There seemed to be more of a backstory with the nurse. Not only was he a Muggle-born, but he was also adopted. It must have been a difficult life to not know one's birth parents and still live through life to its fullest. Although Maya did not get along with her parents, she would not have it any other way. She strived on knowing the ways of the "stay-at-home-Mom" culture of her mother and the machoism of her father no matter how much she disagreed with their way of living.

But it seemed that the nurse before Maya had no choice of what life he was to life. It was thankful, however, that he ended up as a Healer. Most who come from broken homes stay broken, unless their soul and passion yearns to mend the broken pieces together, providing success.

Watching him was like watching a kid focusing on video games or an arcade game. He was spinning back and forth on his chair like no care in the world while thinking. He was childish, but yet, old. Maya assumed that he was one of those "young at heart" kind of people.

"Exactly, with all the resources Hogwarts has to offer, who knows what new concoction you could brew for the Wizarding World," she said, defending the fact that having no students could lead to discovery. It was only last year that the Wizarding World's utmost loyal and strong Healers created a stronger Pepperup Potion to cure COVID-19 from the magical realm.

"Experiments, hmm?" she asked, crossing her arms. She wondered what kind of potions he had been brewing. Maya, a graduate of Uagadou, was practically pushed into the realm of charms and potions. She even competed in a schoolwide competition during her last year. "What have you tried?"

The thought of putting different ingredients together in a cauldron was exciting. Could he be close to discovering something? Maya watched him play in his chair... Perhaps not, but it was still worth an ask. And even so, she did not know who he was to judge. He could be an up-and-coming Healer and still have quirks. It was then that Maya realized that she did not even know his name.

"Sorry, I just realized. I never caught your name...," she said sheepishly. How embarrassing to have a full-on conversation with someone and not even know their name. It was tasteless.

Kelsey grew an even bigger smile as she encouraged his curiosity, his eyes wrinkling with delight. There was never going to be a point at which potions couldn't be created or improved, it was still something of a wonder to him, no matter how old he got. His mother collected ingredients from the fens and experimented on them as well, and he had mimicked her as a child. He picked everything, sometimes even tasted them, though that had led to a lesson learned the hard way.

"What've I tried? Everything!" It was likely not the answer she was looking for, but it was true. His curiosity knew no bounds, and even though his approach sometimes led to strokes of genius, other times they were wild goose chases. Better to leave no stone unturned. "'sfar as medicine goes, lately I been lookin' on how to change up the ratios on the ingredients fer different species. Half giants have thicker skin, y'see, transdermal absorption is very diff'rent. Even with magic there idin't one answer fer everything."

His squeaking spinning stopped when Maya asked him his name, his face lighting up with confusion rather than the placid joy it had before. He blinked a few times, realizing that she must have not been paying much attention when he was hired. Were the nurses really so expendable that she didn't even bother learning his name?

"Kelsey Brumby's my name, Kels to my mates." His confusion visibly softened. He didn't hold grudges, or take things personally. If he wanted to be someone that the professors knew the name of, he would just prove it on his own time, and they could catch up. "Now that ya mention not knowin' things, I knew yer name but I dunno whatcha do here. Youse a teacher, right?"

A playful sneer exited Maya's lips. To think that this young man has tried everything during his potion making. She, who had been very into potion making during her school years and was mentored by older Potioneers has not tried just about everything. Perhaps it was a figure of speech and not in actuality.

It was obvious that the nurse had a passion for the medical field. Understanding not only the wizarding folk but also different races and creatures was in his mindset when thinking of creating concoctions. "What other creatures have you been changing ratios for? Maybe I can be of assistance," she said, offering. Granted, he did not know her background but she was excellent at potions. She and Nora were partners during a competition. One, however, that they did not win because of their opponents cheating. "What do you have on Dhamphirs?" she curiously asked.

"Oh right... Brumby...," she said, calmly. "Your name made me think of a bumblebee throwing crumbs," she jokingly said. Unfortunately, it was true that she did think of something as crazy as that to try and remember his name. It was clear that it did not work.

"A professor," she corrected him. A teacher was just someone who earned their teaching credentials and has the minimum expertise on a subject. She was a Professor, someone who devoted their life to a single study. Hers, although she was a muggle, was on muggle culture. She often taught the class through an ethnographic lens and incorporated comparisons between the Wizarding World and that of the Muggle.

"I teach Muggle Studies-- the correct way. Not any of this Pure-blood trying to teach magical folk what they think the Muggle Society is," she added.

"Anyone I can get my hands on!" Kels smiled, but then it scrunched. He had got into trouble before for 'experimenting' on people too much, he realized he would probably not leave a very good impression if he implied any half-breed student coming through his doors could expect the same. "Well, not that I'd do anythin' I didn' feel sure of. Learned my lesson 'bout that."

Maya asked about Dhampirs specifically, asking if she could help. Kels squinted his eyes, looking for any telltale signs that she was one herself. It seemed unlikely, she wasn't particularly pale for one, but he stroked his chin in wonder, his scratchy, two-day-old beard growing in and being a nuisance.

"Theys interestin', I been wonderin'... what exactly makes 'em adverse ta sunlight. Issit like photosensitivity, where tha body triggers a auto-immine reaction to tha sun-altered skin cells? Y'know, muggles never figgered out what causes that in humans neither." Alight with his interest in the subject, Kels animatedly swung his hands around to emphasize his point, ending in a shrug. It was still a mystery.

With her admission about his name, he burst out in laughter again, slapping his knee. The boredom he had been struggling with early had entirely vanished.

"I ain't wanna be associated with no litter bug! Pfaahahaha!" He had to wipe away some tears as his laughter subsided, the idea of a tiny bee maliciously throwing crumbs around was too funny. "I was just thinkin' earlier 'bout how you reminded me of 'Maya the Bee', that were an old cartoon."

He nodded along as she explained her position-- Professor of Muggle Studies. It suddenly made a lot more sense how their conversation had started. He remembered when he had gone to school that was always his least favorite subject by far. It was a wonder why they even made Muggle=borns take the class at all, though it had been somewhat enlightening. Just like she alluded to, even after years of having Muggle-like students grow in their halls, their understanding of Muggles was a flawed, inaccurate picture more often than not.

"Wow, yeah, I hope yer classes is better 'an the ones I took. Buncha bull honkey." Still, a cheeky smile crept onto his lips remembered some of the funnier misunderstandings. "Must be super fun dealing with all the Pureblood kids."

"I don' think I could do yer job at all. With healin', the desired outcome is obvious, a healthy body, right? How d'ya know you've professored somethin' right?"

Just hearing him speak about Damphirs scientifically was enough to respect the nurse. She had never heard anyone talk about them as science but rather as just creatures who have lives of the night. It was nice to witness something different and to see the sparkle in his eye of wanting to figure out how to help them was intriguing as well.

Watching him laugh stunned her. Maya was never able to make someone laugh like that. Here she was, seeing the man laugh so hard that he had to slap his knee. She couldn't help but the laugh herself from his response. It was true that no one wanted to relate themselves to insects. Though it seemed that he was not too far in how he was reminded of her name.

Maya heard of that cartoon, "Maya the Bee." It was an old show that always aired. It was definitely final that she figured out his blood status. He was most definitely a muggle-born like her. Although there could be some ideas of him being a half-blood, there was all too many signs of him being fully raised as a muggle than that of having magical background.

"They are definitely a challenge, but it is well-worth the effort to get them to understand wholeheartedly of the muggle world," she answered in regards to the Pure-Blood children. They were the most difficult of them all. Always speaking out of turn in the classroom and showing no interest. There was always one or two, however, per year that would be open-minded and want to learn more. It was worth it finding that one or two students, however.

"You ask a very good question, Brumby. I knew I was ready and of a professor ranking of teaching because I had the experience. Now teaching kids wasn't what I thought I'd end up doing, but oh well. You have to start somewhere," she said, thinking about what she thought she would have been doing. She wanted to teach at a University-- somewhere bigger. But alas, it was Hogwarts that was bigger in the wizarding world.

Maya felt she had overstayed her welcome with the nurse. He maybe had other business to take care of and she was keeping him. Having a newly stocked kit filled with Band Aids and more was what she meant to do. It was nice to get to know the new nurse alongside her mission.

"I still have grading to do back in my office. It was very nice to meet you, Brumby. Thank you for your help. See you soon," she said with a smile, and with that, she walked out of the Hospital Wing. She looked back at the nurse with a smile and turned back around to exit.

During his uproarious laughter, he heard the much quieter peals of her own laughter, which, frankly, made his day. She seemed so studious and serious, it was nice that she brightened up. Some smart people tend to get so focused on their goal that they forget to sit down and have a conversation, throw a few jokes around. At the very least, that's what he had been in dire need of before she arrived.

Even more so, she talked about the more troubling students like a real martyr. That was exactly why she was suited and he wasn't-- he could admire it from afar though. It was good that there were a bunch of responsible people out there so he focus on something more interesting. Muggle politics was not his favorite topic in the world. He had opinions for sure, but he didn't generally go around telling them to people unless it came up. She didn't look that much older than him, but the difference in their perspective was obvious.

To his question, she gave a very efficient answer: experience. Fair enough, that was a good reason to believe in oneself. Still, it said a lot about her. It took someone with a lot of self-efficacy to feel like they were in control of their lives, and they deserved their position in life. Self-assured people were always easy to get along with, the fact of the matter was everyone deserved happiness. Sometimes it was a struggle to convince people of that.

Nodding along with her answers in rapt attention, he let out a loud, drawn-out 'awww' when she said she had to go back to grading. Getting over it quickly, he shrugged and leaned back into his chair. It was true that he still had stuff he could be doing, and that the point of his job wasn't to have chit chat during on duty hours. At his last job, he would have got a nasty slap on the wrist for that. Now that he was in charge of the hospital wing, there was definitely going to be a lot of idle chit chat.

"Thanks for droppin' by! See you around! Don't be a stranger!"

He waved as she left, and when she turned back for a moment, he raised both arms, energetically waving them around like an air traffic controller with another, "Byyyeeeeee!"
