11th January@Flash Holmwood @Kazuo Shimada @Dan Palmer
A new errand. In the snow! Well... a snowstorm rather. The task seemed more than doable for the majority of Hogwarts- start a fire. Mentally many of them seemed capable of burning down anything, even the goddamn Quidditch pitch. Opeila ciuld remember last year's blossom ball in bright colours. Casting incendio on the huge bugs that attacked the students, seemed to harm them but also turned them into flying firemonsters, but casting it on the Quidditch stand had just been the worst idea ever. The Slytherin could also vaguely recall smelling smoke when the spiders attacked them in the common room.
So basically many Hogwartsians seemed to welcome any excuse to burn something down- but not Opeila. She couldn't remember if she ever used the spell. Not even in the duel, she would have never set poor Willow on fire. Well, it was about time then! It was that thought that mainly brought her to join this errand, which was organized by the only seer role model she had left now.
Opeila arrived in the courtyard, when some had already started. For a moment, the second year just observed- was the professor directing the winds at the students to make it harder? That was mean. But also hilarious to watch. Wrapping her coat tighter around her body, Opeila entered the snowstorm, looking for a place that was protected from the winds. There- two piles of snow, that would shield her attempt against the winds. Hopefully. Opeila started to pile up some more snow, creating walls around a small spot, where she planned to pile up wood and start her fire.

Having just completed a snowy errand earlier that week, he was feeling particularly 'in the spirit'. He had just finished a short stint of self-discovery, and was finding some respite in spending time with others again. Last time Professor Kibitzer put on an errand, Flash used it to strategically get closer to two people he had a confusing relationship with-- but that had turned out terribly. He cringed remembering it, shivers no longer from the inordinate cold that Madame Kibitzer had summoned. This time his full intention was to arrive and help whoever seemed to need help the most, but his intentions changed when he saw Opeila building up a shelter by herself. It was almost funny, seeing as his reason for doing all the errands his first year had been in hopes of helping Opeila cinch as many house points as possible. Back then, she seemed intent on bringing the Slytherins together after the trauma they faced with the spiders. Now, she was alone for some reason.
Shielding himself from the snowy onslaught with an arm poised over his brow, Flash trudged through the perilous make-shift storm to Opeila's side.
"Your support has arrived, m'lady!" Flash half-shouted to be heard over the howling wind, but a small smile would show he was being playful.
Assuming she would be glad to see him, he would start helping to finish the shelter. The winds were crashing in from several directions as Kibitzer madly swung her wand around to increase the challenge for all those in attendance. With the two of them working together, it wouldn't take too long to make a wall on all sides.

Always one to keep up with the events, Kazuo had, of course, heard about the new errand from Professor Kibitzer. While it sounded like an absolutely awful challenge, it also sounded like one with great potential for observing how his fellow students reacted to harsh conditions and teamwork. So he had, out of curiosity, bundled himself up in multiple layers, pulled up the fur-lined hood of his parka and headed out to the courtyard. Hovering near the doorway at first, he scanned the field of white dotted by clusters of students undertaking their mission. A few groups had already started their task and he couldn’t help but to think that Professor Kibitzer must be a sadist to put the students through such a task. He glanced at her, perfectly safe and warm inside her little bubble of sunlight, tormenting the students with harsh winds and swirling snowstorms.
Though he was far ahead in his studies than most of the first years, he hadn’t yet mastered Incendio so he was at a bit of a disadvantage. Though a lighter might be an adequate replacement, it would take much more work to keep a small fire lit long enough to pass the test. Not impossible but certainly more work than if he could find a group to work with, perhaps one with a student who already knew the fire spell. He scanned the groups of students, gauging which groups were already full and eliminating them. His eyes landed on a lone pair of two; Opeila and Flash. Two people he knew, albeit briefly, through his singular foray into the world of sports. Perhaps they would be willing to let him join, particularly if he made himself useful. As he fought his way across the field - no small task for the skinny boy - he paused at one of the precarious-looking saplings, promptly stripping it of as many branches as he could manage to liberate from the poor abused plant. With a small armful of twigs as an offering, he plodded the rest of the way to where Opeila and Flash appeared to be building a mini snow fort.
“Ohayo!” He hollered above the howling winds. “I come bearing twigs!”

At last, Dan arrived.
He hadn't a clue as to why in the world the weird American Professor Kibbles lady had THIS as an errand idea. Did people in America do things like this? It seemed very weird. Which perfectly complimented the professor in question, and made perfect sense.
Dan had, up until about an hour ago, completely forgotten about this. When he finally remembered, he threw on a t-shirt, a sweater, and a coat, and some long pants over his pajama pants. His feet were, as they usually were, bare. The cold never bothered his feet anyway, no point in wearing anything on them. Not that he would have anyway. He was a barefooted boy, and that was how he was going to stay.
He made sure Loki was fed, and immediately after eating, he took a kitty nap. Which was fine by Dan, as he didn't want to deny the kitty playtime to go and do this exercise in nonsense and sadism.
Dan took some scrap parchment to act as kindling, in case Incendio went awry, as it seemed to do that pretty often.
Dan clambered down the stairs, left the common room, then padded up some more stairs, and it was at this point that Dan was once again happy he was not in Gryffindor. Because then he would have to go down stairs, and then go down more stairs, and then even more stairs, just to get halfway to the ground floor.
Though that WOULD give him some seriously toned legs...
Dan decided that it was simply not worth it. A few factors were involved in that decision, but the one that really hit it home was that in addition to having to go down a seemingly infinite amount of stairs to get where he needed to go, he would then have to go back UP the infinite stairs to get to his Common Room. No thank you. Going all that way up just to trigger Acrophobia was not very high on Dan's 'Ima do this' list.
Finally, he had gotten outside, and made his way to his team's meeting spot.
He could sort of make out Professor Kibbles 'n Bits flailing her wand around making high winds to torment children with. She herself, of course, was completely shielded from it. So she can make stormy wind all day, but she couldn't take it.
Typical American.
Once he got closer, Dan could see that Opeila was making a snow fort around where they were going to make a fire.
An excellent idea. Certainly beat Dan;s idea of him using his cold resistant body as a shield. He and his mates would stand by the pier on mega windy days sometimes in Dingle to see who could last the longest. And while Dan may have only won those on occasion; Patrick was the reigning champion in their friend group, currently. That didn't mean Dan was unused to high wind.
Though, once again, Dan had to wonder what the point of this was. The other errands he had gone on had some kind of practical reason behind them, and a point in doing them. The most recent one he did with Andy was decorating Hogsmeade and making it pretty. Another was making hard cookie ornaments for a tree. And over the summer, he participated in making Gargott pastries because he was a lazy blob who wanted the students to bake for him.
Except that the last one was one that Dan was not able to do himself, since he could not bake for shit. So he had to have his house elf Hoodie make the cookies for him instead.
Still though. Those had a point. This... seemed to not have a point at all.
He approached his group and smiled.
"Oi, how is everyone? Windy enough for ye? What say we get started on this anime resolve test bullshite?"
Dan whipped his wand out, seeing that the wall had finished construction. This fact however, made him a bit sad, since he would have loved to help a snow fort wall. So instead, he waved his wand and pointed at the pile of sticks safely behind their impenetrable wall.
"Incendio!"
Fire erupted from the wand, and immediately lit the kindling and wood on fire. He kept his parchment for the moment, in case it would be needed. He didn't expect it to be; the construction on the wall was solid. But it was always better to be over prepared than under prepared in any scenario.

Was it high enough? Would the wall hold off the winds? Opeila had no idea really. The Slytherin was piling up some more snow and then tried to stabilize the walls. It was only when she was done, that she realized that she should have probably gotten sticks before creating the fireplace. Again she felt some elementary school paranoia coming up, which she already felt at the snowman errand. If she went to get sticks, would someone else come over and take her nicely shielded fireplace away? Opeila hesitated and looked around. Only now she realized that she was alone, surrounded by groups working together. She sighed. Last year she had surrounded herself with people. It had been a desire of hers to earn housepoints and just generally fuel the teamwork inside Slytherin. And here she was.
"Your support has arrived, m'lady!"
Opeila heard a voice cutting through the magical winds and looked around. Was that- Flash. The Slytherin couldn't help the smile appearing on her face. "Well thank god, I've prepared the location and forgot the wood!" She was happy to see him here. Opeila used to attend errands with her best friend often, but it had gotten less. They had spent less time together, and that was not lastly Opeila's fault. Or... decision rather. Still, she was glad that he was here.
"Are you-" Opeila began, intending to ask him if he could get some twigs, but a voice interrupted her, when another boy came over. Opeila chuckled. "Actually... Never mind, I guess.", she told Flash amused. "Great!", she shouted over to the other boy, hoping he would hear her through the storm. "Just put them here!" She pointed into the middle of her snow walls. The boy looked vaguely familiar, Opeila remembered him from her ice hockey team.
And then another arrived, another familiar. An upperclassman who saved her from a murderous shadow last holidays. Opeila smiled at him. "Sure, go ahead!" It felt wrong to not be saying anymore. She had not talked to the boy since it happened and... Well, she should have. She should have thanked him properly.

Opeila's smile was well worth the trip, whether he enjoyed doing the errand or not. It seemed she was barreling through the errand as it was, not making many plans at all. Perhaps her mind was elsewhere, she had been different since summer. She used to come to Flash for help all the time, tell him her worries and the trouble she was getting into. Now, she was like a ghost in the house. At least his presence still made her smile.
She talked about getting kindling right as they were joined by another straggler, someone without a team. Funnily enough, the three of them had experience on a team already. He was a first year whose name he didn't know for sure... they had not been properly introduced. He had noticed he was quite friendly though, besides being quite competitive. Flash was the same way.
"Thank you!" Flash sent out a mittened hand to the boy for the customary handshake that accompanied proper greetings. "We've met, I'm Flash Holmwood."
Regardless of whether his hand was shaken, he smiled brightly, leaving his current task since he and Opeila had pretty much finished making a wind shield. Their only fear now would be if Professor Kibitzer decided to make the wind flow... down... somehow. It was magic, so it was plausible. With the shelter and the sticks combined, there was only one small task remaining, to keep a fire kindled. The way the walls were working, he didn't presume it would be much of a problem. Neither Opeila nor he were careless workers, the walls had been packed well. Flash had practice packing snow when making his snow creature, glad he had avoided uselessness in doing so.
Reaching for the wand hidden in a sheath in his pants, Flash struggled to reach his hand past the multiple layers he was wearing. Before any real progress could be made to unearth his hidden weapon, Dan Palmer's face gleaned over the walls down at all of them. A bit taken aback, Flash grimaced slightly. Granted, he had nothing against Dan, per se. It was more like their personalities grated against each other like sandpaper. He could respect him, for sure, though he couldn't say he enjoyed his company. He only vaguely knew was 'anime' was, and could not for the life of him fathom how it related to the situation.
Thankfully, he didn't wait for a reply before casting the fire-making charm on the sticks. A reasonable flame flared up from his wand, and caught the wood. Fanning them a bit in hopes that it would proliferate, Flash watched it carefully, pulling up his sleeve to watch the second hand tick on his watch.
"Just a matter of waiting now. Thank you... Dan." Flash wouldn't look up as he forwarded his empty praise. Was he barefoot? Really? He was lucky magical healing could prevent frostbite. In fact, how in the world did he... Nevermind. Best not to think too hard about it.

The bitter winds buffeted him as he awaited the answer of whether or not Opeila and Flash would accept his offer of aide. To his relief, both seemed willing to accept his presence, Opeila pointing to the center of the packed-snow windbreak they had managed to construct. He nodded at her direction, carefully stacking the twigs in his best interpretation of what a campfire looked like, a sort of rough overlapping cone with smaller twigs beneath. Once he had relieved himself of the wood, he stood, brushing the snow off his knees and grinning at Flash as he introduced himself.
“I remember, the hockey game,” Kazuo replied, gripping Flash’s offered hand in a firm handshake. He still thought it was a strange custom but one he had become familiar with thanks to his father. He had noticed that most of the children at the school didn’t seem to bother with such formal greetings so it was a pleasant surprise to find that Flash seemed to have some sense of manners. He turned to give Opeila a smile as well. “Hello again, Winters-chan. Kazuo Shimada. Meeting out in the cold again, it seems."
As he reintroduced himself, a fourth joined them, an unfamiliar face though from Opeila’s friendly greeting and Flash’s grimace they seemed to know this ‘Dan’ fellow. He took in the older boy, chuckling at his anime reference as he pulled out his wand and added the final requirement to their task. As his eyes took in Dan’s appearance his eyebrows shot up at the complete lack of shoes. How on earth…? The thought flitted across his mind yet he couldn’t think of a polite way to ask the boy why he had no shoes. He simply crouched down as Flash thanked Dan for his contribution to the effort, adding the shield of his body to the snow walls, an added layer of protection for the fragile flames as the winds seemed to pick up, buffeting the small flame. “Ten seconds, right? Not too long. We just need to protect it from Kibitzer-sensei.”
