a wince as the second year girl started to burn from her robes as the fire settled there. She could only imagine what the initial burning of the spell felt like and then to add on the additional flames...

"Ouch" she thought, but her thoughts of sympathy were broken as she quickly, though unnecessarily, dodged a spell that wasn't even cast. The boy's wand was pointed at her but nothing came from it, thankfully. She wouldn't know what to do if he managed to get that spell off on her.

If it did manage to land, she could only hope that both she and Lamik could end this duel fast enough. She caught the glance from her teammate and gave a subtle nod of her head to let him know that they would continue with what they discussed. They should count their blessings that the young Slytherin girl had lost her own wand in the first round. It would give them time to figure out more on this strategy.

Ileen raised her wand, ready to speak the incantation of the spell that had probably saved her during her first duel. But this time she was facing two third years and apparently they were a little bit more experienced and therefore faster. She saw the first spell coming and although she stepped aside, she wasn't fast enough. The Flipendo hit her in the shoulder like a hammer blow and a familiar pain jerked through her body. She gritted her teeth. She would not let this upset her. Not this time.
Apparently she had taken too much time to recover from this attack, because only a blink later she was hit by a second spell, completely unprepared. Fire. Fire again. She felt the flames that had set her robe ablaze engulf her skin, but this time they were hotter and they didn't just disappear, but ate through the fabric. Burns were painful and Ileen could only suppress a sound with difficulty.
Quickly she concentrated on her own target, trying not to let all of this upset her. "Expelliarmus!" But that had not worked out. They had caught Ileen on the wrong foot and made her lose her concentration. And thus something happened that had never happened before. She was so confused that she made the completely wrong move and then she felt the wand she had been holding being snatched out of her hand.
Oh no. What a start. the girl immediately started hating herself for this complete failure that she almost forgot about the pain. Well, it’s not the time to cry, Knight. Get it together.

To Alexander, in the few moments it took for everything to happen. One thing became quiet clear.

The two of them had somehow angered the all mighty Murphy. Or at least tempted Murphy's law.
"Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong". A more fitting description could not be found for the situation they were in right now.

Alexander only allowed himself a small curse of. "Merlin's bloody beard." Specifically after his damn wand refused to obey him. That unruly cherry and phoenix feather wand. It seemed he had not exercised his will sufficiently against the willful wand. Perhaps he had been distracted by the sight of Ileen's wand flying away.

But there was nothing that could be done about the past, now they had to deal with the present. Alexander calmly breathed in and out, then began to jump into action once more.

They had to win, they had to push through. They had fallen due to a stroke of bad luck, now to see if sheer effort and will could bring the breakthrough for the vipers.

That or they would undergo a torturous punishment by the captain of the Vipers. That glare of anger and disappointment, just the sheer atmosphere of terror. Alexander was certainly not aiming to be on the receiving end of it.
