Trying to Dance LOCKED

It was a cold Saturday morning and Taylor was incredibly bored. She had been wandering through the halls when she stumbles into the ballroom. She stood in the doorway for a few seconds, shocked by the grandness of this room. There were tables pushed against the wall because there was no Ball happening soon. The short girl had never been very good at dancing but loved pretending she was. She peeked back outside to make sure no one was coming through the door and put on some waltzing music.

Taylor imagined herself in a flowing ballgown and curtsied to an imagined partner. The Ravenclaw twirled around the room, a huge smile on her face. She had always imagined actually dancing with someone in a ballroom. Now she was half way there. She just needed someone to dance with. The song ended and she sat on the floor, somewhat defeated. She leaned her head on the music player and another song started. One she was actually quite familiar with. Her grandfather used to play it every Christmas on the piano and Taylor and her mother would sing along to it. Taylor closed her eyes, humming softly to the opening of the beautiful song. She got so lost in this song that she started singing, quite loudly mind you. She had always been a great singer, just as her mom was, but could never sing at home because it made her father sad. Here at Hogwarts however, she could sing whatever, and whenever, she wanted.

Simon had been on his way to the Rehearsal Room to practice on the piano when he heard music coming from the Ballroom. Usually the room was unoccupied so the fact that someone, or someones, were in there sparked his curiosity. Was it that ballet group that met every so often?

He passed the doors to the Rehearsal Room and slowly stepped to the Ballroom. The door was already open just slightly and so there wasn't any noise as he slowly made his way inside. With her head down he didn't instantly recognize Taylor, although he did notice the dark hair.

"Nice song choice," he said out loud but with no intention of alarming the girl. Simon was always a fan of the older music before any of the current stuff (although he liked some of that too). And he already had felt this sort of connection with Taylor's grandfather. This would just strengthen that more.

When the girl would look up to him he would recognize her face instantly and he smiled brightly. "Well, fancy meeting you here, Ms. Haywood. What brings you by the Ballroom?"

Probably for the very same reason that caused him to venture to this part of the castle - assignments were done, no more studying, and just needing something to do to spend one's free time. Even most of the students weren't going outside as it was rather chilly. Simon very rarely went outside, even on a nice day.

Quickly, Taylor looked up at the sound of a boys voice. She was met with her close friend, Simon's, face. A smile spread onto hers as she stopped the music and stood up to be closer to his height. She was still much shorter than him and she felt herself wanting to stand on her toes. "Hey Simon! I was just looking around for something to do and I found this place. It's pretty cool. And that song was just something my grandpa used to play all the time." Taylor was mildly embarrassed that he had heard her singing but pushed it aside. "I was dancing in here earlier too. They have really nice music to waltz to. Not that I can do so very well." Taylor played another song, this one more upbeat, and danced around the room, laughing. She motioned for Simon to dance with her as well.

She felt so free dancing with her friend. Happy. The song ended and she plopped onto the ground next to him. "Well that was quite fun. You're a terrible dancer, compared to me at least." she joked. "Do you know how to ballroom dance?" Maybe he could teach her. Or they could just learn together.

shall we dance, @Taylor Haywood

The fast dancing was right up his alley. He didn’t mind if he looked silly so he just went with the music but luckily dances were one of his prior school’s favorite past times and he knew a lot of various moves that were quite in style. Still, Taylor obviously liked to dance and it wasn’t easy keeping up with someone with her skill set.

“I can waltz. I could show you if you’d like. I actually know quite a few formal dances,” he said of her question on whether or not he could ballroom dance. “I learned though that the wizarding world, mainly the purebloods, have their own dances and I can’t claim to know any of those. Maybe some day I’ll look into that. Current research is on magical portraits, the foundations of spells, carnivorous plants, and giants.”

Simon was almost always off in the library, busy researching one subject to another. Most times the research on a particular topic would bring about more questions or more areas of magic to look into. He was fascinated by it all.

“Would you like to try?” He asked her, holding his hand out for her to take. “Or should I rather say...may I have this dance Ms. Haywood?”and he gave his best sort of bow in her direction.

Taylor took his hand, trying to stifle a laugh as he almost fell while bowing. They started dancing and Taylor thought she was pretty good at it. Until she stepped on his feet. A lot. 24 time actually. She counted and she thought this must be the most embarrassing moment in her entire life. Once she had stepped on his foot for the 25 time, she decided this must stop. She stepped away from him and the music stopped. "I'm terribly sorry for...stepping on your feet so much. Are they alright? You're not too hurt are you?" she felt really bad.

To make him feel better, she ran over to her book bag and pulled out a lemon drop and handed it to him. She made sure to carry them around ever since she learned it was one of the only candies he liked. She could never imagine not liking sweets. They were one of the only things she ever ate and while she was a skinny girl, she ate cookies and cake all the time.

Once she had calmed down a bit from her embarrassment, she decided that they should perhaps try again but with slower music. She walked over to the music player and put on a different song and curtsied to Simon. She was already doing better.
